Can't download to Aperture 3 or iPhoto 11.

Things were working perfectly until yesterday.
I was able to plug in the camera and have either Aperture (checked Prefs so that it would open and download to Aperture).
I tried changing the Pref to download using iPhoto.
Neither worked.
The SD card works.
I was able to download to Aperture using a SD card reader.
Previously, as soon as you plugged in the camera, the application would open and download your selected images.
I checked the USB cable and was able to download from the camera to another computer.
The camera still takes great pictures, but I can't figure out why I am unable to have the application sense the connection and then download.
In other words, the Mac Mini works, the camera seems to work, the USB works.
Is it the camera or I'm afraid they'll blame the Mac.
Any ideas what's wrong?

I went to the Finder >Help > About Image Capture > Open Image Capture and got this message:
Item cannot be opened. It may be disablede or not installed.
Apparently, it wasn't installed and I sent the camera in for repair since it's still under warrantee.
I'll be lost without the camera for a couple of weeks.
It's a weird problem.
I was able to download to a Windows laptop with no problem.
Using the camera's proprietary software yielded no results either.

This is our resident iPhoto guru, Terence Devlin's, advice:
You can move your iPhoto Library to an external disk or new Mac:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I can not open my Aperture or Iphoto library

I have the application Aperture where I edit pictures and can not seem to open it today when I try the message "To open this iPhoto library in Aperture, it first needs to be upgraded.Verify that you have iPhoto 9.4 or later. Then open the library in iPhoto to upgrade it." I upgraded Iphoto and then tryed to open Aperture while Iphoto was closed and I got the same message. Then I tried to open the Iphoto library and now the message "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable.Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup. Aperture was not open at the time so I shut down then restarted my computer. The same Message Appered. Then I tried to rebuild the library by holding down the option and command key I tried all of the rebuilding options and when I went to rebuild it the same message opened in iphoto. Help me! I am a photographer with a website and need to get this up and running fast. I wanted to cunsult with Apple Support Communities before I make the trip out to the apple store.

Also when I went to finder to see it the library existed its now labled Iphoto library copy. I have a time capsule and restored it back by a day and it didn't work I still got the same message in aperture and Iphoto.

Upgraded to Mavericks, can't download compatible version of iPhoto

Yesterday I helped a friend upgrade his iMac to Mavericks (from Mountain Lion), so that he could run the same version of iWork as was on his MacBook.
The upgrade went fine, except for iPhoto.
The existing version of iPhoto is too old to run on Mavericks, and the version he can download from the app store is Yosemite only.
I've had him follow these instructions: Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X
But the version of iPhoto that he can download through the Mac Store Purchases tab warns him that it will only run on Yosemite.
My understanding is that old versions of software should always be available to download through the Purchases tab, so I'm assuming that this is a bug with the rollout of Yosemite and will be fixed at some point.
In the mean time, does anyone know of a way around this?
As far as I know there's no way to copy iPhoto from my computer to his? And since everything is through the app store, I can't think of anyway I can download an installer for him.
Would appreciate any suggestions,

PS. I am aware I could upgrade him to Yosemite but I'd much prefer to wait for 10.10.2 before doing so.

What I can suggest, is to update your OS to Yosemite.
Its supposed Apple is not going to give an older version of iPhoto just to run on Maverics because every Mac running Maverics is available to run Yosemite as well.
This is why I suppose you can't find a version of iPhoto to use on Maverics anymore.
This is my suggestion, an let me say Yosemite is an amazing OS, I'm using for months, since the 1st public beta.

I haven't been able find where you can download the upgrade although I have found the trial version as well as the version for new buyers.

Yes, I downloaded the trial while I'm waiting for my boxed version to arrive to authorize and migrate my full library of photos. The trial version IS the upgrade for those of us already using Aperture.

I tried to upgrade my iPhoto '08 to a newer version, but the new version won't run on OS 10.7.5 and now I cannot open iPhoto. Is there a way to uninstall the recent upgrade or reinstall a version of iPhoto to will work on OS 10.7.5?

Yes you may be able to. Download, launch and apply the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 to your library and then try to open it with iPhoto 9.5.1. The upgrades will be installed in your Applications/Utilities folder.

After upgrading to 3.4 and then 3.4.1 I can't email from aperture or iPhoto

I use outlook. I select a photo, press share, then email, and it says it is processing the photo but nothing happens, just ignores the command. Any ideas?

This is probably a consequence of the new security features in the new MacOS X releases - the sandboxing.

AS the owner of an older mac I sometimes want to upgrade software, but not necessarily to the latest version. AT the moment I'd like to upgrade iphoto to 9.4 so I can use the icloud sharing of images. IS it possible and if so where can I get these versions?

