Can't Do Anything To Songs Within Ipod...

I registered my ipod on itunes on a different computer, but I use my ipod on that itunes and on the one on my own computer. I dropped the ipod one day and plugged it into my computer. It asked me to register my ipod, so I did, but afterwards it wouldn't let me touch any of the songs in the ipod. All the song names were faded and it wouldn't let me rename anything, or create new playlists. Help?

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". Connect your iPod and go to Edit>Preferences>iPod, check your settings and change the update method to "Manually manage songs and playlists". That will open up access to directly change things on your iPod: Managing Your Songs Manually

  • After apparently syncing, I get an 13010 error message and told sync can't work. All songs on iPod but frozen.

I recently noticed that a ton of songs weren't playing all the way through and I tried to sync them up. That led to "restoring" my iPod a few times. Finally able to sync and get all songs and podcasts and photos onto my iPod, but along with an error message that the sync couldn't be done due to an unknown error 13010. The songs are there but I can't do anything with them such as make playlists or even change how they're listed. This is incredibly frustrating as NOTHING has happened to this iPod to cause this to happen.

AND i already tried to delete the iTunes library genius.itdb file!!

  • Can't drag and drop songs to iPod anymore

The new version of iTunes is a bit squirreley. First it said that I had to re-authorize my PC (which I did) and now it only lets me add songs via playlists. Should I go back to the earlier version? And why can't I simply see the music on the iPod via iTunes?

*it only lets me add songs via playlists.*
Check your update settings. Connect your iPod and click on it's icon in the iTunes source list (the narrow pane on the left). This will bring up the preferences tabs in the main pane on the right. The first tab you'll see is Summary, look for "manually manage songs and videos", if there is a check mark there then the iPod is set to update manually and you have to drag songs from the iTunes library to the iPod to load them on. If you want to update automatically you need to remove the check mark from there (I would also remove the "enable disk use" check mark unless you want to use the iPod as a removable storage device) and click the Apply button in the right hand corner:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
    Managing content manually on iPod
*And why can't I simply see the music on the iPod via iTunes?*
Click on the chevron (the little triangle) to the left of the iPod icon This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song list.

  • Can't drag and drop songs to iPod or iPhone?!?! Help!?! Urgent!?

So today for the first time I purchased a lot of songs and movie from the iTunes store. After purchasing items from the iTunes store, I wanted to put it in my iPhone and IPod, and it didn't work. I used to be able to do this all the time. I would drag it there and let go, and nothing would happen. And yes I do have "manually manage music and videos" checked for both my iPod and iPhone, it just wouldn't work. I'm so freaked out now. I did a lot of research on the internet and I didn't find any help. Not being to add my songs to my iPod and iPhone manually in the future is just terrible, I need to be able to do that!
Please help if you can! I'm really freaked out right now.
    Thank you.
And yes, I did authorize my computer for those things I purchased, still doesn't work.
    I'm using a iphone 3Gs version 3.1.2 and iPod 160GB.
I've never had this problem before until I first purchased today.
    Help!

Do you have purchases on your iPod from any other iTunes account? Is the computer authorized? What happens if you attempt to play the music in iTunes?

  • Can't get rid of songs on iPod

    Hello!
So, I want to get rid of some songs on my iPod. Its the latest version and I use the latest version of iTunes. I unchecked the songs I didn't want in iTunes and then synced my iPod. When I checked my iPod, the songs were still there. Also, when I clicked on "On This IPod", the songs were not listed.
I even deleted the songs from my iTunes account, and resycned again, but they were not going away.
I tried the whole, "hold the lock key and home button together until the apple appears" thing, tried it, didn't work.
Any way I can get those songs off my iPod? Thanks!

Do they play on the iPod? If no then

  • When i connect my ipod touch to the computer and it brings up itunes, and it starts syncing, it just stays on the last step(6) and I can't download anything else to my ipod.

I connected my ipod touch to the computer.  When it brings up itunes and start to sync, it stalls at the last step (6).  This keeps me from being able to add other songs from my library to my ipod.  I'm very new at this and maybe just don't understand how it works.

  • When I'm in a playlist, how can I search for a song within it

I can only search my entire library whereas I used to be able to search within the playlist. I'm sure it can still be done.

Hi Busygirl, it sounds as though Firefox is handing that email off to Outlook Express, or another program that isn't set up.
If you want to use a Gmail or Yahoo mail account for sending the link, you can set that up as follows:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Applications
In the search box above the list of file types, type or paste '''mailto''' and pause while the list is filtered. In the drop-down on the right, choose Gmail or Yahoo.
If it's a different service, and it's not already on that drop-down, then there is a setup step you need to do first. That's going to be different for each service... let us know which one.

