Can't. Delete. Slideshow.....

Hey You All, I've a minor pet peeve that's been with me for a long time. In my iPhoto there are 4 slideshows. I don't know what's in said slideshows because every time I try to open (or more often, delete) them, iPhoto quits. Every single time. I've sent a few reports to Apple to I've done my duty but do you folks any idea of what I can do to get rid of them?
Also, I just noticed there is an iPhoto 6 out. I know that this is an iPhoto5 discussion group but does anyone have any info about how more stable 6 is?
Thanks.
Brian

Brian:
Although iPHoto 6 is, IMO, much better than V5 I don't think converting to it would fix your situation. I think you may have a damaged database file.
First make a backup copy of the Library.iPhoto file. Then launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the option regarding the database. See if that will let you delete the slideshow.
If that doesn't work, try removing the photos from the slideshow one by one. If one of the files causes iPhoto to crash then you can try removing it from the library entirely.
If you're still having problems, try using iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library. It creates a new library by copying what it needs from the old one, leaving the old one untouched. iPLM often succeeds where the regular rebuild does not. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 2-3 hours so plan ahead.
NOTE: It's wise to make frequent backups of the Library.iPhoto file as that contains all of your library information and can restore your library if you ever get the dreaded gray window with "!" in the middle.

  • How can i delete the masters of iPhoto without losing my photos

Mac Book Pro (Mid 2012) 13 inches
256 Solid State Start up Insert in DVD Drive
1T Hard Drive in reg slot
    16 GB Ram
    Mavericks 10.9.4
    iphoto 9.5.1
I am currently keeping my iPhoto library on my 256 SS Main Drive of my MacBook Pro.
How can I delete the masters of iPhoto without losing my photos in the main iPhoto display library and all their masters and edits.
I take loads of photos and import them and then will keep only 5% of the ones that I import.  As a result I have a masters folder of over 50GB and actual photos that take up less that 5GD.  Is it possible to delete the master folder without losing all the photos and without having to pain stakingly go through every folder and pick out from literally hundreds the ones that i kept and edited.  How do I reduce the size of the masters just down to the ones that I have kept and not every single photo and video that I imported in the history of my iPhoto experience.
If I delete the master folder will all the photos and their edits be deleted.
If so, is there a way to just delete the masters that are no longer in the iPhoto library, while keeping the masters and edits of the ones that I clearly want to keep because they are the ones that I did keep.
Why do they keep the masters of photos that I clearly deleted and emptied the trash on.
I like to maximize space and this would help a lot to clear up for me.  Thank you.

All the 5000 photos that reappeared after repair today were from my canada mega event, but for some reason it did not do it for all the other mega events.  It is a start but not complete.
Try the rebuild to recover more lost photos.
If "rebuild" with iPhoto does not recover more lost photos, rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager as described by Old Toad in this thread, but rebuilding with iPhoto Library manager will not recover your projects like cards, bilks, slideshows.
Re: iPhoto glitch with retained masters https://discussions.apple.com/message/26354337#26354337
Mostly the way I organize all my photos is that I make a folder for each country I visit.  i.e. New Zealand Folder, Canada Folder, India Folder; and at the same time, any photos that I import I delete directly from new imports and just keep the ones i want and then i go up to events and move the latest imported event into a mega event for that country and so they all get joined in a sense.
As a workaround, merge the events right after importing, before you start deleting photos.  And empty the trash always before merging projects.
You might consider to use albums instead of events for your country lists.   I simply use the events as basic containers. One event for each day of shooting photos. I found, that smart albums and searches are quicker in iPhoto and Aperture, if the events are smaller, also browsing is easier, if the events are not so large.
You can merge albums and remove photos from albums without the problems mentioned above.

  • I can't delete photos in iPhoto?

I open an event and it displays all of the photos in that event. I can't delete any of the photos in any event. If I go to the photos tab to look at all the photos, I can't delete them there either. So I right mouse click on the iPhoto library icon (before I open iPhoto) to show the package contents and I try to delete them from the "origionals" folder and they delelte from there, but when I open iPhoto, they are still there. Any ideas?
    thanks,
    C

It's often best to ask for assistance before you make things more difficult.
Your Library is corrupted - your actions in the Library package go a long way to explain this.
I am in the process of taking the two folders in the iPhoto package content that have all of my photos and copying them over to another drive and then hopefully trying to start a new iPhoto library and delete the current one.
You'll lose any metadata you have added and end up with duplicates.
    A better way:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I try to open I photo and  I get the message, your iPhoto library is damaged...please restore from backup. But i din't made backup copy. How can i delete previous library and work wrom the new one?

I try to open I photo and  I get the message, your iPhoto library is damaged...please restore from backup. But i din't made backup copy. How can i delete previous library and work wrom the new one?

