Can't download pix from my camera

Using iPhoto 6.0.6 - just hooked up my camera to download pix - and my camera doesn't show up to download pix.
Wondering if it's the new 8 GB card I am using - have had no trouble downloading from this camera before (Canon Digital Rebel). I have waited quite some time - thought maybe it was taking a while because of the size of the card. Back of camera blinks 'busy' for a while, then nothing.
Any thoughts?

I was having the same problem. I have a Rebel XT and I could download fine to my iBook G4 but it stoppped working to my iMac (intel).
I changed the setting in the camera to "PRINT/PTP" rather than "PC CONNECTION". The manual for the camera states that you should NOT set it to "PRINT/PTP" if you are connecting the camera to a PC, but it works.
I can now download RAW and JPG files no worries.

I can't download pictures from my camera ( CANON EOS 1100D) on my Macbook Pro.
I can download pictures on other computers so it's not a cable problem. I can connect memory sticks to the Mac, so it is not a USB port problem.

The prompt won't appear if the photos were originally synced from a computer, if they were taken with the iPhone then there are instructions on this page for how to disable/enable the prompt (the page is specifally about disabling the prompt, but it's the same process to enable it).

Try to import from your camera with Image Capture instead of iPhoto. Does that work?
Do you see your camera as a disk on the Desktop?
Can you open the image files from te Finder?
That wizzard-icon is puzzling. Have you used your camera with a PC and perhaps reformatted the SD Card from a different operating system? Then I'd try to import a different SD Card, that has been reformatted in the camera.

Can't download photos from my camera into Elements 9.0

Have Elements 9.0 which I just installed in October. I cannot download photos from my camera . On the ORGANIZE workspace I see no FILE, Get Photos, Help, Edit or even how to download the patches to make it current 9.0. I seem to be missing some critical menu's. I used Elements 4.0 for a number of years and it worked just fine. I've wasted a lot of time and it is not clear to me that the situation I have has ever been encountered by anyone else. Any help would be appreciated.

Good questions and thanks for trying to help me out. I’ve evolved through part of my problem but I know more than I understand. Here is what I’ve done and what I’ve observed:
1. The menus in the top row left side are missing. That is FILE, EDIT, FIND, VIEW, WINDOW and HELP are nowhere to be found. The right side of the top row is OK (Sign In, Create New Adobe ID), Undo, Redo, Display, Home and –?X)
2. I then installed Elements 9.0 on my wife’s new Window 7 computer. It looks just fine. Everything is as it should be.
3. I had an idea a shifted the my computer from medium (125%) fonts to small (100%) fonts. Everything looks fine. I went and rechecked my wife’s notebook and it has medium (125%) fonts. So my Windows computer with 18” monitor will not display PSE correctly at 125% but my wife’s notebook will! It is hard to read, I’m 75, but it works.
4. I have no idea what causes the problem but I can use PSE just fine if I don’t mind straining to read. So it looks like I have a solution to my original problem.
5. I tried to email a photo from each computer and that doesn’t work. Separate problem and I find that others have had the identical problem. At least I can describe the problem well enough to find all sorts of responses on the Internet.

Download pix from my camera to my iPod

I just bought my iPod 5G 60GB and the camera connector, but I can't download my pix from neither of my cameras (Canon EOS 350 D/Digital Rebel XT and Canon PowerShot G5).
When I plug in the connector, the iPod gets ready to get the pix, but when I plug in the USB cable to the camera and switch it on, the iPod doesn't recognize it and won't fetch the pix.
What can I do?

I found a tip to that issue.
One must find a CF/SD/MMC reader or whatever kind of memory card one has.
Switch on the iPod, set it on "import photos"
plug the CF/SD... reader in the iPod camera connector,
plug the memory card in the reader
click on "import Photos" and wait until the iPod tells you "ready to connect"
and now one can plug the iPodcameraconnector into the dock connector of the iPod.
Do follow the process without bypassing anything: one might freeze the iPod and have to reset it (happend to me, God knows why)
Normally it should be able to download the pix.

