Can't create a ringtone on itunes

When ever I try to create a ringtone a window pops up that says "itunes could not connect to the itunes store. an unknown error occurred (11556)". but my internet connection is working fine, any help would be appreciated.

Well, thanks very much, Roaminggnome!
It would have been nice of the brains at Apple (iTunes Dept) to have designed it better with the rest of the world's customers in mind wouldn't it? It's basic good manners to produce a version for their customers who DON"T live in the USA? Or at least have the brains and the manners to design the error message to say something like:
"Sorry, this service is only available in the US at the moment. We hope to release the service in your country in the very near future. Apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment caused"
Or are they just trying to be like Microsoft again?

  • How do I create a ringtone in iTunes 10.2.2?

I have found an article that shows how to create a ringtone in iTunes 9.2 and it does not seem to apply to iTunes 10.2.2
Can I safely download 9.2, create a ringtone in the iTunes Store and not affect my current application?
    Thanks for the help,
    eAL

I am completely unable to use a purchased "ringtone" as a ringtone because iTunes will not recognize it as such. I have tried the instructions in the above article (numerous times), and found the same instructions all around google.  I can NOT move a 30 sec clip I purchased today on iTunes from the music library to the ringtones on my iMac.  It is my understanding from hours of researching this problem, that music sold on iTunes from a computer can NOT be used as ringtones because they are not truly ringtones??  Instead, I have to purchase music from the iPhone under the iTunes App > More > Ringtones.  Is this correct??  I'm so beyond frustrated.  Mac is NEVER this difficult.  Why on earth would anyone want to purchase a 30 sec. clip of a song and NOT be able to use it as a ringtone?  If this is truly the case then there should be a disclaimer in iTunes stating that fact.
I also discovered while following instructions from another post, that the song I just downloaded today is not under the "purchased" section of my iTunes account, yet it is in my music library.  Huh??  How can that be?  Is it because I've changed the format from m4a to m4r and it's now different than what I purchased?
I'm so confused and think I may have to resign myself to re-purchasing a lesser liked ringtone from the same song directly from my iPhone.

  • Creating A Ringtone In Itunes Help.

I've been trying to create a ringtone in iTunes using a song purchased from iTunes store. I keep getting this message.
Itunes could not connect to the iTunes store. An unknown error occurred(11556) Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
I am able to view the iTunes store and even purchase songs from it.

Yes, not all songs available in iTunes are able to be made into ringtones... if you see a Bell symbol next to the song then that one can be made into a Ringtone...
Otherwise you can still use iTunes to create your own from DRM free songs you already had...Google search will help give you a guide...

how can i create an account in itunes from Bangladesh ?

If you go to the artist's/group's page in the store then you should be able to do it e.g. search for the artist in the store, and on the right-hand side of the results page there should be list of content categories that match that search, and below it a link for the artist
Click on the artist's name to go to a screen listing their items, and at the top right of that screen there should be a 'share' icon'
Click on that and on the popup you should have an option for 'alert me' (I haven't used it but I assume that it works).
You can see what alerts that you have, and remove them, by logging into your account via the Store > View Account menu option - on your account's screen there should be an Alerts link

  • Can I create a ringtone for iPhone4S from my existing iTunes library

I just upgraded to iPhone 4S. When I was playing with it briefly, I came across a screen where it looked like you could create a ringtone from exisiting iTunes library music. I can't get back to it. Is this possible? How to? Hope I wasn't dreaming#!

Yes.  You have been able to do this for years.
Google will find several free ways to do this for free, including using itunes.

  • No "Ringtones" tab and can't drag & drop ringtones into iTunes

I have an iPhone4 running OS4.3, using iTunes 10.2 on a Windows Vista PC. I used an iPhone app to create custom ringtones, and have followed the app's instructions to save the ringtones to my PC and then copy into iTunes. Two problems:
    1) The instructions say to drag & drop the .m4r files into iTunes. I've seen this mentioned in other posts on this topic. When I try to do this, the files won't "drop". I see the "no" symbol (circle with line) when I hover over my music library.
    2) The instructions say to click on my iPhone in iTunes, and then on the "Ringtones" tab along the top of the screen. I don't have a Ringtones tab. There's also no reference to Ringtones in the left navigation pane.
    How do I correct this?
    Thanks

