Can't download windows media to macbook

I have tried to download windows media player to my macbook several times. I have tried version 9 and the player with quicktime components. The first loaded with an .sitx ending, but when i clicked on its image on the desktop, nothing happened. The second type opened with a .dmg ending, but it said that it could not run it on intel-based hardware.
What am I doing wrong here?
Is there a way to open windows media files with another application instead?
Thanks

If you are downloading Windows Media Player you will also need to download Stuffit Expander as Microsoft have used Stuffit to compress the installation file and Tiger now no longer comes with Stuffit.
Once you have expanded the .sit file you can then run the Windows Media Player installer.

Flip4Mac allows you to play Windows Media files through Quicktime, however it is not a universal binary so
a) you have to run the installer app through Rosetta to install Flip4Mac
b) Quicktime also has to run through Rosetta to play Windows Media files with Flip4Mac
c) Safari (and other browsers) need to run through Rosetta to play embedded Windows Media files on webpages
Is there a way to open windows media files with
another application instead?
VLC which is a universal binary

Am I the only one that see's the walled garden horror in that statement?
Go to a Office type store or online and buy a copy of Windows  7 Home Basic, Home or Pro  (whatever) and stick the 64bit DVD into the computer.
You'll have to first learn about Bootcamp  if your going to want to dual boot, it's complex and a hassle, but gives full hardware performance.
    https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Another way is to first install VMFusion, Parallels or VirtualBox and then install Windows into that, Windows runs like a file in a window on OS X. You can run Windows programs in that, but it's not as powerful as BootCamp method, but more convenient for most normal (non-hardware taxing) programs.

  • Can't download Windows Media Player-What else will work?

I get emails with WMV files and I can't open them. Is there a Mac program that will open them or is there a Windows download that will work?

Flip4Mac is the standard now. Windows Media Player for the Mac has, long ago, been abandoned by Microsoft.

  • Can't download windows media player firefox plugin

The download starts, but then seems to abort. I'm not savvy enough to see whether my firefox settings are causing the problem.

I only have Windows XP on my computer and can't download SP2 so can't install the firefox plug-in. Is there any other plug-in I can download?

  • Can't download Windows Media Player for X 10.5.7

When trying, I get a ".sitx" file, which--when opened by the Stuffit that comes with OS X--opens up an encrypted file. How can I do this? Or is WMP no longer workable for Macs?

Basically, yes. Use the free Flip4Mac player instead.

  • Can't download Windows Media Player

    Hello,
Could anyone give me an idea, what I do wrong? I am trying to download WMP from Microsoft website and from other websites providing WMP for OSX. I am using Mac Pro OS X Leopard. When I click download, file does download but it does not have WMP icon. When I double click the file, it opens by text edit and there is only chaotic code text. Same thing happens when I try to download plug-in for Real Player.
Thank you so much for any input.

You'll find more direct support straight from the Flip4Mac site. They have a good suer forum with an intelligent moderator, HERE.

  • After migrating to a retina macbook with mountain lion I can not play windows media player files with flip4mac anymore

After migrating to a retina macbook with mountain lion I can not play windows media player files anymore. I use flip4mac pro 3.0 and quicktime 7.6.6.
The message I receive is: De bewerking kan niet worden voltooid. (OSStatus fout -50). I also have problems with zip files that can not be saved on the desktop anymore while unzipping.

I actually installed Quicktime pro and Flip4Mac Pro again after I bought the Retina Macbook. Today I did it again but still get the same OSStatus error -50. I guess there is some old file that has to be removed. Flip4Mac comes with an uninstaller. Quicktime does not.
I read that his could be something with security that is why I mention the problem with the zip files as well.

  • Can I download Windows XP on my Macbook and if not...