Can't download photos from digital camera after latest software update

Hi,
since the latest update on the 28.9.08 I have trouble downloading photos from my Canon Eos 400D. I can't use "Digitale Bilder" anymore, nor Adobe Bridge Photo Downloader or iPhoto. I have to use my partners MacBook that doesn't have the update yet. Could it have something to do with the RAW-Compatibility-Update? And does Apple know and do something about it?
Or can I fix this myself?
I'd appreciate help.

Since I downloaded Yosemite, I can't get my Mac desktop to recognize my Canon PowerShot SD1100IS Digital ELPH camera. I've gone into Preview, Finder and Image Capture and it's not there. How do I get my photos onto my computer from the camera?

Can't download video from Canon camera

I have a video in my Canon PowerShot SD300 Digital ELPH camera that does not download into iPhoto. I can watch the video (292mb) in my camera, and iPhoto recognizes that it is there, but does not download it. When I click to download the video, the computer behaves as if it is downloading, but the video does not appear in the library when it is done. I've tried looking for it elsewhere on my computer, but can't find it. I've thought about trying to pull it directly off the camera using the desktop, but the camera doesn't show up in the finder, only within iPhoto. How can I get this video!?

I have seen this exact behavior with large video files. You have 2 basic choices:
1) Use Image Capture (in your Applications folder) to download the video. In IC you can select "Download Some", see the files on the camera, and select just the ones you want to download. With a file this big I recommend doing one at a time. Set it to Download to your Desktop, and be patient. Ignore the blue Progress bar, as it seems to go from 0 to 100 very quickly, when in fact the process has just begun. It may seem like nothing is happening, but wait long enough and it should complete.
2) Canons do not appear in the Finder, as you have observed. Instead of uploading via the camera, use a USB card reader to mount the card. Then you can simply drag the video files to your Desktop. The Finder seems to copy much more quickly than Image Capture, and its blue Progress bar is much more accurate. Another advantage is that you don't have to worry about the camera's batteries dying during the download.
Either way, once the videos are on your desktop you can import them into iPhoto, then trash the desktop copy.

I just bought a Nikon Coolpix L100 and have taken some pictures. Okay, here is the problem: I can't download them. It says that it is compatible to Mac and I have followed all of the directions. I am thinking that the answer is pretty easy, but I haven't found it yet. I am not the most "tekkie person" but do okay. Does anyone know what I am "missing?" Thanks for any help out there. Puzzled.

You must have iPhoto '08 or '09 for RAW support for the Nikon D5000 - you posted in the iPhoto 4 forum

You don’t get the Organizer with the app store version; so you would be best to buy the boxed product or download the 30 day free trial from Adobe which is the full product.
Otherwise if you are prepared to operate differently to how you did in Windows, you can use the iPhoto Library with the Elements Editor set up as your external editor or simply use the app on a stand alone basis, opening images in the editor directly from folders.

Can't Download Photos from my Camera into iPhoto

Hi, I've been trying to download my photos from my Casio Exilim camera into iPhoto. Whenever I do, iPhoto shows me that the photos are downloading, but at the end it shows me an error message saying, "Error Downloading Image: iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading the image". I've also tried to access my camera from the desktop, and copy it to another folder, but I had no success with that either.

Have you tried Image capture (in your applications folder)? Have you tried a USB card reader?
It sounds like your card format probably is bad - how long has it been since you formatted it?
Once you get your photos off you should use your camera and format it - and in the future do not have iPhoto erase your photos but use your camera to format the card

If you mean photo stream photos, they can only be access from an iOS device or computer that is signed into your iCloud account with photo stream enabled.

The iPad 1 can't run the newer operating systems. It'd be like trying to play a bluray disc in your 6 year old dvd player....it simply lacks the hardware to make the software run.
No suggestion about the camera, but given that Apple's attitude seems to be to focus more on the more mobile devices for photography (the iPhone and Touch cameras got features, the iPad and mini didn't), that is highly unlikely. You can tell Apple what you want, but you'd probably be money ahead to get a digital camera.

Photos from cameras or scans have only one layer (the 'background' layer).
You can start with that 'background' layer and duplicate it or add other layers in the editing process. For instance you can make a selection of a subject and put it on another layer; a common use is to desaturate the 'background' and to keep the color in the selected subject in your newly created layer.
