Can't create a ringtone!

Hi guys! I just got an iphone today and wanted to make a ringtone. Ok so I've tried to follow the instructions, but when i click on the bell next to the name OR when i click on Store and then try to click on "create ringtone", the option cannot be high-lighted!i mean, its not letting me click on create ringtone at all! i have a mac os x 10.4.11 and i JUST updated the itunes software...so I don't know what's wrong help please???

Nono I know how I'm supposed to do them (yes, click on the bell, etc, etc...) but even if I click in different bells, in whatever song I choose, the "create ringtone" option is not high-lighted! i don't know why, it's not working. Maybe is the new itune update? what do you guys think?
I have garageband but i don't know how to use it :-p ( it's easier to pay 99 cent hehe)

  • Can I create a ringtone for iPhone4S from my existing iTunes library

I just upgraded to iPhone 4S. When I was playing with it briefly, I came across a screen where it looked like you could create a ringtone from exisiting iTunes library music. I can't get back to it. Is this possible? How to? Hope I wasn't dreaming#!

Yes.  You have been able to do this for years.
Google will find several free ways to do this for free, including using itunes.

  • Can't create a ringtone on itunes

When ever I try to create a ringtone a window pops up that says "itunes could not connect to the itunes store. an unknown error occurred (11556)". but my internet connection is working fine, any help would be appreciated.

    Well, thanks very much, Roaminggnome!
It would have been nice of the brains at Apple (iTunes Dept) to have designed it better with the rest of the world's customers in mind wouldn't it? It's basic good manners to produce a version for their customers who DON"T live in the USA? Or at least have the brains and the manners to design the error message to say something like:
"Sorry, this service is only available in the US at the moment. We hope to release the service in your country in the very near future. Apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment caused"
Or are they just trying to be like Microsoft again?

  • Can't create iTunes ringtones for my iPhone

I'm trying to create ringtones from my purchased iTunes music for my new iPhone, but when I try to create the ringtone, I get a dialog that states:
*"In order to purchase ringtones, you must review and accept the iTunes Store Terms of Service. Click OK to go to the iTunes Store Terms of Service."*
I click OK, the dialog disappears, and then nothing happens. I've tried this repeatedly. I'm confused. Any ideas?

Okay, I tracked down a solution. It's not in any of Apple's related FAQs (it should).
"I was having the same trouble as those posted here, and finally called iTunes Support. They told me that there is a "TOS loop" that happens on the first purchase of a ringtone from a song that is already in your library (in other words, you are repurchasing the tune to make a ringtone). Here is their work-around:
"Go to the iTunes home page, sign in, and download the FREE Single of the Week. There will be no charge. That will give you the prompt to "Accept the Terms of Service" window, which you should accept and click okay. Now go back to the music library window on your desktop, and select the song you want, and choose Create Ringtone. This time, because you've already purchased a new song for a ringtone, you won't get into the TOS loop, and you should see the WAV box at the bottom, which allows you to select and preview your ringtone, then click buy when you're ready."

  • Can I create a ringtone in GarageBand

    Hi there,
I have a song in GarageBand 2 that I'd like to use it as a ringtone in a couple of cell phones. The cell phone models are Motorola V400 and Sony Erickson T290a. The Motorola can play polyphonic and MP3 ringtones, the Sony Erickson only polyphonic.
Does anybody know if I can convert my song to a ringtone for those phones? If it is possible, how do I do that? How do I transfer from my Mac to the cell phones?
    Thanks for your help.

You probably already found your answer, but my brother-in-law and I just figured this out the other night. We initially looked on this discussion board and found nothing, so I'll attempt to paste our solution on several boards.
The steps may look long, however, after you do this once it's so easy...
    (1) Find the song you want as your ringtone and drag it into GarageBand. (If the song is a purchaed iTunes song it will be protected and this won't be possible. There is various software to remove the protection, but I have yet to use it).
    (2) Cut the song down to a 10 - 45 second clip within GarageBand.
    (3) Send the song back to iTunes (using the Share menu). The song will then most likely show up in a new playlist with your name as the artist.
    (4) Convert the song to a mp3. You will most likely need to first go into iTunes preferences and select the Advanced setting. Then change the import (yes import even though you'll export) option to mp3. Then go under the Advanced menu and select convert to mp3. Now you'll have a duplicate song, but this one will be an mp3. Use Info (Apple "I") to verify which is which.
    (5) Drag your new mp3 10 - 45 second mp3 to your desktop.
Now you'll send your mp3 mobile phone via bluetooth.
    (6) Go into System Preferences and select Bluetooth. Then go into your phone and setup your bluetooth (if you haven't done this before it can be tricky because there are so many different phone types - however you'll basically need to go into your phone setting and send your signal to your Mac). The process is very similiar to setting up a bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Follow the onscreen prompts and you'll likely be asked to enter a computer generated number into your phone to verify you want to connect.
    (7) Once connected you should then go into File Sharing and turn it on (within the Bluetooth menu).
    (8) You're almost done. Now open Bluetooth File Exchange (within Applications - Utilities) and select send a file. Select the mp3 file (or photo or video) on your desktop and send it. Lastly, you'll most likely have to Accept the incoming file on your phone.
    (9) Once the transfer is complete (1 - 3 minutes) you should have a new self-created ringtone!
Let me know if this worked!

  • Can I create a ringtone if bell icon isn't available?

I want a ringtone for James Brown's 'Living In America'. However, only the karaoke version and a full version via purchase alburm only is avialable with ringtones. None of the single (don't have to buy the whole album) full version songs have ringtones. Go figure. Is there a way to get a ringtone for the single full version?

