Can't Delete Keywords.  How Delete Keywords?

I can't delete keywords easily.    How can I delete keywords easily?
I found instructions that said to select the keyword.    But I have no way to select the keyword.   At least I haven't found the way.     In the Library, where the keywords are, I found no way to select them.   Clicking on them does no good.
I found I could uncheck keywords from the Keyword List, but that requires a lot of scrolling.    There must be a faster way.

Glad you got it sorted out. (I didn't mean to get into a controversy; sometimes there's just a bit of to-and-fro before the particular problem is identified)
The item "containing keywords" AFAIK relates to the ability to nest keywords inside each other. For example, say I have the keyword "France" and the keyword "Paris". Now I put just the keyword Paris onto an image, and then in the keyword list, drag Paris inside France so that it indents as a sub-keyword. This now means that when I search for images using the term "France", this image will start showing up - even though it does not explicitly have the keyword France - since it qualifies indirectly through its keyword Paris (which counts as being "a France keyword", due to being nested logically inside that). Also when exporting, you can opt to have LR award the France keyword explicitly in such a case (just for the exported copy). So: this option previews any such extra "parent" keywords which would get added, or which are additionally used for searches, due to nesting. If you un-nested the keywords tomorrow, that behaviour would stop. Of course, if you did explicitly add France as well as Paris, then nested or not nested, would make no practical difference.
The item "Will Export" AFAIK relates to the ability to conceal particular keywords from exporting - by clearing a checkbox in the keyword properties. These operate internally as normal, only when exported, they get left out. Perhaps they are purely there for organisational or workflow reasons - or some kind of a private flag or rating which is never intended for public consumption. This option previews the omission of those keywords, which would happen if you exported - I guess, allowing a check that nothing will be included that you don't want to be.
Both these options are rather specialised; it is far more normal AFAICT, to just leave this set to "Enter Keywords".

  • LR2-How delete keyword tags

In LR 1.4, I was able to delete keywords from multiple photos by:
    1. Highlighting the photos
    2. Deleting the targeted keywords from the keyword tags panel.
This is consistent in the LR2 help files: "With photos selected in the Grid view or the Filmstrip, do any of the following: To remove keyword tags from photos, select one or more keyword tags in the Keyword Tags area of the Keywording panel and delete them."
However, this does not work in LR2 on my Vista machine. I can delete keywords from individual photos but if more than on photo is highlighted, the keyword is removed from the first file only. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Thanks in advance, dave

You must be doing it in something other than the grid view. If so, then the this behavior is correct.

  • LR Windows XP--How delete keyword tags

I inadvertently imported a lot of photos with the wrong keyword tags. What's the best way--or any way--to remove them? Thanks.

Simply delete the keywords from the Keyword Tags panel on the left side of the display. Keywords deleted from the panel will be removed from all the images tagged with those keywords.

  • Most of keywords got deleted.

I accidentally deleted most of my keywords. Is there any way to find them and get them back? The undo command doesn't seem to have any effect. Is there perhaps a way to quit Aperture without saving the changes, or is this not possible?

Mine got deleted too. I opened the Keyword HUD and a bunch of keywords (folders and subfolders) were highlighted. First time I've seen that happen. I went to drag a keyword to an image and it looked like it was going to drag all the highlighted ones. So I put the mouse back over the keyword HUD and let go. To my surprise, several folders full of keywords (and their folders) got deleted and many of the other keywords were moved out of their folders. I guess ESC would have been the better choice (hindsight is 20:20) but, still, what the heck was that all about?
My images still have the keywords and the keywords show up in the Search box but if I search on any of those keywords, no images are found. I'm not adverse to keying them all back in again but that doesn't seem to work. I tried re-typing one into the HUD but, again, no images have that keyword (even though many of them actually do).
I have a relatively recent vault. Rather than restoring everything, how can I restore the keywords only? Can I simply replace the Keywords.plist file with the one from the vault? I'd try myself instead of asking but I don't want to make things worse.

  • Help with deleting a single letter keyword

I was typing River but for some reason the cursor flashed out of the keywording box, this left me with a keyword of R.
I'm trying to use the keywording list to bring it up so that I can delete it but the problem is that it brings up every word with an accurance of R, as you can imagine that's quite a lot and Lightroom will not allow me to select the keyword to delete it once it's past a certain part of the list.
Does anyone know how to search for R and only bring up words starting with R?

