Can't do ANYTHING...HELP ASAP!!

My son just got this eMac from a program through his school. I can't do much on there to even set it up for him because I need the Administrator login name and password! Does anyone know any way I can override this or get around it so I can set up internet and even change the time setting?!?! I would like to make myself the "Administrator" since my son is only 12...is there ANY way I can do this? Apparently the people who gave us the computer aren't around to help me!

I agree with the actions, but not the reasoning.
Any second hand Mac you acquire, it will be best to do a clean instal of the OS, not because there could be security issues etc, but just simply because you don't know when it last had a clean instal, what un-required-by-yourself software may be installed on it, potentially slowing it down, etc etc etc.
A clean instal gives you a clean start, without any unknown hassles.
EG I helped my parents buy an iMac off eBay a while ago. As I was live 3000km away, I wasn't able to do a clean instal for them. Each time they booted it, the computer kept asking them to buy some expired software that the previous owner had installed. This went on for over a year before I was able to get down there and clean it up. The computer also had issues printing, possibly from some other print software that was installed.
Coming from a school, it would be more likely to have increased network security, rather than "holes" in it... but again, this may not be something you need or want.
If it doesn't have the "eMac Restore" DVD or CD, then get on eBay and buy Tiger/find it in the bargain bin at a Apple reseller, and instal it fresh.

I thought you could still restore using iTunes on your computer. iTunes would download iOS 7.0.4 (current version) then restore from there. Of course, this assumes you are using a reasonably current version of iTunes.
Anyway, if I'm wrong and you cannot restore, try recovery mode descrbied here. Note you may have to try to get into recovery mode more than once.

Broadband connecting but can't do anything - HELP ...

I've been using BT Broadband with the HH2 for about 6 months now and have had very few problems, but last Friday I couldn't do ANYTHING online. The broadband connection appeared to be OK (all blue lights lit on HH2) and nothing had changed with my hardware, but I couldn't get any data through. I tried my other laptop but it was the same. I tried both computers using wireless and wired connections to the HH2, but no difference.
It appeared that some data is being exchanged - trying to open web pages sends a couple of hundred "packets" but only maybe 10 packets are received, according to the Windows connection status window (I admit that I don't know how accurate this is!).
I phoned the BT Broadband helpline (India?) and spent 4 hours doing al the usual software testing (ping tests etc) and internal wiring tests (using the master socket) but these guys were at a loss about why I can't use the broadband. They said that the line looked OK from their side, and that the broadband connection was OK. I even tried a different ADSL router - one I know that works - in case the HH2 box was faulty, but this didn't fix the problem either.
So now I think that there's something wrong with the line, or the exchange.
Does anyone know how I go about getting BT to take me seriously and send an engineer out?
When I asked about this, the guy on the Broadband helpline said that it's probably spyware (!) on my laptop that's causing the problem. I argued that this didn't sound plausible, but he was adamant that the problem is out if their hands.
Any advice / help on this would be appreciated as I'm getting married in a 6 months and the fiance is in the middle of organising a load of stuff on-line. My life will be made a misery if I can't get this resolved as I'll need to be dragged around a load of shops!!

can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results.
are you connected to the master or test socket or somewhere else

Here's what to do:
Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to reset the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

Have you tried quitting Preview? Right-click (control-click) on the icon in the dock then Quit.
If that does not work then click  on the top left > Force Quit > select Preview > Force Quit > Force Quit

Is your computer on a network by chance? Some network settings could be the cause. I'd recommend testing by connecting your comp directly to your broadband modem.

Is there no sound period? I mean nothing through the headphones or the speaker? If the sound works only through the speaker or just through the headphones the switch inside the headphone port maybe stuck open. Try plugging and unplugging 10 to 12 times to unstick it. If no sound at all, go into Settings>Music>Volume Limit. See if it is turned on, if so check that the limit is not turned down to zero. If still not the problem try a soft reset, press and hold the power and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears, about 15 seconds, then release. if still no joy go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. If still no joy, connect to iTunes via the cable and Restore to backup. If that doesn't work Restore to new. Just remember to save all your stuff that can be wiped before you restore, pictures, music, contacts etc. If none of this works, then maybe a hardware issue contact Apple Genius Bar or store and have your iPod evaluated. FYI: I have been using boot camp with windows 7 and started getting a kernal_data_Page_error and it would reboot windows, i was trying to do a chkdsk on the next reboot, but thats when i started getting this issue. I have put in a new hard drive and went from 2 gigs to 4. I can not get the computer to do anything, even the monitor does not show anything now????

Prep your new drive:
Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

Are you listing the billing address for the card correctly? The address in the iTunes/MAS account must match the address on your bill exactly.

Double-tap the screen with three fingers to disable Zoom.
To turn off Zoom go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom and turn this Off.

If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.

No, unfortunately, when you format a drive, it will erase all the contents. So you will need to find a temporary "storage" place to put the stuff using a PC so you have access to it. Then reformat using Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities). If only using with mac, format Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and use GUID Partition scheme under Partitions/Options. After formatting, you can drag the files back.

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.