!!! JUST DOWNGRADE YOUR ITUNES VERSION, AND USE THE OLDER ONE - THAT'S ALL. SORRY FOR ALL-CAPITAL LETTERS AND EXCLAMATION MARKS, - IT IS JUST OUT OF EXCITEMENT, AFTER HOURS OF SEARCHING AND THINKING ABOUT A SOLUTION !!!
    Shalom all,
Our frustration and pain is over, for sure… With some help and hints from this forum I’ve found a precise solution to the above mentioned can’t-get-the-goddamned-ringtones-tab-to-appear-in-my-iTunes problem.
Now let me try and get up to the point:
The 10.5.2 version of iTune is worthless (at least, it’s 64-bit modification, which I’ve been using up to this point). By reading a few comments on your forum, I’ve quickly decided to try and downgrade to 10.4.1.10 version (seems to me, 64-bit), which can be downloaded from apple.com site with just a little extra-search.
By the way, I do have Windows 7 64-bit OS on my PC, and “Apple” warns that one MUST use 64-bit installation in my case…
One must uninstall previously installed 10.5.2 (if there used to be one, of course). In such a case, please, also uninstall a “Bonjour” program by “Apple” (don’t know what’s that, but you will not be able proceed any further with, as it was said in my case, higher version of “Bonjour” left behind).
After uninstalling those two abovementioned things, I have installed iTunes 10.4.1.10 , even without being asked for reboot by the end of the installation. But, alas, when I tried running iTunes, it failed with the complain about a “iTunes Library.itl” file (found in C:\Users\<My_User>\Music\iTunes). I’ve just renamed the file (could’ve been removed as well, of course) and restarted the iTunes. This time everything went smooth.
The rest of the story, I assume, you can imagine much better than me. Go to Edit->Preferences and tick “Ringtones”. After connecting the iPhone (well, probably one more iTunes restart will be required in this case, - not sure about that), we will get the “Ringtones” tab set also under the iPhone definition (see “DEVICES” in iTunes).
Next, create an .m4a file out of your favorite ringtone, move it to the Desktop, change the extension to a4r, add it back (drug-and-drop) to “Ringtones” tab at the iTunes LIBRARY. Then make some blessing, take a deep breath and… that’s pretty much done. One important thing not to forget before sync: click on your phone (under iTune’s DEVICES), and click on “Ringtones”, located right under the gorgeous :-) apple picture in the top middle of the iTunes window. Mark “Sync Ringtones” and “All Ringtones” (?) there, of course…
BTW, no need whatsoever to register your phone, - you can just postpone the registration...
Phew… Let’s hope I haven’t forget anything. Anyhow, the idea was to get rid of iTunes 10.5.2 as soon as possible, uninstall it together with “Bonjour” (say good bye to “Bonjour”  ), then install a good old iTunes 10.4.1.10, get over few problems and… The rest of the procedure - you know it by heart, by far better than me…
I’ve been struggling with the problem for less than a day (thanks to all of you, pals), but I can imagine there are still some poor pal chaps around…
Let us help them… Very unfortunately, English is not my mother tongue, as you can see… I wish, it would be different, but G-d decided other way… Please, (1) make some corrections and clarifications to this notes (I could've made it better, but in a crunch now, really), and also, (2) try spreading it among as many guys as possible… If you can pass this solution to “Apple” tech support, - it should be taken to consideration...
And I'll be waiting now for a generous job offer from that great company... :-)
Let me just wish you all a very Happy New Year...
Thank you all, dear friends, and do enjoy the best of your own FREE ringtones……
P.S.: iTunes 10.4.1 (64-bit) can be found here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427 , at the bottom of the page...

  • How can I synch a ringtone with iTunes Match

    Hi all,
I am using iTunes Match and I've made a song into a ringtone.
I see the song in my iTunes in a folder named "ringtones" so I suspect Apple recognises it as a ringtone.
When I synch my iPhone (5s) however, I can't find the ringtone in my iPhone.
So either I'm searching in the wrong place, or it isn't synchronised.
Because I am using iTunes Match for my music, I suspect that could be causing the problem.
    Any tips?
    Best regards,
    Peter

I've tried to follow the step-by-step guide.
However, I don't have the option "Creat AAC version". When I go and check via Finder, my songs already are AAC version. So I made a copy of the song in question in finder, I've double-clicked it to open in iTunes and then I adapted the playing time to 27 seconds. Afterwards I copied it my desktop, deleted the file in iTunes and changed the extension on the desktop to m4r.
When I check it in Finder, it says in the properties "ringtone" (while my other music is "Apple MPEG-4-audio"), which leads me to assume that iTunes does indeed recognizes it as a ringtone. Is this a correct assumption or not?
In the iTunes tab ringtones however, nothing appears. When I synch there's no ringtone on my iPhone.

