Can't create a print queue on OS 10.7 via HP driver installed by Apple

I've ust bought a reconditioned iMac and am getting applications up and running, but I'm unable to get my HP Laserjet 2200DN printer working. The Add Printer pane (Print & Scan Preferences) remains blank: Name & Location and Print Using & Add areas are all grayed out, therefore I can't locate the printer driver even though it has been installed in the Printer folder. I've messed around with HP Direct Protocol & Line Daemon functions, entering my IP address, just to see if the printer driver could be located - it could. However, I get a pop-up window which says 'Unable to verify the printer on your network' but it gives me the option of going ahead anyway, which I did. I was able to create a print queue, able to give a print command, the printer window opens, but the printer is  'busy', but of course it hasn't been given the command to print  anything.  Any ideas?

  • I hope it's Kappy reading this. My HP Laserjet successfully installed but can't create a print queue...

    Hello Kappy - Thank you for persevering with my printer issues. Firstly, I use Firefox, recently updated & as yet have not discovered how to monitor downloads. The software for HP Laserjet 2200 was eventually automaticallly, and therefore correctly, installed.The Add Printer Pane accessed via the + button in the Printer & Scanner window is blank - the Name & Location and Print Using & Add areas are all grayed out, therefore I can't locate the printer driver even though it is in the Printer folder. I messed around with HP Direct Protocol & Line Daemon functions, entering my IP address, just to see if I could locate the printer driver - I could. However, I get a pop-up window which says 'Unable to verify the printer on your network' but it gives me the option of going ahead anyway, which I did. I was able to create a print queue, able to give a print command, the printer window opens, but the printer appears as 'busy', but of course it's not printing. To look at the issue from another perspective: previously I was running 10.5.8 on my old Power Mac G5 and a week before I shifted over the iMac I paused the printer but when tried to resume printing I got a pop-up message saying IPadmin > enter administrator name + password. Which of course I couldn't do - I discovered this was a bug afflicting10.5 & 10.6 operating systems; the only way I could get around it was by re-creating myself as a new administrator, which I did, and got the printer going again. So, if I have a "Network" printer perhaps there's another route to get the driver recognized... What do you think?

    I’m trying to follow HP’s instructions to add a driver for HP Color Laserjet CP 1215 which is connected to my Time Capsule. However, in System Preferences I can’t “add” the printer to the print queue because I don’t have a driver and you have to select a driver before the add button becomes active.  Therefore, the Mountain Lion software update doesn’t add driver software for the CP 1215 driver because I was unable to add the printer to the print queue.

    This printer doesn't seem to be supported in ML:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01664444&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en &product=412187#N2043
    You could try the 1515 driver or use the Generic PostScript Printer PPD when adding the printer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't see the printer queue

    Hi,
    I can't see the printer queue in Snow Leopard.
    Either if I go to the Printer & Fax setting in the System Settings and try to open the printer queue it doesn't open.

    I have the same problem and I'd like to attach my issue to this thread.
    I use a Brother HL5250DN printer connected via USB cable to an Airport Express base station. The model is supported by 10.6, drivers are installed and the printer appears properly on all the lists. I can print on it, I can set all the options, but I have no access to the queue whatsoever. I can print without problems, I just can't access the queue.
    It doesn't appear in the Dock during printing.
    Pressing the button in the Printer & Fax preferences window produces no result, error or feedback of any kind.
    What's wrong? I tried reinstalling the drivers and the entire system, but without "Archive & Install" option I can't do much to ensure there are no left-overs from 10.5. Does anyone know a solution?
    Thanks in advance.

    What OS? Have you tried a repair and updates from the HELP menu? The updates may be the key.

    rying to get Photoshop CS4 functional with Mavericks and an Epson 3880 printer. CS4 fails to send a file to the print queue. Have reinstalled the Epson 3880 driver for Mavericks. All looks good but no file is sent.
    Does anyone know how to fix this?

    What EXACT version of Photoshop CS4 are you running?  You should be on Photoshop CS4 v 11.0.2.
    Also run Apple's software update to see whether it offers you the latest Epson update:
    Printer Driver v9.33
    Epson Stylus Pro 3880, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.
    MOST IMPORTANTLY:  have Photoshop re-create its own Preferences:
    To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
    Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
    Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
    Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
    NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here:

    Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • Can't create a printer icon

    Hello,
    I've a Powermac G3 266 Mhz and I want to install the HP laserjet 2550ln. I upgrade the system from os 8.0 to 9.2 to install the printer. Then I use the Printer Utility (in the folder Utilities) to create the printer icon: I select Printer LPR and select the PPD file and define the LPR printer options (IP address and queue name RAW), so when I click "verify", the system find the printer with its IP address. But when I click on "create" button and save it, the system don't create the desktop printer icon, though this process works for a imac which is in the same network.
    Thanks for your help

    That it works on one Mac and not another is a different question but you seem to be describing the OS X Printer Utility…
    Are you actually using pure OS 9, or Classic 9 running over OS X, please?
    Either way, can you try Desktop Printer Utility?

  • How Can I Create a Print Button on a PDF Using Acrobat Pro That Will Also Work on iOS?

