Can't create a folder without being asked for a login password.

I'm running 10.9.5 on an iMac. When I try to create a folder I'm asked for my login password. When I try to move a file into the folder I'm asked again for my login password. This is very annoying. My other Mac running 10.4.8 doesn't do this.

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • In Yosemite, I can;t operate for more than a few minutes with Keychain or Safari asking for my login password.  How can I turn this off, and still be safe?

Using Yosemite, I an't seem to work for more than a few minutes without being asked for my login password.  Keychain wants it, Safari wants it, iCloud wants it..the list goes on.  Then in 10 minutes or so, they all want it again.  Passwords are being stored by Safari as usual, but new tabs or pages bring up the request.  How can I turn this off and still have protection?

    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"

              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Printing from InDesign asking for computer login password

Hi. Just got new MacPro, CS4 Design Premium. Every time printing from InDesign asking for computer login password. Never happened with CS3. Is there any way to avoid job holding in printer's dialog box, waiting for authentification?  No problems printing from Acrobat, Photoshop or Entourage etc. Checked computer preferences, nothing shows permission/security restrictions are applied. What could cause holding print jobs from InDesign?
Here's what it says in Status field: On Hold (Authentification required)...so I have to click “Resume” every time, enter password and only then it prints.
Printer: HP5100 laserJet. HP did not associated this issue with printer or drivers. Please help. Thanks!

    Thanks for your help, Marvin!
Sharing has been set up, PW is in keychain. Still asking for "authenification"..
After talking to Adobe tech support, here's the answer:
"Issue:  When attempting to print, customer is continually asked to authenticate.
Resolution:  Printer is possibly too old to understand the print data InDesign is outputting. Try updating drivers or using a newer printer".
I guess I will request new printed from management, mine is 2003...

iMac is asking for admin login password upon startup when it never did before, settings are still on auto login. Why is it doing this out of the blue?

Is sounds like it might for some reason booting into Safe Mode, which does prompt for a password.
    Try a PRAM reset:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
If that doesn't help, restart holding down the option key which should take you to the startup manager. Select Macintosh HD (you may need to use the arrows on the keyboard if the kb is Bluetooth), tap 'enter'. Does it boot normally now?

When I try to download apps or update apps on my iphone I'm being asked for a password to an apple id (email address) that I have not created or linked to my account. I've tried re-setting my apple id - but same message keeps appearing - so can not access itunes app store or update apps I've already downloaded.
Has any one else experienced this? Or any ideas how to remove this email address?

    You cannot merge accounts.

  • Product number CQ183A can not access setting in EWS keeps asking for admin login and password.

    HP Photosmart 5510d B11H
    CQ183A
    Windows 7, Vista, and Linux
I installed the printer everything works until I try to access certain settings in the Embedded Web Server.  I pops up a box asking for admin login.  Initially, the status page claimed the Admin password was set even though I never set that up.  Through chatting with tech support rests cleared this, it is now reporting Not Set.  However, I still can not login to check/change settings etc.
I think this printer had been purchased then returned to the store because the manual was missing.  I downloaded the manual and did not find any mention of how to access the password settings.  So far tech support has not been able to answer my question,
    Is there a default?
How do I access the EWS settings -> security to setup a password?

    Hello MREnder,
From what I am reading, you may need to call in to get a factory reset done.  These resets can only be done over the phone.  You can find the number at eprintcenter.com under the support section.

  • I can't get into my mail without being asked for my password and its stored in keychain and not having trouble on any other device except my macbook

I have been having trouble signing on for several days to my email accounts. Everytime it asks for my password and the keychain box pops up. I retype it and it returns. I even went under mail preferences and changed it and it will not let me on. I have an iPad and an iPhone and can access it that way (so I know the password is correct) but not on macbook. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Using ssh without being asked for a password.

    Hey all,
I need to access a new network which is now protected by firewalls. These firewalls will disconnect sessions that are idle for over an hour, this is a problem for a lot of Sun protocols that don't use keepalives (another Sun only idea!!!) such as 'rlogin', 'rsh', 'telnet' etc.
I need to use a protocol such as 'ssh' or equivalent which uses keepalives to remote login to systems inside the protected network to overcome the firewall dropping the sessions. The systems inside this network are all on Solaris 8.
The thing is that I need to overcome 'ssh' requirement for password authentication, as the users are clicking on a menu application that automatically does a rsh and starts the application without prompting the user for any information (I know you should use ssh with authentication, but in this case I cannot use it). Has anyone been able to configure 'ssh' on a system wide basis for all users to not ask for a password, and use standard NIS authentication with the hosts.equiv instead.
I have found plenty of example of how to do this in Linux, but since Sun have decided not to implement ssh in the standard way like every other UNIX vendor and to use wrappers, none of those examples will work on Solaris.
If someone has found a way of overcoming the keepalive issue with rlogin, rsh etc. I'd be really interested in knowing the hack done to get it working, as I would prefer to avoid installing anything on those systems in the new network.
    Thanks for reading,
    Mick.

You could probably try re-installing SSH using the standard OpenSSH source, not the ones provided by sun.
More of a pain, as you have to install on all the machines, but it would allow you to do as you said.
It might also be possible to use a midleman linux machine to do it, but not sure how you would go about doing it that way.
Not a solution, but some pointers. Hopefully, it helps.
