Can't Decide!!! Need Help!!!

I am stuck between the MacBook Pro 15" and the MacPro quad. I have the funds for the MBP, but am hesitant b/c I will primarily be using it to run the adobe design line up. I know the MP will work like a champ, but it could be another year before I can afford it. I also don't want to dive in head first and get the MBP b/c I can, only to find that I'm spending more time waiting for it to catch up to my edits of a graphic file that's 100mb or less.
Is there anyone out there who has the MBP 15" 2.66Ghz (late 2008/Current generation) that has an opinion or is actually using it for design work???

Hi, dmar588. Put your mind at rest about the MBP's ability to handle your work. I'm running Design Premium CS4 on my 2.4GHz 15" MBP with 4GB RAM and a 5400RPM drive, and I'm thrilled with the performance. I was using Photoshop CS2 before I got CS4, and I still have both versions installed. I just ran a few simple tests. Double-clicking a 106GB Photoshop file opens PS CS4 and presents the file, ready to edit, in six seconds. In CS2 the same operation takes 38 seconds. I can Unsharp Mask the file in CS4 in less time than I can measure accurately: a second or two. Several other randomly selected filters all ran in six to nine seconds after previewing almost instantly.
I rarely work with Photoshop files any larger than that, and I'm not a real professional designer so I don't push the CS4 apps (or my computer) to their limits. Your mileage may vary.
So with the question about the MBP's capabilities out of the way, you need to decide whether you want a portable or a desktop computer. None of us help you with that.

It really comes down to your desire for a fast Desktop, or a fast portable. Only you can decide whether or not you want to "go portable." Either one would suite your professional needs, and do so extremely well. And Macs simply don't just "crash" (not if they are working as they should). My well-over-1-year-old 17" Macbook Pro has never been shut down, and I rarely restart it. No crashes, no problems. I have seen my wife's 3-year-old iBook with an "uptime" of over 160 days (that's almost 6 months with no shutdown or restart!!!). Also no crashes, no problems.
The 24" iMac is simply... stunning. And, with the 2.8 Gig Core2Duo Extreme, it should really rock speed-wise. But, it would remain in one place. The benefits of the iMacs are (obviously) the larger displays, larger hard drive capacities, and sometimes better performance (as in the case of the 24" w/ Core2Duo Extreme).
On the other hand, there's a lot to be said about being portable. "Going portable" is potentially a complete paradigm shift, as far as how one works. My Macbook Pro goes with me almost all of the time, and I can use it for work or play at a moment's notice. I have a really nice dual-display setup at home, which has (sadly) never been used since I moved to a portable; I simply can't be bothered being tied to a single location to use a computer anymore.
In the end, the decision is yours. Either way, you'll be happy.

Do a factory reset .. nothing will be deleted from your backups and you will be able to get access to them again.
The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

Yes you can watch it offline after you start it though the timer for the rental will start so if you dont finish it with in the time window of the rental you will have to re rent it.

Can't use 7.6, can't downgrade, need help, please ASAP

I have tried to use 7.6; it opens the iTunes, window then just sits and spins. When I force quit, everything freezes and I must unplug to restart. I have reinstalled, to no avail.
I've tried to download an older version from oldapps.com and get as far as where to install the software; then it says there are 0 bytes to install. The next window gives me a list of files but they are disabled, so I can go no further.
I am afraid to lose my entire library; I figured I could save/copy it somehow, uninstall iTunes and start over, but I don't know how to do any of this, or if any of this will solve the problem. I'd take just about any older version of iTunes at this point, as long as I can import and burn CD's and sync up my iPod; I am going out of town in a week and I need my music!

in your Music/iTunes folder you will find two files (iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library). you should spare a copy of these files since they are containing your playlist, rating, etc. and you should be safe. still, it is a good practice to also have a backup of all your songs files which are in your iTunes Music folder just in case something happen.
I'm not familiar with dowgrading since I do not beleive in this option more than trying to solve what is happening with the current version unless very special circumstances.
could you be a little more specific first about the OS version you are running and your hardware to verify if you meet the minimum requirements for iTunes 7.6? you need at least 10.3.9, G3 500MHz, 256Mg of RAM.

IPhone badly messed up can't text need help

My iPhone said storage was low still does even if its not. I delete texts and the come back I can't send any texts the will delete themselves or won't even highlight. The send button very thing else on my phone works tho I need help

I recommend steps 1, 3, and 5 of our iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant, found here http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/. If you get to step 3, I suggest closing ALL the apps.
Here is step 1 to get you started:
Restart iPhone
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.

Another "can't connect" need help thread!

Got a new iMac, and I can't get iChat to work to a friend who also has an iMac. He can connect to others just fine, so it must be my end.
I verified the Firewall is turned off.

