Can't delete calendars

I assumed mobileme would let me sync only some calendars, but that's not the case. So, what I need to do now is to publish. Meanwhile, I'd like to get some of my calendars off of mobileme, but I can't figure out how to do that. So, I thought I'd just backup my calendars, delete them, and sync the emptiness.
But I can't delete them, they mysteriously reappear. I turned off all syncing of calendars in mobileme and iphone. I removed home>library>calendars and home>app support>ical.
It takes about 5-10 seconds, and all the calendars I've ever deleted return. Spooky.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I note that you have turned-off syncing, so it's likely that you have a problem with sync services and this is what is recreating your calendars.
Before you delete the iCal folder from Application Support again, try following these instructions to reset sync services: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306484
After that, quit iCal and check that syncing has not been re-enabled by the previous process (by looking in the dotmac preference pane).
Once you are sure all looks OK, then try deleting the iCal folder again. If it has worked, you should end-up with just the default Home and Work calendars when you start iCal next.

  • Can't delete Calendar Group or Revert it to a plain calendar

I am trying to start using iCal in an office setting where we will be synchronizing across a few different computers. Having played a bit with fake data and made a few sample groups/subcalendars I'm now trying to go back to a clean slate so we can start in earnest. But having deleted most of the false calendars I am left with one "calendar group", with a single subcalendar. I do not want any calendar groups--just single calendars, but any new calendars I add automatically become subcalendars instead of being on equal footing with the "group" calendar. Is there any way to delete the group and just end up with a simple list of individual calendars? Thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion, John. I was hopeful that would work, but it didn't. I can't get the new calendar out of the group, no matter how far or in which direction I drag it, and therefore I can't delete the group. I could delete either of the subcalendars (but only one--it insists on the group having a minimum of one subcalendars--understandable, I guess).
Any other ideas? Do I need to somehow uninstall and reinstall iCal and start over? (I used to use Windows so I got used to uninstalling and reinstalling software....)

  • Can't delete calendars or events from iCal

I'm trying to delete Calendars from iCal, but after I delete them, they reappear. I've tried deleting the calendars and calendar cache from the user library, but to no avail. In addition, when I try to change or delete an event, it ends up duplicating the event so that there is multiple copies of the same event on the same day. I've tried to find someone else who has had this problem, but came up empty. Any suggestions? Can I get rid of iCal and reinstall it somehow?
P.S. there are multiple users on this computer, but only one of them uses iCal.

    Good question.
You do not have to remove the entire directory. However, there are other caches besides the com.apple.ical directory that may be present that can impact iCal's performance. These directories are often created by non-Apple programs involved in syncing (Entourage, Pocket Mac, Blackberry software, Palm Desktop software, etc.)
The question is, which caches might be there for each unique computer setup and are they doing something to iCal? That takes a great deal of work which few people are willing to do (not to mention you have to know which folders are the culprits)
Cache files are re-generated once the program that uses them is launched. I have never personally encountered a program that stored any vital data in the cache. Caches are (in general) used to improve program performance of an application during use, not to store data.
For users that are concerned about their caches, removing ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal/ is certainly an acceptable alternative (if not all encompassing).

  • Can't delete calendar default reminder

I am having trouble with the google calendar since upgrading to lollipop. In settings I can change the default reminder to none, but every time I put a new entry in there's always a reminder time that I can't delete. I don't need a reminder for all my entries...

This happens only with Google Calenar and not the default Xperia Calendar?

  • I can't delete calendars from iCal, they re-appear in a few moments. Also I can't add new entries. I have a backup on another  Mac which is working properly.

For the last 2 weeks iCal has not let me update or delete calendars. It continues to remind me about events in the past (about 10 days ago).
Also, Safari is not recording history, apart from today the last entry is 2 weeks ago.
Time and date is working OK.
    All software is up-to-date.

My problem is fixed now, thank you. It was caused by my changing the Boot Camp partition's 'RAID1' to 'RAID0'. If I hadn't done that, Boot Camp would still have been able to 'restore' back to the one partition. It was fixed with the help of Applecare by using a terminal and typing a command to erase the IP of the Macintosh disk (not the volume) as well as the IP of the Bootcamp partition (if I remember correctly), but then I had to restore the OS and all my applications and data etc which I had previously backed up using Time Machine. I haven't taken note of the exact command terminology used. It would be wise to speak to Applecare about this if possible.
Two words of warning, 1. According to the cause of this problem, it might be wise, after reinstalling the ops system to reinstall all extra applications one by one, manually, in case a similar problem arises again. Then manually copy back all data. Or the Mac user could use the Time Machine backup and then uninstall all the added apps then re-install them one by one manually. 2. Beware as after all this the user might not have the 'Recovery partition'. There is a small recovery partition (a few 100 Mb is size) which comes with all later Macs. After all this is done this tiny partition might not be there anymore and the user might have to re-install Mavericks again to get it back, or just install the upcoming update of Mavericks due in a month or so.

  • Can't delete calendar in ical

I have a lion server running with ical (among other services). Migrating to lion got me the remeinders in the calendar directly and the reminders lists were the same as my calendars. That does make sense for some categories like Home or Work but I have a few more calendars e.g. for public holidays that are not really suitable for reminders.
Strange enough those seem to be containers for both reminders and events but when I delete one of them and recreate it for either of them it is limited to that application. So now I want to delete my public holidays calendar (and reminder list) and recreate it as calendar. Deleting some of the others worked but for this one I always get the error 403: CalDAVRemoveCalendarQueueableOperation. Also tried to log on to my web calendar and delete the list. It just hang.
    Any ideas why that happens?

