Can't delete a smart playlist from iPod - why?

Hi all
I have an 80GB 5th gen ipod and want to delete a playlist from it - even if I uncheck the box it is still there - empty! It has a warning sign next to it on iTunes and it tells me it cannot delete it because it is dependent upon another smart playlist which no longer exists.
It is not a problem - I just want it to go away.
Can anyone help pls?
Custombuilt; XP SP2; 1.2ghz athlon; 512mb RAM;   Windows XP

I have the same Problem, i have repeatedly wiped and restored my ipod but still can't get them to go away. the only thing i can think of it to go to playlists and only update certan playlists. anyone got any better ideas?

  • Can't move non-Smart Playlists from PC to Mac

    I'm a switcher who's having iTunes issues.  Here's what I've got:
    Old Windows PC:
Music Files located at: M: (the drive letter that I had dedicated to all my music) -- I guess that in the XML file(s) would be:  file://localhost/M:
iTunes Library Files (.itl and .xml) located at:  M:/iTunes
    New iMac:
Music Files located at: Users/username/Music  -- XML version would be:  file://localhost/Users/username/Music
iTunes Library Files (.itl and .xml) located at:  Users/username/Music/iTunes
In both my old and new iTunes folders, I have both the iTunes Library.xml and iTunes Music Library.xml files (Why, I don't know).  I followed this LifeHacker guide to changing the XML files to correct the paths to the new folders and files (i.e., converting the XML files from Windows to Mac format).  In my case, I did Find & Replace in both the XML files to change the file locations from file://localhost/M:/Artist Folder (old path from PC) to file://localhost/Users/username/Music/Artist Folder (new path on Mac).
After doing all of this, I then copied my tweaked XML files into the iTunes folder (where they belong), thus replacing the iTunes-generated versions.  I then dragged my whole Music folder (on the Mac) into the iTunes library so that it could add all the files.  All my Smart Playlists transferred just fine, as expected.  I can not figure out how to make my non-Smart Playlists transfer.  I've tried multiple variations of the XML Find & Replace to see what might work.  I've also tried just importing the tweaked files.  Nothing is working.
Could it be because on my PC, I had the iTunes (library files) folder sitting in my music drive, rather than have the Music in the iTunes/iTunes Media folder?  If that's the case, is there an extra change I needed to make in the XML to note that my Library.xml files were sitting on an atypical folder level relative to the actual MP3s?
I've read other directions that involve using the "Consolidate" and "Keep Organized" features, but I really don't want to do that.  I don't like the way that iTunes makes a separate folder for every artist who happens to be on one of my many compilations.  I'd rather not have the "Just let iTunes organize everything" debate if there's a way to fix my problem without doing that.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes deleted songs/videos/playlists from iPod touch and won't sync them onto iPod, but songs can still be played on iTunes however I just can't transfer them back onto my iPod. HELP!

Hey, so I'm wondering if any of you can help me with this issue, I'd be unbelievably grateful for any help, I can't resolve it and I dislike my long commute without my iPod to listen to! Thanks in advance
HOW IT HAPPENED: I had my iPod touch (32GB, 3rd generation) plugged into a speaker charging whilst playing music, and simultaneously I had iTunes (latest version for windows) open on my laptop (Dell - Windows). My iPod started to sync wirelessly with iTunes on my laptop and my music suddenly cut off.
WHAT HAPPENED: Once the sync had finished, all (almost 4000) songs (and videos) had been wiped off my iPod (including any playlists) with the exception of less than thirty songs, all of which I'd noticed were songs I'd purchased on the iTunes store, a seemingly random selection though - some from a couple of months ago, some from a couple of years ago.
I closed down everything on my laptop and restarted both laptop, iTunes and iPod then plugged my iPod in to sync. My iTunes library on my laptop is fully intact, complete with playlists, and I'm able to play songs normally from there, however despite numerous attempts, they just won't sync onto my iPod. Interestingly, no apps were deleted from my iPod. There's plenty of room on my iPod now, and even when everything on my iTunes library is synced onto it, there's still around 3GB space, so it can't be an issue to do with lack of space. I have no idea why it's happened, and the settings are for everything on iTunes to be synced to my iPod (I checked again) so it's not an issue with selective items to sync only either.
A huge thank-you to anyone who can help me!

I have the same problem!! only thing is that i have the ipod touch 5th generation and a mac. I've been trying to find a way to get all my music to play cuz it will only play on itunes but when i try to play it on my ipod it'll just show a circle with a red square in the middle next to the songs i cant play.

I don't know what's up with the translation window thing appearing.  Anyway...
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • Can't delete old calendar dates from IPOD

I had two calenders in my microsoft outlook and then i deleted one, and now all the info that was synched to my ipod wont go away. I guessed if it could't find the info that that it would delete it.
Does anyone know how to remove this info cause that dates and events are all meaningless to me know.

I have the same problem. I sync with MS Exchange Server over the air and not through iTunes. But on my iPhone I have 2 calendars, one with a "red" dot and another with an "orange" dot. The orange calendar has no events, but I can't figure out how to delete it.

