Can't delete or partition bootcamp

I have an imac 27" that I got back in June of 2013. It is the late 2012 model and has 16gb ram, i7, and the 3tb hybrid drive. I use windows for gaming and editing my youtube videos, but I cannot use windows. In the startup tray, my windows is missing, and also when I go into safe mode, recovery, internet recovery, or just regular disk utility I cannot partiton anything from my hdd. This is absoulutley horrible! Apple could do me not help, and people have had similar isssues, but there fixes don't work for me. In bootcamp assistant, the erase or install windows 7 section is missing. I cannot wipe my hard drive even when in recovey. This is horribe! I had a gaming pc that I sold and bought this, and although this has equivalent specs and runs games just as good or even better, I cannot game anymore! This is a huge dillema for me, because this is how I make a living.
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Your hybrid (or Fusion) drive is probably where you are having problems.  You need the latest version of Boot Camp Assistant, and some luck to get it fully working properly.  With the Apple Fustion drive, and Boot Camp, the Boot Camp Assistant will take the disc space you want to allocate for Windows away from the Fustion drive and give you a dedicated partition on the HDD in your computer.
Anything past this point is beynd me because I don't have a Fusion drive setup to be able to tell you how to go from there.

  • I can't delete a partition from my Hard Drive using Boot Camp!!??!!

Hello. Earlier today I installed Windows 8 to my iMac using boot camp and creating a partition. I've decided I don't like it, and want to remove it. I cannot delete the partition!! Help!!

How are you trying to delete it? What happens when you try? There is only one way to remove a Bootcamp partition and return your drive to a single OSx partition, use Bootcamp Assistant and choose the menu option to remove Windows.

  • I am Using Bootcamp , But When i install window no bootcamp sign happen , When i press Option , I cant change to mac? I am bored of windows can i delete that partition?

Anyone please help me with it? no boot camp sign in Windows And i cant even acess openoffice T.T

What Macbookpro do you have, which version of Mac OSX?
    1. If you have shutdown completely, connect the power adapter;
    2. On the built-in keyboard press the left side Shift+Control+Alt(option) keys and the Power button AT THE SAME TIME;
    3. Release all keys and the power button at the same time;
    4. Press the power button to turn on the computer, while holding the Alt(option) key on the built-in keyboard;
    5. As soon as you see a menu with the Recovery Partition (Lion only), the Windows Partition and the OSX partition you can release the Alt key, and choose the OSX Partition.

  • If I have the correct Recovery Media, can I delete the 7 Gb recovery partition on my Aspire Switch?

    jdangelotx,
No, you would not be able to as this system uses WIMBOOT.

  • Delete several partitions in physical model

    Hi All,
I don't know if someone has the same necessity than me, if not maybe is because I don't know how to do something that is already implemented,
    anyway, my question is:
How can I delete several partitions (400) at the same time from the same table in the physical model?
I can select the partitions but the contextual menu is not working, I can press delete button into the toolbar but is doing nothing,
I imported from my data dictionary a schema with several tables that have a lot of partitions and I'm not interested to save these partitions,
when I try to generate the DDL is generating all of the partitions and I don't want the DDL with thousands of partitions inside,
the number of tables with partitions is not so high but is not comfortable to go one by one selecting the partitions and deleting the object (400 times in one table),
I can modify the table to say that is not partitioned and all the partitions will disappear but I then need to modify again the tables and include the fields for the partitions and sub-partitions, not useful,
another option could be to select during the import if I want to import only one partition of each table
but I 'm not sure is at the end it's needed just because I think that only deleting the partitions with one operation should be enough, at least for me
    thanks in advance

    Hi David,
First of all thanks for your quick response and for your help logging the enhancement request,
I am testing more or less your suggestion but I  am not sure if I understood exactly what you mean,
1)I imported from data dictionary in a new model and into the options menu on the schema select screen I un-ckecked partitions and triggers,
I guessed that the import should not get from the data dictionary the information about the partitions but the result is that the tables partitioned (by list in this case) are partitioned by range without fields into the physical model on SDDM,
2)I select one of the tables modify a NO partitioned option and propagate the option for the rest of the tables
    3) I imported again from data dictionary but this time I included the partitions into the option menu on select schema screen,
into tabular view on compare models screen I can select all the tables with different partitioned option, also I can change for "list partitions" and select only the partitions that I want to import.
So I have a solution for my problem, thanks a lot for your suggestion
The second step I'm not sure is needed or maybe I can avoid the step with some configuration setting in any of the preferences screen,
if not, I think the options to not include partitions into select schema screen are not so clear, at least for me,
please, could you confirm me if a way to avoid the second step exists or if I misunderstood this option?
    thanks in advance

  • Mac OS can't find my partition

Having a little boot camp issues.
I had an existing 32g partition that I was using to run Windows XP. I figured I'd wipe it when I upgraded to Win 7, so I removed the partition, via boot camp assistant. No problem.
Then I wanted to make a new one. I made another 32g partition, and found out Windows 7 needs to be NTFS. While there aren't any direct settings in Boot Camp assistant to specify, I figured I should try one more time and make one over 32g. But now, assistant can't delete the partition and sends me to try it in Disk Utility to reformat in the Mac OS (Journaled?). I tried in there, but it's telling me I need to reformat too.
Now, I have to hold down option to stop from booting in my non-existant boot camp (I get dos prompt looking for the boot disk) and Mac acts like I don't even have a partition. But when I try to extend my mac's side to overlap the partition in disk utility, I get this:
    Partition failed with the error:
Could not modify partition map because filesystem verification failed
    Whew, any ideas?