Yes you can. If you have bought the song from the iTunes store you have the right to burn five audio CDs of the song. Burn it to an audio CD and reimport it to iTunes. [More|http://iphonesmarts.blogspot.com/2008/01/adding-ringtones.html] on the process of creating your own ringtones. It takes a little work.
I should also note that to add ringtones to your iPhone Manually manage music in iTunes must be unchecked.

  • How can I create a ringtone using a song from my itunes library?

I have installed a number of ringtone apps for my iphone to create a special ringtone. I have followed all the steps adding the tune to my itune library, but am unable to complete the final step of moving the tune from the library to 'tone' and then syncing the tune to my iphone as a ringtone. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In iTunes pref>General - is the Tones option enabled?
When you plug in the Device - from the DEvies window go to the Tones tab at the top and select the Tones that you want to laod on the iPhone.

  • Can't create Ringtones

I moved to Mac Last February and I got the subscription to .Mac which assigned me a new apple account (@apple.com ). All my purchases with my previous (@msn.com) account I was able to transfer from my IPhone to my new IMac but the problem is that when I try to create a ringtone from any of these purchases song I will tell me that " this song was purchase by a different account ". When I log in with my previous account and I try to create the ringtone everything works fine until I click the "Buy" button. When I do it, nothing happen: no ringtone is purchased, no charge from Apple to my credit card and no error message.
I tried to get some help from Itunes store customer service but they told me that " the easiest solution will be is for you to repurchase the song you want to create as ringtone". They went ahead to offer me 4 songs credit ( I Have purchased well beyond this amount, even though not all my purchase songs are ringtone-ready songs. They also deleted my @apple.com account so all my new purchases (not to many, only 7 songs) will also have the same problem when I try to create and buy ringtones.
Thank you for any help I can get about this issue.

Don't know if you're still having this problem but...
I had the same thing. I couldn't create a ringtone in the regular iTunes store. The way I was able to create a ringtone was to take a song I'd downloaded that was ringtone-eligible (if you click on view/view options, click ringtones, and then by sort clicking on the ringtone icon, you'll have all the songs that are ringtone-eligible lined up together). Then I double-clicked on the ringtone icon next to the song I wanted. Then you'll be able to create the ringtone the way you like.
So if you download a song, you should be able to create a ringtone from your iTunes library.

Yes, the file extension is M4R.  Does it matter where I save these files on my Macbook?  I then opened them in Itunes and played them.  I did find the Tones folder in Itunes but the Tones or Ringtones tab does not show up when I select Iphone (within Itunes).  When I open the Tones folder in the Library, it is empty.  Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Can't create Ringtone for iPhone

everytime I click on the ringtone symbol next to the song I want, it says that I need to accept the iTunes Store Terms of Service and that by clicking 'OK' it will direct me to that. Thing is, I've already accepted that and when I click OK, it does nothing. It's becoming a real pain..any ideas?

I sent iTunes support a note about that and although they didn't answer my question directly, they got me around it. For what's worth, it did work; however, now I have a new problem. Long story short, don't create more than one ring tone for now. I'll post my crap about that momentarily...
    Here's what they wrote:
First I want you to try to create a ringtone with the following steps:
    1) If you haven't already, upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, which is available free of charge on the iTunes website:
    http://www.itunes.com/download
    2) Open iTunes, access the iTunes Store, and look at a few songs. A bell icon next to a song indicates that you can make a ringtone from the song. The bell icon does not mean that the song itself is a ringtone. If you do not see any bell icons, choose View > View Options, select the Ringtone checkbox, and click OK. A ringtone column will appear and any eligible songs will have bells next to them. Purchase any ringtone-eligible song you like.
    3) Now click Purchased in the list on the left. If you do not see any bell icons, choose View > View Options, select the Ringtone checkbox, and click OK.
    4) Click the bell next to a song to begin making a ringtone. The ringtone editor will appear at the bottom of the iTunes window.
    5) Adjust the highlighted area to choose the part of the song (up to 30 seconds) you want to use as your ringtone. You can also choose to fade in or out the audio by clicking the checkboxes in the highlighted area.
    6) Select a "Looping" length, which will set the gap between each ring. Click Preview to hear your ringtone before purchasing. Once you're satisfied with your ringtone, click Buy. Your iTunes Store account will be charged 99 cents plus any applicable taxes. Any song credits or video credits that may be on your account will not be used toward the purchase.
    7) Your ringtone will appear in your iTunes library Ringtones playlist on the left side of the iTunes window.
    8) To sync the ringtone to your iPhone, connect your iPhone to your computer. In iTunes, select your iPhone on the left and click Sync. iTunes will automatically sync any ringtones you create. To sync specific ringtones, with the iPhone selected on the left, click the Ringtones tab, choose Selected ringtones, and click Apply. Check the ringtones you want to sync and click Sync.
Please note that any ringtones you have previously synced to your iPhone will be replaced with the ringtones that you are currently syncing from your authorized iTunes library.
To set a ringtone as your default ringtone, go to the Home screen on your iPhone. Tap the Settings icon, then tap Sounds. Tap Ringtone, then choose a ringtone. This will become your default ringtone.
To assign a ringtone to a specific contact, go to the Home screen on your iPhone. Tap the the Phone icon, then go to your Contacts. Choose a contact, then tap Ringtone and choose the ringtone. When that contact calls, you will hear that ringtone.
Please note that iTunes creates ringtones for iPhone only, and the ringtones you create with your iTunes Store account may not be transferred to other accounts. Also note that even if you create a ringtone from iTunes Plus (DRM-free) content, the purchased ringtone will include DRM-protection.
