Can't delete or rename folders when I FTP

Hi
Hope someone can help me with this!!
When I connect to a webserver using FTP with dreamweaver, it
won't let me delete or rename any folders.
It's nothing to do with the persmissions becasue the user has
full permissions and can delete or rename when I FTP using a
different client. Any ideas?? Is there a setting that I am
missing??
Thanks in advace for any help
Cheer

Do you run a mac?
I had this problem at the last company that I worked for. I
was on a Mac
then; not sure if that had anything to do with the problem.
I could sometimes connect with Dreamweaver but I could always
connect with
another ftp client. At one point, when the problems started,
I used
Dreamweaver to rename folders on the server. Instead of
creating them on my
own system, I created files and renamed folder directly on
the server
through DW. After that, I had problems. At one point, all the
files got
changed so that they were locked down.
Occasionally, I thought I isolated the problem. At times,
recreating the
entire site worked. At other times, it helped for the server
to be rebooted.
At times I thought it was because of the firewall or content
filter that was
doing it. I think it was a Windows Server that I had the
problems with. I
don't remember if the other servers gave me problems.
I never really resolved it. Now I'm at a different job and I
have but a
passing interest in what it might be.
Sorry I don't have anything solid.

  • Can I delete the files/folders in 'Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup'?

    Hi!
I have just tried to backup and update my iphone to iOS 5.1. The backup seems to have worked but when it came to restoring the iphone, I think the hard disk ran out of space and so it failed. I saw this and so I freed up around 3Gb of disk space and I tried it again. It again failed. Again I noticed that there was no space left on the hard disk. I assumed that to continue the restore it probably won't need that much more space (as it had already done most of the work) so I freed up a few more Gb.
Again it failed. When it fails, itunes leaves the partially restored elements on my hard disk meaning that my 'Apple Computer' folder is now 28Gb!! I cannot afford to delete anything else from the hard disk. I am using a PC by the way. I have noticed that in the folder 'Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup' has 5 folders in it which is the same amount that I tried to restore the iphone (before the last restore attempt there were 4 folders). These folders amount to 20Gb. From this I am assuming that the actual backup that I made is infact in 'Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Backups'.
Can I delete the folders in 'MobileSync\Backup'? This would free up 20Gb of disk space giving me enough to properly restore (in theory!).
    Thanks for your time!!
    Nick

your advice worked for me and saved me what ever evil lurked behind my thought to just delete the backup and get back my very lmited space on my 250GB Mackbook Pro using daisydisk pro https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/daisydisk/id411643860?mt=12
    Why DaisyDisk?
DaisyDisk remains the tool of choice for film makers (including companies like Pixar), digital artists, IT professionals and hundreds of thousands of Mac users worldwide when it comes to disk space management. Constantly improving since its initial introduction, the app easily blows away competition in terms of speed, efficiency and user experience.

Delete iOS backups this way: iTunes>Preferences>Devices...select the backup/backups...hit delete. Do not mess with your backup folder.

  • How can I delete my Icloud account when I don't know the password and no longer have the email address associated with it?

How can I delete my Icloud account when I don't know the password and no longer have the email address associated with it?
You need your password to delete it and I need the email address to reset the password.  I feel like I'm going in circles!!!  Please help!!!

Go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address (you shouldn't need to verify the old account).  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Calendar App showing a new blank calendar that I can't delete or rename.

So suddenly my iPod has two separate calendars in the Calendar app, one identified with a red dot, the other with an orange dot, and I can neither delete nor rename this new second calendar. Both are named 'Calendar,' and I have the option to view either one or 'All.' The new one is blank; there are no events. I can see where having multiple calendars would be useful - for example, family stuff and work stuff could be on separate calendars - but not as much if I can't add, delete or rename these separate calendars.
I think this second blank calendar appeared today, after I added the Google App to my iPod, and also after I tried syncing my iPod calendar to Outlook (with no success, it seems - Outlook's calendar is blank).
Sorry if this is a stupid question - I've been looking online, and gone through the manual and all the settings - I can't find the solution.
    Thanks!