Still no luck. According to the windows installer, I have a few disks:
    Partition 1":EFI" 200 MB, 181 free (a system? drive)
    Partition 2 563.9 GB, 0.0 free (primary)
    unallocated space 32.1 G
When I tried to install in unallocated, I got the warning:
"Selected disk is of the GPT partition style"

  • Can we expand the partition of Lion's encrypted space?

I've been playing with this for an hour.  I have Lion on a 50GB partition, the othe 950 GB are on Snow Leopard.  I'm not really ready to give up SL, so I was going to expand Lion into it.  Wow, not as easy as you'd think.  The best article I've found is this one
    http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/DU4.html
The problem is that my Lion is the bottom partition and will not expand down as in the description.  I always get the same message in Disk Utility:  This partition can not be modified.
Let's assume I can't at all move the partition.  Can I delete the partition from SL and download Lion again from my TM backup, or will that encryption get in the way?
    As always, thank you much,

    Hi SharonAmt,
You suggested to keep a Group on Country and then place the Chart Object in the Group Footer. This is helpful in getting different Charts for different Countries but these charts come one after another and not beside each other. I had previously tried this but due to inability to place Charts besides each other, this idea was changed.
    Hi IanWaterman,
Your answer to my problem was there only in the word 'Underlay'. I have conditionally set the Underlay of different section and by keeping Charts in different sections, I am able to acheive my requirement of placing charts beside each other and also of not keeping any unwanted space.
Though my original question of whether I can change the Y co-ordinate of any control and also changing the height of the Section still persists, but your solution of UnderLay helped me in acheving my requirement.
    Thanking all.
    Regards.
    Ajit.

  • Deleting a partition with Disk Utility

I have 5 partitions on my external drive. One is corrupted to the extent that I can not erase it with D/U.
I had tried to repair the partition with Disk Warrior, but it appears that would take many, many hours.
Can I delete the partition without deleting the other four?
    Thanks for any help.

No, Disk Utility will erase them all, use DW.

  • Deleting a partition - quick and easy.

    Hi.
I have a 250 gig HD that I had partitioned in two. One half being a backup boot drive (1), the other half (2) for my itunes library. I am running out of room for my itunes library and have since added a separate HD for the backup boot drive rendering the partition pointless.
I erased the backup portion (1) and have already copied my entire itunes library on (2) to the open partition (1). Yes. I now have 2 identical itunes libraries on 1 HD, partitioned in half.
Can I now simply delete the old library (2) partition without it deleting the ENTIRE HD?? I have over 100 gigs of music that I do NOT want to lose.
    Thanks.

    zippy, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Using Disk Utility, you can't delete a partition without erasing the entire HD. There's a third party app that claims you can add/delete partitions, but the app instructions say for safety, you should backup the files first. You could lose the files.
     Cheers, Tom

  • I have a Bootcamp partition on  my Imac with Mavericks which I can't delete because the Partition Layout is greyed out and is stuck on 'Current'. What can I do?

I have a Bootcamp partition on my Imac with Mavericks which I can't delete because the Partition Layout in Disk Utility is greyed out and is stuck on 'Current'. What can I do? I was trying to install Windows 8.1 but apparently, this is not yet possible.
I was originally able to restore to my original Mac OSX partition using Boot Camp Assistant but then after entering Disk Utility and re-RAIDing the default RAID 1 to RAID 0 in the BootCamp partition (I suspect this is the cause of the problem but why was it defaulted to RAID 1 in the first place?!!!!), forever afterwards, I couldn't restore the single OSX partition.
Whenever I used BootCamp Assistant my choice to 'Install or remove Windows 7 or later version' was greyed out. Finally I went to Disk Utility to repartition but the Macintosh HD and BootCamp disk partition functions were also greyed out (even if I started up from Recovery mode holding down option, command and 'R' and choosing Disk Utility). BootCamp Assistant gives the error message 'The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition' with additional small script 'The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows', and DU gives the error message 'The full size of the Fusion drive is not available for repartitioning'.
What can I do to fix this problem? How can I make the Partition Layout button active in DU so I can change the partition to all OSX? I'm prepared to wipe off all my data etc to repartition and have backed up all to disk using Time Machine.

