Can't do printer alignment test

I changed out the ink in my printer and went to do a printer alignment test and I am not able to perform the test.  A message comes up that says my printer is in an error state and it has to be fixed before I can do the test.  I am not sure what the error is, so I don't know how to fix it.  I can print pages, but I need to do the test because there is a little bit of smearing of the ink when it prints.  Any suggestions?

Hello jazzy3,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that after changing the cartridges for your printer, you are trying to get the printer to do an alignment but can't due to an error state message. I will do my best to help you with the issue.
Where is the message coming up stating the printer is in an error state? If this is on the computer, have you checked the printer (provided it has a screen) for a message, or even blinking lights?
Which printer do you have? If you could provide the model number that would help greatly. (Finding Your HP Product Model Number)
That information would help me with providing you more accurate steps and suggestions for your issue. I look forward to your reply.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Printer problem- on new cartridge- repeats alignment test and later repeats documents

I replaced the black ink cartridge on my HP PSC 1410 All IN ONE.  Often it then repeats the alignment test each time, I turn it on.  The second problem is that when I print a document and indicate ONE copy, it continues printing multiple copies.  Do you know why it does these things or how they can be corrected?
I have had this problem a couple of years now and wasted a lot of ink and paper.  Is there some kind soul who knows the solutions?

The PSC 1410 will print an alignment page after a new cartrdige is installed.  If the alignment is not completed the printer will continue to print alignment pages.  To complete the alignment place the alignment page on the scanner aligned to the lower left corner and press the scan button as described here.

  • Will not having any ink in the color cartage cause the printer to fail the alignment test.

Will not having any ink in the color cartage cause the printer to fail the alignment test.

    Hi,
Yes. Usually the printer uses a combination of black and colour blocks to perform an aligment.  The specific patterns differ from printer to printer but the pattern is either read by an internal sensor or you have to take the page and put it on the scanner to scan the alignment page in some all-in-one printers.

  • How can I stop my psc 1310 from printing a test sheet every time I turn it on?

Ever since I changed the cartridge in my all-in-one, it prints the test sheet whenever I turn it on. I tried unplugging it and reinstalling the software, but it still keeps on wasting paper and ink.

NO!  HOW DO YOU STOP IT FROM WASTING OUR INK WIHOUT ALINGING.
MY PRINTING WORKS ABSOLUTELY FINE AND DOES NOT NEED ANY ALIGNMENT BUT EVERY **bleep**ING TIME IT PRINTS AN ALIGNMENT PAGE BEFORE I CAN SKIP IT AND PRINT MY OWN STUFF\
HOW DO I STOP IT FROM WASTING MY GOD **bleep** INK BEFORE I DECLARE A FINANCIAL WAR AGAINST HP.

  • HP4500 printer went off line. I can print the test page but nothing from the IMAS

Network down, re-set - now can't get the printer to function. HP4500 wireless.  Was able to print a test page but when I try to print from the computer I get the "printer off-line" message. I don't know how to fix this.

Try removing the printer from the printer list, then re-add it.
Are you sure you have the latest drivers?

  • My Epson printer stopped working with Firefox today. It does test pages, will work on Notebook, and will work with IE. Up until today it worked with Firefox. Why can't I print anything from the internet with Firefox?

Up until today, I did everything with Firefox. Then I was on Paypal and went to print a shipping label and the printer would not work. I went to troubleshoot page and it printed a test page. I uninstalled my printer and then re-installed it. Still would not work from an internet page. I did a system restore. Still didn't work. Called Epson. They say it's a Firefox problem because it works on Notebook and test pages. I installed IE and the printer works. What happened and how can I get it back working with Firefox?

I have the same problem, I cannot print PayPal shipping label off of Firefox. I did the about.config entry and have seen that the print.print_printer does not exist at all in the list of entries. I use Vista 32. I use an Epson 545 wirelessly.
    Can anyone help?

  • How can I command my printer to print a test page?

    Hello list,
I've got an application that is used on the shop floor that tests a product and then prints a certification sheet at the end of the test that ships with the product.  They only run this test cell about once a month and invariably there is something wrong with the printer...no paper, dried up ink cartridge, etc.
The operator has no keyboard or mouse and the Labview application starts from the Startup folder.
I would like Labview command the printer to print a test page when when the test application starts.  I couldn't find anything in the Windows API or on the Labview pallets that would do that.
    Any ideas would be helpful.
    Using Windows 7 & LV11
    Thanks,
    Mike

    A couple of possible options:
If the problems really are with the printer, then print your own page, just like you do when the test ends. I never looked at them closely, but I don't think the test pages actually include any info on the printer state, so it doesn't really matter what you print.
For functionality which you can't find in the Win32 API, you should usually also try searching for .NET code. Searching for ".net print test page" yields multiple results which look decent at a very quick glance (and some of them do actually appear to use the Win32 API).

