Can't crop an image in CC2014

Hi  I can't crop and image in photoshop. I keep getting the message "Cannot complete your request because of a program error".
I tried resizing the canvas and received the same error.
I uninstalled (removing preferences and reinstalled the photoshop app but still get the same error.
I am in windows 7 Service pack 1.
Thanks in advance  for any good ideas on resolving this problem.
Rose

Sounds frustrating. Have you tried chatting with Adobe tech support? They're in India, but very smart and very polite. It may take awhile (like an hour), but they've been able to solve every issue I've had so far ...

Good luck.

  • Can I crop the image in the canvas

Can I crop the image from the canvas area so I could make several windows to add some video clips or do I have to just reduce the size of the image and make the composite of the videos. i want to make vertical, rectangle and square composite of several video clips.

The Time Remap (simulating the corresponding function in FCP) can do basically 2 things:
    a. apply keyframing to the speed of the clip: you can start a clip with speed = 0% (like a freeze frame) and gradually speed up the clip to its end at 100% (standard speed); or viceversa; or start at 100%, slow down to 0% in the middle and back up to 100% at the end. You can apply just any speed variation by keyframing the Speed control.
    b. force the clip to play a frame in a time different than in the original clip; for example you want to have some action originally at time 2secs in sync with a drum roll occurring at frame 2,5secs: just keyframe that action frame at 2,5secs. Then the video clip before 2secs will slow down to meet the drum roll at 2,5secs and then speedup to go back in sync at the end of the clip.
    A few notes:
    - only video is affected, not audio (different from FCE Speed command)
    - the clip length does not change
    - to see the result in the canvas always render: what you see in the viewer is not the final result.
    - instructions on its use are in the download page - if they are not clear let me know.
As a suggestion you can read Ken Stone's Time Remap up to Time Remap in timeline excluded. It describes this function as implemented in FCP4, but its principles (and some details) are the same as in my filter.
    Let me know...

  • Can you crop an image in Flex?

Hi.  I am writing a small Air application in Flex where a bunch of images will be imported at a resolution of 120x80 pixels.  To use them in the application, I need them to be square at 80x80 pixels.  Right now they are squished because I am forcing the 120x80 image to fit into and 80x80 container.  To make it look more professional, I need to crop the images to 80x80 pixels.  Is there a way to do this in Flex, and if so, how?  Thanks.

Once the images are cropped to 80x80 pixels, the images will be manipulated by rotating and moving them.  Because of this, I thought that cropping them would be a better alternative to masking(I don't know if masking also masks mouse-overs and things like that, which is why I thought about cropping)
So if anyone knows how to crop an image in Flex, I would love to hear it.  Or if you know of any good resources or tutorials for it, could you point them out.  Thanks.

  • Can I crop an image then apply the Ken Burns effect?

I shot a panoramic still with the iOS6 on my iPhone 4S.  I guess because I didn't hold it steady there are white boundries on the top and bottom.  I would like to crop these pieces out and then apply the Ken Burns effect.

Crop the image in Preview or iPhoto.

Once I commit to a crop in Expert can I crop it again?

If you mean you can crop the already cropped file, yes.
If you mean you can try another different crop from the original picture, no.
In an editing session you can use the history panel to get back to the editing state before the first crop.
If you choose to 'open in ACR' (automatic if you shoot raw), the ACR edits are 'non destructive', you can always change the crop settings even after you have applied many adjustments with the various sliders.

  • Can you automatically downsample images in Keynote without cropping?

    Hello All,
I am trying to get Keynote to perform what I think is a pretty basic task, but can't figure out how to make it happen.  I am an art teacher and frequently show my students slide shows made from a large database of .jpgs I have amassed.  Most of the .jpgs were scanned at high resolutions - roughly 2500px on the long edge.  They are made at this size to anticipate improvements in projector resolution in the future.  The slideshows I make are at XGA (1024x768) because this is the native resolution of the school's projectors.
I want to be able to drop large numbers of slides into a slideshow and have Keynote to automatically downsample them to fit on an XGA slide without cropping the image. I currently have "Reduce placed images to fit on slides" checked in the General Preferences.  This does downsample the images, but does so in a way that fills the slide with the image and crops on one dimension depending on the aspect ratio of the image.  So for example, with the two Kertesz images below, the top and bottom is cropped off the first one and the sides off of the second one.  Keynote scales it down so that the image fills the entire slide rather than scaling down so the entire image can fit on the slide.
    FIG 1a
    FIG 2a
I can then go in and resize the image manually in the metrics tab of the inspector so that the full image is represented in each slide (Fig 1b and 2b below).  I have to type in the dimension that is being cropped (768 in Fig 1, 1024 in Fig 2).  This further downsamples the image fitting the entire image on the slide which is desired.  Doing this for each slide can be burdensome though if I am showing slideshows of 100 or so images.  My question is if there is a way to get the results below automatically.  I would like to drop multiple images into my slideshow and have it be downsampled so that the entire image fits on the slide.  Does anyone know how to make Keynote do this?  Thanks.

In the layer of interest make sure the vector mask is selected. Then in the Masks panel adjust the feather slider to an amount that looks right.

  • How can I create side bars without cropping the image?

I want to create side bars because I am projecting in an vertical panel, but if I crop the image them I only get the middle part of it.
How can I create side bars in an way that I can still move the image inside?

