Can't create iTunes playlist in my iTouch?

I can NOT create a playlist when I have iTunes Open and my iTouch is synced in. I have authorized my laptop but I can't seem to get it to work. I have music from my desktop, dragged it into my iTunes libary without a proble, put it onto my itouch's main "music" section but I can not drag and drop it into playlists and I can't delete songs or move them out of a playlist on my iTouch. Please help me.. I don't want to restore my iTouch because I'll lose all my Movies as well as my songs.

Don't use iTunes to add songs to a playlist on the uTouch.
Add the songs to the playlist in iTunes then drag the playlist to the uTouch

I can download, create a playlist with both music and music video, stream that through the Apple TV with no problem. I finally got it... had to sync the photos with the music in iMovie, arrange the voiceover in GarageBand then export to iTunes, and then I was able to put it all together in iMovie and burn in iDVD... had a few glitches along the way but finally finished : )

You can certainly create a playlist since a playlist is simply a text list of a selection of tracks. Use export in the iTunes file menu. That won't include the actual music which is a bunch of files on your computer and it is probably illegal for you to share them. Or do you mean to ask how to make suggestions through the iTunes Store?

Hi all,
Does anybody know how I can download my iTunes playlist onto my IPad mini so that I can play it without being connected to WiFi? At the moment if I am not in a WiFi zone I can't play my music...

Apple devices can hold protected content from up to five different accounts, however updating apps purchased over more than one account (as far as I'm aware) requires signing in and out of each account. You may be better off continuing to use one account for your family, as I do, but disabling the options on each device for the automatic download of purchases made on the account, and in iTunes, the automatic inclusion of new apps when syncing from the library to the device.

My computer cannot run Sharing so I don't have firsthand experience. My reading of it is:
1) Music sharing lets you stream (not transfer) select items, including specific playlists, between local computers on the same network.
2) Home Sharing lets you stream or transfer media files between computers on the same network. I don't know if this is as spacific as particular playlists, or you you have to make the playlist once the desired content is transferred. It says media so doesn't look like it restricts transfer to specific playlists, it just makes your whole media collection accessible on another authorized computer.
You can export a playlist file from iTunes, but this is a text file listing of content, not a complete playable package.

I painstakingly spent a considerable amout of time creating a playlist in iTunes on Windows, and now when I sync my iPhone, and open the Music app, I do not see the playlist at all. When I select 'On this device' in iTunes, I can see the playlist listed, but a large number of the songs are greyed out, and do not play in iTunes. These are simply songs I selected from my iTunes library into an iTunes playlist, and I sync'ed my iPhone saying transfer only selected playlists, etc, and now the playlist does NOT show up on the iPhone.
Any ideas?

Can't create smart playlists because iTunes can't see all my playlists

I noticed that my smart playlists aren't updating properly. When I tried to edit them, I got an error message saying "This smart playlist depends on one or more playlists that cannot be found." I am using as one of my rules "Playlist is" but the dropdown list next to that rule does not show all of my playlists. It shows some of my smart playlists, none of the "regular" playlists. That means I cannot fix the smart playlist.
For example, I have a playlist called "exercise" that is a regular playlist. It contains 965 songs that I have added manually. I can see the "Exercise" playlist just fine in iTunes, and I can add/remove songs from it. But my smart playlist, "Top Exercise Rare Recent," does not work, because it depends on the rule "Playlist Is Exercise." When I try to edit the rule "Playlist is," I cannot choose "Exercise" from the dropdown list--that playlist simply does not show up. But it is there. I can see it in iTunes. I just can't see it in the dropdown list.
I don't even know what to try to fix this.
In case it matters, a few versions ago, an iTunes update "lost" my library. I had saved backup of my library files, fortunately, so I did not lose all of my ratings and playlists (at least, I didn't think I did). After I restored my library files, iTunes did not recognize my iPod classic so I had to re-sync it (removing everything that was on it and replacing it with whatever was in iTunes, i.e., exactly the same files). Then the next update broke my ability to burn playlists to cds AND it broke my system clock. I had to revert to a restore point that preceded the iTunes update, then reinstall iTunes, then "repair" the installation to get my cd burning ability back.
I am now using iTunes 11.3.1.2 on a Windows 8.1 PC (64-bit). Wishing I had never update

Can't create a playlist of podcasts with iTunes 7

Before iTunes 7, I was able to create a playlist consisting of a particular podcast, and play those tracks continuously. Now when I create a playlist of that podcast, only one podcast will play and then it goes to the main menu. When that podcast is playing, it is listed as track 1/1. This problem seems to only affect podcasts and not songs. Anyone have any fixes?

