Can't delete or save contacts

I'm on a 17" mid 2010 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.3. When I open contacts and try to add a new contact then click done or save it doesn't save after closing. My entry will only exist until closing, when I open up contacts again it's gone. Also I cannot delete a contact. I thought this built in app could just be deleted and a fresh instal could be downloaded but can't find it anywhere. Suggestions anyone? Thanks in advance.

Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • How can I delete all my contacts from the icloud?

I've been working with Apple's sometime, and now I have been forced to use iCloud after MobileMe.
After syncing a couple of devices, some things went quite wrong. My iCloud contacts are now a complete mess. I have lots of duplicates. And over 8000 contacts.
What I want to do is, is do a cleanup, and clear all the iCloud contacts, and import a new 'clean' address book from 1 mac to the icloud, which then in it's turn can be synced to all the devices?
Is dit possible? I've noticed deleting manually is a pain, because the browser doesn't really allow more then 50 contacts or so at a time, before the browser freezes.

Go to your Contacts on your Mac - if more than one pick the most accurate; delete any contacts you don't want. Select all the contacts, and from the File menu choose 'Export...'>'Export vCard'. Save the resultant file safely: it will be your 'master' list.
Now delete all the contacts from whichever device has the most in it. Sync with iCloud. If necessary repeat with different Macs. The result should be that the deletions sync to iCloud and in the end you finish up with empty Contacts lists everywhere.
Now you can import your saved file to one of your Macs. Make sure you import it under 'iCloud' not 'On My Mac'. Then it should propagate iCloud and any other devices. Keep the saved file at least until you are satisfied that all is in order.

  • How can I delete all my contacts in Address Book?

I had syncing issues between my Entourage 2008 contacts, my Address Book contacts, and the PowerMac for Blackberry application. As a reference, I have around 5,000 contacts. I have solved the issue, but there is some collateral damage: read on.
Address Book duplicated my contacts two or three times, and it also created around 60,000 empty contacts. I have been able to clean the Entourage contacts, which only suffered from duplication but not from new empty entries.
I tried to delete the Address Book duplicate and empty entries. The easy way out, I thought, was to Select All and delete. It does not work. Given I have ended with around 80,000 contacts, after I Select All, and try to delete, the program hangs, and I have to Force Quit the Address Book application.
I tried to locate the Address Book file where contacts are stored, but I have not found an obvious name that would point to it, nor have I read anything about such file in the different discussion forums. So no success on this.
I have even used scripts in the past for deleting duplicates and merging contacts in Entourage, but I have not found one for Address Book that could take care of the massive number of empty entries with "No Name".
So, is there a way to delete all my contacts in Address Book?

There are two possibilities you can try:
    1. Delete all your duplicate entries. You can try downloading and running this Applescript Remove Duplicates, which will create a group named Duplicates in Address Book, from which you should be able to delete those entries, by selecting the Group, then in the next column to the Right, select all the entries and choose Delete Cards from the Edit menu.
    2. If that doesn't work, you can do this:
    1. Quit Address Book if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook and delete an of these files/folders you find there:
    • ABPerson.skIndex
    • ABPerson.skIndexInverted
    • Address Book - xxxxx.abbu
    • AddressBook.data
    • AddressBook.data.beforesave
    • AddressBook.data.previous
    • Images
    • LastImport.plist
    3. Restart Address Book and see if the default cards are there (Apple card, and your Me card) and if all seems to be working correctly.

  • Can I delete all the contacts from Facebook in my phone contact list.. !!!

I am a new i phone ower...  had Droid for over 4 years..   Currently... I miss my Droid!!...  iphone seems to control me.. and I hate that
    I have to use itunes..
Now it tells me (iphone 5).. I can not delete those off my phone contacts from Facebook.  I don't want all those on there I rarely speak with
    or contact..
PLEASE tell me how to control my phone..
    Peggy

