Can't download video from Canon camera

I have a video in my Canon PowerShot SD300 Digital ELPH camera that does not download into iPhoto. I can watch the video (292mb) in my camera, and iPhoto recognizes that it is there, but does not download it. When I click to download the video, the computer behaves as if it is downloading, but the video does not appear in the library when it is done. I've tried looking for it elsewhere on my computer, but can't find it. I've thought about trying to pull it directly off the camera using the desktop, but the camera doesn't show up in the finder, only within iPhoto. How can I get this video!?

I have seen this exact behavior with large video files. You have 2 basic choices:
1) Use Image Capture (in your Applications folder) to download the video. In IC you can select "Download Some", see the files on the camera, and select just the ones you want to download. With a file this big I recommend doing one at a time. Set it to Download to your Desktop, and be patient. Ignore the blue Progress bar, as it seems to go from 0 to 100 very quickly, when in fact the process has just begun. It may seem like nothing is happening, but wait long enough and it should complete.
2) Canons do not appear in the Finder, as you have observed. Instead of uploading via the camera, use a USB card reader to mount the card. Then you can simply drag the video files to your Desktop. The Finder seems to copy much more quickly than Image Capture, and its blue Progress bar is much more accurate. Another advantage is that you don't have to worry about the camera's batteries dying during the download.
Either way, once the videos are on your desktop you can import them into iPhoto, then trash the desktop copy.
Regards.

  • How can I download video from Canon HF20?

Please help me. I just need to download video from my new Canon HF20 to my computer. I hear you can use imovie 08 but how?

I have a Canon HF11, but I imagine the problem is similar. I'm working with iMovie '08 on a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 with 3 GB of RAM. I normally import from an old Sony TVR530 (flawlessly).
This is apparently the deal with iMovie '08 and Mpeg-2 Camcorders... Apple stinks at working with them (at least for my setup).
The files are .MOD, which is just Mpeg-2; no problem. You connect the camera and it auto-recognizes the FS11 (in my case), but doesn't begin import. You select a manual "movie import" and it says there are no files to import (there were 187 files in the folder). Very frustrating.
BUT! It will recognize the movies EVENTUALLY. Yes, it's true. Just connect the camera and wait a good 10 - 15 minutes and it will finally come up with the import clip window. Not that you're in a hurry or anything. THEN, to rub salt in that wound, it takes minutes to import seconds of video. I have a 14 second clip that took 3 minutes to import. FOURTEEN SECONDS! All these little basketball game clips are going to take an HOUR to import (according to the application).
My first pass resulted in an import of about 21 clips before iMovie crashed. I'm trying again now and HOPING the imported video will not show degradation when it's all done. I'll let you know.
(I'm still mad that my wife's PowerBook 1.5 GHz cannot play a simple YouTube video without looking like a 10 fps flipbook animation. GET IT TOGETHER APPLE! You're supposed to be the multimedia guys!)

  • Can't download photos from canon camera

Since I downloaded Yosemite, I can't get my Mac desktop to recognize my Canon PowerShot SD1100IS Digital ELPH camera.  I've gone into Preview, Finder and Image Capture and it's not there.  How do I get my photos onto my computer from the camera?

Same here... I have a Powershot Elph340HS and a SD960IS, I've updated Canon ImageBrowser and CamaraWindow and it just says "no camera detected"... so I used a different usb to make sure it wasn't that, I've tried everything, Preview, iPhoto, even iMovie... all of which worked before for importing from my cameras...