  • Creating a ringtone with iTunes (after song selection) is difficult!

    Hey-
I'm having an issue with creating ringtones using the built in ringtone maker in iTunes after purchasing a eligable track from the iTunes store. There are some ringtones that I found on the iTunes store. There is one purchase where you get 6 seperate ringers (but in one audio file). I place the slider bars at the beginning of the ringer I want and then at the end of that ringer. When I go to play it back to make sure I'm getting what I want, it's not playing the correct ringer that it should be playing, but rather either the first ringer, or the 4th ringer...very odd! I know how to 'trim' clips as I do this daily with Windows Movie Maker...left slider starts at where you want the tune to start, the right slider stops at where you want the tune to end...very simple! Yet with the ringtone maker built into iTunes, it doesn't seem to work that way at all.
The tune that I am referring to is called "6 (or six) business ringtones" in iTunes (just do a search it will pop up)! It is one audio file, with 6 different ringtones in the file, the total file length is like 30 seconds (give or take). Well I like the 2nd ringtone. So after I bought the file, I then went into the ringtone maker in iTunes and dragged the slidders where the 2nd ringtone starts and ends, I then play it back but it doesn't play what I trimmed. Instead it plays other parts of the file (as in the 5th and 6th ringers or the 1st ringers or it starts playing the end of the 1st ringer and combines it into the 2nd ringer that I want. It doesn't seem to do what it's suppose to do and it's really starting to tick me off! I have all these charges from the iTunes store where I have been repeating trying to make the file because it's not working correctly and I'm getting all these charges on my credit card. All I want is for the ringtone maker to work correctly and make my tone as I'm telling it to do, but it won't. Does anyone know how to make this darn thing work correctly? If it wasn't for the file being DRM'd, I would drag it into my own program and do it myself with something I know works correctly. This clearly does not work correctly.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • How can i create a playlist in iTunes and have the playlist show up on iPhone 5

I painstakingly spent a considerable amout of time creating a playlist in iTunes on Windows, and now when I sync my iPhone, and open the Music app, I do not see the playlist at all.  When I select 'On this device' in iTunes, I can see the playlist listed, but a large number of the songs are greyed out, and do not play in iTunes.  These are simply songs I selected from my iTunes library into an iTunes playlist, and I sync'ed my iPhone saying transfer only selected playlists, etc, and now the playlist does NOT show up on the iPhone.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • How do I create a ringtone in itunes for my iphone?

I have itunes 10 and a iphone 3gs. I'd like to use one of the songs in my libarary to create a ringtone for my phone. What are the steps to doing this?

Set your iTunes import preferences to AAC encoder / HQ
Select the track you want to convert - right click - get info - Options
Select Start/Stop Time: Make sure that the resulting playtime is less then approx 39 sec - OK
Right-click again on that track: Create AAC version
Delete the resulting file from your iTunes library
Move it from Trash to your Desktop
Rename it from .m4a to .m4r
    Double-Click that .m4r file

  • Purchased ringtone, but can't move to "ringtones" on iTunes

I've downloaded a ringtone for my iPhone 4 from "100 most popular ringtones" on iTunes. Oddly, it doesn't appear to be an actual ringtone. When imported into my "Music" section of iTunes, it will not allow me to drag-and-drop it into "ringtones." I've tried pretty much everything: magic web suggestions to change to m4r, etc., but nothing works. I figure, well, I've paid a whole 99 cents for ringtone from iTunes, but I can't use it. Hmmm. Any thoughts?

Yep, same here. I too also purchased one and it refuses to go into my ring tones folder for the iPhone.
iTunes is the most worthless POS I have EVER dealt with in my life. I had this ringtone once on my phone. So I hook up the iPhone after a reinstall of the OS and BAM I lose my ringtone and music again.

  • Can't find any ringtone in iTunes Stores!!!

Is there a hidden section? I can't see any tunes with a bell displayed next to it... or did I get it wrong: do you need to purchase a song and THEN the bell becomes available (not very Apple like!!!).
I am just surprised there's no dedicated section I browsed through music -> Genre, and no ringtone there either.
Baffled, can anyone shed some light here?
    Cheers

    Hi there!
Are you using your iPhone in the UK? If so, I have had this issue raised with o2. Basically, ringtones from iTunes is NOT currently an available feature in the UK just yet. o2 told me this will be shortly once licensing issues have been agreed upon. Hope this helps.
