Can't download basic lessons in GarageBand

I've just bought a keyboard, connected it to my Mac and started GarageBand. The "Intro to Piano" lesson works great, but I can't access any of the other lessons. I go to "Lesson Store" and click the download icon at the bottom right:
This brings up the dialog asking you to purchase (but doesn't give a price?):
Click "Continue". It asks for me to log in to my AppleID. This brings up the next dialog which says that I've already purchased this.
Afterwards, it asks me to log in to my AppleID again, but leaves me at the same "Add more lessons to GarageBand" dialog.
If I go to the App Store, there's an old version of GarageBand (6.0.5), but nothing otherwise that I can see.
If I go back to the Lesson Store again, I can get to the same purchase dialog, but it won't ask for my AppleID. Clicking the continue button does nothing.
So what gives? Have I already purchased this, or do I need to purchase it again?

Check out the article below to get your lessons downloaded to your computer. I know you have done the first part of the steps indicates so I would look at the second part and go to the Apple Online Store to download it from there.

I have a new macbook pro, 4 gb ram, snow leopard installed, all the update done (also for garageband ver. 5,1).......i can't download the lesson n° 9 of the basic lesson of garageband......all the other start without problems (piano and guitar) but, when i try to download the n° 9 of the piano the message is: Garageband can't do the download, go to the apple store (?the store) for help......i go to the apple store but i find only discussion on this forum. It sounds like all of these issues may be related. I would recommend completely uninstalling and removing iTunes and all related components. The following article will explain how to do so in Windows XP:

Can I download the lesson files for Dreamweaver CS6 classroom in a book?

I bought a used copy of Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 classroom in a book and the disc wasn't with it. Can I download the lesson files somewhere?

Can't download Basic Guitar Lesson 3 from GarageBand Store.

Hallo. I have a problem with downloading Basic Guitar Lesson 3, i click on it and it says that "download can't be completed, ask Service..." Did somebody have this problem? Are there some solutions for this problems? Thank you...

try throwing out your GB preferences and Caches, and see if that clears out the problem and enables the download.
alternatively, try going to the Lesson Store and click Change Country at the bottom right, and choose a different country.

Can't download complete set of GarageBand loops

I've looked at many of the discussion thread about this issue but none of them have provided an answer that has solved my problem.
I click on a loop and I get the message that says, "The Software Instrument or Apple Loop selected is not currently installed on your computer. Would you like to install the complete set of GarageBand instruments and loops?"
I've selected the Download Now option which causes Software update to run and then it tells me all of my software is up to date.
I've also tried to use the Download later option by selecting it, quitting GB, going to Software Update the check for them, but still nothing.
I've seen the link to the site that suggests selecting the option to Install from DVD. I see no option to install from DVD. I only have the Download Now and Download later options.
I've tried to use the DVD that came with my Macbook Pro using the 'Customize...' option. I can see that all the the iLife apps are already installed of course so the installer will only give me the option to install 'CPU Help Files'.
I've got plenty of hard drive space so I know that's not an issue.
Any help appreciated.

Sorry for that! Hopefully rebuilding your loop index will solve this.
To create a new loop index, that does not contain the references to the missing loops, remove the contents of the old loop index from the Apple Loops Index folder and then again drag the loops to the loops browser.
Quit GarageBand if it is running.
Remove the contents of the folder /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index/ to another folder on your Desktop.
Relaunch GarageBand - now the Loop Browser should appear completely empty.
Drag all folders with loops onto the Loop Browser in GarageBand. This will reindex the Loops. After this, only loops installed on your machine should appear in the Browser.

P.S. if still broken references appear, you may have more than one loop index folder in your library. Then you need to search your library with Spotlight for all instances; see here:

The format for Flash Catalyst projects changed in version CS5.5. When you open a file that was created in Flash Catalyst CS5 in Flash Catalyst CS5.5, you get a message offering to convert the file to the new format. In the case of most of the lesson files that come with the Flash Catalyst Classroom in a Book, this is a quick, straightforward process. Once it's completed, simply save the converted file with a new name, and you can continue working on the lesson.
A few of the lesson files, however, do not convert successfully. Adobe Press has provided new versions of those files that have been rebuilt in Flash Catalyst CS5.5, and should open without mishap. Otherwise, they are identical to the files provided with the book. Adobe Press apologizes for any invonvenience.

Can't download Piano Lesson 5 and 6

When I try to download the Piano Lesson 5 or the Piano Lesson 6 from the integrated Store in GarageBand '09, it tries to start the download. But after a few seconds it stops and tells me that the download couldn't be completed. The help button on the popup doesn't help, because the linked site doesn't exist. I tried restarting GarageBand and even restarting my MacBook Pro. But didn't help.
Other Piano lessons all worked great downloading the same way. Even the ones with higher digit.
Could someone please help?