  • Need help with conversion progrma for MTS video files.  Can't download videos from Sony TX-10 camera

Have new macbook pro 13".  Can't download videos from our Sony TX-10 camera.  I understand I need some kind of conversion program for MTS video files.  Need recommendation for a good conversion program to convert the video files.
    Thanks, chieftd

Well, sigh, that's not going to work.
I love how I can do months of research to choose the best camera for my needs and budget, which is NO easy task these days, but surprisingly find it on the unsupported list when it's a very popular camera.  So, while it seems to support a whole bunch of other AVCHD options from Sony, not the NEX cameras.
The NEX cameras are the latest generation of mirrorless cameras (which, ironically, are great b/c they give dSLR quality still images while actually producing HD video that always records silently and stays in focus b/c it's mirrorless).  The NEX 7 was just reviewed as Camera of the Year.
    Bleh. Oh well. Maybe someday.
And, for anyone reading, Roxio Toast Titanium did convert it just fine but it took about 20 min or my time to set up a handful of clips and then a couple hours to complete converting them for the quality I was looking for.  One was about 10 minutes of a kids' performance on Christmas and it took a long time. It's just not feasible given how many video clips I do with the camera a week - well, feasible when you consider all the cameras where this would be seamless.
Thanks for posting your reply - I appreciate it.

  • I can't download pictures from my camera ( Canon EOS 1100D).

    Hi
I can't download pictures from my camera ( CANON EOS 1100D) on my Macbook Pro.
I can download pictures on other computers so it's not a cable problem.  I can connect memory sticks to the Mac, so it is not a USB port problem.
I did install the software provided by Canon (after I tried to download pictures and noticed it does not work). Why doesn't my macbook pro recognise my camera ? Thanks. Leacoulet

The prompt won't appear if the photos were originally synced from a computer, if they were taken with the iPhone then there are instructions on this page for how to disable/enable the prompt (the page is specifally about disabling the prompt, but it's the same process to enable it).

  • Can I download  video from iPhone 4s to iPod touch 2

can I download  video from iPhone 4s to iPod touch 2?

This what I've tried so far:
Downloaded photos from the iPhone to the computer.  Videos and photos transferred without problem.
Plugged in the iPod Touch (2) and all photos synced just fine, but no video appeared.
While the iPod was connected I looked In the menu bar of iPhoto, when I chose movies, none were listed.
I cannot find an item listed in the settings menues that seem relevant.
I have emailed the movies successfully from the iPhone 4s.

  • I can't download photos from my camera. instead of a camera listed under devices I have a new icon named wizard.  help?

I can't download photos from my camera.  My camera used to show up under 'devices' when I connected to my Mac.  Today it shows an icon called wizard instead.  When I turn on the camera to start the download, empty picture frames appear, but no photos to import.  Can anyone advise?  Thank you!

Try to import from your camera with Image Capture instead of iPhoto. Does that work?
Do you see your camera as a disk on the Desktop?
Can you open the image files from te Finder?
That wizzard-icon is puzzling. Have you used your camera with a PC and perhaps reformatted the SD Card from a different operating system? Then I'd try to import a different SD Card, that has been reformatted in the camera.

  • IChat Error: "Can't get video from the camera"

When I try to Screen Share with iChat on a local network, I receive the error "Can't get video from the camera" when I have an external camera plugged into the FW400 port on my Mac Mini. The Screen Sharing feature works great when the camera is not connected. Anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

Tell us about the Network you created please.
What make and model modem ?
Can it route (issue IPs) ?
    IS there a router ?
Make and model of that please ?
If there are two devices which is doing DHCP if any are ?
IS there any computer that is sharing it's Internet Connection with any other computer ?
I take it from the title and the post that you infer you can Video and Audio chat ?
The Cannot get Video from Camera normally gets and Error Log pop up.
This can be opened with the reveal triangle on the left. The Details shown will have a Error number. Do you know what this log says ? (normally Error 20 or 21)
Old logs are stored in Users/(your account)/Library/Logs/iChatConnectionErrors by date.
IF you post an Error Log stop at the line that Says "Binary Images for iChat" as we don't need the bits below that yet.
As the Screen share in iChat uses an Audio component then the Camera if it is also the Mic needs to be ON.
In your case this may mean that in the ichat Video Menu both Camera Enabled and Mic Enabled should both be ticked.
(I have never seen an iChat error code for not (specifically) being able to get the Mic input so the message might be the only one iChat can pop up)
It does seem very odd that it only effecting Screen Sharing.
I have a Firewire connected DV converter that has two Firewire ports itself so I can input the camera feed to two computers. When this is in place the System also sees it as a Network.
I have also heard of one person with a Firewire Stills camera and I think the Storage space was seen as an External Device and therefore appeared Networked which is why I asked the first set of questions.
iChat does not like being in Two networks (a modem that issues IP address and a router doing the same or Wireless to a neighbour and Ethernet to your Own Internet connection, the Mac being the hub in a Share Internet connection, Wireless and Ethernet to the same router and using Parallels when set to Share the Mac's IP are the most common)
The Screen Sharing option in iChat > Video Menu is ON ? (at both ends ?)
As iChat's Screen Sharing is related to the System Screen Sharing and therefore Apple Remote Desktop you may find that in any routing device you may have to open ports 5900 and 5988 if not using UPnP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629?viewlocale=en_US
You said Local Network. Do you mean this is using the Bonjour Buddy List ?

