Can't Delete Java 2 Runtime Env 1.4.1_03

EXORCIST NEEDED!
I desperately need some help to preserve my sanity. I installed Netscape and Java and immediately started having problems with Netscape locking up my computer. After troubleshooting, I determined that it was Java that was screwing everything up. I went in and tried to uninstall it, and I can't. This thing is like a demon that I can't get rid of. I have done all of the following, but to no avail:
1.) Gone to Add/Remove Programs in Windows XP Pro: I have tried this over 20 times. The uninstall shield begins and just quits. It doesn't remove anything.
2.) Used a professional unistaller (Ashampoo): This wouldn't work because it just found the unistall shield mentioned above. So, back to square one.
3.) Found every file and registry entry related and delted them: Did this, but apparently there is something evil still on my machine. I tried to reinstall Java, hoping that I might then get a clean uninstall, but now it won't let me reinstall because it keeps telling me that I already have it. The installation bombs out.
Someone please help me. I have spent close to 16 hours trying to get this evil program off my computer. As a man, I hate to admit it, but I am in tears and tired of throwing things. Save me, someone, please!
Tad R

In such situations I found that some file system and registry monitoring helped to spot the problem, for example to spot the registry entry to remove etc.

  • Error Message 1316 while uninstalling Java 2 Runtime Env SE v1.4.2_03msi

    I recently updated to Java 10 while in the process of clearing some nasty virus/malware off my system. I worked with a tech guide to do the clean up. He told me to uninstall old updates, including Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03. In the process, I got this error message:
    Error 1316 - A network error occurred while attempting to read from file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03msi.
    then I clicked OK to continue and got a Fatal Error at the end and the uninstall was unsuccessful.
    The tech guide told me that "hackers can use script to infect you via these old versions." The virus/malware we caught was spyware and serious. I'm serious about getting clean... any advice please?

  • Java SE Runtime Env -vs- J2SE Runtime Env -vs- Java 6 update 11

    I'm brand new to Java, must have the Java Runtime Environment installed, but do not understand if some are newer versions of the same thing or separate programs entirely.
    I currently have installed:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    Java 6 Update 11
    Java 6 Update 5
    Java 6 Update 7
    Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
    Is there Java for programming and the JRE for running programs? What's the latest version of these things? What does SE stand for? What is J2SE?
    Where oh where can I get this sorted out online?
    Thanks very much!

    There might be some connection or transfer error during the J2 installion but it shouldn't require a reboot. I'm a N6.1 user with Win2k Pro. Try reinstall the n6.1 and download the JVM pack at netscape update center.

  • Where can I find Java SE 6 runtime ?

    After software update, I'm now running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    I launched Photoshop CS3 and it told me I need to install the legacy Java SE6 runtime and I can't find a link that works.
    Do I go to Adobe ?
    The More info button takes me to a link on the Apple site that does not work.
    Any info would be useful as I am really stupid due to Multiple Sclerosis and I have problems understanding things.

  • Can't get java runtime, and applets, running inside Firefox 11.

    I have gone to my Windows 7 control panel and enabled java for the mozilla family,
    which implies the web browser I use, Firefox 11 at the moment.
    I have gone to Firefox/Tools/Add-Ons/Plugins and have enabled the
    Java Deployment Kit 6.0.250.3
    However, when I go to the Oracle Java test page
    http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp
    It can't detect java working in my web browser.
    The install missing plugins button appears in the top right,
    and while it downloads java, it consistently fails here stating
    that I have the option to install manualy (which I have successfully done already).
    I have the java 6 download manager working, however I can't run applets embedded in the web browser.
    Please, how do I get my java working in firefox for my applets?

    Zachary1234 wrote:
    Yes, 32 bit java and a 32 bit web browser seem to be the only working answer for applets,
    even in windows 7 (and adherence to the firefox browser).No, its not. Its exactly as I said, not what you make of it. If you have a 64 bits firefox, install a 64 bits runtime.
    Let me put it differently: applets work just fine on my 64 bits Windows 7 under a 64 bits Firefox 11 with a 64 bits runtime.

  • Can I remove J2SE Run. Env. 5.0 up6 from my PC now that I have Java 6 up11?

    Hey guy's, I'm new to Java... I just have it because I know it helps run alot of stuff on PC's today... Anyway, my story is:
    I recently updated my LimeWire that I paid for to the new version and it would just freeze and never open up from it's begining stage. Anyway I researched on it and found that it was my Java Version (J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 6 ) which I don't know what any of that means... did not support the new LimeWire Version... So I down-loaded ( Java 6 update 11 ) and now my LimeWire works fine... Even though I lost all my files on LimeWire while updating, lucky for me I had a back-up...
    My question is:
    In my Add or Remove Programs list, I can see both in there: 1.) J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 6 which is 152.00 MB & 2.) Java 6 update 11 which is only 94.38 MB and it's the New one I down-loaded...
    CAN I REMOVE THE J2SE RUNTIME ENVIROMENT 5.0 UPDATE 6 OUT OF MY COMPUTER OR IS IT ATTACHED TO PROGRAMS OR STUFF THAT I'M NOT AWARE OF??? DO I NEED IT??? I HAVE THE NEW ONE ABOVE... WILL IT HARM ANYTHING???
    Thank you Guy's or/and ladies...
    Looking forward for the help...

    Java versions are independent of one another and can be installed and removed separately. Other Java versions won't be affected.
    What may be affected are Java applications (like Limewire) that require a certain Java version - yes, some applications are written so that they'll run only with a certan version of Java, most are not. Since we don't know what's installed in your computer, we obviously can't say whether removal of a given version will cause one of your programs to malfunction or stop working.