Try this (assuming you're using iPhoto 12): make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
      Fix #1
delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
    Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How can I delete the video tracks from an iDVD project?

I try to use "canc" botton: the video track is deleted on menu, but when I try to insert a new video, iDVD (7.1.2) alert me:  "The maximum number of tracks (presentations and movies) is 99. You can not create other tracks."
Then, how can I delete the video tracks (or presentations) really?
    Help me, please!

    Hi
What is Your original material ?
Did You create Your movie in iMovie/FinalCut ?
iDVD is limited to 99 Chapters (in a movie) or 99 Photos in a SlideShow.
What are You trying to create ?

  • Can't delete images when importing from camera

I use Nikon Transfer to import images from my digital cameras but now I can't delete the images from the card once transferred. I've also tried Image capture but Delte is greyed out. It seems like a Permissions thing but I'm not sure how to check.
    thanks

What he says is +"you want the image being shown to be exactly sized to your screen. Images from almost all modern cameras are much larger in pixel dimensions than your Mac's display, so they will be interpolated down to fit. When they are resized on the fly through interpolation they never look as crisp or pristine."+
The title of the piece is +"Resize Images for iPhoto Slideshows".+ He is talking about you resizing photos before you import so they will match the screen size during the display of a slide show on the screen - not iPhoto changing anything during the import of the photo but during the display of it - This is a bit like the cropping during printing questions - if you want to control exactly have is being shown (or printed) rather than use a generalized scheme to make photos fit a non native size then you much do the changes yourself
I'm sure that he is correct but since I use iPhoto as a photo library manager which lets me show quick and easy slideshows, I have no problem - *my original, unaltered photos are there in iPhoto* and available for use as I see fit - the degree of modification that takes place in the display of a slideshow has never even been noticeable to me - but then I do not see iPhoto as a single purpose slide show viewer - in fact that is a very minor feature for me

  • How can i delete images from iPhoto?

I can not delete images from iphoto. When I try to move pictures to the trash they do not move, and if I try to delete them by pressing "right click> Trash" they do not move! pretty much the only way I can delete pictures from iphoto is to delete the library.
Can anyone help me? I'm about to permanently delete iphoto from my macbook pro.
    it is nerve-wracking!

Where are you trying to move these photos from?  The following are the key combinations for moving from different entities in the library:
Deleting Photos from an iPhoto Library:
1 - from the Event or Photos mode: select the photo(s) and use the Delete key to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the iPhoto Trash bin as follows:
2 - from an album, smart album, book, slideshow, card, etc: select the photo(s) and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move the photos to the trash bin.  Then empty the trash bin as above.
If none of the above work try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem persists in the new library make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

I have two apple I.D., one with the .me email address I want, how can I delete it so that I can use that .me address on my other account
Or is it possible to transfer the purchases (apps) to my new .me account so that I can re-download them in the future without having to switch accounts?

You can't do this, and you can't transfer purchases between accounts. There is no conflict about using one ID for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match (the ID you've been using for iTunes) and using the other ID for iCloud.

  • How can I delete an iTunes account that has been deactivated?

I deleted an old Apple ID with the help of a call to Apple Support.  However, my iphone is still trying to use the old ID.  How do I log out of the old ID and into the new?  Or, how can I delete the old ID when it has already been deactivated?  (Cannot delete with phone)

Only iTunes Support can potentially delete an account (which would also delete any purchase history for it, so you would no longer be able to authorise that content on a computer, redownload it, and download updates to its apps) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
Or you could just remove any personal info from it (e.g. payment details if you have any on it) and stop using it

How can I delete my itunes store account

At the moment you can't - just remove any personal info from it (e.g. credit card details) and stop using it. If you purchased any content from Apple with it (music, films, apps etc) then you will need to remember the account id and password in case you ever want authorise it so as to use it on a different computer (or the same computer if, for exampel, you upgrade the OS)

  • How can I delete an old iCloud account for which I do not remember the password?  The email address linked to that account is no longer active.

The email linked to that account is no longer active.  How can I delete this old account and use a new one?

Although your profile says you're running iOS 5.1.1 it sounds like you're running iOS 7 (otherwise you would not need your password to delete the old account).  Assuming that's true, and your iCloud ID has changed but you need to delete the old account in order to change to your new one, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I'm able to use the new one even tho the old one is there? But can't delete the old one because it's frayed out n can't tap on it to change it to the new one

You will need to use that old Apple ID and password to update any apps you purchased using that account. So you will either need to recover that Apple ID, which if you forgot the password you should be able to reset here:
    http://iforgot.apple.com
or you will need to delete all those apps and repurchase them using your current Apple ID.
