Can't delete smart folder

Simple question: How do I get rid of a smart folder? I created one which I no longer need but it keeps coming back to the finder every time I trash it. I move it to the trash, empty the trash, and when I re-open the finder, there it is again.

  • How to view and or delete smart folder in finder sidebar

Sounds easy, but I am having a problem. I recently had my hard drive replaced at the genius bar. I have a smart File on the finder side bar that I can not open or delete. When I click on the file I get the message "the volume for (name of file) cannot be found. I tried using both "spotlight" & "the finder go to" locate this smart folder to no avail. I cannot remember when I created this file but I had labeled it appleworks 6 manual.. I don't ever remember using this smart file, I may have just created it without ever putting anything in it. So how do I open it or just plain delete it. I can remove it from the side board but it just comes back. I also went to /volumes which took me to the hard drive, but when I looked at all the files I couldn't find a smart file with this label. Any suggestion? Thanks Paula

I made another smart folder. I wanted to see if I could get the options with the control key. My test folder worked fine and I was able to get the options. I could delete the test folder without any problems. If it is that I have an Appleworks manual stored in an image file, then how could I find the image file? And if I did find it, what would I do to it, so I could delete this smart folder that I set up? I did a spotlight search for image file, but I couldn't find anything. I also searched appleworks manual and I did find a "getting started with appleworks 6 document" with an path of '/application/appleworks (U.S. English) Applework 6 documentation ... when I click on it it opens in preview.. but that manual is stored in my appleworks in applications, so I don't think it is related to the smart folder in the finder sidebar. If I did manage to close or delete the image file that was related to this folder, does that mean I'm just stick with this smart folder that I can't delete on my finder sidebar?

  • I can't delete a more than 10 bookmarks at a time, I can't delete bookmarks folder

    Firefox 25, Mac 10.8
If I try to delete more than 10 bookmarks at a time or a folder with bookmarks in it, FF hangs, then says there's a script that isn't running properly & do I want to continue or stop the script - I've tried continuing but it just hangs again, and I've tried stopping the script but it still hangs..
I've restarted FF, turned off Sync, turned on Sync.
I tried exporting my bookmarks to html, to edit them in a file then re-import them, but the file was incomplete - it did not contain all the folder in My Bookmarks.
Deleting bookmarks has been a pain ever since Sync was introduced, and Firefox doesn't have an official iOS app and the 3rd party ones don't work consistently, so I don't get much use from sync

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear in stating my problem.
I understand how to delete both bookmarks and folders containing bookmarks according to the instructions, and have done so easily in the past.
But, since update to FF25 I haven't been able to delete a folder with bookmarks in it or more than 10-12 bookmarks at a time.
I resolved the issue by quitting FF, importing my bookmarks into Chrome, using Chrome's import as FF also was not exporting a complete bookmark list. I cleared out some duplicates in Chrome, exported bookmarks from Chrome to an html file, removed the places sqlite file from my profile, deleted all FF bookmarks, and imported the bookmarks html file into FF, which created a new & functional places sqlite file with the same set of bookmarks as at the beginning. I can only think the places file was corrupted somehow during the update as that was the only file I had to delete to fix the issue - I can now move & delete folders with hundreds of bookmarks in them and delete as many bookmarks as needed at one time.
"There is no way to select more than one item at a time in the right pane in the mac environnement. " (sic)
I think you mean there is no way to delete more than 1 item at a time in the LEFT panel, the list of folders, not in the right panel, the list of bookmarks and the contents (bookmarks) of subfolders.

  • Can't Delete Empty Folder in Deleted Items

Running Outlook 2013 on a Windows 8.1 machine. Exchange 2010 on SBS 2011 platform.
I have an empty folder within the deleted items folder. I can manually delete all messages within the deleted items but I cannot get that empty sub folder deleted. My permissions are set to "owner". I'm getting a message that says, "outlook
is synchronizing local changes made to items in this folder. You cannot remove this folder until the synchronization with the server is complete". I've done shift+F9 in both the deleted items and the sub folder and that hasn't helped.
    Please advise.

    Hello,
I recommend you check if owa has the issue. If the issue doesn't occur on owa, the issue may be related to outlook.
I find a thread that has similar error for your reference.

