Can't create image map

Hi there,
I'm trying to create a simple image map in Dreamweaver and haven't been able to make it work. Full disclosure, I only used the program for the first time today and have little web design background. I tried following this tutorial: Dreamweaver Help | Image maps but it didn't help unfortunately.
When I select the image in the document window, I don't see any of the hot spot creator buttons. When I select the code for the image in the code window, they appear, but I cannot select them to create the hotspots. I assume there is something very basic that I'm not doing, but it wasn't explained in the tutorial.
Any help would be appreciated!

Switch to Design View.   You can't edit image maps in Live View.

    Hi
I'm wanting to create a pretty complicated image map for a web page so it'll be lot's of polygons.  Does anyone know of a good bit of freeware I can use that will help me work out the coordinates for the image maps?
    Thanks

You could do this in any text or html editor.t I imaging you want a click and drag capability when selecting the areas of the image map. Try looking at some of these. https://www.google.com/search?q=image+map+create+apple+mac

  • Create PDF From Web Page Does Not Create Image Maps Properly

I have a website that contains image maps. When I "Create PDF From Web Page", these image maps are not rendered properly. From what I can tell, this is a BUG within Acrobat, and I'm hoping that people can confirm this for me.
I created a test page at http://www.quantumdynamix.net/clients/image-map-test/. I placed the images maps my manually coding the coordinate information, so the maps are PRECISELY placed exactly over the squares. Each image map navigates to an anchor corrisponding to the number on the red square.
When I created the PDF using the "Create PDF From Web Page" feature, the image maps are rendered improperly. This file can be viewed at http://www.quantumdynamix.net/clients/image-map-test/ImageMapTest.pdf. To view the outlines of the image maps, please select "Tools" -> "Advanced Editing" -> "Link Tool". You can see the outlines are substantially incorrect.
Please confirm that other can replicate this problem. Any solution to this issue would be very helpful!

I tested this in Acrobat X and the exact same issue occurs
    http://www.quantumdynamix.net/clients/image-map-test/ImageMapTest-AcrobatX.pdf
This has to be considered a legatimate bug, especially since IMAGE MAPS is listes as one of the supported HTML features via the help files

  • CSS Header - how to create image map on header image?

So I am pretty new to CSS.  I created a tag <div id="page_header"> and then have an image called "header.jpg" that shows up fine.  But now I want to make that header clickable so I can use it as the link back to the home page.  If it were a basic image, I could create an image map.  But since it is a CSS file, I can't figure out how to do this.  I know this has to be simple!
    Thanks for your help,

Thanks - so I would insert a transparent gif the same size as the header area (1000 X 300) the same way I would if it were a regular image?  Does this go before the <div id="page_header"> tag?
    Inside the div.

  • Unable to Create Image Map Hotspot

I've got a GIF image inserted into a RoboHelp HTML 8 topic and am trying to create multiple image map hotspots on the graphic. I successfully created the first hotspot (a rectangular one). When I try to create the second, the crosshair cursor displays, but when I drag with the mouse, it fails to draw a box outline. When I release the mouse, nothing happens.
This behavior is erratic. Sometimes, if I close and reopen the topic, I can draw a hotspot. Other times, if I complete exit and re-launch RoboHelp, I can draw a hotspot. Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to make it work more effectively?

Do you have many other hotspots in this topic?
Do you have other dynamic HTML in this topic (Related Topics, See Also, drop-down text, etc.)?
Have you been performing a lot of Cut/Paste operations prior to experiencing this issue?
Have you ever hit multiple keys in this topic and caused a RH crash?
RH places numerically identified data in the <HEAD> section for dynamic HTML entities, in addition to the related, numerically matched code that resides in the BODY section. At some point, these numeric matches can get corrupted (the old fat fingers causing a crash trick, for example). The only cure to that is to delete all the HEAD and BODY data, and then start over. Sorry.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Creating Image Maps

I need to figure out how to attach links to certain parts of
an image, I think this is called image mapping. I have done this
before using Front Page for Mac. Now I am using Contribute, and I
    can't figure it out.
    Anyone have any experience??

You can't create an imagemap in contribute.
You can slice up the image though and place the parts in a
table. That gives you the same effect. Don't forget to set the
border property of the images to '0', because otherwise you will
see a border (a tag propertie) when linking the image-part to
    another file/page.

  • Can we create the Mapping program, when source and target structures same?

    Hi Friends,
if we have the same structure at source side and target side:

    2) If no need of mapping program what you will mention in the Interface Mapping?
    3) In ID part which objects no need to create when both structures are same?

    Hi
    >1) Is it necessary to create the mapping program?
No need to create mapping if both structure identical in all respects.
    >2) If no need of mapping program what you will >mention in the Interface Mapping?
Dont define mapping and iterface mapping.
    >3) In ID part which objects no need to create when >both structures are same?
You cannt assign a interface mapping as it is not defined in IR. leave that as interface mapping is not mandatory in Interface Determination Step.

  • Can't create image files

Hello All, I have recently revamped my computer installing 2X 120gb sdd in raid 0 configuration and 24 gb of ram, I have been in the practise of burning a DVD image file and then burning discs in Nero using the multiple burner function. Since the revamp Encore stops when burning a DVD image file with about 15% to go, it will burn a DVD disc with no problems but I want to take advantage of the multiple burner function of Nero.
Is there something I didn't install when revamping the comuter ?