  • My accounts program won't run without legacy Java SE6 runtime since I upgraded to OS x Yosemite but I can't download it

    My "Solar" accounts program won't run without "legacy Java SE6 runtime" since I upgraded my iMac desktop to OS x Yosemite but I can't download it, nothing happens when you click on the link to apple support

    Okay, I'm not a Genius, but, I'm smarter than the one I spoke to at the Apple Store.They told me that they couldn't help me with Legacy Java SE6 Runtime. Adobe has the worst support in the industry so don't call them.
    If you have a Time Machine backup, go to one that pre dates your install of Yosemite. Go to the System/Library/Java and drag copy the folder to your internal hard disk. Now you will need the Administrator password. Once copied, drag the old Java folder into your System/Library folder and when asked to replace, click OK. Restart your Mac and you will have use of your software that requires Legacy Java SE6 Runtime.
    I'm totally done with Apple since they are trying to box me into a corner. Have fun kids.

  • How can i delete an java object immediately?

    Is there any mechanism that delete an object immediately?
    I know I can delete an java object by GC mechanism, but it can not be effective immediately.
    is there any other solutions?
    thanks -:)

    And you did an internet search to try and find out how to delete Java from your computer? Well, this forum is for Java programmers, people who write programs using the Java language. Not for people who use those programs. But it was a good try.
    The easiest thing for you to do is just to leave Java on your computer. It won't do any harm (aside from taking up a bit of space on your disk) and if you go to a web site that contains an applet, it might even be useful. Maybe that's why you got the link in the first place.
    If you really want to get rid of it, then go into Control Panel and use Add and Remove Programs to do that. (It's called something else in Vista, I forget what, hope you didn't get stuck with that.) But I would still suggest leaving it on your computer.

  • Java.lang.Runtime.exec problem in ubuntu 9.10

    Hi:
    I tried to run some command in the java code , for example "grass64 -text /home/data/location", this command works well in the terminal, however when I call it in the java code I got some excepetions.
    My code is :
    public class Grass {
         public static String grassBatJob="GRASS_BATCH_JOB";
         public void run(String cmd,String jobPath) {
              //set the environments variables

    The real cmd I want to execute is "grass64 -text /home/kk/grass/GrassDataBase/spearfish60/PERMANENT" with the envrionment variable "GRASS_BATCH_JOB=jobPath",it works well in the ternimal ,however in my application I got the exception"

    I wonder why?

    Thanks for all of your reply, and now I can run the command, however I met some problems when I tried to get the result of the exec.
    The core codes are shown below:
    String cmd="g.version";
    String[] exe={"bash","-c",cmd};
    Process p1=Runtime.getRuntime.exec(exe,env); // the env has been set
    GrassThread outThread=new GrassThread("out", p1.getInputStream());
    outThread.start();
    GrassThread errorThread=new GrassThread("error", p1.getErrorStream());
    errorThread.start();
    int exitVal = p1.waitFor();
    String resu=outThread.sb.toString();
    System.out.println("==========the output start========");
    System.out.println(resu);
    System.out.println("==========the output end========");
    System.out.println("ExitValue: " + exitVal); //------------------> line one
    public class GrassThread extends Thread{
         public StringBuffer sb=new StringBuffer();
         public GrassThread(String type,InputStream is) {
              this.type=type;
              this.is=is;
         public void run() {
              try {
                   InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(is);
                   BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
                   String line = null;
                   while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) {
                        System.out.println(type + ">" + line);
                        sb.append(line).append("\r");  // ----------------------------> line two
    }I define a StringBuffer in the GrassThread to save the output (see the code where I marked by "line two"), and when the process complete, I check the StringBuffer to get the output (see code where I marked by "line one"), however the output in the console of the IDE are :
    ----------- output in the console of the IDE start -------------
    ==========the output start========
    ==========the output end========
    ExitValue: 0
    out>GRASS 6.4.0RC5 (2009)
    ----------output in the console of the IDE end--------------------
    I can not understand, in the code "line one", I first get the output using "System.out.println(resu);",then I print the exitvalue,but why the order of the output in the console is not what I expected?
    Another question, the code above assume the output can be got from the Process's getInputStream, however sometimes the output maybe come from the Process's getErrorStream, so how to handle it?

  • Can I delete old updates

    I'm trying to clean up my computer. have J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 updates 10, 11, 4, and 6; Have Java (TM) 6 UPdate 2 and UPdate 3 and Java (TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 UPdate 1 all using very much memory...can I delete any of these?

    You can uninstall any version that you do not need without any impact on remaining versions. Note that you may have a "JRE" and a "JDK" with the same version. They are not duplicates, as the purpose of each is different.

  • Can I delete old versions of JRE?

    I am currently running JRE 6.1. Can I delete all the old versions? These are the ones currently installed on my computer:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    Java 2 Runtime Environment SE, v1.4.2_03
    and of course,
    Java (TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
    Thanks for the help with this.

    yes i have a question about this also. i have deleted and still see that it works with some websites. but each older version takes up about 90 MB size. the updates will not be left without deletion if there is no use for it. so, anybody has anything to say about this.

  • How can we avoid installing java3d runtime envoirnment on the client side

    Hi All, my applet uses java3d api. To see this applet in the browser on the client side we need to install java3d runtime envoirnment. Is it neccassary or can we avoid it. If we can avoid installing java3d runtime env , how can we do that.. Can Java WebStart help in this.
    your suggestion will be valuable..
    Thanks
    Akhil

    Yes, of course we can avoid it. Just as we can avoid asking the user to download the JRE if they want to run java.
    The only slight pay off we make for that is that the program won't run at all on their computer.
    As long as this is not an issue, there should be no problem.
    Seriously, my understanding is that Web-Start can hide the fact that we are installing Java 3D on their machine or at least make the installation very simple. There is no way to run Java3D applications without Java3D.