    Wayne,
Quit iCal, open Address Book, and click on your card. Then select Address Book>Card>Make this My Card.
If that does not fix the problem, then delete and recreate your card, and once again make sure to designate it with "Make this My Card.

  • What can I delete from what folders to A) get more space and B) speed up machine.  2009 Imac Intel based Leopard

What can I delete from what folders to A) get more space and B) speed up machine.  2009 Imac Intel based Leopard

If you start deleting things in hidden system folders, or in an /Library folder you may very well mess up something.
That is why I say limit what you delete to your User folder only and only those files you've put or created there.  Start messing with anything system or application related without know exactly what you are doing and you risk fubar'ing something.
There are in fact many places in the system areas that will appear to be redundant, but they are not so just because they have similar path or file names.
Also, how much free space do you have with just a freshly rebooted system?  If your system does not have much RAM (given the apps your normally run on it), it may be creating quite a bit of swap space.  That will be flushed out with a reboot, but if your system is RAM limited, then it will just grow back.  In such a case, more RAM would help.
Use Activity Monitor to look at your RAM and swap use over a few days of normal use - look particularly at the page outs, as that will tell you how much virtual memory is actually being used on the drive.  If page outs are high (thousands to 10's of thousands or more) your system is RAM limited, and your drive will be filling up with swap files.

  • PSE5 organizer tracking deleted and renamed folders and removing orphan thumbnails

If files are deleted or renamed within a folder that's being watched by organizer, the changes made through explorer or any other program don't seem to ever get reflected in Organizer. For example, I deleted an entire folder of junk photos through Windows. They still show in Organizer. How do I tell Organizer to re-scan the folder and remove orphan thumbnails from the catalog? The only thing I've been able to do at this point is to highlight them all and delete them. That's not bad for a single folder, but is a pain when I've done a lot of renaming, reorganizing, and creation and deletion of folders and subfolders under the watched folder.
I've used a program called Thumbs Plus for years, and it has an option "remove orphans" that you can do globally, or on a folder and its subfolders. I'm wondering if there's something similar in PSE.

Yes, I realize that in an "ideal" world we could do absolutely all of our organizing in "organizer" but I just can't see that becoming a reality. We have different users on this computer and there are certainly going to be times when we're already working in another program, including Windows Explorer. One would think that if Organizer is monitoring a folder it would detect all changes, or at least have a manual "rescan folder" or "remove option of some sort to help get the real files back in sync with the catalog. Hmmm. I'm still using eval mode and not sure that I like this part! Perhaps the next version will do better in this regard.

  • Can't Delete (or Rename) Unused Mailboxes

Having just upgraded to Leopard, I wanted to clean up my mail and delete two unused mailboxs. Problem is, I can't delete either mailbox. Nothing happens when I select the "Delete Mailbox" command. I can't even rename them. When I try, I get an error message telling me that "Mail was unable to rename…" Seems that once a mailbox is created it can never be deleted or renamed. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Oops! My bad. I guess I didn't read it carefully enough.
I just copied this from Mail Help. If this doesn't work, I'm out of suggestions.
    Deleting mailboxes
If you no longer need a mailbox or any of the messages it contains, you can easily delete it. Do not delete a mailbox in the Finder because the change may not appear in Mail; always use Mail to delete mailboxes.
NOTE: Deleting a mailbox permanently deletes the mailbox and its contents, and cannot be undone. If you set up Time Machine to back up files, you can use it to recover previous versions of a deleted mailbox.
    Recovering mailboxes and their content
    To delete a mailbox:
Select the mailbox and choose Mailbox > Delete, or Control-click the mailbox and choose Delete from the pop-up menu.

If a message says you can’t delete a mailbox, you may not have permission to delete a mailbox from On My Mac, or there may be network or server-related reasons.
To see your permissions for a mailbox, select the mailbox (located in the Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ folder in your home folder) and then choose File > Get Info. Click the triangle next to Sharing & Permissions to see information about the permissions for the mailbox and then make any necessary changes.

If you have problems deleting an IMAP mailbox on the server, contact your Internet service provider (ISP).
When you delete a mailbox, rules that were applied to the mailbox are disabled in Mail preferences.
When you delete a Smart Mailbox, the messages it contains remain in their original location.

