Can't detect boot device after factory format to new HDD

First off, I have an HP Pavilion G6 that I purchased in December 2012. Yesterday I decided to get a new HDD to upgrade it and start fresh. It's a 1TB SSD+HDD hybrid by Seagate. It installed without a hitch, and I used my HP recovery CDs to do a factory format of the disk.
It finishes, reboots, but instead of rebooting to the HP Windows 8 setup screens, it goes to what looks like Windows 8 safe mode with a box containing the date, time, and it says something along the lines of "HP diagnostics driver installation" with an OK. Clicking that or not makes it disappear, and there's a command prompt bar at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
The screen changes to an HP screen that begins to install drivers. It finishes, and reboots to a black screen that says "no boot device detected, please install OS."
I ran a check of the drive and it's fine. I swapped my regular drive back in, and it loaded up fine. In fact that's what I'm using right now to type this.
What could be the problem here? The boot order was never changed in the BIOs. If it were the connector failing I doubt it would load the drive that's always been in the computer. Loading up the newly formatted drive in an external enclosure shows that Windows 8 is indeed on it, but on a 93GB partition even though the drive is 1TB.
I'm at a total dead end here and no one seems to know what to do!

BIOS can't detect boot device

Hi, I recently just put together a pc with the following specs:
motherboard: MSI P43 neo3
CPU: Core 2 duo E8400 (3.0ghz)
ram: 4gb DDRII-800
graphics card: nvidia 9800gt
power supply: 500W
HDD: IDE master (250gb)
the problem is that the bios just doesn't detect any IDE device.. i'm no computer expert.. so any suggestions?

the hdd brand is seagate
the jumper setting is set to master and connected to the master side of the IDE cable (only 1 IDE slot on motherboard).. so far i'm just trying to get it to detect the hdd so haven't connected the cd-rom yet
im pretty sure the IDE connector is connected properly and it does have power. i have tested the hdd on another computer and it detects it fine.. so im confused as hell :P

The following happens.
1. Speaker light lit (Green)
2. Phone displays a firmware upgrade page (see attachment) for a few minutes. (Doesn't seems to be upgrading, but it "saids" upgrading)
3. Saw Cisco logo with a Java Powered page.
4. The whole thing loops again and again...
I think the reason why the phone isn't booting up is because the phone needs to know where to find the configuration/firmware files from a tftp server. I do have a TFTP server, but normally I need to go in settings to change the alternative tftp server, but the thing is that now I can't even press the settings button...

How many phones were reset and upgrading at one time? What is the setting of the TFTP Maximum Serving Count (Advanced TFTP Service Parm) on each of the TFTP servers?
Sounds like too many devices trying to use TFTP at once.

I'm new to Solaris, please be patient.
I got a ultra 1 machine and tried to upgrade the hard drive. I installed an IBM 4.55 GB sca drive. When I boot this message comes up.
Boot device /sbus/espdma/csp/sd@0,0:a File and args: -F cprbooter cprboot
Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device
I did probe-scsi command it says
Unit 0 Disk TANDEM 4512-2 2626
Any help would be great. Is the hard drive not compatible with solaris? I tried a couple of other drives same result. Thanks in advance

You're trying to remove an old/small hard disc and you try to
install the new 4.5GB drive instead, is that right?
The boot-file property in the openboot prom is set to "...cprboot" because the system was suspended
(and not shutdown), before you've removed the hard disc. On power-up, the
system wants to resume from suspend state with the information saved
on the hard disc and tries to do that using the "cprboot" boot
program. (obviously this cannot work because the disc with the suspend
state data is gone). You can probably get rid of this error by
using the open boot prom commands printenv/setenv to check/correct
the boot-file property.
The other problem is the "Bad magic number in disk label" error
message, but this is just a hint that the new disc contains no
valid disk label, so you cannot boot from the new disc, yet.
This is to be expected - because the disc contains no valid data.
I'd say that you should just place you solaris installation cd into
the cdrom drive and try a 'boot cdrom' at the open boot prompt and
install a fresh copy of solaris on the new drive. Then restore
your user files from a backup (or whatever) on the new drive.

"Can't open boot device" mesage when installing Solaris 10 by cdrom

I am getting the following error message when I try to install Solaris 10 from cdrom:
"Can't open boot device."
The system I am trying to install to is a SunFire v100.
The boot command I am using is:
ok boot cdrom - nowin
I have used this cd to successfully install several other v100s without any trouble. I have tried another cd and get the same behavior. I have also tried installing another v100 and get the same error.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

When I try to boot from ISO CD via AMT I got an error message:

Settings are similar to what I made in HP 8100, 8200 etc - SOL/IDER/KVM, network access enabled

Just wanted to follow up with this as I got a response from HP. It looks like it is at least the 2.9 BIOS version that has this issue. I know that at least the 2.51 BIOS version is unaffected.

