Can't download Disable Private Browsing Add-On ~ Not Compatible w/ Firefox 20.0

I am trying to download/install the Mozilla "Disable Private Browsing" add-on/extension. (See this link to see the add-on I'm referring to: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/disable-private-browsing/)
However, whenever I try to download it/install it, it says "Disable Private Browsing could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 20.0"
How can I fix this?? Is there another Disable Private Browsing add-on that IS compatible with Firefox 20.0??
I really need this add-on feature asap. It is very important that Private Browsing is disabled as a quickly as possible on my laptop. Note: I have a MacBook Pro Laptop - OS X.
Please help.
Thank you

  • Can I permanently disable private browsing

We use covenant eyes to track all internet activity on our devices, but private browsing prevents this from being 100% accurate. We can see that private browsing has been used, but we don't know what was accessed. Can we permanently disable private browsing or lock with parental controls?

  • I just noticed Private browing option, has this been downloaded or automatically added? I dont want my kids up to no good, as how can i check what they're looking at? Can you delete the private browser?

Can you delete the private brower option

That has been a feature in Firefox since Firefox 3.5 was released in June, 2009, it's not '''new'''.
Sorry, that feature can't be "removed" without breaking a security part of Firefox, and the developers didn't provide a "switch" to allow parents to turn it off. What's even worse it that there is a Bug filed to disable Private Browsing when the Parental Control's that are built into Windows Vista and Windows 7 are turned on. Nothing has been done to fix that Bug in almost 2 years since that Bug was originally filed. <br />
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471658 <br />
Hell, there hasn't even been a comment posted in that Bug in almost 7 months. I have done everything I can do as a support helper to make the developers aware of how important this Bug is for parents, based upon parental feedback here - that has been accepted as ''' "Thanks .... So it's on average 2 requests for this per week." '''
In all honesty though, even if that Bug is fixed a child can just delete their browsing history in any browser quite easily; sure you'll see that it has been deleted, but you still won't know where they have been. You really need to install some Parental Controls on that PC that tracks the web sites that are being visited outside of a web browser, and can only be accessed with a password.
I don't have any recommendations for that type of software, as I haven't needed it myself. Never had any children, and if I did even my grand-children would probably be old enough not to need monitoring like that.

  • How can I disable private browsing for middle school students on school laptops?

Hello, I work for a school district and one of the schools within the district is a digital academy meaning the students work completely with laptops. The grade level of these students range from 6th to 12th grade. We need to be able to install pulgins to block explicit content and then disable private browsing's ability to subvert them. They are working on laptops provided by the school with an ubuntu linux derivative running on them. the version of firefox is 5. I have tried the solution from http://kb.mozillazine.org/User:Dickvl/Private_Browsing_disable
and it works with firefox 4 but not 5. Please Help! No matter how closely a child is watched you cannot watch them all the time and parents as well as teachers need to know what kids are up to.
    -Thanks

Thanks dmcritchie! I was out all last week on summer break so I was pleasantly surprised to find your post and to find that you are right!

  • How can I remove private browsing as an option on the Firefox Menu? My kids use this computer and I don't want them to be able to private browse.

I want to remove the Firefox menu option for Private Browsing because my kids and teenagers use this computer. How can I do that? Private Browsing cannot be an option for my children. If I cannot remove it, is my only option to remove Firefox altogether?

This is new. Read carefully the section "About this Add-on". Not 100%, but there is no real way to totally take PB out of Firefox; that is also the case for other browsers that have a similar feature, as far as I know:

  • How Can I desable the private browsing?

I'm trying to use Tumblr and others apps. and I can't have access to my acount cause it appears a message telling me that I have to check out my cookies preferences more expecific private browsing.

The developers didn't provide any method of disabling or hiding the Private Browsing feature.
You can hide the Menu items for turning Private Browsing on and off, but the keyboard command will still turn it on:
Add this code to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css userChrome.css] below the @namespace line.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration#How_to_edit_configuration_files

    #privateBrowsingAutoStart

There's a Bug filed to disable Private Browsing when "parental controls" are enabled, but that won't help WinXP users - only Vista & (probably) Windows 7 users - but there's been no action to even work on that Bug.

See comment#26, by me, and the response it generated from one of the developers. The developers seem unwilling to do anything, even to restore Firefox 3.5+ versions to the previous state - sans Private Browsing.

  • Where will the files get stored when downloaded in private browsing

I CANT FIND THE FILE WHICH I DOWNLOADED IN PRIVATE BROWSING...
    CAN ANYONE SOLVE THIS?

It shouldn't make a difference whether you download in normal mode and in Private Browsing mode.
The file should be in the location where you saved the file.
Unfortunately you do not keep download history, so you can't check it that way.
You can check the default download location or possibly try to download and save the file another time to see under what file name and in which folder the file will be saved.

You can set the browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes pref to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first start after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and you can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue

Can I use the "Private browsing" mode on mobile?

Firefox for mobile does not yet have a built-in Private Browsing mode. However, you can do private browsing in a separate or temporary profile, by running "fennec -P" in the N900's Terminal app, or by using the [https://addons.mozilla.org/mobile/addon/mobile-profiles/ Mobile Profiles] add-on.

I have children who use the family computer and I don't want them being able to view websites without me being able to monitor what they are accessing. Is there any way to remove or password lock the private browsing feature of mozilla?

Trying to solve this at the application level is wrong, as there are far too many workarounds (manually clearing or disabling the history in Firefox, other browsers with private browsing, embedded browsing components in other applications).
[https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471658 In future versions] having the Windows parental controls enabled will disable private browsing, but by far the best method of spying on your children without them suspecting you are is to log the network traffic either via your router settings or by using [http://www.wireshark.org/download.html Wireshark].

  • How do I disable private browsing on my computer?

I don't want anyone to be able to private browse using my computer.

There is no built-in option to disable private browsing. You can remove the menu items for opening private browsing, but it will still be possible to access it using a keyboard shortcut.
