Can't download linked file anymore?

I just recently bought a new PowerBook G4 and gave my mom my old one. Anyway, I was on Safari tonight and I discovered that I can no longer download a linked file and that whenever I want to hear a clip of a song in Safari, it doesn't play. I'm confused about this considering I don't think it should be any different from my previous Mac. Any ideas? Thanks!

Apparently, the iPhone starts downloading the movie with Edge, downloads 4 seconds, then switches to WiFi and stops downloading. If I turn WiFi off, YouTube videos download fine with Edge.
WiFi works fine for maps, emails, safari.....
Not sure why it won't work for youtube movies.
UPDATE: even with WiFi on, and the iPhone using WiFi to start downloading the movie, it stops after 3 seconds.

There have been some reported problems with Apple's servers.
    Try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
I assume you are trying to update via wifi. You can also connect the iPad to your computer and update using iTunes.

They work just fine. whatever issues you have are specific, but without proper system info, browser info and other details nobody can even begin to guess.

  • How can you keep the file name when using "Download Linked File As..."?

I'm a longtime PC user finally making the transition to Mac.  Some of the tasks that seemed so simple in Windows have really stumped me!  One of the tasks I do frequently is download files into specific folders.  After much looking, I finally found the "Download Linked File As..." option if I right-click on the download link.  The problem is, when I choose this option, I lose the file name.  I get a window in which I can choose the desired folder, but the filename is always "0".  If I want to keep the filename (and I usually do), I have to type it in manually.  Is there anyway around this?

Just checked on 10.7.4+, still the same, something is borked about your install, to see if we need to re-install...
To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account?

  • Where can I download adobe File Packager tool for Windows?

    Dear all,
I need to understand the detail format of f4f files, but the only useful information I can find is the following:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/httpdynamicstreaming/pdfs/httpdynamicstreaming_wp_ue.pdf
Is there more detail specification for f4f ?
Where can I download adobe File Packager tool for Windows?
It seems to me the following specification is not correct for f4f, at least the parts talking about "mdat" box
    http://download.macromedia.com/f4v/video_file_format_spec_v10_1.pdf
    Thanks,

As per your question – follow this link http://www.adobe.com/products/adobe-media-server-family.html, download and install AMS Starter, then inside \tools\f4fpackager you’d find the F4F packager command-line application.

  • Download Linked File in Mavericks Gone

Where in the world is "Download Linked File" when you right click in Mavericks Mail? Has this feature been removed? I used this feature constanty.

Yes I see what you are saying.
If it is a downloadable file like zip it should download if you click on it.
If it is a pdf link for example you click it and it opens in Safari automaticly. Here you can command P for print but then save as PDF option.

  • "Download linked file as".....

Whenever I use Safari 8 on Yosemite to download a file from OWA (Outlook Web Access) via "Download linked file as".....the file downloads as Attachment.ashx (this happens as well using "Download linked file".
This does not happen when using Firefox, Chrome or IE.
Anyone else having this issue and if so have you been able to fix it?
    Thanks

hmm... clicking on both opens up the Save As dialog, which you can change the filename.
    anyhow, doesnt matter.

  • Download linked file  contextual missing ellipsis

Under Tiger 10.4.2 Safari 2.0 and 2.01 (on two macs a G4 QuickSilver & G4iMac) the contextual menu item DOWNLOAD LINKED FILE no longer has an ellipsis.
In prior OS or prior Safari versions the command via the ellipsis and a further dialog, allowed user to choose the download location on the fly. Now it is just auto downloaded to the SET download location defined in the preferenes (primarily used before for SAVE operations). Not fun if you wish to save a file to a different location on the fly as it worked before.
Apple can you add/put that feature back?

Wow! Thanks. An answer just 17 minutes after I posted the question. Many thanks. It WORKS too.
My daughter had the problem & I could not figure it out or find an answer. Spent 3 days mucking about. I guess I have lost too many neurons in my brain!
    Thanks again.

  • "Download Linked file as..." loses filename

I'm having a problem saving gmail attachments.  "Download linked file as..." works fine, but the filename defaults to "0"!  How can I get the original filename in the "save" box?  I just want to save the attachment directly to a drive of my choosing with its original filename.  I know I can open the doc and save from there, but I'd prefer a solution rather than workarounds!
I'm on Maverick and using Safari to access Gmail.

I just checked a pdf and "Download linked file as" does give me option to save where I want for pdf, jpg files and others.

  • Safari: how to autofill filename when using 'download linked file as' option

I usually need to download email attachment to specific folders, not to the downloads folder. When I use "download linked file as" I get the option to choose the location, which is great, but the filename is '0'. I don't want to have to cut and paste the filename every time - why doesn't Safari grab the filename automatically, as it does when you just click download? Is there a way around this? It's a big workflow issue for me, and the reason I switched to Chrome previously .. surely there's a fix for this basic function though?
I'm downloading from Gmail running in my browser.

  • Can't download .zip files

When downloading from file sharing sites, I can't download .zip files. Downloading other compressed files such as .rar is automatic upon clicking on the file. How do I change the settings to include .zip files. Thanks

Below is a link I uploaded myself. It is a few random songs I zipped and uploaded to the file sharing service Hotfile. When I attempt to go to the link myself, safari will not open the page and it also will not auto download the file as it does with other compressed files such as .rar. If I compress the file in .rar format or simply upload an MP3 to Hotfile or Rapidshare, I can click on the link and it automatically downloads.

  • "safari iOS"  "download linked file"

    Hi all,
I'm the proud owner of a new iPad. One of the websites that I visit regularly allows users to "download linked file"
I can do this perfectly happily on my desktop PC with MS Internet Explorer, but I just can't see how to do this with iOS and Safari.
    Can anyone enlighten me, please?
    Thanking you, in advance.

Many thanks to those who have replied to my query.
What I should have mentioned is that the files whic I was trying to access/download are in MP4 format and will play on the iPad.
Again, my thanks for any help which you may be able to offer.
In that case, you may need an app for playing music files other than the standard music app. I know there are some specifically geared to downloading music files, but have no firsthand experience with them.

My downloaded song stops suddenly halfway through. I assume there was a problem with the download. Can I download the file again?? Will I have to purchase the song again?

You need to delete the current copy of the broken track from your library before it will be offered up for download. It may help to close and reopen iTunes.
If the problem persists and you can't get a good version of the file contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • "Download Linked File As" Does Not Work

As others have noted, although Safari is an excellent and fast browser, there is one feature that is quite annoying, namely that all filed download by default to a single folder selected in preferences. Internet Explorer (and Firefox, I believe) by default allows the user to save to any folder selected at the time. In each thread I've read noting this problem, someone answers that the solution in Safari is to right click on the link and select "Download Linked File As" then direct the browser to the folder. The problem is that this does not work as Safari downloads only the link (or something else) but not the linked file. For example, if the linked file is a PDF, under "file type" PDF does not appear, only "All Files" and once the download is complete you have an entry in the desired folder but not the file itself. (This is true even if you append the proper suffix to the file name; no actual file.) Is there a solution here or does it really take several steps to get a downloaded file into the folder of choice?

I just checked a pdf and "Download linked file as" does give me option to save where I want for pdf, jpg files and others.