  • Image Maps link not working in Acrobat 8 3D PDFs generated from RoboHelp 7

All of my hyperlinks work when I just generated my RoboHelp
project to PDF using RoboHelp 7 with the new Adobe Technical
Communications Suite (with Acrobat 8 3D). However, the links to
topics within the document didn't maintain from the image maps. I
had originally created flowcharts in Microsoft Visio, exported then
as .gifs, and imported them into topics in RoboHelp X5. Then I
created image maps from the boxes to topics in the RoboHelp
project. When I converted my project to RoboHelp 7 and generated
the PDF, all the links work great, except I don't get the
finger-pointing cursor when I hover over the boxes in the
flowcharts like I do with regular hyperlinks. Can someone please
    tell me why? Thanks!

Sigh... and this is why no one like to work with newbies...
Thank you for your help. I am embarrased to admit that this was the issue.

  • Image map rollover show/hide layer

My client needs a map of the US which has image maps on specific states. I need to trigger rollovers to change the state's color and view info (layer?). I'm having difficulty triggering the rollover with show/hide action on a layer, or even to change the state color, as I can't create odd shaped slices. Am I making this harder than it needs to be? Some smaller states will use offset names as triggers.

You can do that with an image map and a whole bunch of images; no layers
    required.
The only image that will be swapped out is a map covering the entire
area, however you'd need to create different versions of the map, each
    with just one state hi-lighted.
Then create image map shapes with the polygon tool approximating the
shape of the states. Assign a Set Image URL to each polygon to swap out
the image for the one with that particular state hi-lighted.

  • Image Map percentage in FW CS6

    Hi,
I would like to create Image Map from Fireworks, but instead of pixels, is it possible to use percentage ?
I use FW CS6, so I assume this option has been made available already ?
Otherwise, in a general manner, is it possible to use percentage at all in an HTML export ?
    Jos

This sounds like the same problem that I have recently been having with FW CS5:
If I try to edit an exiting text entry, the program allows it -- but as soon as I move the cursor out of the text area, it reverts back to the original, saying that the 'file is locked'.
I also get an error message saying an "internal error" has taken place in the program. Then, when I close the program, I get the following error message:
I have been using this version of FW for several years (it's an authentic, registered copy), but the problem began in just the last few weeks. The only changes that I've made to my system in the last little while are the regular WIndows 7 updates. (Could there be a connection?)
I've tried reinstalling the program, but the problem is still there.
If you find how to solve your problem, can you post how you fixed it?
    Thanks.

  • How to embed an image map in email?

I couldn't find any help on this topic when I searched Fireworks and Dreamweaver.
I want to create an image map (either in Fireworks or in Dreamweaver) and then send it in an email. I've created image maps in older versions of Dreamweaver, and I've used slices in older versions of Fireworks. I just want different parts of the picture to take me to different URLs, but I haven't even been able to get close in my tests.
    Any tips, please?
    Chuck

Creating HTML for email is a subject unto itself. Every major email client has different limitations. Before you try just copying an HTML page into an email, you should do some research into creating HTML emails. SitePoint has some articles:
    http://www.sitepoint.com/article/code-html-email-newsletters/
    http://www.sitepoint.com/article/designers-guide-html-email/
    http://www.sitepoint.com/article/principles-beautiful-html-email/
One of the SitePoint articles links to two services: CampaignMonitor and MailChimp. CampaignMonitor does not recommend the use of image maps becasue of poor support by Gmail:
    http://www.campaignmonitor.com/blog/post/2432/do-image-maps-work-in-html-ema/
MailChip recommends being careful with image placement simply because many clients will automatically block images when the mail is first loaded:
    http://www.mailchimp.com/articles/stupid-html-email-design-mistakes/
Both sites have free templates you can download to use.
    Good luck!

  • Image Map Implementation

Can someone walk me through the process of creating image maps in portal? I know how to import an image. What I don't know is how to how to make that image an imagemap where I can click on different part of my image and view a report, file, folder or a url.

    Hallo,
You have to create your imagemap in a HTML-Editor first.
Second step is, to add an image item to your folder. In the Upload Wizard you have first to upload the image from your filesystem, then you have to give your imagemap a name. This name must be the same as in the <map>-tag.
In the following textarea "Imagemap" you paste the HTML-Code of your imagemap. The rest of the options are clear at all.
    Example:
    <map name="bmvit">
<area alt="Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology: Science and Technology policy activities" coords="266,63,315,82" href="http://www.bmvit.gv.at/">
    <area alt="Technologies for sustainable development" coords="85,92,165,160" href="http://www.bmv.gv.at/tech/enuumw/index.htm">
    <area alt="Intelligent transport systems and services" coords="172,92,252,160" href="http://www.bmv.gv.at/tech/wirtech/mobil.htm">
    <area alt="IT-related activities" coords="259,92,339,161" href="http://www.bmv.gv.at/tech/infoges/index.htm">
    <area alt="Patent office" coords="416,181,500,212" href="http://www.patent.bmwa.gv.at/">