On a Video Track directly above the clip(s) you want to have behind the side bars, place a clip of Color (or whatever you want to use for your sidebars).
Now go to the Effects Tab > Matte >Mask Shape and drag the Mask Shape filter to the Color clip you have placed on the timeline.
Double click on the clip to open it in the viewer, and click on the Filters Tab.
Click Invert Box, and adjust the shape to get the side bars you want.
And now the clip(s) that are beneath this effect will have the side bars and be independent of it, so that you can move them around.

How can I resize an image without losing resolution or using the crop tool? I am using Photoshop Elements 13 on a PC.

    Hi Peru Bob,
I've tried two images, the results were:
    Image 1
    Jpg, original file size 923KB, dimensions 848px x 279px.
After resizing to 848px x 180px with 72dpi, the file size decreased to 164KB.
    Image 2
    Jpg, original file size 809KB, dimensions 1200px x 1800px.
After resizing to 668px x 722px with 72dpi, the file size decreased to 307KB.
So, there seems to be a fair file size loss - is this to be expected?

  • Can't Crop Images Properly

    Hello everyone,
I am using Adobe Photoshop CC and I want to crop an image  by a specific Width x Height. In previous versions of Photoshop, I was easily able to select the crop tool and input the dimensions up top where it would be labeled as W x H. Now, there are no options for W x H now and all I can choose are weird ratios. I have looked online on how to use the crop tool, and every single tutorial I've looked at says to use the Width x Height option, AKA unconstrained, but that doesn't exist. Instead, all I can choose are ratios and there are arrows in between the input boxes instead of an "x" symbol. I've attached an image to show what few options I have, none of which are Width x Height or unconstrained. How do I fix this?

What you have highlighted is what you want.  Select that and put the values in on the menu bar.

  • Something is wrong with the cropping.  It won't let me crop the picture.  Usually the arrow would appear so I can drag it to crop the image but now the little hand appear and does not change to the arrow.

I cannot use my crop function in editing.  The little hand would not change to the arrow hence cannot drag to crop the image.  It just happened today.

Lets start with details - what version of iPhoto and of the OS?
anything else that might help figure this out?

  • How Can I Move the Image in the Workspace to Align with 0 on the Ruler (CS5)?

I am completely new to Photoshop (CS5) so I don't know all the correct terms to explain my problem but I'll try.  I'm working on a computer with Windows 7.
I open a RAW image and edit it to my satisfaction, and then I "Open Image" in CS5 to do a little more with it, mainly crop it.  I have adjusted the rulers so zero is near the upper left corner.  I want the image's upper left corner to snap to the 0/0 ruler point on the screen.  I can't get the image to move at all.  I've tried Move, Hand. Select and Move, Snap To Guides, and everything else I can think of.  The reason I want to do this is so I can see the image when I have an Image Adjustment window open (Sharpen, Levels, etc.) -- all those "working" windows cover up the image and/or my panel on the right side of the screen.  An odd thing is that the horizontal ruler goes clear over to the right side of my screen, above the panel, and this places my image smack in the center of the screen instead of the center of the workspace (the screen minus the panel and the list of Tools).
Any suggestions would really be appreciated!   This is a very frustrating problem!

Sounds like what you want is Window > Arrange > Float in Window. This puts the image into a seperate, normal window, rather than the tabbed interface that Adobe has foisted on us (Float in Window used to be the default).
When viewed as normal windows, if you ALT + CTRL + plus or ALT + CTRL + minus, it will zoom in and out, expanding and contracting the window to fit.
For the Toolbar, if you drag it to the left of your screen, you can dock it to the left edge. When the toolbar is docked, other windows won't open underneath it.
Another handy shortcut when you find all your panels distracting is the H key, to show/hide the "Extras". Be sure to set it back to "Show" when you're done; it's all too easy to be wondering, "Why isn't my paintbrush working?", only to realize you have and active selection hidden.

  • Is there any way to prevent Aperture from Auto Cropping an image?

Is there any way to prevent Aperture from auto cropping an image? I use the "Do Not Crop" aspect ratio often and Aperture constantly picks cropping aspects for me, which is driving me crazy. Can I set "Do Not Crop" as the ratio I want on a more permanent basis anyhow? Thanks for the help.
    Chris

This is a current bug.  Please report it via "Aperture→Send Aperture Feedback".
Just to clarify, the problem is not auto-cropping, the problem is the the crop tool aspect ratio is arbitrarily set (in my case, always to something close to the current crop aspect ratio).  You can reset it (on a per-crop basis) to "Do not constrain".
    It is very bothersome.
You might try trashing your prefs.  Details on the Trouble-shooting page.  I have had the bug return more than once.

  • Do all the "themes" automatically crop the image?

I tried all six themes - and all six of them crop the image in one way or another.
is there any way to avoid this? is there a theme or something I can do to show the entire image on the slide show?
    thanks!
    WF

What aspect (size) ratio are your photos? Most of the themes, books, etc. are designed to a 4:3 aspect ratio as that's usually what most digital cameras create. You also have to set the display aspect ratio to 4:3 to avoid cutting off any of the photos (see bottom of screenshot below):
The one theme that does not work is Sliding Panels as it uses frames that are not 4:3.

  • How do I crop an image in Flash?

I've been croping my pictures to use in my flash in photoshop but I want to crop the pictures so they fit the size of my page in flash. Does anyone know how to crop pictures in flash?

There is no tool to crop the image, you can make an mask on it but still the whole image resides within the stage. May be you can break apart and remove the unwanted sides, but not for practice.