Thanks..  did that...   When I try to download facebook to my iphone
it asked for my id, pwd.. etc.
    You're welcome.
Not sure how your FaceBook contacts were available or are available with the Contacts app on your iPhone if you have not already downloaded and installed the FaceBook app from the iTunes App Store.
This is when you try to download the FaceBook app from the iTunes App Store on your iPhone, or when accessing the FaceBook app on your iPhone that has already been downloaded and installed?
    1.  Voicemail.. I tap the person who left message.. in the voicmail.. (I think I am in the right screen/program)... I see the little button at the bottom moving as if a recording is on.. but NO volume.. nothing!!
When selecting Voicemail from within the Phone app and selecting a voicemail to listen to the voicemail, have you selected Speaker at the top right to listen to the voicemail through the iPhone's speaker? If not, you need to place the iPhone to your ear to listen to the voicemail.
    2.  How can I delete pictures off the "photos" .. camera roll and all that downloaded from Facebook, etc. and my latptop. I DO NOT want???
    Select the Photos App.
Seelct Camera Roll from Albums in the Photos App.
Select Edit at the top right to select a single photo to delete or multiple photos to delete followed by selecting the Red Delete button at the bottom right, or with a photo selected from within the Camera Roll viewing the selected photo full screen, there is a Trash Can icon at the bottom right. After selecting the Trash Can icon at the bottom right, a big red Delete Photo button is provided along with a Cancel button.
Seems like these iphones do more than the owner wants.. NO control  and I understand no customer service .. made me sicke no "owner's manual etc.  to refer to as a hard copy.  .. sorry  I am much older than the average iphone owner, so I like to have hard copies... cause I don't trust my laptop to keep all the info, etc.
    What?
You must be joking. I'm no spring chicken and have never needed to check the iPhone user guide.
There is plenty of control; Apple includes a mobile version of the iPhone User Guide with a Safari bookmark, or you can download the iPhone User Guide as a PDF file from here
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
Apple offers free telephone support for the first 90 days after the purchase date and free support at an Apple Retail Store.

  • How can I delete all my contact card "custom images"?

    Hi,
My contact images have been (mysteriously) randomly mixed... I just can't delete them one by one because there are hundreds and hundreds of them.
How can I delete them all?
This situation is also verified in my iCloud contacts, which is obvious since my computer, iPhone, iPad and iCloud are all synced together.
    Thanks in advance!

Go to SETTINGS, then ACCOUNTS AND SYNC select facebook and uncheck sync contacts and then do the same for yahoo.
back up contacts w/ backup assistant that is under accounts and sync.
then go back to SETTINGS then APPLICATIONS then MANAGER APPLICATIONS then ALL select PEOPLE then clear data. this will erase your contacts so make sure you have it backed up.
then go to SETTINGS then ACCOUNTS and SYNC then backup assistant and sync now and this should put all your contacts back on your phone without being relinked to facebook or yahoo at least i remember it being something like this when i was trying to get rid of facebook being linked to my contacts on my Tbolt.

  • How can I delete an imessage contact?

Hi. I have an iphone 4s. I have deleted a specific contact, and he is no longer in my contacts. Yet, when I try to write a new text message, if I hit the add button to search my contacts, his name and number still come up with the blue imessage icon. Can anyone tell me how to delete this info from my phone?
    Thanks!

I believe (and this is just my opinion) this information is in some type of message history just like email addresses were held in a history file and couldn't be deleted except with a restore as a new device. If someone knows something else, I'll be happy to listen to them too. I really don't think you can get rid of it without a restore.

  • Can I delete all my contacts on the BB using Finder?

I can sync everything except contacts on the DTM. For address book, I get the dreaded "KB19454" error. When it did sync, it repeated only one name 156 times.
I've found a work around using google contacts and google sync, which has gotten other people's numbers onto my phone, but I can't get that one person off. I'd like to just delete the contacts file on the BB using finder and start over with google sync. Anyone know how to do that?

Great tip on typing "rset" to deleted your BB contacts.  My issue is that I duplicated contacts after syncing my Curve with the BB Desktop Manager for Mac.  On my Curve, I have 2 address books on my BB.  Using the desktop manager, I deleted all my contacts.  I then did the "rset' on my BB for good measure.  So my BB now shows 2 address books that are both empty.  And if I open up either 1 then it shows as empty, too.    However, if I show "all address books" then I have all the contacts still there.
How do I get rid of them?  I've already deleted them manually twice and am tired of doing that for 900+ contacts.
Any way I can delete these contacts on my BB that the desktop manager doesn't see?

  • Deleting gmail save contacts

How can I delete a gmail account from my iphone and not loose my contacts?

    Good Afternoon!
Do you know if it's the SD card memory or the phone memory?  If it's the phone you may need to move pictures from the phone memory to the SD card, then set the SD card as the default memory space for pictures. (Launch the Camera, tap Menu, tap the settings icon, then tap Storage and choose Storage Card.)  If it is the SD card memory, then you may want to move files from your card to a PC to free up space. To do that, just plug in your device to the PC and in the notification bar at the top of the screen choose Disk Drive. Then do a drag and drop from the file that pops up on the PC screen and a folder in the computer.
Keep us posted!  Have a great day!

  • HT5824 How can I delete all my contacts from icloud with a single command?