  • Can't delete Apple folder in Common Files

I went to the Genius Bar today.  They were not able to solve my problem but they did a full restart of my iPod and told me to reinstall iTunes on my home computer.
Before reinstalling iTunes, I followed Apple's instructions for deleting all Apple software on my computer (Windows 7).  However, I have been unable to delete the Apple folder in the Common Files folder.
I searched for hours online for solutions to deleting this file.  It looks like several people have had this problem and several suggestions have been made  but nothing has worked for me.
Among the things I have tried are stopping and restarting explorer.exe.  I also downloaded Byetunes but it looks like I can only delete one file at a time and there must be hundreds of files in this folder.  This is madness.
I would deeply appreciate as complete a list as possible of ways to delete this file.
It should not be this hard to find out how to delete a file!
    Thank you.

Followed the procedures as layed out in Apple Support online, but now I still can't delete the "Apple" folder in "Common Files" (during the 'verifying you've actually deleted iTunes' step...).
Do you have the iCloud control panel currently installed? If so, try uninstalling that. Can you do the deletion now?

If a user account is deleted and the data for that account is not deleted, it is placed there. Yes, you can delete the files there.

Got it fixed!  The Folder was set to Open With Terminal!
Maybe when you moved it over from your other system, the Open With got changed?  To change this, in your Finder, select the iPhoto library from your User/Pictures folder and do a Get Info on it Command+I.
Then change the Open With to iPhoto application!
Then from the Finder, double click the iPhoto Folder and it will be opened with iPhoto!  WALLA it worked!

  • Can not delete corrupted folder

    Hi there,
I'm using SharePoint Foundation 2010 and am having problem with one of the site collections.
It's a simple 'Team site'. The problem is that I can not delete the certain folder, which seems to be corrupted.
    Symptoms:
if I try to delete it I receive error "Access Denied", even though I use farm admin account.
if I try to 'Manage permissions', I receive error "Can not complete this action".
if I try to 'Edit Properties' (rename library) I receive error "Access Denied".
    'View Properties' works good.
Looking in WebDav, the folder doesn't exist.
if I try to create a new folder with the same name within the same root library, I receive error that folder already exists.
    Steps taken:
    1. the entire site collection was backed up (using Backup-SPSite) and restored (Restore-SPSite) to the newly-created site collection within another Web App
and content database - the corrupted folder was carried over and the issue remained the same.
    2. tried to use .NET methods to delete this folder but received error:
    $rabbit = Get-SPWeb "https://site1.sharepoint.local/BD"
    $damaged_folder = $rabbit.GetFolder("Services/Technical Team/Mit")
    attempted to delete:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> $damaged_folder.Delete()
Exception calling "Delete" with "0" argument(s): "Cannot remove file "Mit". Error Code: 16389."
attempted to move to Recycle Bin:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> $damaged_folder.Recycle()
Exception calling "Recycle" with "0" argument(s): "Cannot remove file "Mit". Error Code: 16389."
Looking at the properties of $damaged_folder, I've noticed that property 'EffectiveRawPermissions' was blank, while for the normal folder it was set to 'FullMask'
I've tried to update it but received an error:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> $damaged_folder.EffectiveRawPermissions = "FullMask"
    "EffectiveRawPermissions" is a ReadOnly property.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    I am facing the same
    problem.
I tried to delete the folder with a powershell command and with a console application. The result is :
Exception calling "Delete" with "0" argument(s): "Cannot remove file "Folder". Error Code: 16389."
    At line:1 char:77
    + [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSecurity]::RunWithElevatedPrivileges({$folder.Delete<<<< ()})
        + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [], MethodInvocationException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : DotNetMethodException
The last possibility it's maybe to remove lines on the database!
    Does anyone has triedthis solution?
    Thanks in adavance.

  • Can't delete application folder?

    To Whom It May Concern,
Last night, I installed a software just to try it out, but it was having problems running under 10.2.8, so I decided to uninstall it and load the beta instead. I loaded the beta version, but it was not performing well either. I decided to delete the folder, but I couldn't. It said, "This operation could not be completed because this item is owned by root." Please help! The computer I'm using is an iMace flat panel, superdrive, 512Mb, G4 800Mhz, 60 Gig drive. Also, I can't seem to verify, or repair permissions using Disk Utility.
    Sincerely,
    Arnold Pena

    Hello Arnold,
Of course we are speaking here of the software you just tried, not the whole "Applications" folder:
Force-deleting files or folders that refuse to let you do it as usual, can be done using such utility as TinkerTool System for example (go to section Files > Force Delete).
The best is to get rid of every hidden files it could have left on your hard drive in some cases. Use the Finder's Find (⌘F) feature to find them (search for visible AND invisible files) and drag them to the Trash, directly from the Search Results window.
If you use Tiger, Find (⌘F) won't find them all: you'll have to use EasyFind.
Delete only the files that really belong to your trial software: be careful as sometimes names are close, but may belong to your system...
(It would be easier to simply name which software was it that refused to be deleted?)
    Good luck!
    Axl