The entries you are now seeing are held in a special Birthdays calendar that has been implemented in iOS4.
The Calendar gets its information from your Contacts on the iPhone.
It can be switched off by deselecting it in the Calendars page (top left button in the Calendars app)
The Mac also has a similar Birthdays Calendar that gets its info from the Apple Address Book and can be switched on/off as required (Find it under "Subscriptions" in the left hand pane of iCal, or in Preferences, General, Show Birthday Calendar)

  • Can't delete calendar entry

I have some recurring entries in my calendar that won't delete.  When I try to delete them, they just remain in my calendar on my 8830, although when I sync with Outlook they won't go there.  When I try to open the entry to edit them, I get an error message that says "Appointment deleted externally.  changes will be lost and the viewer closed".
So I can't edit them either.
Can someone please help me? I've tried doing a reboot, but that hasn't worked, and I have seen nothing like this on the support boards.
    Thanks!

    Bump.
I am experiencing the same thing on my 8830 and it is frustrating. I am synching with Outlook via my company's enterprise server and I have marked all of these calendar entries as private so they are not appearing in Outlook. They can't be deleted. I have not yet tried to create/delete a public calendar entry.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have some old calendars in iCal that I have no use for any longer. When I select them and right-click to "delete" they go away.

    Anyone have ideas?

  • Deleted calendar on AppleID account - can I get it back?

    Hi,
I accidentally deleted my calendar from my iPhone 4S. This calendar was on my AppleID account. It was not synced to iCloud. I don't have the backup to restore from, because as soon as I plugged in my iPhone to do the restore, it created a new backup that over-wrote the old one (why does it do this?!).
Is there any way I can access this calendar? Can I get to it somehow by logging into my Apple ID on a computer? Surely the data is in some kind of deleted but recoverable form on my iPhone? I have seen there is a 3rd party software app called Mr. Fone by Wondershare that might do it, but it costs about £40.
Please help, I am lost without my calendar
    Louise

No.  If it wan't backed up or synced with iCloud or a calendar on your computer, it's gone.

You can't do it on the phone, but you can in iTunes. When your phone is connected to iTunes, click on the info tab. Under calendars, check only the calendars you want to sync to the phone.
No wonder I was having this mulitple calendars problem ~ I'd had opted to sync "All calendars". But once I checked individual calendars in "Selected Calendars" and sync'd that to my phone the 'multiples' went away!

I can't delete events recurring annually...not part of birthday calendar, these are events I've added manually.  I've tried delete key, cut event, changing to no recurrence, they just revert to original recurrence and will not be removed from my calendar.  Events that occur weekly I'm able to delete, this is only happening with events recurring annually.  Very frustrating.  Thanks for any ideas.

If you are using a PC, log on to iCloud using Safari (rather than Explorer) to reset the photostream. Then turn iPhone/iPad photostream off and back on. I was getting the same server error as you and this advice from another blog worked for my iPhone and iPad.  But I still can't get photostream deleted from my apple tv. There does not seem to be a photostream on/off control In Apple tv 4.4 software.  I tried switching the screen saver to one of the ones that comes preloaded on the device, then back to photostream but all the old photos are still there.  If anyone can help with this, I would appreciate it.

  • How can i delete shared gmail calendars on my Mac's calendar?

    Hello,
My company's email, calendar, etc is set up with the Google Apps. I created a Gmail account in my Mac (Running Yosemite) so I could sync the Calendar.
In the Gmail calendar, you can view calendars from teammates additional to your own to make life easier when setting up meetings, etc. Every time I add a teammate's calendar in Gmail, that new calendar is also synced in my Mac. Initially it was pretty cool, but what has happened now is that even though I delete the additional calendars in Gmail, these deletions are not replicated to my Mac, so I'm having to handle about 10 calendars and every time these other people receive invitations I have them on my Mac. The most I can do is "unselect" them in my Mac calendar but eventually somehow they get activated or "selected" again. Below a picture of what I see in my Mac.
How can I delete these calendars on my Mac?
Thanks in advanced for the help!

    Welcome to the Apple communities.
I'm not all that sure that I fully understand your question. However if you are trying to delete the groups on the left-hand side of your address book, then simply click on them once to highlight them and use the delete key on your keyboard to delete them.
Any contacts within those groups will stay in your main account and will not be deleted along with the group heading.

  • Calendar App showing a new blank calendar that I can't delete or rename.

So suddenly my iPod has two separate calendars in the Calendar app, one identified with a red dot, the other with an orange dot, and I can neither delete nor rename this new second calendar. Both are named 'Calendar,' and I have the option to view either one or 'All.' The new one is blank; there are no events. I can see where having multiple calendars would be useful - for example, family stuff and work stuff could be on separate calendars - but not as much if I can't add, delete or rename these separate calendars.
I think this second blank calendar appeared today, after I added the Google App to my iPod, and also after I tried syncing my iPod calendar to Outlook (with no success, it seems - Outlook's calendar is blank).
Sorry if this is a stupid question - I've been looking online, and gone through the manual and all the settings - I can't find the solution.
    Thanks!
    Candace

    Wayne,
Quit iCal, open Address Book, and click on your card. Then select Address Book>Card>Make this My Card.
If that does not fix the problem, then delete and recreate your card, and once again make sure to designate it with "Make this My Card.