I would like to delete all my contacts from iCloud so when I synchronize with my other devices, the one I already have don't be duplicated or deleted

If you delete all your iCloud contacts, then enable contact syncing with your other devices, the empty iCloud contacts are likely to overwrite the contacts on your other devices and you will lose them.
Do you have a master list of contacts on one of your devices that you are trying to replace the iCloud contacts with?

  • How can I delete all "hidden" contacts in iCloud?

Here's my problem. iCloud stores old contacts, maybe ones I emailed once or twice. I heard of this issue months ago, and to remedy, all I could do was reset my phone and keep iCloud shut off so that it didn't store these old contacts.
Anyway, when I moved to ios7, I forgot this, and turned on iCloud as I got set up. I put my Gmail account in as normal. When I went to compose an email and typed in a couple letters of the person I was intending to write (from my Gmail contacts) I saw them, as well as a host of other old emails and knew it was iCloud. I confirmed this when I went into iCloud Web, which that email acct. I never used and is ermpty, and typed in the contacts in a compose message and voila, all these names appeared.
For my phone, I had to reset it again and make sure to keep iCloud off so I don't see those contacts, but this is a big issue - Apple is storing these old contacts that I want obliterated. There are personal reasons I deleted those contacts, and in the case of iCloud, it imported an address book from an old employer and none of those folks I ever want to see again.
Same for texting on the phone, I've noticed that if you delete a contact, they still live in the phone. I don't understand why we can't obliterate these. I don't get why Apple is insistent on us keeping these old contacts in our lives...

Have you already tried to delete the contacts with the following steps:
    1. sign in at www.cloud.com
    2. open "Contacts"
    3. click on the little "Settings" cog wheel icon in the lower left hand corner
    4. choose "select all"
    5. and then choose "delete"

  • I have plenty of duplicated contacts in I cloud. How can I delete all the contacts in the cloud and resynchronize

I synchronized my contacts from my PC to I cloud. Unfortunately the contacts from I pad and I phone were also synchronized which gives me plenty of duplicates. How do I delete all of my contacts in I cloud to resynchronze and have the contacts only once in the I cloud.
Thank you for your valuable information. I am sure I am not the only one.

I have two groups on the iphone that were automatically generated: icloud and "on my mac".
when I erased all contacts on the computer and synchronized it with the phone, it only synchronized the icloud contacts but no the ones on my phone under "on my mac". so how can I get them into the icloud group....
    thx

  • How can I delete old, incorrect contacts from iCloud?

There are hidden duplicates in my iCloud contacts - old ones for contacts where I've updated info. They don't show up in the regular contacts list ("all contacts"), yet they always show up when I enter a name into an email address and in iPhoto's Faces names. I can't change them to the correct names in iPhoto. And I can't find them to delete the old data.
Anyone know where these are stored (old contact data that's been deleted or updated)? And, how can I access that place?
    Thank you.

    Well.....
After an incredible amount of research on this issue, I discovered it's not new. In fact, there have been many complaints about it with no action (to date) by Apple. Here's what's happening...
On iOS devices (iPad, iPhone), when an email is received or an email address is changed, IN THE EMAIL APP, a cache is formed with all the "received email addresses." These - right/wrong/incorrect/whatever are stored and pop up when you enter an email recipient. THERE IS NO WAY TO DELETE THESE ON iDEVICES.
However, if you have a Mac, it's an easy cure -
Open Mail > Windows > Previous recipients > select those you want out (or all, for that matter - doesn't affect the Contacts list) > Remove.
Too bad Apple hasn't seen fit to add this to its iOS functionality. Maybe if enough complaints are received, it might show up in iOS6 ?????

  • Can't delete, or add, contacts to Photoshop Elements 8

I am unable to add or delete any contacts to my Photoshop Elements 8 contact list. I can enter the new contact info and delete info on  the ones I choose when I try to edit, but it never shows these actions on my contact list. My contact list seems to be frozen. I don't get the send option either. Can anyone help??

It should be possible to bring in information automatically; at least in Windows.
    Try Edit >>Contact Book >>Import

  • Can't delete or save new bookmarks in safari

I am running OS X 10.8.2 and safari version 6.0.2.
Safari is not allowing me to delete current bookmarks or save any new ones. Manually deleting them from the bookmark page does nothing once I close out and reopen safari. Same goes with saving new ones. I attempted to look at similar threads to find a suggestion and what I found was the advice given to those questions can't be applied to this situation. Mainly because the file path they suggested to go doesn't exist on mine. Any help will much appreciated.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’renot going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
