Can't copy tunes to iPOD mini

Using iPOD mini 1.4.1. Computere specs are below.
Having great difficulty with iPOD mini. Cannot copy tunes or playlists......"that have been purchased via iTunes store ........... Get a window telling a particular song cannot be copied, and lists other "problems" meaning songs which also cannot be loaded.
Does this have anything to do with the "cannot copy an iTune more than 7 times? If so, why won't it copy a tune that was just purchased and is being copied to the iPOD mini for the first time?
If this "7 times rule" (not sure where I read that, but recall doing so) is what's in the way, is there anything I can do about it on my end or do I have to call Apple.
This is not a situation where I'm just out to make copies for college friends. This is a problem related to having the Mac in the shop for the better part of a month. It was taken in to upgrade RAM from 256 MB to 1 GB, a routine procedure I was told. however, they had "issues" installing the RAM, resulting in a failed logic board, and other problems, then another logic board failure.
Now it's home. Trying to determine whether or not it's really fixed. The iTunes area is one problem we've already noticed. When we hooked it up, it copied the entire music library, went through several attempts to straighten it out, including "syncing," unsyncing" whatever. It would just delete songs, then we had to recopy them back onto the iPod. In general, a mess.
Any thoughts/advice would be very much appreciated.

Sorry, one more thing:
tried to burn CD, got message "You are not aurhorized to burn song to CD" then list number of problems, which were the number of songs I was trying to burn.
Somethings's seriously wrong here.
Please help

  • 'itunes cannot add any songs to the ipod 'bla bla' because no songs exist in the playlist 'leo tolstoy- etc' can be copied to this ipod' .

When trying to copy an audio book that I have purchased in itunes (which I have done for years) a messge has suddenly started coming up saying 'Itunes cannot add any songs to the ipod 'bla bla' because no songs exist in the playlist name of book' can be copied to this ipod' ' It worked a couple of weeks ago when I copied half of a book and it has worked for the past few years, but suddenly now none of my ipods will work with audio book yet they will with songs in my playlists. Infact it seems as though my audio books have gone yet they are there in print ...aghhh this is so frustrating.. please can anyone help. thank you

  • Can't copy MP3s to iPod

I appreciate this has been asked before, but none of the search results turned up an answer I hadn't tried and failed.
I can import MP3s into iTunes, but I can now no longer transfer the files to my iPod.
For example, I use File->Import to import a .m3u, it successfully adds that playlist to my library, and I can play the tunes through iTunes. However, if I then try and drag that playlist from my library onto my iPod in the devices list, it creates a playlist on the iPod, but fails to copy any files. It doesn't throw up any error message, it just leaves an empty playlist there.
This definitely worked until two days ago.
For the record I have tried:
    * Latest version of iTunes and iPod software
    * Two different cables.
    * Three different PCs.
    * Resetting the iPod.
    * Restoring the iPod.
    * Resetting the warnings (but it still will not tell me why its not copying)
There appears to be nothing wrong with the actual drive in the iPod. It's clicking a little, but it always has done. And I copied 29 1GB files to it to check the integrity, and they were fine.
For the record, I just use the iPod as an MP3 player, I don't have any iTunes format files to test with.
    Can anybody help me?

I thought I had - until I tried dragging them to the Library->Music section, rather than onto the playlist I had created in the Playlists section. It's weird, but if I do the latter, then it goes through the whole "Determining gapless playback" thing, but once I quit out of iTunes, it can't find the files when I load it up again!
But dragging them onto the Playlist section doesn't throw up an error, and I get the + symbol on the pointer. So I thought it was importing correctly.
Okay, it seems I can't import playlists anymore, I have to drag the individual files into the library, then manually insert them one=by-one into the playlist, otherwise it loses them. Ah well, stick that one on your list, will you Apple?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Unable to copy podcasts to iPod (mini)

Hello, I recently had a drive crash on the system I used
iTunes on. It was a total loss, so I wasn't able to salvage
my iTunes directory (no big deal, only podcasts were in there).
I installed iTunes on another system I have and hooked up my
iPod. It sees the stuff that was already on there just fine.
(I put it in manual sync so as not to lose the stuff on it
since some of it is no longer available). The problem is that
I can't get any of the new stuff onto the iPod now. I re-
subscribed to all the old podcasts (and a few new ones) but
when I right click on the iPod it no longer has the 'sync'
option. So I copied the tracks manually (dragged and dropped)
but they don't show up under either the podcasts list nor the
music list. The space available decreases (and space used
increases of course), but they are no where to be found.
How the HE(double hockey sticks) do I see it?
    Thanks for your time!

  • Can't Update or Restore iPod Mini

My iPod Mini shows up in Windows, but instantly says 'Do not disconnect' even when fully charged. iTunes doesn't recognise it and the Updater usually hangs. I've tried everything including the 5 R's and have followed the steps in this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716. When I use the Windows 'safely remove hardware' function, I get an error message saying Windows was trying to write data to the device - I can't see any way of stopping this, even after removing iTunes and the Updater from the PC. The last step offered by Apple is to reinstall Windows, but I don't see why I should have to do this as Norton SystemWorks tells me everything is working fine. Since quite a few other people seem to have been having similar problems recently, could this be to do with an automatically-installed Windows update causing a conflict?

