Can't download mail

I am unable to download mail. None of my settings have changed and I am able to send mail. When I try to download mail from my ISP, Mail identifies how many are on the server but it says 0/kb downloading. The sound that indicates new mail plays. I can log on to my ISP and see that the mail is there. This just started happening yesterday.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I found something in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1970893&tstart=0 which helped me with this issue today. One Cox mail account would download email fine, but another Cox mail account on the same machine would not download email, even though both accounts could send email. By selecting Account Info, I could see non-downloaded messages on the Cox POP server, but they would not download to my Inbox. My older Macs would download those same messages for the account without issue. Deleting a "stuck" message from the POP server seemed to work a couple days ago, but not today. Deselecting Use SSL got around today's inability to download mail.

Consider using the Thunderbird email app. http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/
It's probably better than Mail app for Panther.

IOS mail app can't download mail

I've got an IPhone 5, running IOS 8.1.3. For the last week or so, the built in Mail app is not displaying any new mail from my Register.com email account.
It flashes a "Checking for mail..." message, quickly says that it's downloading mail, and then it says "Updated Just Now", like normal. But no new mail is displayed. I tried deleting and recreating the account; login information never changed. I've reverified correct incoming and outgoing mail servers as well.
Anyone seen this behavior before?

I have the same problem when i want to download update in apps store. The apps store is using other account, which is not mine so i don't know the password and eventually can't download apps. Can' t understand how this could happen because i'm using my own personal ipad an have logged on in my ipad's setting using my own apple ID. Contacting apple support doesn't help either.

I'm using Mail 2.1.3 & when I tried to open an e-mail I received last month I got a message to the effect that it had "not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." How do I do this?

I have had this before, do not know what causes it, but have found if I shut down Mail and reopen, I can then read the emails.

Can't download mail from the server icloud account

My icloud mail account will not download messages. I'm unable to access my inbox.
The message displayed when I push to download is can not connect to server.

Does your ISP offer a separate account for additional email addresses or are additional email addresses what is called an "alias" account or address to the primary account?
A separate account for an additional email address with the same provider has its own user name.
An "alias" account or email address to a primary account shares the same user name and password as the primary account.
You can created separate accounts in Mail with the same provider which has the same incoming mail server and you can use the same password for both accounts as long as each account has its own user name which is usually the portion of the email address in front of the @ sign and with some providers it is the entire email address.
I have set up the 2 email accounts within Mail, but when

2nd email account, I get an error message saying something

This error message indicates the additional email account you created in Mail shares the same user name and password as the primary/existing account which you cannot create as a separate account in Mail.
If so, there is a way to access an alias account or address to a primary account without creating it as a separate account.
If so, do not delete the additional account created yet.

I'm not keen to download a combo update because of the large file size and my slow bandwidth in South Africa (over 6hrs to download probably).
Where can I find an update for Mail 3.6 only?

You need to buy an external hard drive with at least 20% more capacity than your internal hard drive (or larger, since even terabyte hard drives are pretty inexpensive these days), and then use software such as SuperDuper, or Carbon Copy Cloner to make the backup. I prefer SuperDuper, but it's your choice.
After you've made the initial backup, you need to do it every day to keep everything preserved, and especially do it before you install any system updates; that way, if something does wrong, you can restore your system from the backup and not have lost anything.
why does Apple releases large system updates that have issues?
They don't intentionally do that. No OS is without bugs, no matter what the engineers do, and Apple does extensive testing in-house to find problems, but they can't test it on every system they've ever released that it will run on, or even test all possible scenarios; they focus on the more recent Mac models (not just the most recent models they released; they do go back several models in the line and test also).

Where can I download Mail program?

One of my Macs has a corruption somewhere in Mail. All I want to do is junk the old copy and download a nice new fresh version of Mail hoping that solves the problem. I cannot find it on the website, all help welcome!

What type of problem are you having?
Are you sure it's the application and not the preference file?
If not, before trying to reinstall the application-which will do nothing for you if it is the preference file-you should try resetting Mail to default by removing Users/~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. It's also a good idea to try Mail in another user account to see if it has the same problem.

Can't Download Mail when Sitting in the Inbox

After installing OS X Mountain Lion my Mail application will not download new mail from my IMAP account if I have the Mail app open and am sitting in the Inbox. Neither a manual "Get Mail" or the automatic 5 minute check for new mail will work.
If I switch to view any other mail folder (other than the Inbox) - the waiting messages will download immediately to the Inbox (assuming there are new messages to recieve).
Not a show stopper but it's annoying.

It's McAfee. A little while ago I noticed all the issues with McAfee involvement so I just made the recommended changes - after a few minutes of testing, that may have been the cause - will continue to check it out.

TS3276 can't download mail from windows live account. I have deleted and re-set up the account but still won't work. I can go online and access with no problem or get mail from other apple devices.

Firefox can find plugins in several locations, but Firefox 21 changed the location of the "shared" plugin folder so older installers like the Microsoft Windows Media Plugin no longer drop the DLL file in the correct location.
There apparently are two ways to address this:
(1) Change a Firefox preference so that Firefox checks the old location. Here's how:
(i) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the filter box, type or paste '''plugins''' and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click '''plugins.load_appdir_plugins''' to switch its value from false to true.
This will take effect after you restart Firefox.
(2) Copy the plugins folder to the new location. Here's how on Win 7 64-bit:
Open a Windows Explorer window to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Right-click and copy the '''Plugins''' folder
Double-click the '''browser''' folder to open it
Right-click and paste
Right-click the new copy of '''Plugins''' and rename it to '''plugins'''
After restarting Firefox, the plugins in that folder should now be available.

Using POP3, possible downloading mails without the attachment?

I am constructing an email client, with limited system resources, using JavaMail and pop3. I can only download mails that are about 8kb. So if an email has a large attachment I can not download it. I am however still interested in what the textual body of the email says. I know that the header information can be downloaded without downloading the whole email but can the textual body be downloaded without downloading the attachment?

As far as I know, you are unable to do this with the standard POP transport protocol since the attachement is actually a part of the body (encoded, multi-part), so there is no specific way for the server to know where the text body ends and the attachement body starts (most servers are mail content ignorant).
I suppose you could try to intercept the incoming TCP data and cut the communication short the moment you intercept a part seperator (the attachements normaly are at the end of the message .. yet this is not guaranteed as far as the RFC is concerned).
play around with:
com.sun.mail.pop3.POP3Message.getContentStream()

This started today when I was prompted to re-enter incoming mail server passwords. I re-entered passowrds yet again to make sure they were correct. Rebuilt the inBox. Connection Doctor continues to show all green lights, but am still unable to download mail to the inbox. Has anyone else ever run into this problem?

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2. My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone). Try deleting that app, then see if you have the same issue.

Since the update to 7.0.1 I am unable to open download updates to IE 8. Nor can I download a fresh version of AOL 9.0vr or download attachments from web beased e-mails. Is there a problem with Firefox, please?

I have several problems.
1. I cannot download attachments from web based e-mail accounts (AOL & Tesco.Net) without Firefox crashing and having to be restarted.
2. I can no longer start Internet Explorer 8
3. I can't download a new version of IE 8 or AOL 9.0VR. The .exe files download and run but the remainder of the download and installation process does not happen.
