Can't delete ical account

I tried unsuccessfully to find a solution to this issue on the web but the only thing that seemed to keep popping up was issues with Mobile Me and synching.
My problem was with a 10.6.8 client trying to connect to a 10.6.8 iCal server. Tried creating the account like I've done hundreds of times before and the account would not take the user's password. That is I would get an iCal error message when opening iCal that the username or password was incorrect. Looking at iCal preferences there was, indeed, no password entered. If I entered the user's password it would simply disappear when I went to another pane in the Preferences window - then throw the same error message. The account pane also listed duplicate iCal accounts - both of which, as stated below, we tried to delete.
Creating a new user account and then creating the iCal account worked just fine. So clearly there was corruption in the original account. I suspected there was a problem with the Keychain, but deleting the keychain and recreating it didn't work, repairing the keychain didn't work. Even trying to delete the iCal account would not work because no sooner was the account deleted in iCal preferences but it reappeared (like magic).
We tried deleting preference files, cache files, almost any file we could find with "ical" in it - all to no avail. The problem persisted like a bad cold.
The only solution I found was to completely delete the user account and create a new one - log her onto the network - then turn her account into a Mobile account (so she could log in to the laptop at home) - and recreate her Mail and iCal accounts. Fortunately she didn't have any user files as she is a new teacher, but even if she did, I would have copied those files off to an external drive and moved them back to the new account. I'd also propagate permissions on those files so that there would be no problems with her accessing them in the new account.
Of course she'd lose any preferences she had set up, but I've done this type of thing before and losing preferences is a small price to pay for having things run correctly in the first place.
As far as the original problem was concerned, I suspect some sort of corruption when she initially logged onto the network to change her password. I still don't have a good method of doing that for new users...a work in progress.
Hope this helps someone if they have a similar issue. Maybe some of you gurus out there have a solution to this issue, but I don't think so. Between Tech Support and Google we tried about every option available.

Try an iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so.
After your iPhone has restarted, try turning Calendars off for over the air syncing with your MM account on your iPhone followed by turning Calendars back on.

Both accounts are completely independent from each other. In order to use the space that you have purchased for your secondary account, you must change it to become your primary account. Yes, as you said, services like photo stream only work with the primary account. Unfortunately, there is no comfortable way to just transfer data from one account to another one, but you can do it via a third party application e.g. via Dropbox: e.g. for photos: photos stored with your current primary account > manual transfer to dropbox > after you made your secondary account to the primary account,  transfer the photos back to your new primary account etc.

When I set up my iPhone, I accidentally put in an apple ID that doesn't exist. Therefor, I don't know the password and can't delete my account from iCloud. I was trying to sync my contacts to my iPad and now it's not possible without iCloud on my phone. Can anybody help?

Have you tried changing the admin password in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Password   ??
The Apple ID that is associated with your admin password is noted there.

  • Can't delete admin account even as Root

We're experimenting with integrating our Mac users into Active Directory. I've read that you should delete the user account in Sys Prefs first and leave the home folder.
The problem we're having is that I can't delete the users account in system prefs even if I log in as the root user. I get a generic error after about 10 minutes of looking like it is working that says the account could not be deleted.
My guess is it has something to do with the fact that I had already logged into the same acount with an Active Directory login and the permissions have been changed on certain files and now it can't complete archiving the home folder because of some rights issue.
I have unbound the computer from the AD forest and ran disk permissions to no avail. I'd like to keep the existing home folder to use with the network login if possible so I haven't tried the quick delete option.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

You can't delete an account if it is logged in, or if it is the only admin account on the system. So make sure that there is at least one other admin account, and that the account you want to delete os logged out.

  • Help: Can't delete email account in OSX Mail

I have verizon.net email account that I had to update because verizon changed the incoming and outgoing servers.
Each of my family members has a separate profile on my Mac and I was able to successfully update their settings.
I have the admin account. No matter what I do, I can't get the new server settings to stick in MacOSX Mail.
So I tried to delete the email account via System Preferences. When I relaunch Mail or System Preferences, the account is stil there. When I try to delete the account from within Mail, I get an error message:
Account removal failed with error: “The operation couldn’t be completed. Unable to find an account for the UID given.”.
You can try deleting the account from the “Internet Accounts“ preference pane in System Preferences.
I even tried the steps in this thread using Terminal:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23824890#23824890
I even tried deleting the account in my Library preferences.
    No luck.
I had this problem on my 17" MacBook Pro. I just migrated to a Retina MacBook Pro using a Time Machine backup. Same exact problem. I'm thinking there's some bizarro preference thingy that is buried somewhere that needs to be removed.
Yes, I ran disk utility as well.
    Help me please!