Depends on what version of iPhoto and of the OS you have, wich you do not share? if you have any version of iPhoto '11 (version 9.x.x) then simply update it under updates in the App store. If you have at least OS X 10.6.8 nd an older version of iPhoto then yu must purchase an iLife '11 DVD - Amazon ro eBay are sources

I can't download garageband, iMovie and iPhoto because it says that the apps were already assigned to another apple id

I reinstalled the mac os and when I open the app utility, it shows that I have these three apps ready for download. I sign in with my apple id, but the dowload is blocked because it says that they have been assigned to another apple id. This probable refers to the previous owner. Apple support (phone) stated that after the reinstall, the apps should be available to me. Any ideas anyone?

It certainally is a mess. The other previous owners Apple ID is associate with the Mac, and best buy just reboxed it without checking anything apparently. I would call them and complain and see what they say. Also, call AppleCare and tell them you recieved incorrect information last time you called. They have a record of the last time you called and why. They need to help you. This is not your fault.

How can I download photos from Mac iPhoto? (Programme error)

With five discs to choose from, and advice to use discs 3-5, I wonder whether I have made a mistake in installation - disc 4 didn't work so I installed 3 and 5, which seemed to be duplicated. Has this caused the programme error?

And what exactly has Adobe PS ELements to do with iPhoto? Or are you merely mixing up the names? You did install the correct discs as listed here. If you have specific questions regarding the usage of PSE, ask on the product forum.

All my Aperture and iPhoto photos disappeared

I was getting ready to upload photos to mpix. I was exporting photos tweaked in Aperture 3 from iPhoto. Because the picture file to which I was exporting was full, I cancelled the export and deleted the photos in the picture file (about 790 photos). These had been imported from iMac through drop box. I then resumed the export of 45 photos from iPhoto and noticed some were gone. Not sure of the sequence next, but checked Aperture and it seemed like all my projects and photos (about 9000-11,000) were gone. Went to trash and moved dragged the photos out of the trash to the pictures drop down file in finder. I then restarted the computer and tried to open iPhoto and it seemed there was no iPhoto library there at all. Very strange.
I have not backed up my macbook pro for about a week.

I downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and was able to recover all the photos and albums, but not the slideshows and a recent calendar. I would like to understand what happened though and how to avoid it in the future. So here are the answers to your questions.

Several weeks ago, I had transfered a large volume of photos from my older iMac using the drop file with the computers networked. I did not delete them from the drop file after importing them into my IPhoto and/or Aperture libraries on my laptop. After this import, neither my iPhoto nor my Aperture libraries on the laptop were comprised totally of these imported photos though.
"An external drive?" Although I also pulled some of the photos I had imported earlier from an external hard drive, I did not delete the files or otherwise connect (through a firewire cable) to the hard drive when I deleted the photos to prepare to upload the ones for printing.
Over the weekend when I went to export photos to this same file I decided to delete the hundreds/thousand or so, that were still there, so that I wouldn't have to search through them all to upload them to an online printing service. After I deleted the photos in the drop box file, when I went back to iPhoto I notice some photos were gone. Where they had been in the album I had created to print, were the empty dashed line outline box. I don't remember if I restarted the computer then or after I checked Aperture, but at some point, thinking that might restore things, I restarted the computer. After restarting, that's when iPhoto was just completely empty. No photos at all. When I checked Aperture it was the same - all the photos were gone.

"Were the images in your Aperture library referenced from your iPhoto library?" Some but not all. Some were downloaded directly from my camera to Aperture; some were imported directly to Aperture from the drop box. Some I did import first into iPhoto. Also some of the photos originally imported to Aperture I then moved to iPhoto to make a calendar.
I am very concerned about this. Is it a software defect? Did I do something wrong? Is there a more efficient and less unstable way to get some, but not all of the photos from my iMac onto the laptop?

Hi there. I have had numberous problems with my upgrade to IOS6, particularly with the Camera/Photos. Two big ones: The camera does not orient itself properly when taking horizontal photos. You take a horizontal photo and it never rotates properly. So I have to go into Photo Shop and rotate each one manually. Sometimes it does not recognize horizontal from vertial when taking as well.
Also, I can not download ANY videos to iphoto or via Image Capture. The error I get for every video (both new videos shot after upgrade and those that date back to before the upgrade): Import Error An error occured while importing. The item ZZZZ.MOV was not imported.
I have all my software updates on both my phone and computer.
Any suggestions?

I would try restarting you Mac if you haven't already. If you still can't get either iPhoto or Image Capture to work, you could try something else, like PhotoSync or PhoneView.

If your machine supports it, then you can enable mirroring in general (using the Airplay icon in the menu bar), and the screen is mirrored. This will apply for all apps.