  • Can't Transfer ANYTHING from ITunes to IPod

just in the last week or so i've been unable to transfer anything from itunes to my ipod. this includes podcasts and purchased music. i have no idea what the problem is. the other night i left the two to sync for at least 10 hours and when i checked it the next morning it was barely halfway through the first import. i also try to eject my ipod and my comp freezes and im forced to turn off my comp and restart my frozen ipod. (it stays in the 'do not disconnect' stage) i am running itunes 6, but this problem just started recently. i havent been able to update my ipod or load any new podcasts in forever, please help!!

Okay, now I'm really unhappy. Since my last post a few days ago, I bit the bullet (really, I just needed the excuse) and bought a brand new 60 GB 5G video ipod. Connects via USB (annoying, but at least we are on completely different set of ports from the firewire), and guess what? THE EXACT SAME BEHAVIOR! All 8+ GB of my purchased music (and videos) does not transfer. The same error message about the iPod software being too old. This is truly ridiculous.
My machine checks out okay with Diskwarrior, I've run Applejack repeatedly to fix permissions, clear the caches, check preference files, etc., cleared the pram, and have reset the machine via open firmware. I'm exasperated to say the least. I've even de- and re-authorized the computer for the music store.
Now to add some complexity to this mess, my subscribed podcasts DO transfer over. Is this a DRM issue? Something about iTunes is wonky here. I'll keep poking around, but I'm having a very hard time with this being acknowledged as a problem. For many people, including me, this has been going on for several months.

  • Exchange password incorrect. I can't enter the domain info because I can't do anything on my ipod

my school requires that all students change their password to their exchange accounts every few months. When I did so, my ipod stopped working. Now everytime I turn it on a 'password incorrect' box pops up and I can't do anything else on it. I put in my new password and it doesnt work, when I put in my old password it doesn't work and when I hit the cancel button it just pops back up. It is completely useless. So I went to my schools website and all they offer is the domain info, but I can't even try that because I can't escape the "password incorrect" box. What do I need to do?!?!

If you can't do anything think to the iPod like going to Settings>Mail>the account and change the info for the account then or go to Settings>General>Reset> Reset All Settings, then
    - Reset the iPod nothing is lost. This will likely not work.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory setting/new iPod.

  • Can I Transfer Apple iTunes Songs to Windows iTunes

    Short version of story.
Son receives iPod Nano for Christmas.
Installs iPod on Grandma's MAC and downloads songs.
Family returns home to Windows PC world.
Can we somehow recover Apple songs on iPod before we restore the iPod to the Windows format?

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats): How to determine your iPod's disk format
There are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows. XPlay for instance gets good reviews and has the added functionality to let you copy your songs back to iTunes. Once you have your songs saved to the PC you can go ahead and restore the iPod on your PC and reformat it for Windows. You can purchase XPlay at this link: XPlay

  • Restored computer to original settings need to export new songs to ipod

It's a free program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.

  • How can i set songs within a playlist, or an entire playlist, so that they are not included when using the shuffle function on IPOD Classic? Is this possible?

How can i set songs within a playlist, or an entire playlist, so that they are not included when using the shuffle function on IPOD Classic?
    Is this possible?

You can set any song to Skip when shuffling.
In your iTunes Library, highlight the song and right-click/Get Info. On the Options tab is the Skip when shuffling box. Select that and then Sync the iPod with your Library.

  • HT1386 How can i get all my songs transfered onto the computer from Ipod classic so that my new ipod and my spouse can get the songs??

    Hello
How can I transfer my songs off my old Ipod classic to the computer so that I can pick them up with my new Ipod 4.  Also I want to transfere some songs to my spouses Ipod 5.  Please let me know what I can do...
    Thank you..
    Alexandra

You can try the steps in that support article, but I doubt they'll help: you're trying to copy from an iPod Classic, to an iPod Touch.  As far as I know, that can't be done using backup and restore.  (But you can try—it wouldn't hurt.)
The question I have is, do you have the songs on your computer also?  Or do you only have the songs on your iPod Classic?  (Maybe from an old computer that crashed or something?)
If you have your songs on the computer, all you have to do is just set up your new iPod through iTunes on your computer and sync the songs from iTunes to your new iPod.  You don't have to do anything with the old iPod Classic.
    (Does that help?)