  • Can't Modify or Rename Folders in Utilities or some Applications

All the application folders in my Utilities Folder cannot be renamed and I can't delete them unless I put in an admin password.
This occurred after I migrated to a new Macbook Pro 15" from my previous one. The problem did not occur on the old one.
An example from a folder in Utilities - "Pacifist 2.5.2":
    1. Get Info Says that I (david), admin and everyone all have "Read and Write" permissions
    2. Get Info says that folder is not Locked
    3.Terminal says "drwx rwx rwx@ 9 david admin ... Pacifist 2.5.2"
Based on the above there should be no reason why I can't rename the folder. Sub folders have the same problem. As a result - applications that try to autoupdate from the internet are failing because they are unable to write to their own folder (latest example: SplashID).
It is also affecting some of the Apps in the main Application folders. Seems to be anything that was migrated is locked out but stuff newly installed there is OK.
Locked Applications (can't rename or change label) have the following permissions in Get Info:
    System: RW
    Wheel: R
    Everyone: R
Applications that can be renamed or have the label changed have the following:
    System: RW
    Admin: RW
    Everyone: R
However, adding an "admin RW" permission to the former type does not open it up.
Is there any way to batch fix this? Or any way to fix it at all?
Of course I have run repair permission a couple of times.
    Appreciate any tips. Thanks
    David

If an application was not installed by an Apple installer (e.g. drag and drop) or is in your user's folder, repairing permissions will be useless.
Your example shows extended attributes. Try the following Terminal command to list any additional attributes and ACL entries:/usr/bin/who am i; /bin/ls -leO@d /path/to/problem/folder

  • How can I delete my iCloud account when I have changed my Apple ID and cannot now sign out as do not have the original Apple ID and password.

I am unable to delete my iCloud account from my device. This is because I recently changed my Apple ID email/ username which now means when I try to delete my iCloud account to log back in with my new Apple ID I am unable to as it requests my old Apple ID username and password which no longer exist. i am on IOS 8.1. Can someone help me find a solution to this?

Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iPad and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless using iCloud Photo Library).  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out and choose Delete from My iPad when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

  • Can't delete baggage files/folders

Running robohelp x3, I've somehow generated files in my
baggage files that I can't delete. They are missing files (since I
didn't create them in the first place) and I can't delete their
reference or (because they are referenced) the folder it's in. I
think I might have edited a file within the generated set of files

    files that I can't delete:

  • 10.6 - Can't Delete Share Point Folders

Hello Everyone. I am using Mac OS X Server, version 1.6 "hosted" by GoDaddy, so I don't have access to the Finder window to access files directly. All of my access has to be through Server Admin, Workgroup Manager, or an FTP client (in my case, Filezilla).
I am trying to find a way to delete share point folders, but have not been able to find any method other than using the Finder, which I do not have access to.
Any help, guidance, help would be greatly appreciated please.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi
+"I am using Mac OS X Server, version 1.6 "hosted" by GoDaddy"+
What does this mean exactly? Is the Server at GoDaddy's offices and behind their firewall or do you mean the domain is with GoDaddy? Every OSX Server installation enables ssh and by default. If the Server is at a location and a network environment you're familiar with and assuming NAT and you're trying to do this remotely, simply open the relevant ports in the Firewall to forward external access to the Server's private IP address.
With Remote Management you have access to the Finder.
If the Server is using a Public IP address (unless you're aware of the risks I would not recommend this) then either establish an ssh or vnc connection. If you're going to attempt ssh you should be familiar with the command line. If this is not to your taste use vnc instead.

  • W530 - Made Recovery Disk - Now I see an S Drive - Can I delete? rename?

    Hello,
I am just setting up my new W530.
I noticed it came with a partition with the original software. I double clicked on this and ran through the steps and it completed successfully.
the first time I tried it though it crashed and afterwards I noticed a new S drive in my computer. It is still there now.
So I am wondering is this just a remenant from the crashed backup? Can I delete it?
Or do I need to be careful and do something else???
    Thank you so much!
