Can't Delete/Sign Out Of Amended Apple ID

Hi Folks,
Bit of a conundrum. I have/had an Apple ID which was an email address which no longer exists so I signed in to my Apple ID online and changed the ID to a new email address. I've just got an iPhone 6 and successfully transferred (via back up and restore) from previous iPhone 5. The problem I have is that the new phone is assuming the older (now incorrect) Apple ID in the iCloud features. This is really frustrating as I amended my Apple ID before I configured the iPhone 6. Now I can't sign out or therefore delete this ID so that I can re-sign in with what it is now called as it keeps me to enter the password...which it suddenly keeps insisting is incorrect!!!
Here's the sequence of events;
Logged into My Apple ID with old email address and password
Changed Apple ID to new email address - did not change password
Verified new address via confirmation email
Successfully configured new iPhone 6 using Restore from Backup
Started receiving prompts to enter password.
Password Incorrect
Noticed iCloud etc was referring to 'old' Apple ID
Tried signing out of Apple ID but can't because I'm apparently entering incorrect password.
So I'm stuck in this endless loop. I can't reset the password because the email address (which was the original Apple ID name) no longer exists. I've even tried to reset the iPhone 6 and start again...but...you guessed it, I need to enter the password for the 'old' Apple ID. It's worth noting that I did manage to successfully enter the amended (new) ID into Settings/iTunes and App Store - as that just let me sign out without prompting me to enter any passwords. I then simply signed back in again with the amended details using 'Use Existing Apple ID'. Unfortunately this isn't possible for iCloud/Facetime/Message etc.
In short, how do I delete an Apple ID without the password?

Many thanks for your help. I changed the ID back to the original and reset the password, which allowed me to sign out/in on my iPhone 6. Unfortunately the interface within "My Apple ID" is treating the Apple ID and Primary Email Address as the same thing, therefore in order to verify the account I have to have access to an email that I can't access (see screenshot below). I was hoping that I could configure the primary email to something different that I could access, but alas that doesn't seem to be the case. I have an alternative email in there but it won't send the initial verification to it.
Unless Apple have a way of trashing the @utvinternet.com email for me, I might have to consider creating a new Apple ID, but that obviously brings it's own set of problems like losing Contacts etc. I also have an @icloud.com email which I would would be worried about losing in case it's allied to this existing Apple ID and can't be used by a new Apple ID.
Any plan Bs?!

    hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

    Then Sign In using the preferred Apple ID.

    Hi!
    I have just tried to backup and update my iphone to iOS 5.1. The backup seems to have worked but when it came to restoring the iphone, I think the hard disk ran out of space and so it failed. I saw this and so I freed up around 3Gb of disk space and I tried it again. It again failed. Again I noticed that there was no space left on the hard disk. I assumed that to continue the restore it probably won't need that much more space (as it had already done most of the work) so I freed up a few more Gb.
    Again it failed. When it fails, itunes leaves the partially restored elements on my hard disk meaning that my 'Apple Computer' folder is now 28Gb!! I cannot afford to delete anything else from the hard disk. I am using a PC by the way. I have noticed that in the folder 'Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup' has 5 folders in it which is the same amount that I tried to restore the iphone (before the last restore attempt there were 4 folders). These folders amount to 20Gb. From this I am assuming that the actual backup that I made is infact in 'Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Backups'.
    Can I delete the folders in 'MobileSync\Backup'? This would free up 20Gb of disk space giving me enough to properly restore (in theory!).

    Delete iOS backups this way: iTunes>Preferences>Devices...select the backup/backups...hit delete. Do not mess with your backup folder.

    I have internet connection, and I can access itunes on my computer.  in settings - itunes and app store - I signed out of my apple id and tried to sign in again.  my Ipad2 says "cannot connect to itunes store" and the ok button.  my ipad just sits after I enter my apple id and password and nothing happens.

    As I'm a fellow user I don't know when it might be fixed, but you could check that page occasionally to see when it's back up.

    That email address is still a valid Apple ID. If you do not remember the passcode, sign onto Manage your Apple ID (Apple - My Apple ID) with that email address, and then click on Reset Password. You will be asked to answer your Security Questions in order to reset the password. If you do not remember the answers to your Security Questions, contact Apple Support to reset them for you:

    If you mean the 'charge' when updating your card's details on your account then that is only temporary, your card issuer should remove it after a few days or so. It's applied to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account.

    If you want to remove your card's details then if you are doing it on your iPad try tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and select 'View Apple ID' on the popup - that should give you a payments link on your account's page. Or on your computer's iTunes you should be able to edit your payment info by going into the Store > View Account menu option and logging into your account, and on your account's details page there should also be a payment link.

    Yes, you can just log out of iCloud on the mini (Settings>iCloud> Sign out) and nothing will be affected as long as the iPad is not restored from any backup after that. Though if you're giving her the iPad I would highly recommend moving the pictures to your iPad (via this page) so that the mini can be reset and set up under your daughters ID to avoid Activation Lock in the future.

    Apple IDs (which are used to establish various types of accounts like icloud and itunes store) cannot be permanently deleted, nor can the accounts.  Just don't use the account in question if you don't want it.
    If this is about icloud, then on her ipad, Go to Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account.  In the future she can always log back in.  If she needs to do this, then to deal with a forgotten password...