Sounds like you may be tripping over a long-standing limitation of LR on Windows -- it will display at most 1600 or so keywords in the keyword list, silently truncating the rest.   If you have more than 1600 keywords containing the letter "r", then you won't be able to use the Filter Keywords box to call up the offending keyword.
The standard workaround is to introduce some heirarchy into your keywords, such that every keyword has fewer than 1600 children.  In the Keyword List, you can select multiple keywords and drag them onto their new parent keyword.  Once you've done that, you'll be able to display the "r" keyword in the Keyword List and delete it.

  • How can I expand the path of keywords in the metadata inspector?

In the metadata view I see the keywords at the leaf level, but I want to see the full path in order to delete one of multiple keywords of the same name (at leaf level).
To better explain: Let's say there are two leafs "other"; if both are applied to a single version then they appear as one "other" in the inspector. If I delete the only "other" in the inspector then it deletes both types, not just the one. Obviously something is keeping track of the difference, because when I delete the keyword of type1's "other", it complains that a version has it. Yet, when I delete it, the type 2's "other" remains in the inspector's keyword list.
In a nutshell: I simply want to delete a keyword for a given path, whether it be from the inspector or some other method. Besides, it would be nice to see which "other" it is in the inspector. Surely there is a preference I missed.

    You can't (afaik).
Aperture's implementation of Keywording in general, and hierarchical Keywords in particular, would benefit from a rather complete rewrite.
I strongly suggest renaming your keywords so that you have NO identical Keywords at different levels of your Keyword hierarchy.  (Perhaps "OtherPerson", "OtherFlower".)
If you do this before deleting any Keywords, the "same name different Keyword" problem will disappear, both for applying Keywords and for deleting Keywords.  Renaming Keywords is live -- if you rename one in the Keywords HUD, it will be renamed for every Image to which it is assigned.
Note that the Keyword Rule in the Filter HUD will show you a more complete path when needed.  You should be able to filter for Keywords by path if two Keywords of the same name are present in the container being filtered.
(This is from memory -- I can't check right now.)

Do you possibly mean the contacts have been merged?
If so, where are each of you syncing contacts?  A supported application on the computer? iCloud or another cloud service? An Exchange server?
WIthout details, it's difficult to offer specific resolutions.

Same problem here (no graphics in header or footer) and the problem has been reported months ago. It is another bug/feature lost when Apple moves from 09 to the iCloud-compatible versions.  Complain to Apple, you may have better chance than me and they may finally listen to their users....

Hold the home and power button down until your phone restarts. If that doesn't work, backup and restore using iTunes.

  • Can't figure out how to delete addresses that autofill in the Mail To field

Can't figure out how to delete addresses from the address book that will automatically fill in an address after typing a few letters of a name. Quite a few people have changed their email address but I sometimes inadvertenly choose an old address just because I can't delete it.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Milli.

Assuming you're using Apple Mail, you take those old addresses out of the Previous Recipients list. When in Mail, go to the Window menu, then Previous Recipients. Edit this list, it's everyone you've sent mail to, not just address book people.
Alternatively, when composing a mail message and seeing those old addresses, you should be able to click & hold over the name and a list of actions should appear, including "remove from previous recipients list" if they are not in your address book.

This is for your protection, its not supposed to be easy.
You should be keeping a record of all your passwords, security answers, etc.
Rescue email address and how to reset Apple id sec. questions.

  • Photos on iPad and iPhone as Events that i have already deleted in iPhoto and can't find out how to delete?!

Photos on iPad and iPhone as Events that i have already deleted in iPhoto and can't find out how to delete?!

I had an album on my iPad that didn't have a delete option. I was able to finally remove everything by connecting the iPad to iTunes and going to the Photos tab. Select sync photos. It will ask you if you want to replace all photo on iPad with sync photos. Apply the setting and then un-sync photo again. It will then remove all photos on iPad starting with a clean slate.
Be sure to backup all your photos before doing this. Hope that helps.

        Hi there T&P63385!
Look no further! I have the answer for you! You can add a new email account to your android device by following these steps: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=31401
Now I do want to let you know that your phone has a "main" gmail account. If this "main" gmail account was the one you deleted it may be best that you reset your phone and activate it to your new gmail address.
The reason I recommend doing this is all of your purchased application information is also tied to your gmail.
Ensure your personal information is backed up (contacts, pictures, etc) and follow these steps to Hard Reset your phone:http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=31308
Let me know if you have any other questions!
    Thanks,

My email recently changed and so I updated my Apple ID to reflect my new email, but my Icloud account still shows the old email as the username on both my Iphone and Ipad and for the life of me I can't figure out how to change or delete it.  My password doesn't work with the old email address.  When I look for my old email address in the Apple ID support area it says that the ID doesn't exist.  Help!!!

You have to go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated credentials.  This deletes the account and your synced data from your device, but not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing to a different account, your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.
