Can't Delete or "Trash" Messages

I can't seem to delete messages in my mail box; it doesn't even send to any of the "Trash" mailboxes. I have no idea what's going on or how to fix it. I'm getting really tired of wading through a bunch of spam that I can't get rid of.

So here is what I would try:
Double click home button - app switcher - close the mail account and all others
Then reset the phone - Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support   - no data loss is incurred
Go into your mail and try to delete - which reminds me - how are you trying to delete?
Reason I ask is - there are two ways in iOS 8 as you know
You can swipe from right to left on the email while it is in the list  OR with the email open you can click on the trashcan in the bottom row
Thanks

This is a user-to-user forum. Everyone here is a volunteer. Sometimes it takes longer than two minutes to get answer. Additionally, it's a support forum for Apple products, not Skype. You might get lucky and get an answer, you might not. While you're waiting, why don't you try Skype support?

  • HT1430 I can't delete 2 email messages. All others delete properly, however 2 will not delete no matter what I try. A pop up message comes up and says "cannot not delete"

I can't delete 2 email messages that I received on the same day from one of my email accts. I have **** down the device and reset the device with no resolution to the problem. I can forward these two messages to our other acct and it will delete from there but returns to my personal email again, repeatedly. All other messages that I have deleted from my acct delete properly. I get a pop up indicating that " the message cannot be deleted". How do I fix this?

Delete the mail account and setup again.

  • How can I delete folder in Messages - Show Folder

    Hi.
I have BB9900. When I will go to Messages->Show Folder – then I see Folders  And there is some e-mail adress, inbox etc. many of them. There is also one e-mail address which is not used for me now – it’s used in past. I would like to delete that folder. How can I do that?
    Thank you in advance.

Double posting does not get a quicker response, it just upsets people and takes up more space.

  • Can I delete a corrupt message diretly from the In Box in the Mail folder

I received an e-mail that has an .eml attachment. Mail would not download the entire message with the attachment - although it continued trying to download once it started to load in my in box. I deleted this e-mail message from the server. Now Mail seems to be caught in a continuous loop of "Fetching new mail" The only way I can exit the program is to force quit. When I open the program again the same thing happens. When I try to move this partial e-mail to the trash or delete it, bounce it or forward it I get an "opening mailbox and synchronizing with file system" message
or the program freezes. When I try to copy this e-mail to another folder the message is "resuming interrupted append"
Is there a way to delete just a message from any of the in/out boxes?
It seems like all messaged, in/out/sent etc are all compressed together like a stuffit file but there's not way to get in and delete just a particular message. The only other way I have been able to get rid of a partially corrupted file like this is to remove the entire account or in this instance, the accounts in box, move it to another folder on the desktop, reopen Mail and let it rebuild the accounts in box, then copy and paste everything except for the corrupt file into that. There's got to be an easier way!
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

The problem I have is it will go into the trash, but then I have the same problem deleting it from the trash! Even when it looks like it's deleted and I reboot Mail, the file returns to the same spot or in the original In Box.
The problem, I think, lies in the actual corrupted file that's embedded in the in/out/trash etc file in the main Mail folder. From what I understand, Mac has fixed this problem in 10.4 and one can go and delete that particular message/file. In 10.3 land, they are all hidden. Thanks for brainstorming with me!

  • Can't delete previous unread messages in hub pinch view via select previous (hold date line)

Happily running OS 10.2.1.2141 on my Z10 (STL100-3). I was thrilled to see the hub's Pinch Selection Criteria option in 10.2.1 but did not have the occasion to try it. Then this weekend, my mailbox got flooded with email notices from our alert system and I was facing having to delete hundreds of emails the old tedious way, multi-select each email one at a time and hit the delete option.  Well, that's when I tried to use the hub's new pinch selection option to "hide" my read messages. I then held the date line to select all the previous messages and hit the delete option which asked my if a really wanted to delete those messages. I confirmed by choice and poof! nothing happened. I tried several times to no avail, even trying with flagged messages. It looks like you can't delete messages while in Pinch Selection view if you select them via the Select previous (hold date line) method. It does work if you select/multi-select the messages manualy but what's the point then?....
So, unless i'm doing it wrong, this appears to be a bug.
    Regards,
    Francis.....

Oh, yea for hundreds. Do you get hundreds each day you need to delete?
Once you get caught up on your deleting, then your daily upkeep should be a reasonable low effort.
    Anyways, that's how it works.

