Can't detect router (but router works!)

recently... i got this "limited connection" for the internet, but i noticed that the Router was working perfectly (all the lights were fine) and the modem (motorola) was also working fine as well (corresponding lights were on). i had to unplug the router for now (connect the internet, just directly through the modem - so the modem works). i just tried to reinstall the router and nothing can detect this WRT54G, but all the correct lights are still flashing.
i'm wondering if, the router got fried or something? possibly an A/C adaptor problem?, i tried a different outlet on my power bar but it still didn't work (everything else connected to the power bar works).
thanks in advance!

for "limited or no connectivity" through the router , follow the steps below :
1) make sure that the computer is connected to one of the LAN ports and not the WAN / Internet port.
2) go to start -> control panel -> network connections -> right click on LAN and click properties -> click on configure and go to Advanced tab....under the properties column select Link Speed and under values select 10 mbps half duplex mode
3) Restart the computer and check the ip add.
4) if still getting 169.254.x.x , go to start -> control panel -> network connections -> right click on LAN and go to properties -> select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click for its properties.
Select use the following ip add and enter the info
   IP add         :  192.168.1.10
    SM              :  255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1
Click OK.
5) go to command prompt , ensure that u get the same ip add and then type :
 ping 192.168.1.1
if you get replies , it means your computer is communicating with the router
if you get Request Timed Out , disable the firewalls on the comp , hold the reset
button on the router for 90 seconds and do a power cycle...
6) check the ip add again and try to ping the default gateway

    Hello SavannahSweetie,
I was looking into the issue you are desribing, and found a great article for troubleshooting wifi connections with iOS devices. It's called iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections and can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398.
Start with this section, and work your way down if needed.
    Basic troubleshooting
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and then on again.
Verify that you are in range of your Wi-Fi router or base station.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and Cable/DSL modem are connected to power and turned on.
Check whether other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For AirPort Base Stations, refer to this article for information about firmware updates. For third-party Wi-Fi routers, check the manufacturer's website for details on updating your firmware.
Restart your iOS deviceHold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
    All the best,

  • Imac can't connect wired, but wifi works

    Hellu!
Just bought a DSL-N55U modem/router (ADSL connection), seems to be a good one.
I'm the only one in the house with Mac, and I'm the only one that cant connect wired (LAN).
The other use windows and it works fine for them ..
I can connect to the router thru the wifi and it works. but i need to get online with wire.
    Everytime i connect with wire
It goes online for 2 seconds, (The iMac gets a IP and internet works fine) but then it timeouts
    and it repeats ...
So as soon i get online .. it kicks me out or something.
I have tried change a lot of router settings but nothing works.
I also tried to remove the network preferences and created new ones ..
Maybe i need to remove some settings or files on the iMac? i don't know ..
    Please help!
I live in Sweden, and using a ADSL connection!

Change the ethernet cable to a new one, try a different port on the router.
I did these but it doesn't work unless I unplug the router.
Upgrade or re-install the drivers for your LAN card in the computer.
    What is LAN card?
Why do I unplug the router then things will work? there should not be anything wrong with my hardware, right?

  • Hard disk not detected once, but now working?

    Hi,
I'm Zak, a bit of techie when it comes to playing with software, or re-assembling computers and whatnot. Unfortunately I've got no clue about some other things.
A bit of quick history on my notebook: The fan has been making terrible noises the last few weeks. Initially I thought it was some dust so I got some duster. A lot of dust came out, so that can only be good, but the noises came back after a few days. After some searching I figured the other logical explanation was probably the hard drive going bad. I'm hesitant to send it back to HP because I use it for all my university work and it would really set me back a few weeks to not have it.
So, a few days ago, I booted up my notebook to a "hard drive not detected" - or very similar - message. There were a few options, for f1-f4, they were system information, and 3 different tests (I think). I ran the tests, each one came back fine, noting that there was no OS installed, or hard disk to boot from. I rebooted because I hadn't quite seen it boot up, and wanted to see if there were any other options. Turns out, it started up fine. I restarted once more and again, it did fine.
Next, I scrambled around, backing up all my data, getting together warranty info, installing the HP Support Assistant, etc. I ran all the tests from the Support Assistant and there were no problems detected. Since then I've just been hibernating the notebook when I stop using it, and I haven't encountered any unusual trouble. It all seems fine, but my warranty expires Dec 7th of this year. Is it safe for me to assume the "hard drive not detected" error was just a single misfire? I've read a lot of threads and FAQs on it and it doesn't sound like something that just happens once and goes away. On the other hand, I've never had to use a warranty so am unsure quite how the process works, and like I said, sending it anywhere would put me back in my work.
For the sake of a full post, I have an HP G62-367DX Notebook, running on Windows 7 64-bit OS, and as far as I know there were no changes made between the error and my prior boot. If there's any other information I can provide, just let me know.
Cheers, thank you very much for any assistance, and good day
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The tests from the Assistant are not as comprehensive or reliable as the full hard drive test in the BIOS....tap F10 as you power up, go in there and find the hard drive test. Run the long form test and see what is says. It is not unusual for hard drive issues to start as intermittent and gradually get more frequent. If your drive passes the long form test you can fairly safely assume it was a one-time gremlin of some sort, but it is still a real good idea to back up. I like the idea of the online backup services and I will name Carbonite only because it is well known and not as an endorsement. There are several more and an external drive is also a good idea.
You cannot put off a reboot forever; you are going to have to confront the issue at some point.

  • Outlook client can't connect in but OWA works

You need to make sure your OutlookAnywhere and AutoDiscover settings are setup properly along with Split-DNS. OutlookAnywhere and Split-DNS are vital for future-proofing your Exchange configuration and making it work properly now, regardless if you use Exchange 2007, 2010, or 2013. For Exchange 2013, OutlookAnywhere is a requirement and Split-DNS is Best Practice. If you are on Exchange 2007 or 2010, and you do not have OutlookAnywhere enabled, enable OutlookAnywhere and follow this guide. You should always use NTLM over Basic authentication, as Basic sends the username and password in the clear, and NTLM is Windows Authentication. On Exchange 2013, you also have a new option called Negotiate, which is recommended. As you follow this guide, you will set the ClientAuthenticationMethod (Internal and External if on Exchange 2013) to NTLM...

Outlook client can't connect in configured outlook on workstation but OWA works.

  • Can't Video Chat, but Audio Works Great

Hey guys....I have been trying my hardest to get my IChat video feature up and running.
The audio works great when conferencing and obviously the im works fine. Myself and the person I am trying to video chat with both are using AIM through IChat. Here is the error message I am getting -
2009-04-06 13:53:14 -0400: No data has been received for the last 10 seconds.
Audio channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.3:16402, expecting remote machine to send to 173.66.213.133:16402
Video channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.3:16402, expecting remote machine to send to 173.66.213.133:16402
If I restart my IChat and send a video chat invitation I can initially see the person on the other end. But, the picture then freezes (almost instantly) and then I get the error message.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
    Two possible things.
    1) Go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and set the speed to 1.5Mbps and relaunch iChat so it "sees" the new speed.
    2) Check your modem/router for any DoS (Denial of Service) or SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) feature and turn it Off.
    Examples
Netgears have either DOS or SPI in the WAN Page
Netopias have this Feature as part of the Firewall when you use a setting higher than Low.
Linksys tend to have the same in the firewall in the Security tab.
Basically they can be anywhere in the set up pages as the manufacturers never put them in the same place.
Both features examine incoming data to see if it is an attack.
In an iChat video chat so much data can be sent from higher speed processors over high speed inter net connections that it is regarded by DOS as a attack.
SPI tries to evaluate the validity of the data and tend to get overwhelmed (Simplified view).
192.168.1.3 looks more like an IP from a Linksys than the other two examples.

  • Can't setup AX (but internet works?)-Help.

I just purchased a AX and am having difficulty setting it up. I went through a number of threads here, but my problem appears to be different.
    Summary:
    1. I am unable to set up the AX using AirPort Utility
    2. However, AX works (unsecured) as I am able to connect to the internet even though setup cannot be completed
    3. I just want to be able to setup security/password
    Additional Details:
    1. I plan on using th AX for travel with a netbook (which does not have a CD drive) I had to download the latest version of Airport Utility and installed it
    2. When I run the utility, it finds AX and provides the details. i.e.: "AirPort Utiiliy found a wireless devise with default settings", "Wireless Network Name: Apple Network..."., "Airport ID: ..."
    3. When I press "Continue" or "Manual", I get a message," An error occurred while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again"
    4. I tried tried the tips provided by Bob Timmons in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2359961&tstart=15 but with no success.
    5. was using a Netgear wireless modem with the netbook that works fine.
    6. The AX is connected to the Motorola DSL modem
Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

  • IrDA problem PC can't detect 6101 but 6610 is OK

PC running XP sp1 with USB IrDA adapter.
Nokia PC Suite is not intalled yet.
IrDA settings are all default, viz,
    Type is Vishay 6xxxx (default)
    Speed is 400000 (default)
When I enable IR on my 6610, it connects immediately.
When I enable IR on the 6101, it does not connect.
I have been through the speed and IR type configurations for the adapter and have tried combinations of:
Type: Sigmatel 4000, Sigmatel 4012 and Vishay (6101E perhaps?)
    Speed: 9600, 19200, 115200, 4000000
On one occasion, the 6101 was detected but the installation appeared to fail. XP said:
    Detected new device Nokia 6101
    Detected Classic Phone
Detected modem over IrDA (or something like that)
    It never got to:
New hardware is installed and ready to use.
I have also reimaged the PC so the 6610 was never present and still the 6101 can not be detected.
    Any suggestions please?

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. I will try it. Do you suggest to use the latest version, or some older version?
But, how will installing PC Suite help me if the PC cannot detect the 6101 although it can detect the 6610?
Do I currently have a pure connectivity problem? How will PC Suite fix it?
    Thanks in advance

  • NI MAX can't detect instrument but the instrument can be pinged

    Hi,
I'm in the process of connecting a Lecroy oscilloscope to a cpu via a cross over cable with plans of controlling the scope through some VIs. I cannot get NI MAX to find the oscilloscope, even though I can ping it. Below are the steps I've taken:
    1) Installed NI-VISA and VICPPassport along with all the appropiate Lecroy drivers for Labview
    2) Configured the IP addresses of the scope and CPU and successfully pinged each other (no firewalls active, same subnet, connected with cross-over cable).
    3) Installed Lecroy's wavestudio software, established succesful communication with the scope (it had no trouble finding it automatically)
    4) Opened NI MAX and tried to auto detect the scope using create new TCP/IP option. Failed. Also, the manual option failed as well.
I don't understand why I can ping the insturment, and interact with it using wavestudio, but NI MAX can't find it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello SimonWall,
The VICP pport (the rules of the post do not allow me to use the word p&$$port correctly) uses port 1861.  The firmware on the TeledyneLeCroy scope will setup firewall rules to allow the LXI and the VICP connections.  Typically, the issues with a block are either the fact that WaveStudio (or some other application) is still connected to the device when attempting the connection, anti-virus software that has been installed on the scope, or the scope has been connected to a company network that implements policies that have blocked it.
There is an app. note on the TeledyneLeCroy website that describes the VICPpport (and has the port information as well) that may help you: (Due to the rules of the community for posting here, I cannot add the link, but you can search on VICP from here)  TeledyneLeCroy App Notes
    I hope this helps!

  • Mail can't send/receive but Eudora works fine

After reading through many of the threads here and changing my preferences in every conceivable way (SSL, authentication, advanced settings etc) I still can't get Mail to send or receive mail.
However, when I opened my old Eudora, my e-mails came through lightning fast.
Any ideas why this might be happening? I'd prefer to use Mail but will use Eudora if necessary.

Create a new user account on your Mac with the same permissions as your existing one and start Mail. Configure your email address and see if it works. If it does then you might have a corrupted Mail Property List file on your normal user account.
Log out and log back in to your normal user account and move the file com.apple.Mail.plist from within folder <home>/Library/Preferences to the desktop and then re-start Mail.
It will launch as if it has never been configured before so create your primary email account and see if that now works.

  • PC can't detect router (WRT54GS)

I'm trying to set up my router and the PC can't detect the router.  The cables are new and connected properly.  If I connect the PC directly to the cable modem it works fine, however when I connect the router the PC cannot decect the router.  I've tried powering down and up and reseting the router but nothing works.
I've talked to linksys support and they advised me to replace the router because they suspected the ethernet port was defective.  I did that but I get the same issue when trying to set up the replacement router.
My PC is roughly 4 years old - is it possible that my NIC needs new drivers?

Sorry Mikodog, On my last post I miss read your post...I thought you said your router was 4 years old.
Anyway, when you plug the puter into port 1 do you get a link light on your pc NIC? When you do a ipconfig /all with the suspect NIC, what kind of info does it return? And when you do it with the NIC that works, what does it return? With the susupect NIC, can you ping yourself? Just basic stuff. You also might Isolate the NIC by doing the puter to puter thing.
As far as puter settings are concerned...check your TCP/IP configuration...you know, right click on my network connections right click on the local network Icon (make sure it shows enabled) and then click properties, scroll down to TCP/IP  and click the properties do hicky.

  • Ram reversed but still work?

    Hello,
I recently installed a new 1 gb memory upgrade, and when I checked system profiler, listed new unit as 'SODIMM1/J23REVERSED:'. It is listed and recognized, so I'm just wondering if the memory can be installed 'backwards' but still work properly? If not, just curious why the memory can be listed as being either 'standard' or 'reversed'.
    thanks for your help,
    charles

Just FYI, not all PowerBook G4 Aluminium models diplay their RAM in this way. I have two identical SODIMMs installed and neither are listed as reversed.

  • I lost my connection when I was using internet and when I want to reconnect to airport it give me connection timeout error, I changed my password on router but still doesn't work. How can i fix my problem?

    Hi,
I lost my airport connection when I was using internet and when I wanted to re-reconnect to airport it gave me connection timeout error, I changed my password on router but still doesn't work. How can i fix my problem?

    Hello there hastibahreini,
It sounds like you were using your Wi-Fi network from your Airport base station and the connection cut out. You have reset the password on the device but the issue persists. I would try the 3 resets outlined in the following article in order to help resolve the issue. If it persists, is the Wi-Fi connection issue happening on more than one device or computer?

  • I can't connect to the router in my home.  Things were working fine as usual - I attended school and connected to their WiFi network as usual.  When I returned home I could not connect to my own home router.  The Ipad seeks the network but nothing happens

I can't connect to the router in my home.  The Ipad seeks the network but nothing happens.  I went to school and connected to their WiFi network as usual with no problems.  When I returned home I could not connect to my home router.  The Ipad seeks the router number but nothing happens.  I rebooted the Ipad a few times in the school.  The numbers identifying the router, etc. on my Ipad no longer appear there.
TThe Ipad guide says to connect to the WiFi use setup but I can't find the setup program in the Ipad.
I reset the network settings to the factory defaults but this doesn't fix the problem.
What can I do to reconnect to my home router?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
