Can't Disable "Allow Host Cache Flushing"

I have problems if I have "Allow Host Cache Flushing" on when I digitize video. When I turn it off I have no problem whatsoever. The problem I have is that when I turn it off it won't stay. I'll press okay and then go and check it again and it is checked. Does anybody know what is going on.
I had just brought a 1.5 hr program online and now all the video has dropped frames because it didn't stick.
Dual 2.0 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   FCP 5.0.4, XRaid Admin Software 1.5

I have the same problem and it's not the cache batteries. It's just a preference corruption, whose solution I do not know. I doubt you are doing anything wrong. Any time I noticed a dropped from on capture, I go to the Raid Admin and re-do the performance settings, then it works fine for a long time.

  • Moving a KMS Server and Disabling KMS host caching

I am moving my KMS server from a 2003 server to a 2012 R2 server. I have KMS installed on the new server, the host keys installed, and I have forced several clients to check in to the new server to reach the activation limits. Here are my questions.
At one point (thru a vbs script) we forced quite a few clients to check into the old server. Now we want to make sure all clients check into the new server. Since the clients have cached the old KMS host (some forced and some thru auto discovery), will
disabling KMS host caching on the old server and removing the DNS record force all clients to contact the new server? If not, what is the best way to accomplish this?
    Russ

KMSclients which are configured for default auto-discovery, will re-discover via DNS in the event that they cannot contact the cached or discovered KMShost.
You could also consider adjusting the priority of the DNS records for OLDhost vs. NEWhost, such that the NEWhost has a higher priority. You might also consider disabling DNS auto-publishing for the OLDhost, and then delete the DNS RR for OLDhost.
For those clients which were "forced", if the OLDhost is statically configured in those clients, you'll need to reconfigure those clients, either back to auto-discover or statically repoint to NEWhost (whichever you prefer)
KMS host caching is different to statically configuring clients.
KMS host caching is intended to avoid excessive DNS queries, i.e. the client will cache the host name and only issue a query is that cached host is uncontactable.
A static configuration of the hostname, at the client, completely bypasses/disables the DNSlookup/discovery.

  • I have turned off disk cache. How can I disable startupcache?

As in above title. Is there a way to disable startupcache and the associated file startupCache.4.little .
It seems to regenerate itself every time I open Thunderbird. If I can't disable it completely is there a way I can limit it's size to 1MG?
I am not sure exactly what this is doing for me, but I don't like to see it growing.
I am on Windows 7 Premium, use Thunderbird only as a pop 3 email client. I do not use any browsing in Thunderbird (beyond looking for add-ons to turn off starupcache). No newsfeeds, etc. From all the searching I have done today I could only find one useful reference in Bugzilla stating it had something to do with retaining fonts, etc.
What does it do? Can I disable it? Limit it's size?
My logic (which could be missing something important, I admit) is that if I have nothing in my appdata/local/Thunderbird/Cache, then why would I want a startup cache?

  • Can you disable the battery or not allow it to charge even if it is pluged in?

Can you disable the battery or charging function even if the laptop is pluged in to a power outlet? Is there any internal switch?

Your battery will remain healthy - and discharge a bit - even when you're plugged into mains. If you're going to run primarily of mains, you should disconnect your MBP about every two weeks and allow it to drain down to about 30-40% and then allow it to recharge - this will keep the ions in the battery 'moving'.
Most of the time you just needn't worry about the battery - just use it thoughtfully.

  • Cache Flushes Solaris10 StorageTek D280 and NFS and ZFS

I encounter complains from users, who are connected via nfs, to Sun Solaris10 server.
The server is connected via Fibre to a Storage Tek d280.
The performance on the server is okay.
However, on the , via nfs connected , clients, the performance is poor.
I found this document, and want to try to disable the cache flushes on the server.
    http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide#Cache_Flushes
However, I rather want to have the Storage Tek D280 acting as a nice zfs storage device, rather than tweaking the operating system.
But I can not find any document on how to configure the behavior of the cache flushes on this device.
Is there someone who know how to setup this storage tek D280 box correctly to ingnore the Cache Flush commands generated by the NFS ?
    Kind regards,