I, as well as many many many others, are experiencing the very same problem (look back through this forum).
My GarageBand experience now is getting slower and glitchy. I'm not sure if it is due to it still trying to download lessons in the background. I get an occasional pop-up that says GarageBand couldn't load sounds, re-start.
Evidently you got an Apple person to recognize that a huge problem has been building with regard to user experiences pertaining to their update/downloads.

I am aware of the fact that The basic guitar and piano lessons are free.But whenever i download my third lesson some error shows up asking me to go to apple help through some '?'..Please help if you have any idea..

I have the same problem with guitar lesson 9. I haven't been able to resolve this problem, but however, I noticed something strange when this lesson was downloading (before the error occurred). The textline below Guitar Lesson 9 (you know, this the text that constantly switches from 'downloading' to 'about 40 min.' to 'Blues Lead' to ... and so forth - you get the point) indicated something like '236 of 232 MB'! So this indicated that there was more content downloaded than there was supposed to be... Strange! I hope someone with the same problem will be able to resolve this problem... I'd really like to get this lesson instead of a reoccurring 'help message' which leads to ... nothing. Cheers!

How can I download or find the Garageband Dubstep DrumKit?

I want to make duubstep and I looked up in youtube how to do it in garageband but i need to have the garageband DrumKit so I'd like to know how to get it

I don't know which of the many drumkits you have seen on youtube. But some nice "Dub" loops are in the GarageBand JamPack "Remix Tools" and they are using the Trip Hop Remix Beats.
If you do not have the JamPacks installed, the most economic way to get them would be to buy MainStage 2; this will get you ~500 $ worth of additional instruments and loops for the price of Mainstage 30$.

Can't Download Lesson

I have downloaded all of the guitar lessons except lesson 5. When I try to download it the download stops automatically and a box saying *"GarageBand was not able to complete the download"*

But this page is completely useless and only talks about how to buy artist lessons. can someone explain why this is happening or point me to an alternative download for this lesson because I really want to learn to play.

I'm having the same problem with Lesson 2. It seems like I've downloaded all of it, but GarageBand won't let me play the lesson and says that it isn't finished downloading. I was hoping to find the temporarily lesson file here (where I could download it):
/~Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Learn to Play/tmp/
but no files are there. (The completely downloaded files are stored in this subdirectory, however:
/~Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Learn to Play/Basic Lessons/
Any ideas how to resolve this?

Well, if that's the case, you must have a different finish on yours than I have on mine. Either that or you are extrordinarily careful when using it. Mine literally scratches when using a microfibre cloth. I would really like to know whether yours is somehow different. It would really piss me of if some people got a good quality exterior that doesn't scratch and some of us got the opposite. Did you try holding your player under a light to see if there is anything. You may just be looking at it in bad lighting. I find it hard to believe, unless your unit has a different type of plastic cover, that it hasn't received any type of scratches. Can you take a picture of it's It probably seems as though I don't believe you. That's not the case. Its just that I was so careful not to scratch it last night and it got scratched anyway. I have read of similar experiences by others who have the Vision:M as well.
I wish I could return mine and get a different color, it really upsets me that a $300 item that is meant to be hand held and used heavily scratches this easily!! If anyone from creative is reading this, I would like to know what you plan to do about it! I didn't pay all of that money to have this player look like Sh*t when I am only using it the way it was intended and am being very careful at that!

Can You Use the Open In GarageBand button when doing Artist Lessons or is it just me? I've downloaded Bubbly and made a perfect recording but I can't click the Open In GarageBand Button. Is this suppose to be like this.

In the free lessons 8 & 9 you won't be able to click on it, also I don't think the paid lesson allow that either...

Basic lessons download - then get an error message

I'm trying to download some of the basic lessons. They look like they're downloading, but when I get to the end, I get an error message. Anyone else having issues?

The message is "GarageBand was not able to complete the download." I have been getting this message constantly on both the basic and artist lessons. If there are failed downloads left in the queue there is a link in the lower right corner "Click to resume download" and that will re-queue the requests. However I am encountering several download problems and delays in getting the entire free and paid for lessons. Sounds like a server load issue.

Where are piano lessons on GarageBand? They are on my MacBook and my nephew loved it and we assumed that it was all part of Garageband but now that I have downloaded GarageBand on my nephew's iPad, the lessons don't show up.

GarageBand for iOS is a different app and does not have all the features of the desktop version. I could be wrong, but I don't believe that the iOS app has those lessons.