  • Can't save smart folder searches

When trying to save a smart folder search the save dialog box quickly slides down and then up without stopping to let me actually save it. Has anyone else experienced this problem and possibly know of a solution? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can edit them even more easily using Property List Editor, if you have that installed.
I tried making a smart folder with Activity Monitor running to see if I could spot anything interesting. All I noticed was that both Finder and Windowserver were more active as I created and saved a new one (and mds of course as the search was was done). So that wasn't very enlightening. The only other thing that occurs to me is perhaps something has gone wrong with the Saved Searches folder itself (it's in your home Library folder), since that is the default place to save to. I tried copying my folder to another drive, then trashed the original. When I relaunched the Finder and created a new Smart Folder the Finder had created a new Saved Searches folder. If that doesn't work either, you can trash your creation and put the original back.

  • Can you delete "Originals" folder after importing photos from iPhoto to LR3?

    Hello,
I just imported all my photos from iPhoto to LR3 by making an Alias folder (copy) of my iPhoto Originals folder. Shortly after that I received a message that my Start-up disk is nearly full, which I presume is because I duplicated my iPhoto library. I want to free up my storage and curious if it's okay to delete my iPhoto Originals folder. Or will that delete or cause problems with the Alias folder that LR3 is reading?
    Any insight would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Bill

    Bill,
I wouldn't do anything rash, if I were you. "Alias" sounds like not a real copy, but some kind of virtual copy, with just pointers to the originals. In that case, deleting the originals will leave you without any images. Try renaming one of the images in the folder you want to delete. If that image shows up in Lightroom with a "?" on its thumbnail, then you most definitely don't want to delete that folder.

  • Can I delete visualvm folder in Library?

I found this folder called "visualvm" in my library, but I wasn't sure if I should delete the folder or not in case it has system files in it. So does anyone know?
it's at the very bottom on the finder screenshot.

I run the latest fat cat (10.7.3) with Java and all the latest patches. Also have VirtualBox and Fusion. No "visualvm" to be found anywhere in the computer, starting with my ~/Library.
Does it have anything inside? Beware, may have invisible items. Open Terminal and type the following commands to be sure nothing hides in there (substitute your local spelling for "Library" between the slashes):
    cd ~/Library/visualvmls -la
Post back if anything shows up. Note that the . and  ..  directories are normal and should be there.

  • Can't delete smart mailboxes...

I have some smart mailboxes that I can't seem to delete.  I delete them, and they disappear... and then they reappear, right back in the same place.
They were created some time ago – when I was using Lion, I beleive – and I'm wondering if they are somehow corrupted.
    Any ideas?

Before getting too involved on trying to fix this, start with simple things. Disable any extensions or add ons to mail and try. You could create a new user account for testing. Log into the new user account and add the mail account there and test. If it works there, then the problem lies within your user folder. We can go from there.
You could also do some simple maintenance first. Open Disk Utility and select your boot volume. Repair permissions and restart the computer and test.
You can carry the permission repair a bit further. Disk Utility only repairs global permissions. Follow the steps here to repair User Permissions.

Before doing anything, be sure you have a backup in case problems occur.

  • I can't delete a folder in my mailbox.

I have tried to delete it on my ipad, ipod, iphone and computer, none will work. There's no emails in it, and if I do delete it, the next time I sign it it's back. • Can't delete a folder

A certain folder on my Mac has been in the trash for a while (along with a bunch of other files)... when I came to empty the trash it wouldn't. So I had to manually empty the trash by rm-ing in the Terminal until I found the folder that wouldn't delete.
What's super weird is I get no error messages (nothing in the Console either!) it just hangs. In Terminal: If I try to cd into that folder - hang. rm -r in the parent folder - hang. (Secure) Empty Trash - hang.
If I try to do much in the Finder with this folder, Finder starts to go AWOL and I have to Relaunch. Sometimes even a Relaunch doesn't work - Finder ust comes back "Application Not Responding" - so then I have to reboot.
I can live with the file not being deleted, but I'm worried that it's an indicator of bigger problems.
So what can I do to find out what's causing the problem? Has anyone else experienced this?
    I'm on Lion 10.7.1

Similar problem with Finder on my iMac only, not either of my MacBooks. All are running 10.7.1.
I haven't been able to determine exactly what triggers the Finder's 'Application not responding' message but it seems to be related to copying/moving folders. A relaunch does not work. Finder disappears altogether. Reboot is necessary.
The problem appeared only after updating to 10.7.1.
