Can't delete Quicktime

I loaded Itunes and the Nano software onto our Dell on Chirstmas morning and everything seemed OK. We loaded serveral CDs just fine. I think my daughter removed the Nano without "ejecting" it. The end result is that something is corrupted with the install. I have tried everything to delete Itunes and Quicktime and start the Nano installation fresh. I have done a system restore 4 times going way back to 12/24, I have done a "Safe Mode" Remove program on Quicktime and it gives me an Error 1719. I am out of ideas except to pay big bucks to Dell for tech support. Can anyone help me?
Thanks so much! L
Nano   Windows XP

I tried the add/remove on Quicktime and it gives me a message that "the following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallable log file". I tried removing Quicktime in safe mode and got an Error 1719. I think I need to uninstall Quicktime before I install Itunes. The 3 or 4 times I tried to install on my system after I restored it the Itunes failed to install and I got the message that windows was quiting the app because it failed. I'm still unable to get this working! I also disabled my Norton software because I know that often causes issues.

• Can I delete Quicktime 10

Since I have migrated to Leopard and I am using Quicktime Pro 7.6.6 is there any reason to keep Quicktime X player there at all ? It plays back poorly, it's got controls stuck over the picture, , it can't export, you can't edit, VLC makes it look like some hacked together , unsupported cheap player program from the late 90's. It was hate from first sight, just like spotlight. I would love to just toss it in the trash and not look back. If I do will it take down some obscure frameworks bit that will trash the system ?

All I want to know is if I delete it will I lose something like a codec or something.
No, you will not lose any codecs. It's possible, though, that you may discover problems down the road; not having deleted in on my system (seeing no good reason to do so) I haven't done any testing. Delete it if you wish, though I'd suggest backing it up first so you can easily put it back should you find you need it.
It's not going to force me to buy other pro apps by disabling applications.
Apple hasn't disabled anything. They just do not at this time have a Pro version of QuickTime Player X. You're free to continue to use QuickTime Player 7 if that better fits your needs.
Why do I need DVD player?
DVD Player is the software Apple has provided with their systems for playing DVD movies. If you have something else that works, by all means you're free to use it. Many people are quite fine with DVD Player and would not want to have to look for some third-party app for that function.
Regards.

• I accidentally deleted QuickTime from my computer. Then I did a system restore and retrieved it. Now Itunes can't find QuickTime and will not open. Is there a fix for this without my Ipod?

I accidently deleted QuickTime from my computer. Then I did a system restore and retrieved the program. Now Itunes can't find QuickTime and will not open.Is there a eazy fix for this without using my Ipod? Ihave 6K songs in Itunes that I can't get to.
Thank You

Hmmm. There's a couple of things that might be going on with that one.
Let's try an uninstall and reinstall of QuickTime first.
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Select "QuickTime", click "Change" and then click "Remove".
If you're using & or Vista, head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select QuickTime, and then click "Uninstall".
You can get QuickTime back either via Apple Software Update (in your Start menu go "All Programs > Apple Software Update" ... QuickTime should appear in the "New Programs" section), or by downloading a QuickTimeInstaller.exe from the following location:

• Deleted QuickTime 10 so I could get QT7 Pro, but now I can't reinstall ANY version of QuickTime.

I purchased & tried installing QuickTime 7 Pro on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. I already had QuickTime version 10. The instructions said I needed to download QT7, but it wouldn't install. So I tried deleting QT10 by moving it to the trash & emptying it. WIth that gone, I downloaded & installed QT&, but it wouldn't show up in the Applications folder, even after it said it was successfully installed. I even tried installing it from the DVD that came with my computer. Once I did get it to show up, the icon was different; it was like a notepad & a paint brush or something, but it wouldn't do anything. When I double-clicked on it, it would appear, then instantly disappear. Next, I tried copying a working version from another computer to my MacBook. Now, the QT7 icon is right, but it still won't open. What do I do now? I don't even care about QT Pro now; I can't even WATCH videos on my laptop. The QT7 icon is in my Applications folder & I was able to drag the icon to my dock, but it immediately closes/disappears when I try to open it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get QuickTime working again on my computer? Thanks in advance!

You've messed things up by deleting QuickTime X and trying to install the wrong version of QuickTime Player on your Snow Leopard machine.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
QuickTime Player 7.6.6 installs in the Utilities folder and QuickTime X is installed in the HD/Applications folder.
You can run two versions of QuickTime in Snow Leopard and Lion.
Delete the wrong one from the Applications folder and open QuickTime Player 7 from the Utilities (after the download and install) to enter your registration.

• Deleted quicktime x, now I cant download quicktime 7! Can anybody help me

I deleted quicktime x, I'm a video editor and a friend told me not to bother with it. Now I cant download quicktime 7 because it's saying that Quicktime x is already installed! When I try to search for any old remaining quicktime x files to delete, I can't find any. I'm on a deadline, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

have you trashed the com.apple.QuicktimePlayerX.plist in home/library/preferences ?
In fact, before trashing, just move it to your desktop, keep it and if that does not work, do the same with your com.apple.quicktime.plist (you may find one on the same folder, and there may be another one in your startupdisk/library/preferences.
This is always a good solution before deleting anything for good, as you can see if everything works normally (if not, just move the plists back into their respective positions one by one).