After closing mail I used a plist editor and edited:
    /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist
    (as always TAKE A BACKUP)
I removed all key pairs to the offending account.
    Voila.
    Removed.

  • How can I delete facebook account in settings when I don't have password  and can't retreive it  pressing delet without entering password does nothing

How can I delete facebook account in settings when I don't have password and can't reset it as not receiving reset email from facebook pressing delete without password does nothing.

Go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address (you shouldn't need to verify the old account).  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How can i delete admin accounts

how can i delete admin accounts on imac running lion

Apple says that admin accounts should be only used for tasks that require them, and not for any other reason. Apple even goes so far as to say to never browse the web or check email while logged in to an admin account.
The reason is for security. When logged in to an admin account, everything you do, every program and process you run, runs with elevated admin privileges. Running with higher privileges than is necessary can be a security risk. There is no reason for your web browser, for example, to be running all the time with admin rights.
If you're currently running as admin it's easy to switch. Make a new admin account, and change your previous account from admin to standard. You can then continue using your old account as you always have.
You'll find that you rarely if ever need to actually log in to the admin account. Nearly all admin and even root tasks, like installing software, can be done from any non-admin account, by entering the admin username/password when prompted.

  • How can I delete an account, BUT only after having saved data

I need to delete my account from the iPhone BUT not before having saved the current data. How?
My Calendar, Contacts, Bookmarks sync is not working. As a solution, I was told to delete account from the iPhone, reset the iPhone, create my MobileMe account again on the iPhone and select Calendar, Contacts and Bookmarks to be synced using MobileMe.
Fine, but I get a warning that all the information that I currently have in Calendar, Contacts and Bookmarks on my iPhone will be lost!!!
That would be a problem, as I have entered a great number of new contacts on the iPhone, and I really don't want to lose them. Is there no way to MERGE without losing what's on the iPhone? Or can I save the Contacts and Calendar data somehow before I delete the account of the iPhone, so I can import them back later in a new account?
In a nutshell: I need to delete my account from the iPhone BUT not before having saved the current data. How?

If the sync process is not working between your iPhone and the MobileMe "cloud", is it working properly between the Address Book and iCal on your Mac with the MobileMe "cloud"?
With a MM account, you can sync contacts and calendar events over the air, or direct with the supported applications on your compute via the iTunes sync process. You can do one or the other, not both at the same time. In order to sync direct with the supported applications on your computer via the iTunes sync process, you must turn Contacts and Calendars off for over the air syncing on your iPhone, which will remove all contacts and calendar events from your iPhone.
I'm afraid you will need to manually enter the new contacts with the Address Book, the new calendar events with iCal on your Mac.
There is an outside chance. Contacts and calendar events are included with your iPhone's backup. You can sync with iTunes to update your iPhone's backup before deleting your MM account on your iPhone - I suggest turning Contacts and Calendars off on your iPhone before deleting the account.
Follow deleting your MM account from your iPhone by restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup. This should restore the contact and calendar events on your iPhone from your iPhone's backup. Follow this by syncing with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac.
There is a chance this won't work and if not, all contacts and calendar events on your iPhone will be lost in the process.

  • Can not delete icloud account

My icloud account is set up to my old email address, I have no way of accessing this email account. When I try to delete the icloud account on my phone it asks for a password, but password does not work and when I answer the security questions it says my birthday is invalid. I think this might be because it is an old apple id that probably no longer exists. It wont let me delete the account, turn off find my iphone or change it. Does anyone know what I can do to delete this icloud account and set it up wtih my new apple id?

I finally managed to get my iPhone 'unClouded' by disabling the individual options whist the phone was tethered to my MacBook.
In iTunes itself I then re-enabled the 'old-style' of syncing my address book & contacts to the iPhone, opting to replace the ocntent of the iPhone. (I was 100% sure my MacBook address was OK, and was my iCal in the Mac)
So in short here were the steps:
    1. On MacBook, disable all iCould except the 'Find my Mac'
    2. Tether iPhone to Mac.
    3. On iPhone disable all iCloud (except find my iPhone)
    4. In Itunes select the old-style options of what you like to sync with phone
This appeared to work for me.
Also as a plus, my battery life on the phone appears to be back at pre-IOS5. (Still at 100% after 2 hours, not back to the lower 90-ties)