My problem is fixed now, thank you. It was caused by my changing the Boot Camp partition's 'RAID1' to 'RAID0'. If I hadn't done that, Boot Camp would still have been able to 'restore' back to the one partition. It was fixed with the help of Applecare by using a terminal and typing a command to erase the IP of the Macintosh disk (not the volume) as well as the IP of the Bootcamp partition (if I remember correctly), but then I had to restore the OS and all my applications and data etc which I had previously backed up using Time Machine. I haven't taken note of the exact command terminology used. It would be wise to speak to Applecare about this if possible.
Two words of warning, 1. According to the cause of this problem, it might be wise, after reinstalling the ops system to reinstall all extra applications one by one, manually, in case a similar problem arises again. Then manually copy back all data. Or the Mac user could use the Time Machine backup and then uninstall all the added apps then re-install them one by one manually. 2. Beware as after all this the user might not have the 'Recovery partition'. There is a small recovery partition (a few 100 Mb is size) which comes with all later Macs. After all this is done this tiny partition might not be there anymore and the user might have to re-install Mavericks again to get it back, or just install the upcoming update of Mavericks due in a month or so.

  • Created partition without bootcamp, now i can't delete it

    Hi Everyone,
I was trying to install Windows 8 on my Late 2011 MBP and it was not possible with Bootcamp. I tried it and got an interesting error like 'No bootable device...'. Then i decided to try to install Windows 8 without Bootcamp. Created a partition by Disk Utility on OS X, booted by Windows 8 Installer USB stick, deleted and formatted the partition by Windows 8 Installer. But still, i was not able to install Windows 8, don't know why.
Now, my problem is that i don't care about Windows 8 no more, i just want to merge the Mac partition and empty partition but i can't. In disk utility (in OS X), i don't see any allocated space, but if i boot by Windows 8 Installer, there are partitions or allocated spaces created by it and i can see all the partitions. I don't know what to do, how can i merge the partitions for using it in OS X? I think i need some serious help.
If there is nothing to do, i will create a backup of my files in an external drive and delete the internal drive. Will it work? But i don't want to do this since i have lots of files and my Mac uses usb 2.0 port.
P.S: I think it is not important but specifications of my Mac are:
Late 2011 MacBook Pro 15'', i7 2.4 GHz, AMD HD6770M 1 GB, 8 GB of RAM, Samsung EVO 840 120 GB SSD, Hitachi Travelstar 7k1000 1 TB HD, no optical drive.

Using Bootcamp Assistant re-arranges your partitions in a specific order, which is EFI/ESP, OSX, OSX Recovery HD, BC/Windows. If you do not use BCA to remove Windows but use Disk Utility to manipulate the BC/Windows partition, BC/Windows can be deleted, but Recovery HD will not let you merge disk space back into OSX partition. BCA while removing also rearranges Recovery HD to emerge the freed space back into your main OSX partition.
This is why it is recommended that DU should not be used to change partitions, if BCA is also used.
BCA creates a Hybrid MBR, while a straight W8 installer uses EFI to boot on 2013+ Macs, but prior Macs, like the 2011 MBPs do not fully support W8 direct installation.
In either case, as tbirdvet suggests, the recourse now is to back up, use Internet Recovery (Command+Opt+R - you must see a spinning globe), erase your internal disk, and restore from backup.
Please also see OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support.
Thanks, i think it seems like this is the only solution, luckily, since the system is on the ssd i don't have to reinstall the OS. Now i am creating a backup then i will erase the disk and load my backup.
Since you have two physical drives, being treated as two separate disks, depending on which disk you were manipulating for Windows, you may have to erase one or both drives.
If the second disk (HDD) was your Windows destination, and you removed the original built-in Optical drive, BCA set the system to boot from the unavailable Optical drive which resulted in 'No bootable device' error.

  • Can I delete my OSX partition when running win7 via bootcamp, without breaking anything?

Helpful answers only please this isn't a Win vs. Mac discussion
I'm running Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro, which I installed via bootcamp and haven't used OSX since...
Can I just delete the partition to which OSX is installed and use Windows 7 only or could that break my system?
    Thanks,
    Robin

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can do what you want to do, because the EFI partition remains untouched. Windows comes with Disk Management (you can find it digging into Control Panel), that allows you to do what you want to do. See > http://technet.microsoft.com/es-es/library/cc770943.aspx
I do not recommend you to delete OS X in case you need to install firmware updates, but instead what you can do is to give OS X the minimum space possible and give near everything to Windows. You can do this in OS X with Paragon Camptune.

  • Deleted and resized bootcamp partition. How can I get my files back?!?!?

So I used a Windows partition for months and decided to switch back to Mac.
I backed up most of my files and then deleted the partition with the Mac Boot Camp Assistant. Then resized it back to 500gb.
I soon realized that there are some very important files which I forgot to backup off the windows partition.
I REALLY need these files back, please tell me there is SOME WAY I can recover those files.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hi Yale,
    Thanks for your post.
What’s the version of your TFS and VS?
How did you “removed the mapping in Source Control Explorer”? Please share the detailed steps here.
If you deleted the source files in Source Control Explorer, but you haven’t check-in on your source folder, you can perform
Undo Pending Change… on your source folder to get that deleted sour files back.
