Can't create slideshow

No matter how many times I try, I cannot create a slideshow in QT Pro. I have followed the directions but instead of a slideshow I get one photo, the initial one I selected (per the directions). I may have to resort to MS PowerPoint, which will not give me the result I want. Your help much appreciatd.

Don't know what to say. They work just fine on my Mac and PC.
Only suspicion is "permissions".
Can you try while logged in as a different user?
It could be a corrupt preference file for QuickTime Player and I'll try to find where that data is held. I rarely use my PC and it's really just a "test" machine so I don't know where it is.

The link above pertains to iTunes but some of it may help you sort this out.

  • Can I create slideshows in other formats?

A friend  with a Windows laptop just failed to open a *MOV file I had created in iPhoto, a slideshow.
Is there a (more) universal format I should choose? If so, how can I do that? iPhoto pretty much locks me into  Quicktime.

Your friend can install QuickTime for Windows. It's free, just installing iTunes will do that for you. iPhoto can export to a huge range of formats - click on the Custom Export button when you export. But they're all going to be QuickTime based. There are many video converters out there too. There is no universal format in video, unfortunately.

(Fifth futile attempt in two hours, before I learned there was a Post webpage – I’m new to ApSuppCom - and after I learned that I am not allowed to update previous content, so I had to back out, make a few changes, and start over.)  How can I export slideshows created in Aperture v3.3.2 (complete with superimposed captions and music tracks) from Mid-2009 MacBook Pro-17 to blank DVDs ?  (Some other specs: Mac OS Lion 10.7.5; Capacity 499.5 GB;  Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core  2 Duo; Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3; Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB)
I cannot do a copy (export) without various error messages appearing and the inevitable stoppage occurring.  Always with the DVD Video Player final message reading, “Supported disc not available.” Advisors and Mac Geniuses at local Apple Stores have told me to try Roxio Toast.  When I visited the Roxio website, and found numerous other company products, the descriptions all seemed to suggest that most of the apps shown can easily export videos to DVDs, but nothing was said about finished digital slide shows being exported.  At future events soon,  I hope to be handing out these finished DVDs (free) to the people in them.   Any help will be greatly appreciated. Aperture cannot burn slideshows to a DVD.  It only can export a video of your slideshow.
In Aperture 3 you use the "Export" button in Aperture's slideshow project to render a video to a folder on your disk.
Then you use iDVD or another program to burn a video DVD.

Could you please describe the exact steps that are causing these error messages?
How are you exporting your slideshow from Aperture? Which settings are you using? And how are you importing the video to iDVD or Toast to burn a video DVD?

How can I create a slideshow that depicts only a version of a photo rather than the original?   Since the original and new versions are saved together, the aperture slideshow often choices the original rather than the desired version to display.

There are two things we use the name "Slideshow" for in Aperture:  a Slideshow Album, used for making Slideshows, and the Slideshow that is made.  (Imho, it is a design mistake to not call the containers used to create Slideshows, Books, etc., "Albums".)
The Slideshow will use the Album Pick from any Stack.  A good way to use Aperture is to promote the Image you want to regularly use (such as, for example, a Version with adjustments) to the top of the Stack.  This makes it the Stack Pick, and will be the default Album Pick.  If you haven't done that, you can still change the Album Pick for any Stack in a Slideshow Album.  Expand your Stack(s), select the Image in each Stack that you want to be the Album Pick (and thus shown in the Slideshow), and "Stacks➞Set Album Pick".  (Note the keyboard shortcut; there is also a Toolbar icon for this.)  The change is immediate.  The Slideshow will always show the Album Pick (or, if there is not one, the Stack Pick) for every Stack in your Slideshow Album.

Not possible... to have HD output you need one of the "announced but not shipped" players, since the DVD specification does not provide for HD content that will play out to your HD Television... you simply can't stuff HD content on a DVD and have it play from the DVD to a TV

  • Can't find "Create Slideshow" dialog box.

I have Premiere Elements 7, and am trying to create a slideshow.  The Help page refers to a "Create Slideshow" dialog box, but I don't see that anywhere.  I've looked through every menu, every icon, and tried right clicking on the photos that were dragged down to the timeline, but no slideshow option.
I've done slideshows manually using PE7 before, but it's a big pain having to manually reset the duration of each slide, rather than changing the default somehow.
    Thanks!
    Bennett

There are actually four different ways to build slideshows in Premiere Elements, and I show you how to do each in my books.
But I think you're referring to the slideshow creator on the Project panel. To use it, select several stills or clips in the Project panel (by selecting as you hold down the Ctrl or Shift key) and right-click. This will open the panel I think you're looking for.