    I created a Print Button on a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat Pro on my Mac.  The Print button works perfectly on different browsers on my Mac and on Windows (running under Parallels Desktop) as well.
    When I open the document on my iPad the Print button doesn't even appear.  I am guessing that this is a Flash issue but it may be more related to the fact the the action for the button is to access the Print menu item, which doesn't exist under iOS.
    Is there any way to create a Print button using Acrobat Pro that will work on a Mac and Windows but also on iOS?

    In order to initiate printing by clicking a button, the button has to have either an "execute menu item" type action or use the "print" JavaScript method. As you guessed, the former won't work since there are no menu items to execute, and the latter can only work if the particular PDF viewer you're using supports it. I'm not aware of any that do on iOS.
    The button doesn't appear because you're probably opening it in the default PDF viewer, which doesn't support forms at all. If you were to open the form in Adobe Reader, you'd see the button but it wouldn't work.

  • Can I create a new Queue/Topic in client application?

    In sun's JMS turorial the application client sends messages to the queue, which is created administratively, using the j2eeadmin command. Can I create a new destination(queue or topic) in my client's code?
    Thanks very much.

    Thank you very much, flhood. This is my first time to gain aid from website except my school's BBS.
    But I still cann't solve the problem, here is my code, can you help me to check it if there is anywhere that I might do wrong?( I omit the try/catch part)
    QueueConnectionFactory queueConnectionFactory =null;
    QueueConnection queueConnection =null;
    QueueSession queueSession =null;
    Queue queue =null;
    Queue tempQueue =null;
    QueueSender queueSender =null;
    TextMessage message =null;
    final int NUM_MSGS;
    Context jndiContext =null;
    jndiContext =new InitialContext();
    queueConnectionFactory =(QueueConnectionFactory)jndiContext.lookup("QueueConnectionFactory");
    queueConnection =queueConnectionFactory.createQueueConnection();
    queueSession =queueConnection.createQueueSession(false,Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    queueConnection.start();
    queue =queueSession.createQueue("MyQueue");
    tempQueue =queueSession.createTemporaryQueue();(Actually I don't know why I shall need a tempQueue if I have the queue.)
    queueSender =queueSession.createSender(queue);
    message =queueSession.createTextMessage();
    NUM_MSGS=10;
    for (int i =0;i <NUM_MSGS;i++){
    message.setText("This is message "+(i +1));
    System.out.println("Sending message:"+message.getText());
    queueSender.send(message);
    These codes run well if I lookup in the JNDI for the existing queue "MyQueue", but when I try to make it dynamically, the resutlt shows(I only use texteditor+j2sdk1.4+j2ee1.3.1):
    Java(TM) Message Service 1.0.2 Reference Implementation (build b14)
    Sending message:This is message 1
    Exception occurred:javax.jms.InvalidDestinationException: No Destination found f
    or name: MyQueue
    I use deloytool to check the destionation, of course the "MyQueue" hasn't been created, but I use try/catch to brace these two line:
    queue =queueSession.createQueue("MyQueue");
    queueSender =queueSession.createSender(queue);
    Nothing gain.
    They are really puzzling me!

  • Attempting to write Applescript to create network print queues

    I work for a university in the U.S. and I am attempting to create an Apple Script that will be used to add network printers to over 500 Macs. As part of the setup script, I need to be able to retrieve the user's Windows domain login, which may or may not be same as their local login (that's an entirely separate project), and I will need to ask the user for a name of the nearest printer to them.
    I successfully created a bash shell script that does the job, but management would like for the interface to be 'cleaner' and don't want to have users go to a terminal to run the printer setup. I've managed to translate some of the shell script to Apple script, and what I've got so far makes the login and printer information retrieval 'cleaner'. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to finish the rest of it in order for me to setup the print queues using the data gathered during the set part of the script.
    Here is the shell script:
    #!/bin/bash
    #get login from user
    echo "Type your network login:"
    read login
    stty_orig='stty -g'
    echo "Enter the name of a nearby Canon Printer:"
    read canonprint
    #add the print queues
    echo "Adding unsecured Canon print queue"
    lpadmin -p CanonPrint -v lpd://$login@printserver/$canonprint -P /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/CNMCIRAC5250S2.ppd.gz -E
    echo "Adding secured Canon print queue"
    lpadmin -p CanonPrintSecure -v lpd://$login@printserver/CanonPrint-Secure -P /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/CNMCIRAC5250S2.ppd.gz -E
    exit 0
    So far, I've got this much written up in Apple Script:
    set Login to ""
    set CanonPrint to ""
    set dialog_1 to display dialog "Enter your login" default answer "" buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    set dialog_2 to display dialog "Enter the name of a nearby Canon printer" default answer "" buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    set SUNetID to the text returned of dialog_1
    set CanonPrint to the text returned of dialog_2
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Use do shell script
    set nLogin to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter network login" with icon note default answer "" with title "Network login" with hidden answer)
    set CanonPrint to text returned of (display dialog "Enter the name of a nearby Canon Printer" with icon note default answer "" with title "Canon Printer")
    set stty_orig to do shell script "stty_orig -g"
    do shell script "lpadmin -p" & space & CanonPrint & space & "-v lpd://$login@printserver/$canonprint -P /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/CNMCIRAC5250S2.ppd.gz -E"
