Can't delete pics!

Hi--- I'm trying to delete photos on my iPad but after I check them to delete-- the delete button doesn't work-- any suggestions would help!!
Thanks
Mary

If you are syncing certain albums from iPhoto or Aperture to your iPad, then the contents of those albums can ONLY be changed on the host computer via iPhoto or Aperture.
However, any photos you download via e-mail, save from the Internet, or transfer to the device from a digital camera, are loaded into the "camera roll" and thus are not "albums" or "Events" as the Photos app calls them.
Think of the camera roll as an editable temporary album. The camera roll will let you delete pictures and videos from it. This behavior is the same on the iPhone and it confused the heck out of me at first as well.
It should also be noted that the only way to remove an "Event" from your iOS device is through iTunes, by telling iTunes to no longer sync that "Event".
Let us hope that a future release at least allows us to remove an "Event" from the photos app on the device in the future.
Until then, I hope this helps a little to understand what is happening.

  • How can I delete pics from photos in order to free up space on my iPod 5 with iOS 8?

In iOS 8, how can I delete pictures from photos app because I have run out of space, I need to delete at least 6 GB of pics.  I deleted many purchased apps but it did not restore space.  When I connect to iTunes it shows about 4 GB's allocated to documents & Data.  I do not have any documents or data , also it shows a couple of GB's allocated to "other"  I checked everything on the iPod and the only thing I can see using all my space is the pictures.  Almost 12 GB's of space.  I have all the videos and pics backed to iPhoto library on my iMac.  The trash can is disabled on iPod, but enabled on iPhone and iPad.  Why is the delete/trash can feature disable on my iopd?  I need to delete the videos and a lot of pics.

Were the photos synced to the iPod?
If so you have to unsync them or use a third-party computer program like TouchCopy or PhoneView
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

  • Can't delete pics or vids labeled "Instant Upload" (I believe a Google+ feature?)

There's no option to delete these pics and vids.  I believe this is a Google+ thing - there's a symbol in the bottom left corner that looks kinda like the chrome symbol so I think it's Google+.  In a minute I'm going to try to delete them IN Google+ on my computer, but I'm really annoyed that they can't be deleted from the phone directly.  Unless there is a way and I just don't know it?

You can turn off the Google+ photo sync in your settings within Gmail sync options. How to remove the albums in the data on the phone, is more unsure for me. I'm not willing to experiment with the phone at this time. I think clearing the cache or data in the Gallery application will force a resync of all the photos on the phone synced with the phone. If you do this after turning off the Google+ photos sync, it shouldn't add those albums again.

  • Can't delete pic - will let me edit but only if I duplicate the pic first

I want to delete a photo from my iPhone 6. When I click on the photo it will give me the option to edit (there is no trash or option to delete) but when I try to delete it, I get a message: "You can not edit this pic. Would you like to duplicate it and edit the copy?

I'm guessing that Finder keeps .trash open to know wether or not files have been added to it and update the Dock icon, right? No.
The visible 'Trash' you see in the finder is the union of all your trash folders. Each volume (potentially) contains a /.Trashes/ folder at its root level. Within that there are folders with UIDs as their name, 501 being the first 'normal user' and 0 being root. Your "/.Trashes/502" means you were booted from another volume at some time. However, that trash folder is empty, as you correctly deduced.
Your "123 bytes .. /Users/name/.Trash" is not empty, however, because of the size. "123" is not a valid size, either (must be a multiple of 34). So you have directory problems on your hard disk—you need to fix that with Disk Repair, from Disk Utility while booted from your Install disk: see Using Disk Utility and fsck to resolve startup issues or perform disk maintenance.
You will probably see an "Invalid Link Count" message, hopefully this is not so serious that Disk Utility can't repair it, but let us know.

  • How to delete pics from LR ext. hard drive within program.

I  can't delete pics from disk.  Error say finder doesn not support the volume. Using ext. hard drive and not in collection. New macbook pro with LR 4.  Never experienced this problem on PC with LR 3.  It appears this is a problem for other users.  Has anyone founds a solution??

Thus must be a pure Mac-Finder/permissions problem.
In LR, as you corrctly assume, when you are in a folder (rather than a collection), you can hit the delete-key for any image, and you will get the dialog box asking for just removing from catalog or executing a physical deletion also in your operating system.
So I would continue any further troubleshooting in Mac Finder.
If Finder would not support the volume of the external hard disk (due to wrong formatting for Mac?), how can the image be read then?
If only deletion is denied, it might be a permissions problem.