    Thanks for the response.
I don't know how the D280 internally has been setup. It should use raid 5. That's about the only thing I know about it.
It is under control of an ICT department.
However, the effect, or if the D280 is poor configured, does it only affect the NFS clients connected to the Solaris Server ?
I have ruled out the network configuration. This is a 1Gb connection. And for diagnose I tryed with a different switch, and direct connection.
But it did not influence the poor performance of the client, using NFS.
As a test, I just extract a tar file with a big amount of empty files.
This goes over 25 times slower on the clients, than on the server.
I have installed about 8 of those systems, but none is performing so bad.
Since everything on all systems is about the same configuration, the only things which are out of my control, is the network, and the san.
I tryed to test the network, but I don't see any problems with that.
So in my mind, the only thing left, would be the san device.
Searching on this topic, I found some explanations, about the zfs with nfs, which works poorly, due to the nfs is committing a regular synchronous write (NFS commit) However I don't like to do this.
I also can not find any description on how to configure a D280.
It would be nice, if you could provide some settings which has to be set in a D280.
The configuration is two cluster nodes, and two clients.
The cluster node mainly task is to provide the nfs shares.
The clients and servers are in one 19" rack.
The San, I don't know where it is.
It has a 2Gb fibre coupling. ( On the server side there are 4Gb Emulex HBA's installed )
Kind regards,If a tar file extracts 25 times faster on the server then it does over the network, yet both times the data is being written to the SAN LUNs on the D280, the problem is the network.
That tar file extracts slower across the network for two reasons: bandwidth and latency.
There's only so much data you can stuff through a gigE network. Your single 1 gigE link can handle about 100 MB/sec read and 100 MB/sec write combined - total. For all users. That may be part of your performance problem, because the configuration LUN layout of that D280 would have to be really, REALLY bad for it to be unable handle that relatively small amount of IO. You CAN test the performance of the LUNs being presented to your server - just use your favorite benchmarking tool to do various reads from the "/dev/rdsk/...." device files that make up your filesystem(s). Just make doggone sure you ONLY do reads - if you write to those LUNs your filesystem(s) will be corrupted. Something like "dd if=/dev/rdsk/... of=/dev/null bs=1024k count=10000" will tell you how fast that one LUN can stream data - but it won't tell you how many IO ops/sec the LUN can support as you'd need to do random small reads to do that. Any halfway-decently configured D280 LUN should be able to stream data at a constant 200 MB/sec while you're reading from it.
And even if the bandwidth were much higher, you still have to deal with the additional latency of having to do all communications across your network. No matter how fat the pipe is, it still takes more time to send data across the network and have to wait for a reply. What do your ping times look like between client and server? And even with that added latency, there are some things you can do on your hosts. Increase your TCP buffer sizes, mount your filesystems on your Linux clients with the "rsize=32768,wsize=32768,intr,noatime" options, and maybe use NFSv3 instead of NFSv4 - make sure you change both the server and client settings to be sure. And work with your network admins to get jumbo frames enabled. Moving more data per packet is a good way to address latency because you wind up having to wait for a response much fewer times.

  • Can I disable an Ipod from ITunes/Other Questions

Hi all! I am new to this forum and to using IPods/ITunes, so I am still trying to learn as much as I can about them. I made the mistake of getting my very irresponsible young teenage son an IPod (Gen 3) Touch. I have asked him several times to hand the device over to me so I can review the browser’s history (I am not even sure if that is possible, but I was going to try). I am I have major concerns regarding the websites he may be visiting. I am not trying to violate his privacy, but if it was a problem showing me the device - why won’t he hand it over - so that raised some major red flags.
    So...my questions are:
Can I disable the device from ITunes? Or can I just delete the device from my ITunes Account? Would he still be able to use it?
I think I found a place on ITune where there was a place I could pick what parental controls that I wanted, I set those up - but I found this feature after he started hiding the device? Can this feature still work remotely without syncing?
Is there a way to view the browsing and internet history on the device (even if he would delete it)?
I am not sure if this would make a difference or not to answer my question, but when I had to set up the ITunes account, I did have to provide credit card information to start the account.
I do have my daughter’s new IPod (Gen 4) Touch also linked to the same ITunes account.
One more thought...can I just delete the ITunes account totally and start a new one for my daughter? Would this disable his device?
Again, I am very new to using an IPod. I can get around using them (and selecting the correct features) with a little direction though.
Thanks for your help and advice in advance it is very very appreciated!
    -SD