  • Column J head alignment can't be printed

How can I fix my problem in printing head alignment? Column J always can't be printed. I use Canon Pixma IP1200. My computer OS is Windows 7. Thanks

    When I create the table I have code like this:TableColumn col = getColumnModel().getColumn(2);
    col.setMinWidth(width + 4);
col.setMaxWidth((int)(width * 1.2));Works just fine for me. The setWidthsFromPreferredWidths() method will use these limits as far as I can see.

  • I need to print save the date magnets that are 8.5x5.5 but I can't seem to align the printer / paper

I need to print save the date magnets that are 8.5x5.5 but I can’t seem to align the printer / paper to print correctly!! HELP!

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? What program are you using to print?
How thick are the magnet sheets?  I would expect most printers would have trouble feeding this material.

  • HT2452 I am unable to print my photos ??? but i can print a "test" page without problems.

I am having problems trying to print photos on my IMAC, I can print a "test page" from printer without any problems and have been able to print pages off without problems??
when I try to print a photos my photo page comes out blank

This could be an issue with the size of the image you are printing and the printers available memory. Although your printer may support up to 64mb or more of data, you may be getting a size error.
This has occurred with many of the printers at the facility I work at and the only work around we have figured out thus far is to resize the document. This does reduce the quality of the image.
Quick question. Are you printing directly to the printer through its IP or are you printing through a print server?

  • I can print a test page from my Mac to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 but nothing else will print

Hi - I just recently had a hard drive crash and had to revert to an old Time Machine backup on my new hard drive to get my Mac back.  Since getting back up and running I have been unable to get my Officejet Pro 8600 back online.  My computer is wired to the wireless router but the printer is running wireless.  My computer can see the printer just fine and I can even print a "Print Quality Diagnostic" report from my Mac to the printer from the HP utility.  But nothing else will print.  The firmware is up to date.  I have tried resetting the printing system multiple times, rebooting the machine, etc... Nothing works.  Any help would be appreciated.
If it helps, we were using a different printer the last time the time machine was backed up, so when we used that backup the old printer was showing, but I reset the printing system, so it shouldn't matter.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hello @Ryan221,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see your hard drive recently crashed and now you are not longer able to print to your HP Officejet Pro 8600. I see you have reset the printing system with no success. Let's try a different approach:
    Scrub/ Uninstall
    • Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
    • Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    • * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    • Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
    1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
    2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
    3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
    4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
    Repair Disk Permissions
1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    2.Double-click Disk Utility.
3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions:
HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver - Mac OS X 10.6, OS X 10.7, OS X 10.8
I hope this helps, please let me know the outcome!

  • How can I print the test page with the Arabic type from the command line

    Hi,
I have been trying to make the tool for printing the test page from the command line on the Arabic OS. I used "rundll32 printui dll printuientry" with "/k /n" options. My tool is to print the test page in all OS when pushing the
    button.
Normally, in the Arabic Windows, the test page is printed with RTL type when printing the test page in the "Devices and Printers". But in my tool, the test page is printed with LTR type. I'm confused because of this result.
Is it possilbe to print the test page with RTL type when using the "rundll32 printui dll printuientry"? If it is possible, could anyone give me the hint or information for resolving?
    Please check for me.

  • Can't print wireless test report

Been through the install/deinstall/reinstall process several times.  Trying to connect a Photosmart c4580 to a Netgear router.  Laptops connecting to router OK.   When I try to print a Network test report, it locks up the printer - I have to unplug it to even turn it off.  Diags show no errors.  No access list on the router.  Ideas?

Ok...are you printing the report from the computer or from the printer control panel? If from the computer, try printing a test report directly from the control panel by doing the following:
    1. Load letter or A4, unused plain white paper into the input tray.
    2. Press and hold the Cancel button (red X) and the Start/Copy/Color button at the same time.
Release both buttons. The self-test page prints.

  • I have a hppsc 1310 series that prints the test page, butr will not print the selected document.

I have a hppsc 1310 series that prints the test page when turned on, but will not print the document I want to print.  It shows in STATUS as printing, but it does not print.  I keep getting a message to install software and I do this.  I then get a message software installed, but it still will not print.  This just started about five days ago.

    Hello ausection29,
Most likely what is printed when you turn on the PSC 1310 is an alignment page. To complete the alignment process you need to place this page on the scanner glass and press the Scan button. The top of the page should be towards the left of the printer I believe, double check this on your printer (there should be a small icon next to the scanner glass showing which way the paper should be placed on the glass).
You can have a look at step 5 in this document for a video of how to do this:
