Can't Create Event

I'm a system administrator at a school. Currently I'm in the process of testing iMovie 08, as we've purchased the 3 year maintenance plan.
When trying to import from a DV deck I'm given the error
Can't Create Event
The import was canceled. You may not have permission to write to /Volumes/Storage/iMovie Events.localized.
Indeed, I can't write to the root of /Volumes/Storage, the student test account I'm using doesn't have access. I do however have a "student work" folder that they can write to. Is there any way I can get iMovie to create iMovie Events.localized in this folder rather than on the root of the drive? If not and there isn't a workaround, I guess we'll be sticking to iMovie 6.
Furthermore, the file being created on the root level implies that it is not multi-user aware. Is this right? Can users see each other's libraries? If the answer to either of those is 'yes' than it's not suitable for this environment and we'll be using the older version.
If someone is aware of a "Deploying iMovie 08 in a Managed Setting" document or similar, I'd appreciate the tip!
thanks,

Thanks for the quick reply, Lori. Yes the account does have a Movies folder, however there is no iMovie Events folder in there. Just iMovie Projects.
As an update, I manually created the folder /Volumes/Storage/iMovie Events.localized but it still would not work until I gave everybody full access to it. Then it was fine, so at least the error message is accurate. Obviously I can't leave it open wide like that once school starts.
EDIT: Just to be clear about my setup -- and WHY it's set up how it is -- the Movies folder is in the default location relative to the user home folder. The user home is on an XServe. Hence why I'm capturing video to a secondary internal partition (/Volumes/Storage).

  • How can I view my photos in "Events" like in iPhoto? How can I create events?  I have 55,000 photos and 1700 events so the only way I can possibly manage my photos is using events that are one slide in size.

    I have 55,000 images organized into about 1700 events. The only reasonable way to view my library is using events in iPhoto where each event has one image That still leaves 1700 images to sort through but that is a lot easier than 55,000 images.  In the side bar is a folder with "iPhoto Events" but those views still show all of the slides.  How can I create events and view my photos as events as in iPhoto?  Events are critical for large libraries and has been my primary way to sort images.
    Thanks!

    I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
    Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • Can't create events with times between 10:01 and 19:59

    I've recently updated to OSX 10.4.9, and now can't create events with times that start with a '1'. This only seems to be a problem on the day British Summer Time begins on 25 March.
    I usually create my events in the month view, and input the start and end times by clicking in the time boxes and typing in the hours and minutes. However when I try to put in a start time of, say, 11:00, it puts in 21:00 instead. The only way around this seems to be to put in a time it will accept, like 09:00, and using the arrow keys to move it to the time I want. Or creating the events in the day view and clicking on the start time there.
    Any ideas?

    Looks like you have found a wee bug. I can replicate it. You could report it though OS X Feedback or better though ADC, but for the latter you have to register first.
    I usually create events by double-clicking in week view; often this gets the start time right, but if not then edit the start time in the info pane. Your bug is there with events created in day and week views too.

  • Can't create events

    Hi,
    I am using iMovie 2011, on a Macbook Air late-2012 with Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I can't create events or projects in iMovie. I am getting the following error message :
    Can't create event.
    The import was canceled. You may not have permission to write to /iMovie Events.localized.
    It seems to think that the "iMovie Events" folder is in the System root. In fact, if I create a folder in the system root (bad practice), it works, but then I can't create projects. Creating a folder called "iMovie Projects" in the system root doesn't work because iMovie can't write to the folder. Now, I don't want either of those folders in the system root, I want them in ~/myusername/Movies, like they're supposed to be. I don't know why iMovie thinks they should be in the system root. Is there any way to reset this setting? I have tried deleting iMovie pref files, reinstalling iMovie, etc. but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Thanks,
    C.

    I would suggest calling Apple at the Contact Us link at the bottom right of this page. Your MBA should be still under warranty, so the call should not cost you anything (but verify).