Can I disable the device from ITunes?
Not without being able to connect the iPod to the computer, no.
Or can I just delete the device from my ITunes Account? Would he still be able to use it?
    See above.
I think I found a place on ITune where there was a place I could pick what parental controls that I wanted, I set those up - but I found this feature after he started hiding the device? Can this feature still work remotely without syncing?
The parental controls feature in iTunes only works for iTunes, not for a portable device. There are similar restrictions on the iPod, but those can only be set on the iPod itself.
Is there a way to view the browsing and internet history on the device (even if he would delete it)?
No, sorry, if he clears the history, there's no way to view it.
can I just delete the ITunes account totally and start a new one for my daughter?
You can start a new one, but that won't affect any existing accounts. You can change the password on the iTunes Store account he's been using. That would block him from being able to purchase any new content through that account. But you can't stop him from opening up a new iTunes Store account by using a prepaid iTunes card, available from almost any grocery store.
    Would this disable his device?
    No.
Without being able to have the iPod in your hands, the only way you can affect it would be if you had set up the Find My iPod feature before giving the iPod to your son. If you had, you could then lock the iPod or wipe the data on it. Otherwise, there's nothing you can do until he gives you his iPod, at which time you could set up the Restrictions and, if you wish, download a web browser that allows you to set site restrictions and force him to use that browser.
    Regards.

  • How can I disable e-mail and text messages when I'm close to or over my data quota ?

How can I disable e-mail and text messages when I'm close to or over my data quota ?
Is this possible? I don't see any options?
    All I see is this:
Receive confirmations of many account transactions via Email and/or free Text Alerts delivered right to your cell phone. You can receive these confirmations for
transactions done online, over the phone or from your handset. Account management Text Alerts do not count against any Messaging allowances.
Your bill is ready for review.
Payment Confirmations: Your payment has been  received    Your credit/adjustment     has been applied.1
Account Activity Confirmations     Plan changes     Feature changes1

    What phone?
You would need to disable data on the phone itself.  You wouldn't do it online on your account.
Note also that text messages do not count toward your data allowance.

  • How can I disable developers tools from using function keys?

Every time I try to use my Quake like console binded to the F12 key, it opens the dev.Tools. How can I disable or even better uninstall dev. Tools.
I don't want to change the key I use for my console, I want dev.tools to stop bothering me when I'm browsing the web, IT'S DISTURBING!!!
Most people doesn't need dev tools, just put it as a plugin !!!

Was eventually able to eliminate this problem by deleting the size entry in the devtools.toolbox.host using about config.
At least it's invisible now instead of occupying half the page every time I hit F12.

  • 23" Cinema Display: Can't disable MacBook display to use only the cinema?

    Hi,
I just bought a 23" cinema display with the intention of using it exclusively while I use a wireless keyboard and just keep my MacBook closed. I notice that when I set the display preferences to "mirror," the quality of the cinema display reduces greatly, since it's only able to be set at the maximum display resolution allowed for the MacBook when mirroring. This seems to defeat the purpose of having the cinema display. So, I guess I have several questions:
    1. Can I close the MacBook without it going to sleep?
    2. Can I make the cinema display the primary display (with application menus, etc.)?
    3. Can I disable the MaBook display and use only the cinema display?
    Thanks,
    Stew

    1. Can I close the MacBook without it going to sleep?
No, but if the power adapter is connected, you can wake it with the external keyboard or mouse (make sure wake-up is enabled in the Bluetooth system preference), and it will continue to run with the lid closed.
    2. Can I make the cinema display the primary display (with application menus, etc.)?
Yes. In the "Arrangement" pane of "Displays" system preference, turn off mirroring and drag the picture of the menu bar to the picture f the external display.
    3. Can I disable the MaBook display and use only the cinema display?
    Yes. Close the lid.

It's a preference pane control that allows you to adjust the volume of the startup sound or disable it completely.

  • Disable "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" for Mointpoints

    Hey Guys,
I wandt to optimize all our SQL Servers and so I want to disable the  "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" option in the Volume Properties.
The SQL Server is installed under D:\SQLSERVER which is a normal folder.
For the root and sub directories d:\ the following solution works:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bf99c428-7fbc-4cd5-9a4a-0c6b69e906ab/disable-allow-files-on-this-drive-to-have-contents-indexed-in-addition-to-file-properties?forum=ITCG&prof=required
But we have Mountpoints for the Data and Log Files under D:\SQLUSRDATA and D:\SQLUSRLOG. When I use the NotContentIndexed Attribute on this direcotry there is no error message. But when I go to  Properties of the Mountpoint folder under General >
Properties The "Allow files..." option is still activated.
Is there a solution to deactivate Indexing on Mointpoints via Powershell?