  • Can't sync playlists from ipod touch to new computer

Can't Sync Playlists from iPod Touch to New Library
I just upgraded from an old Pentium computer to a new Dell XPS 18 running Windows 8.1.  Downloaded latest version of iTunes to the new computer, then successfully transferred library content from the old computer to the new one via the external hard drive method.  All material -- iTunes purchases, music ripped from CDs, a movie, even MP3 files purchased long ago from another source -- transferred successfully; everything plays on the new computer just fine.
My problem is that the "old" playlists didn't transfer over.  After connecting my iPod Touch to the new computer, I verified that the iPod has the latest version of iOS, and its content (including the old/original playlists) displays in the window on the left-hand side of the iTunes screen.  The really frustrating thing is that I can find no way to transfer the old playlists to my new iTunes library.  I've tried dragging and dropping, selecting and pasting, and exploration of all the options menus, but no luck.  Creating a new playlist in the new library and then clicking on the "Add To" button opens up a window into which to drop dragged songs/folders from the new library listing, but simultaneously closes the left-hand display window with all of my iPod's current playlists depicted.
I appear successfully to have backed up my iPod to the new computer, but all the sync menu options are grayed out.  When I tried clicking on the Sync button, I got a warning that syncing to the new library would erase everything from the old library -- presumably obliterating my playlists with it.  I have about a dozen different playlists, some of them with several hundred songs, drawn from a library of a few thousand individual items.  Is there some means of importing/transferring the old playlists to the new computer/library, so that I don't manually have to drag and drop hundreds and hundreds of songs into a new set of playlists?  Am I overlooking something really obvious or simple?  Can I safely turn on Home Sharing and then import or paste the old playlists into the new computer's library.  I don't think I'm too much of a Luddite, but given the size of my library I'm very leery of turning on Home Sharing (to the old Pentium computer) after I've successfully transferred over many GBs of content from the old machine to the new.
    Thanks very much --

  • HT1296 I can't sync the whole playlist from my computer to my iPod touch. Songs which don't sync have a dotted circle in front of the title?

I can't sync the complete playlist from my PC to my iPos touch. Songs which don't transfer have a dotted grey circle in front of the title?

Hey, I had the exact same problem with my transferring a new album my friend bought on my Mac, to my iphone... It took me two days to figure it out, but it could be either of 2 things:
    1. You don't have the "manually manage music and videos" box checked. If you check it, then try to click and drag it over to your music on your device, it should then sync (on iTunes 11) This was my problem, and I checked that box, and it transferred and downloaded instantly
    2. You don't have enough memory space on your device to put the playlist on. This was the problem for a lot of other people, not me, but they said it worked once they cleared some space on their device.
    Hopes this helps!

  • Tip for creating auto-updating Smart Playlists for iPod

    Short Answer:
Don't use Smart Playlists that use rules with nested playlists which aren't completely on iPod.
    Long Answer:
If you're like me and use nested Smart Playlists, make sure that any Smart Playlist you want to have auto-update on the iPod doesn't use a rule which uses as a criteria a playlist that isn't fully present on iPod (exclamation point next to the Smart Playlist in iTunes when connecting iPod to your Mac).
For example, I have Smart Playlists to exclude certain tracks in other Smart Playlists (Streams, Spoken Word, tracks under 1 minute, etc.). These are tracks that I usually want to exclude in other Smart Playlists but don't want to add those rules each and every time.
The problem is that iPod looks to see if that 'excludes' playlist is present, which obviously it isn't because by it's nature it's designed to exclude tracks. If a nested playlist isn't present it seems the auto-update will not work.
My solution was to create a new Smart Playlist specifically for the iPod, which contained all the rules of my "master exclude" Smart Playlist and any other I wanted specifically for the iPod.
My beef with Apple here is that I can't duplicate a Smart Playlist, which is possible in iPhoto. Being able to do that would make things much easier.
I have since gone about creating 'excludes' playlists so that the playlist itself excludes tracks; previously I was creating a Smart PLaylist that contained (included) all the tracks I wanted to exclude, then using that as a rule (Playlist is not 'Excludes') in other playlists. The second method worked fine on iTunes, since all the tracks are present, but it creates problems on iPod.

I've posted a better version of this thread in the "Using the iPod with color display" forum.
APPLE DISCUSSION ADMINS: Please delete this thread. Thanks!

  • I can not add the smart lists to ipod

I can not add the smart lists to ipod, itunes If (when clicking the lists are empty) but notas add to the ipod touch are not added automatically.

Experiencing exactly the same error. The error only occurs on the clustered gateway. Non-clustered gateways work fine. I followed Kristian's whitepaper exactly except that I didn't use a service template to create the gateway cluster. All NICs are connected
to the proper switches. There are no relevant events/errors on the hosts or the gateway cluster nodes.
    Troubleshooting steps taken so far...
    1. reboot everything
    2. deleted the network service from VMM and re-added
    3. Verified that HNV is working on the host cluster by disabling "host dedicated to gateway" and moving an NVGRE VM to the cluster.
    4. Verified all other networks are working properly on the host cluster.
    5. Deleted and re-added all NICs in the gateway cluster.
    6. Verified that the gateway can be configured using Powershell on the host and remote.
Now I'm going to create another clustered gateway and another non-clustered gateway to reproduce the problem.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

how can I delete a photo folder from my iphone 4s?

    Hey Ravengirlaa,
Great question! The answer is going to depend on how the photos were originally organized:
    A) The albums were synced to your iPhone from iTunes
    B) The albums were manually created on your iPhone from photos in the Camera Roll
The following excerpt would apply for situation B:
excerpt from page 71 of the iPhone User Guide - http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf

  • How can I create a smart playlist of least played complete albums?

    Hi,
How can I create a smart playlist of least played complete albums? (of a specific genre, say jazz)
What I would like to do is to have a playlist that will always automatically pull the least played albums of a specific genre (ideally, but not necessarily, with a random album play within that playlist) Hope you are getting the concept!
    Thank you for any idea!
    Daniel
p.s. there have been solutions for earlier versions of iTunes, none working with iTunes 10 apparently

As you say, you can't access the Gapless property in a smart playlist rule.
The obvious way that comes to mind would be to create another playlist with stuff to exclude from your final list and put the gapless tracks and anything else that won't filter out easily into it.
Yes you say but I have oodles of gapless tracks and I don't want to gather them up by hand.
OK, so you'll need a script. Here is one I've just created for the purpose: GaplessToPlaylist