Yes, the CD-ROM drive must be jumpered as Master in order for it to be bootable.
Your G4 (PCI) should have two built-in IDE buses - one is usually assigned to the CD-ROM and Zip drives, and the other is used for hard drives. If you have the hard drive connected to the same bus as the one the CD-ROM is on, try switching the hard drive to the other bus.
Set the hard drive's jumpers as Master.
Exception - if the hard drive is a Western Digital, it may have a third position, Single, which must be used when the drive is the only device on the bus.
Note - Cable Select jumper settings will not work on a G4 (PCI).
Edit - -
Startup Manager, which is what booting with Option held down invokes, is not available on a G4 (PCI).

Firewire Target Disk Mode is limited on a G4 (PCI) - it can be the Host machine, but not the Target machine.

Relatedly, a G4 (PCI) can not boot to firewire drives, although it can use them for storage.

Formatting a new HDD

I just purchased a 500GB My Book external HDD to use exclusively for pix files. I already have a similar drive for Time Machine connected by firewire. I have the new drive connected by USB. Questions:
1. Do I need to format the new HDD before I transfer files to it?
2. I have read that picture post processing can be speeded up by creation of a scratch disk. Do I need to partition the new HDD and use one strictly for the scratch disk?
3. Would it help effieiency to transfer my picture software to the new HDD?
I really appreciate your help. I've asked these questions on a couple of photography forums but so far no replies.

Others may disagree, but you might want to try with your scratch disk assignment pointed to your external disk, but I wouldn't create a separate partition for it.
3. Would it help efficiency to transfer my picture software to the new HDD?
I'd leave that software on your boot disk.

JMF-based applet can not detect audio devices on Vista (?)

As many people reported, I encountered the same issue - CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList does not detect any audio device on IE/Vista.
Here is my testing environment:
HP XW4600, RealTek HD Audio onboard sound card,
Vista SP1 (Business, Home Premium, and Vista64)
JRE1.5.0_16, JMF2.1.1e
A recording Applet runs in IE7 (which works fine on XP and its Java application version always works fine on Vista)
I have tried a number of things without success:
1)Use different audio formats as the input parameter for getDeviceList
2)Try CaptureDeviceManager.getDevice(new String("DirectSoundCapture"))
3)CaptureDeviceInfo info = new CaptureDeviceInfo(com.sun.media.protocol.dsound.DataSource.NAME,new MediaLocator("dsound://"),null);
4) Vector devices = (Vector) CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(null).clone();
5)Uncheck UAC(Vista User Access Control)
6)Set IE settings least restrictive
7)Try signed or unsigned recording Applet
8)Pack the recording Applet to a jar and deploy to JRE\lib\ext
9)Run JMFInit and copy the files in JMF\Lib to System32 folder
On a few occasions, audio devices can be detected. For examples,
10)Upgrading an HP XW4200 (XP machine with AC�97 codecs driver) to Vista,
11)1/5 chance on the machines with both Sun JRE and MS Java SDK installed.
12)Trying Item # 9. it worked once on one machine, but after rebuilding the machine, the same trick does not play.
I am wondering if there is a way to let JMF-based applets detect audio devices on Vista or this is an inherent problem with JMF, IE and Vista.

I would appreciate it very much if you'd kindly offer any help and suggestions. >I suspect the basic problem here, is the installer that defaults to preventing the applet access to record sound (I am guessing that would 'spill over' into web-cam permissions). A quick test of that is to try the same code as an application.
If the application works, one possible fix is to launch the application using webstart. Webstart will work from a web page, and offers many other advantages over a standard applet.

IPhone 3GS can not detect SIM Card after upgraded to iOS 6.0.1

Guys I really need your advice please...
I upgraded my iPhone 3GS 32GB from iOS 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 a couple weeks ago and since then it can not detect the my SIM Card ever. Before it's been upgraded, the phone was working just fine, but now it's just like a gameboy to me. I've been trying to find solution and some stores want me too pay quite amount of money to fix it but I refused.
By the way, it has been jailbroken with RedSnow, tethered of course... and all the features are working perfectly, the WiFi is working, syncing is working, Bluetooth is working, downloading apps from App Store is okay, but only Mail and Safari won't work. I haven't got a chance to go to Apple Service Center to fix it yet, but the store I went said that Apple may say the same.

The problem is not about upgrading an iPhone to a newer version of iOS. Your problem was upgrading a hacked phone, one of the well known consequences of which is re-locking and/or bricking the entire device when restoring in iTunes. You chose to hack your phones firmware and operating system, so you must accept the consequences of going outside the bounds of normal use that Apple prescribes and supports.
Had you not hacked it in the first place, you likely would have never had a problem, and if you had, Apple would have offered support to deal with it. Your choice, your decision, your consequences.

