Can't download OS X Lion on my comp during recovery.

My uncle gave me an old Mac Pro with OS X Lion on it. I had to wipe the whole system to delete previous owner data ad all of the files. It was full and working slowly and I didn't need any of it. Once I tried to donwload Lion again using recovery, it said I did not purchase it. So I purchased it, waited until my order was confirmed and complete and tried again. However it still says that my apple ID did not purchase OS X Lion even though I did. Help please. Oh and the disc drive isn't working so i cant download it to the disk and then use it. (If i have to download it, can I use a USB storage device for 4 gb instead?)

The purchase of Lion now provides you with an email with download codes. you must follow all directions until OS X Lion show up on your Purchases page in the Mac App Store:
Storing the download for re-use require a USB thumb drive of 8GB or larger, or a Dual-Layer DVD. Once the download is complete, you must cancel the Install phase and make the image at that point -- if you let it install, the download is discarded. Search for "Lion Diskmaker" for procedures.

To try to solve your problem I would first boot into the Lion Recovery Partition by restarting your computer while holding the down the Command - R keys until the chime. When you get there, I would run DIsk Repair from the Disk Utilitites folder. Then I would also run Repair Permissions. These may solve your problem. If necessary, if those did Not solve it, you can run a reinstall of Lion from right there in the Recovery Partition.
And. personally, I never work on correcting the OS without First having a backup copy available on an external harddrive. In case bad things happen.

You don't. For a while, Apple sold 10.7 usb sticks, but they don't now. See if you can find one of them lying around. Otherwise, the mac app store is your only option. (P.S. To even get 10.7, you have to call Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE and buy a download code. Lion is not availible on the app store without a code).

No, it is picking up my Apple id. I have re-entered it several times. It shows all the apps that I have purchased. It was a clean install, and I used Migration Assistant to move things over from my MacBook Pro. If I click on download on my Macbook Pro in the app store, it wants to re-download the app, which is strange in itself. I don't have any system discs with it. Although I do have a original disc of Snow Leopard. Just seems odd to me that I can't download Lion, but I can buy ML.
Somewhere on a thread, I found where it says you can hold down the option key while clicking on purchases and that will be a work around....not for me.
And of course you can no longer purchase Lion, (even though I already did). It does give me the option to purchase Mountain Lion though.

So, yes, as @GreatGold said above, you can download and use Mac OS X Mountain Lion on up to 5 computers provided the other computers are owned by you and they are associated with the same Apple ID through which you purchased Mountain Lion.

I bought the Mountain Lion software and I can't download it from the Mac App Store. It's in my list of purchases but when I press download nothing happens.

It is a very large download, 4+GB and takes awhile, based on your internet service. Many folks later reply that it was quietly downloading in the background when they thought nothing was happening.