  • Airport & Can't get video from the camera

Ok, So I've been reading through the discussions trying to figure out what's wrong, and then how to fix it. I keep getting error "Can't get video from the camera"
Here's my setup: OSX 10.4.4 on 1 Ghz PB. iChat 3.1.1, I'm connecting using a Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge with an analog camcorder attached. I can get a video preview, but no video chats.
My connection is via a DSL modem (Cisco 725) and my ISP says all the ports needed for iChat are not blocked. my local network goes from the Cisco to an Airport (dual ethernet) which then distributes the IP addresses.
I've read that airports need to be switched so that they do not control the IP addresses, but when I do that my network stops working. Is there any way around disabling the NAT on the airport?
    PowerBook G4 1MHz/1Gb   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi EdM
I think that I'm starting to see the light... Let me see if I have this right.
My PB has an IP of 10.0.1.4 via Sys Prefs, etc..
And the Airport is 10.0.1.1 and is distributing IP addresses (hence the 10.0.1.x IP numbers - right)
    Yep (so far)
So using Terminal I need to type:
set net entry add 10.0.1.4 5060 udp
    ...and so on...
Nope. You need to have Distributing Addrress deselected in the Airport if it is in the link
With the Modem doing DHCP you should get an IP from it (mostly 10.0.0.3 as the Airport will also be given one)
Once the Modem's issued IP appears on the Mac then you log on to the modem (10.0.0.1) in Terminal, and Forward the ports to the IP the Mac gets.
Your wife's PC is also likely to need some ports open for her Apps and this will be a different IP.
I have only brought some of the details from the Port Forward site so I would make sure you check any Read Me or manual (On the CD ? web site ?) that might give you more clear instructions.
I would set it up with the Airport Out of the loop first as this will confirm the modem is in DHCP mode (you will not get an IP otherwise).

How can I download videos from my IPhone to my PS Starter edition?

I am afraid to say that, but you cannot download it as PS Starter edition was a very old product.

  • "Disconnected from Screen Sharing because: Can't get video from the Camera"

Whenever I try to do Screen Sharing with another Mac (with Leopard), I get this warning:
"Disconnected from Screen Sharing because: Can't get video from the Camera"
It doesn't seem to affect video chats, which I can do just fine.

It's an AirPort Express, but the problem doesn't seem to be unique to the router. I tried it in another location with another router and it still didn't work.

  • How can I download videos from youtube with may MacBook Pro? I cannot download with real player. So how can I do it?

How can I download videos from youtube with may MacBook Pro? I cannot download with real player. So how can I do it?

There are two apps that I know of - and I would also swear that they come from the same developer, although they've different names. Both have free trials and both cost $40 (but both do 'other' video conversion as well).
One is WonderShare - I bought this one and it works very well for downloading YouTube videos as well as converting just about any file format you can think of.
The other is iSkysoft Video Converter (just noticed that it's now $36).
I tried them both and finally decided on WonderShare. Give them both a trial run and decide if you like either one enough to buy it. I don't know of any 'free' software that will allow you to download and convert YouTube videos, but perhaps someone else will come along and know of something...
    Good luck,
    Clinton