Your question has nothing to do with scripting.
I recommend that all SQLServer systems have a GP applied that sets the minimum requirements for the server.  This would include disabling the indexing service which serves no purpose on a SQLServer based system.  You should also disable all AV
scanning of SQLServer folders as this can create performance issues and may make SQLServer unstable.  Many AV products will skip database files on purpose.
The indexer will not index SQLServer files unless you have altered its behavior so, mostly, what you are doing is unnecessary.
Post you issues in the SQLServer forum to get the latest requirements and settings for you implementation.
Again thisis not a scripting issue and it should not bemanaged via a  script.  It is a deployment issue and should bemanaged in that way.  YOu can use PowerShell V4 and later DSC SDK to set a standard "Desired State" for you SQLServers.
Use of DSC with  SQLServer should also be worked out with the SQLServer forum MVPs and others there.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • 10.5.2 Can't disable root userows

using Directory Utility, it only shows "enable root user" but the root user is already enabled (there is "other" in the login window along with my normal logon.
The root user was initially enabled because installing 10.5.2 reset my normal logon from Admin
to standard user. To regain installation priveleges, I booted off of the Leopard disc and used the change password option, which allowed me to give myself back admin privileges. The last step is to use Directory Utiity to disable the root user, assuming the procedure in the document linked:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306876

It's in the Edit menu. On mine it always comes up with "Enable Root User" not "Disable" as per the article. I've been through the entire upgrade procedure twice. It is grayed out until you unlock the lock in the main Directory Utility window, but when it becomes available it's still "Enable" not "Disable".
After the first time this played out, I booted off the Leopard disk again (see first post) and this time I restored my backup that was just previous to 10.5.2 The funny thing is that after doing that initially everything seemed as it was before the mess (i.e. my normal login was still admin). But after I downloaded the 10.5.2 combo update and it launched, it took away my admin privileges even though I hadn't completed the 10.5.2 upgrade, merely launched the installer. Sooooo I rererebooted off the Leopard disc and erased and zeroed the drive, and went to restore back to 10.5.1 again except those backups were no longer in existence so I had no choice but to restore the only backup available which was 10.5.2.
    So everything works OK but I can't disable the root account so when the login screen appears it has not only my normal logon but "Other." {Begin Rant} It's not a big deal since my real problem is that 10.5.x has made my Express34 RAID10 array unavailable due to the lack of an updated driver from Silicon Image for the 3132 chipset found in most Express34 cards. My eSATA drives will crash the MBPro if I spin them up. According to some others (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1256237&tstart=0 ) 10.5.2 has corrected some JBOD issues in 3132 based cards that have USB2 or eSATA outputs, but my two eSATA outputs feed two Enterprise WD Drives that I built a RAID10 array on with 10.4.x and it worked flawlessly all year until 10.5 Now all my Final Cut scratch is offline and the workaround means installing 10.4.x and copying them to another drive, going back to Leopard and rebuilding the RAID and then copying the data back to the RAID. It's a ton of work and will cost me another FW800 drive when all I really need is for Silicon Image to get off their lazy butt and write a new driver. {End of Rant}

  • How to delete or disable addressbook thumbnail cache

I am running out of disk space and so analyzed the disk utilization. Imagine my surprise when I found com.apple.AddressBook.thumbnailcache directory lurking in /private/var/folders/.... with a whopping 20.8 GB!  So questions :  (1) What is this cache and why is it so large? (2) Is it all right to delete this directory? (3) How can I disable this, because I do not want thumbnails of my address book.  This is quite ridiculous. My entire Applications folder is like 16 GB!  Thanks in advance.

    Hi
It helped, thanks ! I am not able to get the local "On My Mac" account do display even after trying different permissions on the folder.
For now, I just deleted the cached files. Will see if they are created again.
This is a serious issue though and needs to be addressed, hope someone at Apple is reading this discussion. Is there a way to file a bug report with Apple?
    Thx.