• Can't uninstall / delete quicktime

I've been trying to delete quicktime to re-install it and itunes as itunes stopped working ( I couldn't open it at all). a reinstall didn't work, coming up with error code 2330, and when trying to uninstall quicktime it said could not delete zh_CN.lproj. I've tried both uninstalling and manually deleting, and have deleted all except this folder. when I try to open it, it says C drive requires formating (which I can't do without losing all the content). Help! I'd be really grateful if someone more computer literate than me has any ideas. Katie

This error message usually indiactes a corrupt file, try running chkdsk.
You can do this from My computer.
Right click on your C: drive, select properties>>tools>>Error checking.
It starts after a reboot, and takes a while so do it when you don't need access to your PC.
Once you have done that, try a cleanup and reinstall as follows:
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

• Can't open / delete QuickTime

I keep getting the following message everytime I try to open quicktime, Quicktime failed to initialize with Error # -2095'.
I have tried to delete quicktime but get this message:
'The following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallation log file. C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTime\Uninstall.log'.
I think because of this I can't access iTunes as when I click on this it says that iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Any ideas?

• I received an ipod touch 5th gen for Christmas.  The first songs i've downloaded and synced with my touch have created ghost songs.  They are only on my computer in itunes once but appear on my ipod twice, one copy that won't play.  I can't delete them

The first songs i've downloaded and synced with my new touch have created ghost songs.  They are only on my computer in itunes once but appear on my ipod twice, one copy that won't play.  I can't delete them.  I've tried unticking all the music that was on the ipod via itunes and re-syncing, which in theory should delete all music from my ipod.  It does except for the 5 ghost songs.   So at present I have no music on ipod except the 5 ghost songs.   Has anyone got any ideas how I can get rid of these?
I had no problems with my ipod touch 4th, which I had for years.   Any help would be great.

• Problems with QT file I can't delete -so can't upgrade itunes?

I am running Windows XP and have been trying to upgrade my i-tunes for over a month. The installation fails when I get this message: "Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTimeVR.qtx. Verify that you have access to that directory." I beleive error is caused by fragment of previous version of QuickTIme that I can't delete. I earlier uninstalled QT, but folder is still in Program listing, containing 1 file which is empty. Yet, I can't delete the file because computer tells me that the file directory is not empty.
I have run diskclean, cclean, tried deleting manually all QT files after running search of c drive, & searched forums for solutions. Using rmdir doesn't work because it either doesn't see QT file or views it as corrupted. I am the only user on this machine - there is not an "administrator" who is controlling the machine.
Any and all ideas would be appreciated!

that's certainly sounding like a damaged file.
try running a chkdsk over the C drive:

does that find/repair any damage? if so, will the file allow you to delete it afterwards?

Starting your Mac in "Safe Mode" (see below) will load only Apple-provided kernel extensions. Observing its perfomance in that mode will be instructive.
The problems you describe are likely to have been caused by garbage software of which "TechTool Pro" is only one example. That system has been altered from its factory configuration through the installation of several third party system modifications, any one of which can cause poor performance. Interaction between two or more is another possibility. Running a torrent client is another way of inviting malware intrusion.
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

• Can't install iTunes 6.0.2.23 and can't uninstall QuickTime

help!!! i can't uninstall quicktime 7.0.2 (tried from control panel), which was included in my pc when i bought it, in order to install the newest version of itunes/quicktime. i would try lorraine's fix but can't even manually uninstall qt. got an error message "cannot delet file: cannot read from source file or disk". old version of itunes is gone, couldn't reinstall qt 7.0.2 (to try & repair), and remove apple itunes from NIS. i'd be grateful for any help.

HELP!!! this is driving me crazy...does anybody know how to fix this problem. how do i uninstall old version of QT in order to upgrade to the stand alone QuickTime and newest version of iTunes? I've already tried to manually delete the QT files and folders but got an error message. This totally *****! Both Apple & Windows support are pointing to each other for fixes.

• My itunes is not working correctly. can i delete and reinstall without losing my music

My itunes is not working correctly. can i delete and reinstall without losing   music?

Hi there,
You may find the article below helpful.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. If you're unsure how to backup, see iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.

• DELETED QUICKTIME AND NOW iTUNES wont work

I recently had to delete quicktime to install other software for my cell phone. After completeing the download and deciding it unworthy of my attention. I wanted to put quicktime back on. when i go to download the software back on the the computer it says:
The plugin did not initialize properly
Also when i click the short-cut for iTunes this pops up:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I've contacted customer service and they instructed me to delete iTunes and Quicktime and re-download them. I still cannot access iTunes.
thankya kindly,

Here's what worked for other users; perhaps it will work for you (I've never had this problem so I can't say for sure):
1) Uninstall QuickTime from the Add/Remove Programs control panel. If you have difficulties, try Microsoft's Installer Cleanup Utility.
2) Clean up the Windows registry with http://www.ccleaner.com/ (freeware)
3) Restart your system.
4) Delete the QuickTime folder
5) Reinstall QT from the standalone installer.
Hope this helps.