Can I download Windows 7 without a disc?
When I went to go use Boot Camp Assitant, it told me that I NEED to download Windows 7 on my computer. Is there any way to get around this and instead download Windows XP?
If there is not, I can download Windows 7 from the Microsoft store and that will be a set amount of money, but can I use that with Boot Camp Assistant or do I need a legitimate CD? Can I burn whatever Microsoft gives me onto a CD and then use that? Or do I NEED to buy the backup CD?
The reason I ask is because a. I would like to do this all tonight, if possible and b. because it costs an extra $15 for a backup CD that I wouldn't necessarily need otherwise.

You also can't use a burned CD as Apple has formatted Boot Camp to not accept them (for obvious reasons.)
I haven't heard this.  You should be able to download Windows 7 directly from Microsoft.  They usually let you download either an .exe file or an ISO image.  Don't get the .exe version as that needs to be run within Windows (you could use this if you were upgrading Windows).  You can use the ISO to burn a DVD and use that to install Windows.

  • Cannot download Windows Media Player for Mac.....

On this intel-based mac, i cannot seem to download Windows Media Player, or Flip4Mac components for Quicktime...has anyone found a solution for this problem....although i think Quicktime is a really nice media player, Windows Media Player is used much more frequently and i need it to view videos that Quicktime Player cannot open and that are only available in WMA format..please help me!...

OK here's the deal, you can download www.flip4mac.com and load onto your Intel MBP. First thing to do before launching the flip4mac installer is to go to
Applications-->Utilities - Find the application "Installer" and right click- get info and check box "open using rosetta".
Go back to flip4mac installer and launch. It will now allow you to install onto Intel Mac. Previously, you would get an error not allowing you to install on Intel Macs. Should be gone now. Once installed, you can go back and change the installer back to original. Once flip4mac is installed, find the Safari app in the applications folder and right click- get info and select "open using rosetta". All Windows .wmv files will now play within the browser window and not download to your HD. The sacrifice is the hit in speed you'll take while Safari runs in Rosetta mode. But you can toggle on and off as you need.

  • Safari cannot download Windows Media Player

When I try to download Windows Media Player for Mac on my iTouch the message says Safari cannot download it. Is there a solution to this problem?

The answer is in your question. The iPod touch (not iTouch) is not a Mac.
To play Microsoft's proprietary WMV format you need to convert them on your desktop computer to one of the many open standards the iPod touch can play.

  • Download windows media player movies to itunes to ipod

download windows media player movies to itunes to ipod?  downloaded music ok

I saw that post... but it doesn't match the screen in Windows Media Player 0. On the Sync tab there is a Start Sync button a Edit Playlist button and Set up Sync button. The 'Set up Sync' button is always disabled.
I can't figure out how to get the playlists downloaded to the Zen Touch. Windows Media Player 0 would be the way to go if I could get the playlists to download.
I have played around over and over with the screens etc... I just can't figure out how to make them download with the Zen Touch anyway... 40 gig, for what it's worth.
If someone has been able to do this with a Zen Touch, I would love to know how to do it.

I need to run windows media player for an important service i suscribe to, (mlb.com). • Can't use Windows Media Player or get WMV (Flip4Mac) to work on Snow Leopar

After I upgraded to Snow Leopard, a friend told me I could download Windows Media Player for free to view some mpeg files required for a class I'm taking. I googled Windows Media Player Mac Snow Leopard and downloaded the newest version, and nothing. The window opened to a garbled mess. I posted a question about this on this forum previously and was told to use Flip4Mac instead. I've tried to use Flip4Mac at least 20 times and nothing ever happens. Before Snow Leopard, I would download it and it would just not work at all. After Snow Leopard I down loaded it again and now it's telling me I must have Quick Time installed. I DO HAVE QUICK TIME INSTALLED! I have the icon for QT and it opens (toolbar at top, etc) when I click on it. But WMV(Flip4Mac) is not recognizing it. Can't they just fix the Windows Media Player or SOMETHING so I can do my classwork without having to run to someone else's computer? Does anyone know what I should do?