I have this working without problems. I have a smart playlist with two rules.
genre is podcast
playcount < 1
This worked with 6 and still works with version 7. I just wish you could sort be podcast date but that is not an option.

Can I transfer iTunes playlist on XP Pro to XP machine?

I need to get rid of my XP Pro computer and that's where my iTunes resides. Currently, I have a bunch of playlists (about 25 or so) and would really like to move them to the XP machine that will be my iTunes home. Can someone tell me how to do that or will my playlists be lost and need to be recreated?
I'm assuming that iTunes creates some playlist file. If so, then I suppose that all I need to know is the location of the file because it can be moved by copying it and replacing the same file on the new machine.
My iTunes library (almost 10 gigs of owned CDs) is on an external 230 Gig drive, but I didn't install iTunes on the external drive because I know it makes changes to the registry and it didn't seem to make sense to put it on an external drive. Why waste the space? (Guess the answer to that could be, because your playlist file is then on your external drive, dummy!) Importing into iTunes took a lot of time and it will take a lot more to finish my music library; the entire library's divided into playlists--some songs in multiple playlists. Grrrr....
PC Windows XP Pro

You can 'clone' the current iTunes Library from the XP Pro PC to the XP PC. This will keep all the Playlists and the metadata stored in the Library (Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played).
As your music files are stored on the ExHD, just make sure that you install the ExHD on the new PC with the music files as the same drive letter and path that they currently are in the old PC.
Then, copy the old PC's 'iTunes Library.itl' database file into the new PC's 'iTunes' folder. You will replace the newly created 'iTunes Library.itl' file that is there, with the one from the old PC. Open iTunes, and your Library will be exactly the same as before (providing you set it up correctly).
The iTunes music information (meta-data) is stored in two places: the actual individual song files themselves, and the iTunes Library database file (‘iTunes Library.itl’). There is a corresponding XML file that is created by iTunes, but not directly used. See: What are the iTunes Library files?.
Song attributes stored directly in each music file are as follows: Artist, Album, Song Title, Year, Comments, Compilation tag, Lyrics, Genre , Grouping, Composer, BPM, Album Artwork, Bit Rate & Kind (Both not tags - inherent to the file itself).
Song attributes stored in the iTunes Library database file only are: Playlists, Ratings, Play Count, Last Played, Date Added, Date Modified, Equalizer, Volume Adjustment.
Shouldn't be too difficult. You seem to have a start on the concept already.
While you're at it, make legacy copies of the ITL file for archiving and backup. This will come in handy (along with the backup music files) when you need to recreate your Library.

How can I create a playlist from all songs in a single folder

On my D: drive I've got a folder called MUSIC. Under MUSIC I've got folders by artist and then album. I have no problems putting together playlists from these artists. But I have a few folders that are a combination of many different artists songs. I can't find a way to view this group in iTunes and create the a playlist from these mixed folders. It appears I'd have to hunt for all the songs individually through all my music and add them one at a time...a nightmare.
What I was hoping for was the ability to go to my MUSIC tab under my LIBRARY and add a column for file location. That way I'd sort them by folder location and grab them that way.
I created my playlist and tried to simply drag/drop the folder and/or the songs directly from windows explorer but of course that didn't work.
Is there a way to do this?

Drag them from where? I've tried to drag them from windows explorer and it won't allow me. It seems the only place I can drag files from is from the iTunes library list. The problem is there is no way that I can find to just see the songs from a specific folder on my drive in the iTunes library list. It sorts them by artist, album, genre, etc....but not by folder.

I want to let my friend create a playlist from songs in MY library, but from HIS computer, so I copied my Library.itl and Library.XML files to his PC to let him peruse what I have. Obviously this only lets hin VIEW the songs, NOT play them. Is there a way he can create a playlist that I can then move back to my library and put on my iPod?
I've tried dragging and dropping as well as right click>Add to Playlist, but neither method works when the files associated are not present.

No. iTunes will only add media to a playlist if the media files are present.

I'm just trying to use itunes properly finally but am struggling, even after watching the tutorials. I can't delete a song from my list, or create a playlist as when I click on a song, nothing else happens, can't drag it or delete it. Anyone have any idea why this might be?

Drag and drop to a playlist got messed up in a recent "upgrade." It has been reported here several times. Use the "Add to Playlist" method for now, and I am sure the problem will be corrected in a coming update.