I am having all the same trouble with my Nano. It was working beautifully until today, when I noticed that it was not showing up in the Itunes menu. Itunes says it's not connected, but my computer and it have a fine connection with power, etc. I have tried all of the steps, etc., and have had no luck. Now it will not let me restore it. I get a message saying that there are other applications using Ipod... but I have shutdown everything. I am just stumped. Any suggestions anyone?

  • IPod won't display songs in MyMusic folder; can't copy songs to iPOd

I formatted my HD. I copied the library of the iPod back onto the computer into MyMusic. However my iPod won't display any of the songs that I recopied onto the computer. I was forced to reformat the iPod. My song library is in MyMusic the whole time but the iPod won't display any of it. How can I get my iPod to display the songs in MyMusic? I can't copy the songs onto the iPod as the songs are already in MyMusic.

Yes. I can see it there and play it as well...I just can't get it to transfer to my ipod from the itunes library. And it only happened with a few songs and I don't know what I did to make it so that it only trasferred to my library and not my ipod. But it is playable and viewable in my library and only when it is connected. Otherwise only the songs that are already on my ipod are viewable.
    Does that make sense?
Let me know if it doesn't

  • Copying tunes FROM iPod to PC

    is this possible?
suppose i accidently delete an album from my pc, can i copy it back from my iPod?

If the music was bought from the iTunes store, yes, iTunes 7 can copy music from the iPod to the computer. If the music came from another source you'll have to download a third party program to copy music from the iPod to the computer.
Note: if you intend to delete music from your computer to save space it is a very bad idea. There are too many things that can happen to your iPod; it can be lost, stolen, die a tragic death beneath a bus...If you delete music from your computer back it up to a CD or DVD first.

  • Can't add songs to iPod mini - Please help

I am running iTunes 6 on Windows XP and my iPod mini is updated with the latest software. I connect it to my computer and it appears in iTunes without any problems. I add songs to it from my library and they appear to transfer without any problems. But when I do, a yellow triangle with an exclamation point appears in my system tray. It is an itunes.exe - Corrupt File message. When I unplug my iPod, the songs that I added no longer appear in my song list.
I have 2 iPods that I use on this computer and the other one works perfectly. So my question is 2-fold. 1, how do I fix this? And 2, why did it happen so that I can prevent it in the future?

    hi Amy!
here's a good place to start with that error message:

  • Can't copy MP3 to ipod

"[Track name]" was not copied to the iPod "[iPod name]" because it cannot be played on this iPod.
This is the error message I get when I try to copy some MP3 files to my Nano. Does anyone know why this problem occurs? I even tried a third party MP3 validator which says there is nothing wrong with the MP3 tracks I am trying to transfer to the iPod.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Hellighansen,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like some MP3 tracks that were ripped from a CD aren't able to be synced to the iPod nano. Take a look at the article linked below, it has some great tips for resolving issues with problematic files.
iPod: Troubleshooting songs and audiobooks that won't play
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2045
Make sure that you can play the songs in iTunes
Double-click one of the affected songs in iTunes.
If prompted to do so, enter your iTunes Store name and password, then click OK.
Select your iPod in the Source pane, then choose Sync iPod from the File menu.
If the songs don't play in iTunes, skip to the "Problematic files" section below. If the songs do play in iTunes:
Click here to find out which version of iTunes you have, and to download the latest version.
Make sure that your iPod software is up to date; click here to find out which version you have and how to update.
iTunes won't send some files to the iPod
Make sure that the files are in a format that is supported by iPod.
Specific purchases from the iTunes Store don't play
Try deauthorizing and reauthorizing your computer. Repeat the deauthorization and reauthorization process for any other iTunes Store accounts for which your computer is authorized.
Double-click one of your affected iTunes Store files.
Enter your account name and password in the resulting dialog.
    Click OK.
After you've deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Sync iPodfrom the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring your iPod.
After you've restored your iPod, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Sync iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try recreating your iTunes library.
After you've recreated your iTunes library, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the Filemenu.
    Problematic files
If none of the above steps resolved your issue, there may be an issue with the music files. If you have a backup of the affected song files, delete the files from your iTunes library and then add them back in from your backup. If you haven't been keeping a backup of your purchased music, you can find out how to do this here.
If the affected files came from an audio CD, try importing them into iTunes again from the disc. After you've replaced the affected files with copies from your backup or CD import, open iTunes, select your iPod, and chooseUpdate iPod from the File menu.
iPod nano and long slide shows
If you're using iPod nano, and you view a slide show for over 8 hours, you may notice that the iPod nano display may indicate that a song is playing when in fact it is not or it immediately skips to the next song repeatedly. To resolve this, just reset iPod nano.

  • Can I copy library from Ipod to my hard drive ?

I lost most of my library and all of my playlists from ITunes. All of the music is still in my hard drives and still on my IPod. Can I copy what's on my Ipod back into my ITunes library ? If so, how ? I've got a 80 gig, 5th gen, video, and can't stand the possibility of losing all of the playlists. The computer I want to copy this data to is the only computer that was ever used with this IPod.
    My last post went unanswered.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Can it be that my iPod mini is dead?

I have got an iPod mini for nearly 2 years now and I just tried to charge it for my holiday. I connected it with my computer but it won't respond. It is 'not charging' or connecting with iTunes for an hour now. What else can I do? Or do I just have to 'order' a new iPod because the battery is just dead?