  • Exchange issue: send/receive mail fine - can't delete or move messages

Just installed Snow Leopard this morning - excited to finally be able to hook into my company's exchange server. Everything appears to be functioning fine (I can receive and see all messages in my inbox, I can send email fine) however when I try either delete a message or move a message to another folder I receive the following message:
"The message "XXXXXXX" could not be moved to the mailbox "Trash - [email protected]"
An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox "Trash - [email protected]""
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any advice/help!
EDIT: I am not currently aware of what exchange version my company is using.
    Message was edited by: Tyrun

I'll third the post. Identical problem, but I'm one of the Exchange 2007 e-mail administrators, so people ask me for answers. The autodiscover worked, so I know the settings are correct. Mail, iCal and Address Book all had no problem with the sync. I am also not being blocked by the firewall.
I'll start tweaking settings and see if I can make any progress. Just to reiterate what was stated by Tyrun, I can receive and send messages, but I can't move or delete (send to Trash) any messages. I'm running Snow Leopard, which was upgraded from an out-of-the-box fresh install of Leopard on a brand new MBP. All Software Updates have been applied.

  • Can't Delete to Trash with LR5.6 and iMac 10.9.5

I have used LR since version 1.  My main catalog is still LR 4.4 but I have downloaded the 5.6 CC trial with a view to updating but have run into a problem.   If I try to delete a photo from within a LR 5.6 catalog by pressing the delete key and clicking on "move to trash" an error message comes up saying that the volume does not support Trash.  It does offer the option to permanently delete the photo which works OK.
Alll photos and the catalog are stored on an external disk connected to the iMac via Firewire 800.  That disk is not networked and not shared with any other computer.  It is formatted as Mac Extended Journaled.  The permissions for that disk are all Read/Write (the problem persists whether or not the "ignore ownership" checkbox is checked or unchecked).  I have repaired the disk using Disk Utility and repaired Disk Permissions on the startup disk, I have also experimented with moving the LR catalog to the startup disk.  None of this helps - I still cannot move a photo from my catalog to the Trash but I can permanently delete it.
I have had no problems with this disk and can move photos to the trash from my LR 4.4 catalog and every other program and from the OS.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Hello
I've tried this, along with numerous other fixes on the forums and nothing seems to help. Running the latest version of LR (5.7) and Yosemite.  It was not an issue before I upgraded to Yosemite though. I deleted files regularly using the typical tools/commands in LR with no problem at all.  Most of the fixes have focused on problems with external hard drives but the files I am trying to delete are all on my hard drive. I also checked to be sure permissions were Read & Write on the main Adobe folder as well as the Lightroom folder in the finder.

  • Storage full on MacBook Pro, what is in 'Other'?  Can we delete the trash?

The storage on my MacBook Pro is almost full.  We noticed that there is 143GB in the 'other' category.  Any ideas what might be taking up all that storage in 'other'?  Also, our trash contains 58GB.  Is it okay to permanently delete the trash?  We noticed there are a lot of iTunes related items in the trash.

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How can I delete an email message on iphone that keeps reappearing after I delete it?

I have received 1 email that I can not delete from my iphone 4.  I delete it and it ust reappears. same if I move it to trash. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this email?

You can't delete from one without affecting the other.  simply change the limit on how many days of mail you want the phone to sync.
Do you really need 61,000 emails?

  • Can't delete or move messages unless I quit and restart

Beginning yesterday I was unable to delete or move any messages in any of my 4 accounts. If I closed Tbird than restarted it I could delete and move messages in all accounts for 10 or 15 minutes. Thereafter delete again mysteriously failed to work. It worked again for about 10-15 minutes after closing and restarting. Rebooting the system and running a thorough virus scan did not fix the problem.
Latest version of Thunderbird. Win 7, several email accounts both imap and POP. Problem applies over all accounts both imap and POP. Problem is NOT a corrupted trash folder. Others have reported this problem and no one, as yet, has posted a fix.
The problem is clearly not in the user settings nor a corrupted folder because if it were it would fail all the time. The key is the fact that it works until some time factor disables Delete. Delete is disabled whether TBird is in use during the 15 minutes or not in use during that time.

What does Mail/Window/Connection Doctor Show? If the server is red, select it and look at the Show Details box.