  • My imessages have been hacked and recovery email changed and I can't delete it! (with pic)

My iMessages have been hacked and the hacker entered his email as the recovery email with security questions I can't answer. I contacted Apple support and went through the 24 hour process of changing my info so that I could get into the account, but his email address is still the recovery address and it does not give me the option to delete it. I've added alternate emails that can be deleted, but it will not let me change or delete the recovery email. I can change phones and passwords a million times, but if he can just recover my password what am I supposed to do? I have turned iMessage off on my phone (as well as the gps) but I would really like help in deleting that recovery email if anyone has any bright ideas! The pic below shows the only place in all of the settings that his email address shows up anywhere! Any help is very very very appreciated.

    Hi,
I don't think that can be solved by any advice the regular posters could post here.
I would go back to Apple and explain the situation (again).
I would also consider closing the account (Apple rarely seem to do this as accounts are never deleted but just closed).
I understand this may cause issues for things purchased in iTunes and the App Store which my include Restoring the OS at some point.

Click here, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and then run the 10.6.8 combo updater.

  • I want to delete a few contacts, apps, pics etc from my iphone, but when I delete and connect to my laptop they sync and come back again. How can I delete those items and not get them back when I connect my iphone to my laptop?

I want to delete a few contacts, apps, pics etc from my iphone, but when I delete and connect to my laptop they sync and come back again. How can I delete those items and not get them back when I connect my iphone to my laptop?
Also where exactly on the laptop is teh data stored.
    Thank you!!

go to 'Edit' in the menu bar. Then choose 'Preferences'.
you'll see a pop-up and there's a tab called 'Devices' there. If you click that, you will be able to check a box that says 'prevent automatic syncing for iPods, iPads and iPhones' or something like that.
    Hope this helps
NB: if you don't even see the menu bar that has options like 'File, Edit, View, etc', first click the black/white square button on the top left of your screen, and then click 'show menu bar'. It should pop right up.
    Good luck

  • I don't have space on iPhone and iPad anymore.. So I bought 10GB on iCloud and backup both electronics. So what I wanna know is can I delete my apps and pics in order to get more space on my devices

I don't have space on my iPhone and iPad anymore.. So I bought 10GB on iCloud and backup both devices. So what I wanna know is can I delete my apps and pics in order to get more space on my devices?

You can delete apps (which will also delete their content), but they will only be redownloadable whilst they remain in your country's store - none of your iTunes downloads (apps, music, ibooks etc) use any of your iCloud storage, iCloud is for your backups (e.g. app's content, camera roll photos, messages, homescreen layout).
To delete an app, press and hold any of the apps and after a couple of seconds or so they should start to shake. Then press the 'x' in the left corner to delete the ones that you don't want, and when you've finished deleting press the home button so as to stop the shaking. If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded (you can't delete built-in apps) then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'
You can delete photos from your iPad, but if you want them back then you should copy them to your computer first.

You can also copy your downloads (apps, music, films etc) to your computer's iTunes by connecting your iPad and/or iPhone to it and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.

i have videos in my pic on 4s which i can't delete i can add or email but no delete

You cannot delete Photos or videos that are synced from your computer.  You have to delete it from your Synced folder on your PC then sync with your phone.  iTunes will then remove it from you phone.
For video that is in the camera roll, your can delete it anytime.

  • I've uploaded my pics to my PC but now I can't delete them from the iPad, the little trash can does NOT appear, PLEASE HELP I have over 6000 photos I need to delete

I've uploaded my pics to my PC but now I can't delete them from the iPad, PLEASE HELP the little trash can does NOT appear

That's because you can't delete it directly from the phone.
Since you synced not imported those pictures to your iphone using iTunes, you will need to do the opposite and unsync the pictures, in order to remove it from your phone.

  • Can I delete photos on my iPhone or iPad after they are on my iCloud? How do I retrieve pics from iCloud?

Can I delete pictures off my device once I have pics on my photo stream? How do I pull them from iCloud once they are deleted?
    Thanks!!!

Yes.  To back up your photos, save them to your computer while they were in the camera roll, as explained here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  You will get an option to delete them from your device after they are imported.
If you have photo stream photos that you need to back up, save them from your my photo stream album to your camera roll.  Then they can be imported too.

  • How can I delete my user pic under 10.6?

    Hi there,
I want to delete my user pic. This was possible easily before 10.5 with the NetInfo Manager (if I remember correctly). On my actual system I can't find a way to delete the user pic. So I would be happy if you could give me a hint how to do that.
(A workaround would be to use a monochrome user pic, but this results in pixels in Mail-Printouts also. So this is not a solution I would prefer. I would delete the pic completely.)
    Thanks in advance.

AFAIK you can't delete it altogether, you have to use one of the provided ones or your own. Probably you are aware that the picture isn't sent with outgoing mail: but if your concern is to keep it off printouts, you could replace it with a plain white square.