I need your help with a decision to use iPhoto.  I have been a PC user since the mid 1980’s and more recently have used ACDSee to manage my photo images and Photoshop to edit them.  I have used ProShow Gold to create slideshows.  I am comfortable with my own folder and file naming conventions. I currently have over 23,000 images of which around 60% are scans going back 75 years.  Since I keep a copy of the originals, the storage requirements for over 46,000 images is huge.  180GB plus.
I now have a Macbook Pro and will add an iMac when the new models arrive.  For my photos, I want to stay with Photoshop which also gives me the Bridge.  The only obvious reason to use iPhoto is to take advantage of Faces and the link to iMovie to make slideshows.  What am I missing and is using iPhoto worth the effort?
If I choose to use iPhoto, I am not certain whether I need to load the originals and the edited versions. I suspect that just the latter is sufficient.  If I set PhotoShop as my external editor, I presume that iPhoto will keep track of all changes moving forward.  However, over 23,000 images in iPhoto makes me twitchy and they are appear hidden within iPhoto.  In the past, I have experienced syncing problems with, and database errors in, large databases.  If I break up the images into a number of projects, I loose the value of Faces reaching back over time.
Some guidance and insight would be appreciated.  I have a number of Faces questions which I will save for later.

Bridge and Photoshop is a common file-based management system. (Not sure why you'd have used ACDSEE as well as Bridge.) In any event, it's on the way out. You won't be using it in 5 years time.
Up to this the lack of processing power on your computer left no choice but to organise this way. But file based organisation is as sensible as organising a Shoe Warehouse based on the colour of the boxes. It's also ultimately data-destructive.
Modern systems are Database driven. Files are managed, Images imported, virtual versions, lossless processing and unlimited editing are the way forward.
For a Photographer Photoshop is overkill. It's an enormously powerful app, a staple of the Graphic Designers' trade. A Photographer uses maybe 15% to 20% of its capability.
Apps like iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture are the way forward - for photographers. There's the 20% of Photoshop that shooters actually use, coupled with management and lossless processing. Pop over to the Aperture or Lightroom forums (on the Adobe site) and one comment shows up over and over again... "Since I started using Aperture/ Lightroom I hardly ever use Photoshop any more..." and if there is a job that these apps can do, then the (much) cheaper Elements will do it.
The change is not easy though, especially if you have a long-standing and well thought out filing system of your own. The first thing I would strongly advise is that you experiment before making any decisions. So I would create a Library, import 300 or 400 shots and play. You might as well do this in iPhoto to begin with - though if you’re a serious hobbyist or a Pro then you'll find yourself looking further afield pretty soon. iPhoto is good for the family snapper, taking shots at birthdays and sharing them with friends and family.
Next: If you're going to successfully use these apps you need to make a leap: Your files are not your Photos.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
When you process an image in iPhoto the file is never touched, instead your decisions are recorded in the database. When you view the image then the Master is presented with these decisions applied to it. That's why it's lossless. You can also have multiple versions and waste no disk space because they are all just listings in the database.
These apps replace the Finder (File Browser) for managing your Photos. They become the Go-To app for anything to do with your photos. They replace Bridge too as they become a front-end for Photoshop.
So, want to use a photo for something - Export it. Choose the format, size and quality you want and there it is. If you're emailing, uploading to websites then these apps have a "good enough for most things" version called the Preview - this will be missing some metadata.
So it's a big change from a file-based to Photo-based management, from editing files to processing Photos and it's worth thinking it through before you decide.

  • Can't get slideshow to work!

Sorry about yet another basic question, but I can't get slideshow to work.
I have created a My Photos page template, dragged an Album into it. That looks OK, but when I click on play slideshow, nothing happens.
Enable Slideshow is ticked in Inspector.
    Any help on this?

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand? How are you uploading the files? Maybe not all files are getting to the server. Wouldn't be the first time that happened.

  • How can I create a full width composition

    Hi All
I'm loving the new update and as usual this leads onto other things.
How can I create a full width (scalable) composition without a work around?
The new full width icon only seems to work with slideshows.
    Thanks

Did anyone ever figure this out or get an answer?  I like how it works on this site:
    LIVESTRONG.org
Click on the words and links in the pictures but it is  full width.  The full width option isn't available on a composition.

  • Problem creating slideshow

I've created a slideshow in iPhoto '09. It looks great on my monitor. I click on 'Share -> Send to iDVD. I can then preview it, but it looks absolutely awful. All the images are very dark, lost detail in the shadow areas, and it has a red color cast so everyone looks sunburned. I haven't actually burned it to a DVD yet, will try that tomorrow. I also can't get it to loop. It is about 3 1/2 mins. long, no music, and I was hoping it would just continue looping like it does on my iMac. I have a Macbook Pro, but at the restaurant where this will be showing, they do not know how to hook up a Mac to their projector. They couldn't give me specifics about their projector, so I am borrowing a PC laptop to run a DVD (hopefully).
I have been able to copy the slide show to a flash drive, and it shows very well using that, but it loses it's looping function.
I know this is a Mac group, but if I can import the slideshow onto the PC, and show it that way, does anyone know how to make it loop (play continuously)? I'm in a time crunch here, because this is needed at a party in a few days.
Thanks so much for any suggestions you can throw my way.

Me again! On my iMac, I opened up Quicktime, dragged the slideshow over to it's icon on the dock, clicked on 'View -> Loop' and it worked brilliantly. Images look good, and yes, it DID loop! Yay!
Now, does this drag and drop routine work on a PC? How do I get it to open on a PC? And will it have the same icons in the top menu bar? I told you I was ignorant about PC's!!!
Thanks so very much for your help. I can now burn it to DVD without really worrying about the looping. The DVD will now just be a remembrance and not really need to repeat endlessly.