Your question is not completely clear, but I'm going to guess that while installing Windows on your Mac, you formatted the entire hard drive as NTFS. If this is what happened, there are 2 things you can try. If you have any information you do not want deleted from Windows, such as documents you created, back them up ASAP before you do any of these steps, as it's going to erase your hard drive (that is the only way to fix it), and you will have to reinstall Mac OS and Windows, and then restore your data, hopefully you had a back up.
Option 1 is follow the steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2176.
Option 2 may or may not work, but you can try booting from the windows install disk, run the windows installer and reformat the entire hard drive as FAT instead of NTFS.

I would recommend a desktop for gaming over a laptop because you'll have the ability to upgrade the video card down the road (all of these PC's have a PCI Express slot available) and more importantly, better heat dissipation (plus you can usually add additional case fans if necessary). Plus, the cost is half that of a laptop. But if you need it to be portable, then you'll have to look at the laptops, and if you do that, consider a laptop chiller to keep it cool.
Also, look at the AMD processor systems. Most systems in the lower price range incorporate onboard graphic solutions. Most games want either an ATI or Nvidia solution for 3D graphics, pixel shading, etc. The Intel Graphics Solution won't run those games at all. Also, I would avoid any mini-case desktop PCs (slimlines), because they tend to run hotter inside, some graphic cards will not fit inside them, and some have non-standard size components (such as the motherboard, power supply, etc.
IMHO - I would spend what is necessary to run the games you want at a comfortable margin and save the extra money for down the road upgrades or a replacement system when you encounter a game you really want to play that won't run on your system.

Need help deciding between iMac or Display

I'm hoping some of you mac pros can help me with some advice. A few months ago I made the switch and bought a macbook and realised how great it was for photography, but am now wishing I had a larger screen. I can't decide if I should keep the macbook and get a display to hook it up to, or sell the macbook and buy a new imac. If anyone with either of these could help me out with some pros and cons I would be most grateful !!!

If you bought the Macbook for portability then buy a screen, if possible go to a dealer and take you Macbook to try some out.
You probably will need at least a 20" so consider if you have permanent space for presumably an iMac (the keyboard will store under the screen on the stand) or the screen.
It comes down to what other things you want to do with the machine, for instance if you want take it to show friends or family photos you have, then maybe keep the Macbook and have the benefit of the big screen for editing etc.
Remember that although Macs hold their value you will still lose some money possibly.

First design and implement a class called PairOfDice, composed of two six-sided Die objects. Using the PairOfDice class, design and implement a class to play a game called Pig. In this game, the user competes against the computer. On each turn, the current player rolls a pair of dice and accumulates points. The goal is to reach 100 points before your opponent does. If, on any turn, the player rolls a 1, all points accumulated for that round are forfeited and control of the dice moves to the other player. If the player rolls two 1s in one turn, the player loses all points accumulated thus far in the game and loses control of the dice. The player may voluntarily turn over the dice after each roll. Therefore the player must decide to either roll again (be a pig) and risk losing points, or relinquish control of the dice, possibly allowing the other player to win. Implement the computer player such that it always relinquishes the dice after accumulating 20 or more points in any given round.
I realize this is a long code, so it would be greatly appreciated to anyone who writes this one for me, or can at least give me any parts of it. I honestly have no clue how to do this because our professor is a dumbass and just expects us to know how to do this...he doesn't teach us this stuff...don't ask. If you are genuine, the program is very easy to write, so, your Professor is correct when he said you should
be able to do it. I'm still very much in the beginner category at java, and it took me only 20 mins to write
(+5 mins to design it on paper). 2 classes in one file < 100 lines. Most of the regulars here would do it in half the time / half the lines.
All of the clues are in the description, break them down into their various if / else conditions. Write it down on paper.
Have a go. Try to achieve something. Post what you've tried, no-one will laugh at you, and you will be
pleasanty surprised at the level of help you will get when you've "obviously" made some effort.
Again, have a go. If you don't like problem-solving, then you don't like programming. So, you gotta ask

Your iBookG4 is still a pretty awesome Mac. Like already said, it has the power to run Leopard, but it depends if you have an internal DVD drive.
Then I suppose you have to add up the cost of the OS, perhaps another 512MB RAM, iLife 08 and replacements for any favourite apps that you currently use (Leopard breaks a lot of stuff, but Intel breaks even more). Compare it to the cost of a new MacBook, which wil have all of that included and be 3-4x faster too.
It also depends on what you want to achieve with your iBook. My PMG4 still cuts it today, I still use it in preference to my new Mac Pro, It's about the same age as your iBook, and I'll only stop using it when it becomes "painfully" slow. My 1 year old son currently uses the Mac Pro (parts for a Mac Pro are easier to replace than those for a PMG4).
I think your choice is simple, if you can a cheap copy of Tiger, use that, it'll get your iPod Touch up and running. It came in DVD and 4 CD version (by request).
Leopard will work for you too but a lot of the best eye-candy requires quite a meaty graphics card and you may need a RAM upgrade and replacement software - OS9 Classic is not supported in Leopard.
