When I go to download Illustrator I am being told I am running an OS Illustrator no longer supports, though the system requirements clearly state OS X 10.6.8 is supported.

If it is the most recent version you are trying to download, then the new minimum is 10.7. You can try to download CS6 which works but the latest version of CC doesn't.

Have you checked Help>Updates within application.
Is it still not showing the Illustrator 2014.1 to update?
If you still don't see the update then rename the AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat file to AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat_old and
recheck the update with in application.

If you still facing the problem then SIGN OUT from Creative Cloud Desktop app and rename OOBE folder.
Windows 32 bit
Using Explorer, navigate to \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\.
Rename OOBE to OOBE_old.
Windows 64 bit
Using Explorer, navigate to \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\.
Rename OOBE to OOBE_old.
Mac OS
Using Finder, navigate to /Library/Application Support/Adobe/.
Important: Perform these steps in the system Library folder. If prompted, enter your Administrator password.
Rename OOBE to OOBE_old.

You can't install Microsoft Windows, nor copy Microsoft Office onto the iPad as Microsoft havn't made app versions of their software - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes App Store on your computer or the App Store app on your computer, 'normal' PC or Mac (OS X) software is not compatible with the iPad (iOS).

I've recently downloaded the free trial of Illustrator CS6 and I love it! Unfortunately, I seem to have deleted it, and when I try to download it again through Adobe Application Manager it always says that Illustrator CS6 is "up to date" even though I don't have it! Is there a reason I can't download it onto my MacBook again?

You have four options that I know of.
1) Use an external DVD drive that will work on the MBA. (Apple's external Superdrive for MBA)
2) Use a remote disk connection, using another Mac with a DVD drive, and sharing the drive with the MBA.
3) Download Office from Microsoft's website, and then use only the registration code that came with your DVD purchase to authorize the registration.
4) Copy the contents of the Office DVD to a USB flash drive, using another computer. Then install from that flash drive.
Maybe someone else has an idea, if none of the above will woek for you.

If you need to reinstall Mac OS X 10.8.x (there is no 10.8.6 yet, by the way), restart your Mac, hold down the Option key so you see all the bootable partitons, and boot to the Recovery Partition. From there you can reinstall Mountain Lion. You will need a good Internet connection.