  • Can not create Event on HDD

    This is somewhat similar to the other HDD postings but on mine I see the drive and can select it but it will not allow me to create events.
    This is a new computer that I just picked. At first when I installed FCPX I could not create events so I brought it back to my local Apple reseller who had just sold me a custom configured Macbook Pro. They could not figure it out but when 10.6.8 was release they installed it and it appeared to fix the FCPX problems.
    However after using it for an hour I got an error with one of my events, the clips were red with a yellow triangle. This problem was limited to this event so I continue to create new events and import clips, once I decided that the problem appears to be resolved I decided I would delete all of the work and setup FCPX to begin my work. I then shutdown the computer and when I started it backup to my surprised I can no longer create events on my second drive.
    I have check permissions and verified the drive is a Mac OS Journaled disk. I have deleted FCPX, reinstalled it, re-formated the drive but I still have the problem. The only thing that appears strange to me is in the Event Library FCPX lists my two drives as follows: Macintosh SSD(with a picture of a house), STORAGE (with a picture of a diskdrive). Now in the Project Library the same drives are listed in the same order however the Macintosh SSD picture is now a drive and the STORAGE now has a picture of a house.  It changed the pictures.
    Here is my configuration of my computer:
    -13" Macbook Pro.
    - The DVD was removed and the 500GB Apple SATA drive was installed in the space the DVD once occupied to be used as a scratch disk.
    - The OS was installed on a 120GB SSD that was installed inside the Macbook Pro.
    I have tried connecting a USB drive and that works.
    Every other application works fine but since I only purchased this computer for FCPX and chose this configuration based on the Apple reseller who know that my sole intention for this computer was running FCPX. I would not have purchased it if I know FCPX would not work.
    Any suggestions please let me know

    Hello,
    What if you try to create the APPROVE event using SWUE?
    I assume you are creating the event with the same key as for the SUBMIT event.
    As always, try SWU_OBUF.
    I've encountered that message before, never did find a reason for it. Please keep us informed how it eventually gets fixed.

  • Can not create event in workflow

    Hi Experts,
    I created a work flow. And assign a start event 'Submit' to it. This event is in oblect type Z. And when I create a document on webdynpro, i call SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT to create 'SUBMIT'. The work flow is triggered.
    But when approve the doc on webdynpro call SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT to create event APPROVED. It does not work.
    Why?
    Event trace message is: Event APPROVED for task WS99900001 not defined as start/end event
    The work flow is like this:
    Start event 'SUBMIT' --> STEP send mail to approver --> Wait 'APPROVED'
    Thank you in advance.

  • How can I create events dynamic for a Group/List?

    Hey,
    atm I'm programming a little application where i want to add elements to my center-pane.
    Simpyfied I got:
    - Center Pane : here shall the elements appear on right click in bottom-pane. This pane shall be used as anything like a playground where you can drag/drop and connect items from the bottom-pane
    - Bottom Pane: here I got about 180 elements which are quite equal. This is sth like a menu of items which you can use. I realised them in java classes extended from a parent class with differend calulations.
    What I want:
    I want to create an event handler for EACH of the "menu" elements dynamically. Just sth like:
        for (int i = 0; i < basic_menu_list.size(); i++)
          final Element el = hbox_bottom.getChildren().get(i);
          hbox_bottom.getChildren().get(i).setOnMouseClicked(new EventHandler<MouseEvent>()
            public void handle(MouseEvent event)
              if (event.isSecondaryButtonDown())
                playground.add(el);
                redrawPlayground();
        }But as i expected this doesnt work...
    Now my question:
    How can I solve this problem? Is there any option to listen to all elements of a group without hard-coding every single listener?
    Thanks for your help,
    Martin

    Hello User,
    Why did you expect that it wouldn't work?
    You have an example with "transition" apply on a bunch of circles in the Getting Started with JavaFx (http://download.oracle.com/javafx/2.0/get_started/jfxpub-get_started.htm)
    Here a basic example class...
    import javafx.application.Application;
    import javafx.event.EventHandler;
    import javafx.scene.Node;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.control.TextBox;
    import javafx.scene.input.MouseEvent;
    import javafx.scene.layout.Pane;
    import javafx.scene.layout.VBox;
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    public class HelloWorld extends Application {
        //~ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
        //~ Methods
        //~ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            // Entry point
            Application.launch(args);
        @Override
        public void start(Stage mainStage) throws Exception {
            Pane pane = new Pane();
            Scene scene = new Scene(pane, 200, 200);
            VBox vBox = new VBox();
            TextBox input1 = new TextBox();
            TextBox input2 = new TextBox();
            vBox.getChildren().addAll(input1, input2);
            for (Node input : vBox.getChildren()) {
                input.setOnMouseClicked(new EventHandler<MouseEvent>() {
                        public void handle(MouseEvent event) {
                            System.out.println("test click");
            pane.getChildren().add(vBox);
            mainStage.setScene(scene);
            mainStage.setVisible(true);
    }Niculaiu

  • Can't create event from iPad mail

    I Am using an iPad 2, with all updates.  When I try to create an event from an email, the right screen pops up, but the right hand side is cut off, so I have no save button.  Also can't change calendars, etc, because there is no save button on those screens too.  The calendar functions otherwise seem fine.  Help, please?