Computers can't detect Airport Express after configuration

I've been using AE devices since 2006 and have never seen what I'm about to describe.
A couple of months ago I setup an older AE at a friend's house. He wanted to print wirelessly, so I set up his AE to join his wireless network and connected it his printer via USB. All his computers (lots of Macs, one Windows 7 PC with airport utility 5.6.1 plus Bonjour) saw the printer through Bonjour and printed just fine.
Until last week, when no computer was able to see the printer through Bonjour.
The light on the AE was solid green. I thought unplugging the AE and plugging it back in would solve the problem. It didn't.
So I reset the AE and reconfigured it from scratch using the Windows machine (as I had done the first time two months earlier). The configuration went well, but Airport Utility on the PC would not detect the AE after initial setup.
So I thought the AE was defective. The next day I brought one from my house (a first generation N one). This one was working fine at my house, so I knew it wasn't defective.
I reset it and reconfigured it with Airport Utility on the PC. Again, after initial configuration, Airport Utility would not detect the AE.
"It's the PC's fault," I thought. Let's use a Mac.
I fired up the latest Airport Utility on a 2011 iMac with 10.8.4. It would not see it. So I reset it again and reconfigured it from scratch. It found it. Great.
So I plugged the AE near the printer and connected it to it via USB. Went back to the Mac, added the printer via Bonjour and printed a test page. It printed the page, but lost connection to the printer immediately after. It never reestablished connection.
I took a Macbook with 10.6.8. Fired up Airport utility and set the laptop near the printer with the AE connected to it. It could not find the AE.
I then reset and reconfigured the AE one more time, this time using the laptop. And again, after initial configuration, the laptop could not find the AE.
In all these instances, the light on the AE was solid green after initial, successful configuration.
I then purchased the latest AE (the dual band N one), went through the same steps, with the same results. No computer can see it.
What gives? I retested all these AEs at my house, and they work just fine.
Nothing has changed at my friend's house since his AE was working last week. What can possibly cause the problem?

Fixed it. It was not an Apple problem. I just had to cycle the wireless access points.

Inaccessible boot device after splitting windows 8 partition

Originally my Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 14 came with windows 8 64bit, I upgraded it to windows 8.1. Later I decided I wanted to do a dual boot. The windows8OS partition was about 400GB so I split it using AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro Edition 5.1. The process didnt work, now I keep getting a BSOD "inaccessible boot device" and keeps restarting. All it accomplishes is restarting. How do I fix this problem?

Welcome to the forum!
Generally failures during a partition resizing are not fixable. The easiest repair would be to just re-install the operating system and resize the partition during the process or just restore the hard drive back to its original condition from a recovery disk or image file. Hopefully you have such options available.
If by chance you were successful in resizing the partition and the machine won't boot correctly then try using the Boot Corrector or MBR Repair feature of your partitioning software. After a successful resizing, the Master Boot Record (MBR) sometimes needs to be updated or repaired in order for the computer to boot successfully.
In addition, when setting up a computer for dual or triple booting Windows operating systems you generally install the older version of Windows first then the newer version. Here is link to a Microsoft article on the topic that you may find informative.........

My macbook pro can't detect the NAS after the NAS reboot.

After I reboot the QNAP NAS, my macbook pro can't detect the NAS. I can't find the NAS drives in Finder even I input the new IP address. I remember my macbook pro was able to detect the NAS automatically before. Please help.

"Inaccessible Boot Device" after changing motherboard

Ok, I know this is a known problem. Windows 2000 cannot boot up if you changed motherboard with a new chipset. I should run sysprep with my old BX motherboard before I swap it.
But the reason why I want to upgrade my motherboard is because my old motherboard has spoiled! There is NO WAY I could run sysprep with my non-working BX motherboard!
Is there any better way (such as utility) to force Windows 2000 to detect and install the drivers for the new chipset so that I can keep my old settings and installed programs? I don't want to install a clean Windows and reinstall everything!

Can't install Snow Leopard after complete format

I've got a new Macbook Pro 15 (bought in August). Problems with the Bootcamp partition led to the machine not starting up at all.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a Mac OS X DVD, so in desperate need of the computer I installed Ubuntu. I have since bought the Snow Leopard DVD, but now when I try to install it, I just get a grey screen with the Apple logo in the middle.
I've been through the instructions - holding Cmd + Opt + P + R, and doing Cmd + Shift + V. When I boot with the latter, I see that it freezes on loading Extensions.mkext.
Fortunately, everything is backed up with a combination of Time Machine and Dropbox, but I can only use my Macbook with Linux.
Any ideas would be very gratefully received

Hmm, my conclusion is different than that of rkaufmann87.
You bought a retail disc, which should be 10.6. Your machine, if it was purchased in August and is a Mid 2010 model, likely shipped with at least 10.6.3. Unfortunately, that means the retail disc is not the correct build to boot your machine, since your machine is newer than the disc.
If you do not have your original system discs, you can call AppleCare (1-800-APL-CARE) to have new discs shipped to you, I believe it is $15 a disc. You can also head into an Apple Retail Store if one's near (make an appointment first at http://apple.com/retail) and have them help you at the Genius Bar, or use this site to locate your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/ (note: AASPs may charge for their time for software repairs not covered under the Apple Limited Warranty or AppleCare).