    That is a known issue. Although it has been reported in the past, another submission wouldn't hurt: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    To my knowledge, short of simply open the calendar app and creating the event from scratch, there is no workaround.

  • Can i create events?

    I want to do something like this:
    Have a thread which sleeps a certain amount of time and when awakes raise 'my event' and sleeps again, and so on.
    Now, how do i create 'my event' and how do i raise 'my event'.
    On the other hand, i need a listener to 'my event' and i need to put methods so objects can register as listeners of 'my event'.
    The events in awt are, of course, raised by a GUI element, such as a button or combo box, for example. But i need a thread (that has nothing to do with the awt package itself) to raise my event. Can i do that?
    So, i need an infrastructure around my 'my event' problem:
    1.Make a class called MyEvent which the thread will send
    2.Create a mechanism for the objects to register themselves as listeners of 'my event'
    3. And i think that's all
    What do you say?

    Yes, you can do that. You'll need to create a class to represent your event, and you'll need to start a thread to raise the event. It's fairly straightforward programming. Here's a very simple example of a class that can register listeners and fire events to those listeners. Code very similar to this is used in the Java libraries to register listeners for AWT components, etc.
    import java.util.Enumeration;
    import java.util.Vector;
    public class EventfulClass {
         private Vector mListeners = new Vector();
         protected void fireEvent(MyEvent ev) {
              for (Enumeration enum = mListeners.elements(); enum.hasMoreElements(); ) {
                   MyListener listener = (MyListener)enum.nextElement();
                   listener.myMethod(ev);
         public void addListener(MyListener listener) {
              mListeners.addElement(listener);
         public void removeListener(MyListener listener) {
              mListeners.removeElement(listener);

  • Using iPhoto, can I create events inside another event!?!? Is there a way??

    I would like to create an event inside another one that already exists, is there a way to do that?
    I want to create something like:
    An album called "Euro Trip" and inside this album other albuns called "Madrid, Barcelona, etc"
    By choosing "Divide events", they don't stay in the same "folder".
    Can anyone help me?

    Post this query on the iPhoto forum.  There are people who are oriented to iPhoto issues.
    I don't think you can do it.  The only suggestion I can think of is to start a new iPhoto Library for 'Euro Trip'.
    Ciao.

  • After deleting old default calendar, user can't create events

    Hello
    an User had two agendas. they asked to delete the old default agenda. and change the default to a new agenda. after this has been done, the user is not able to create new appointment in his agenda.
    I changed the default agenda using csattributes. I sure forgot to set permissions somewhere.??
    thank you.

    yes it does but it has a very special format which i do not understand.
    i found this out by using csattribute -v list username:
    uid=grochtus,ou=rbgMember,ou=people,ou=mrbc-mbhg,dc=irisnet,dc=be has icsCalendarOwned: grochtus:geert_rochtus_dircoco$geert_rochtus_dircoco
    what does the $ mean?
    the name of the calendar is :
    uid=grochtus,ou=rbgMember,ou=people,ou=mrbc-mbhg,dc=irisnet,dc=be has cn: Geert ROCHTUS
    uid=grochtus,ou=rbgMember,ou=people,ou=mrbc-mbhg,dc=irisnet,dc=be has icsCalendar: grochtus:geert_rochtus_dircoco
    another thing that came up is that this user is able to DELETE events but not able to create.

  • Can't open & create event in iCal

    I used to be able to open & create an event in iCal.  But, the last time I sync'd my iphone & macbook it asked me which event was correct.  I clicked on the one on the right and haven't been able to view or create on macbook since (can open & create event on iphone).

    What do you see when you click on the Event? Also can you see the photos in the Photo mode? In the Photos mode do you have Event Titles selected in the View menu so they display? That will let you find the event you want and see if you can see the photos there.
    Try the basic fix first: close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Iphoto, Creating events and Albums

    I have attempted to create events and albums on the photo app in Ipad with no success. I have also synced the iPad to itunes and transfered pictures from an existing iphoto (macbook pro) event with no success. How can i create events and albums on the Ipad so i can seperate new pictures into specific areas for viewing.

    You can't. Photos on the iPad doesn't have organising features. You can't create groupings, or copy from one event/whatever to another. You have limited features in the 'camera roll' for images you've saved onto the iPad - you can delete them or share them.
    Your organising has to be done on the Mac in iPhoto or Aperture. Both create Events based on metadata from the image (date and time and so on). You can make albums and sync the albums to the iPad.
    I know that isn't what you want, but it's all we've got. It bears repeating - the iPad is not a completely standalone device - it's dependent on a desktop and iTunes for its full functionality.
