can't download xcode on mac says: Xcode can't be installed on Macintosh HD because Mac OS X version 10.7.4 or later is required.

You need to upgrade your operating system; call 1-800-MY-APPLE, ask for an OS X Lion download code. It will be $29 or so.

I am a new user on a mac. I was given a mac to use for work and I need to install Ruby, Ruby on Rails. The Ruby install instructions said to install Xcode first.
The mac os x is 10.6.8. I had a problem trying to install xcode because it said the operatin system version was not compatible .. Then I found xcode version 4.2 but it then said "Xcode Install Assistant can't be installed on Macintosh HD because Mac OS X version 10.7 or later is required."

The message kind of says it all. It needs a more current version of the OS to install. Mavericks is free if your machine meets the specs for it.

    You have two possibilities:
    1. Keep Snow Leopard and your actual iPhoto.
    2. Upgrade OS X.
If you want to upgrade OS X to get the most recent iPhoto, you can upgrade to OS X Lion or Mountain Lion. We are going to choose the most recent, Mountain Lion.
First, check if your Mac is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If it's supported, make a Time Machine backup and/or a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. The installer will download and it will appear when the download finishes, so you have to follow the steps to upgrade OS X. See if your programs are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
If your Mac isn't compatible, see if you can run OS X Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949 If you can run Lion, call Apple to purchase Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

    deaflori,
your “signature” states that you have a 13-inch Late 2011 MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.5.7 installed; this is an unlikely combination. If this is your model MacBook Pro, which version of OS X is currently installed on it?

  • Aperture can't be installed on "Macintosh HD" because Mac OS X version 10.10 or later is required.

    Hi
I have two MacBookPro, and Installed Yosemite to the other of them.
Since my Mac stopped working well, I do not attend to install Yosemite to the other Mac, but I keep my old Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63).
    So here is the problem:
"Aperture can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because Mac OS X version 10.10 or later is required."
What is the workaround for this problem?
    Thanks!

I found this (see below) it looks like your @Léonie solution is the answer to the problem.

Re: How do I reinstall an older version of Aperture from the App Store?in response to léonie | This solved my question
    @léonie
Thanks for your help with this. I've downloaded the latest RAW support updates supported on my machine - V4.09 that seems to contain all of the RAW formats for previous updated including V4.06, which includes the NEX 3N, my camera. After a short while (there seemed to be some sort of background processing ging on in Aperture) it started to allow my NEX 3N photos to be viewed. Some of the thumbnails were corrupted, but if I made a slight edit in each of these files, the thumbnails updated and all was well.
Prior to this, I raised a call with Apple, because the inability to reinstall software from the App Store that I've purchased from in App Store to a machine that supports OSX 10.7.5 and no later strikes me as a problem. I need to know that if my Time Machine backup fails and I need to reinstall, I've got somewhere I can go.
The support people at Apple were very helpful, and it feels like they recognise this as a problem, and are working to resolve it behind the scenes. The App Store will not allow me to download the last version that works on my machine at the moment, but it sounds like Apple is thinking about how to do this. In the meantime, they are shipping me a copy of Aperture 3.0 on CD, and sending me a registration code. This will solve my immediate problem.
This does make me wary about using the App Store for purchases in the future. I don't upgrade my hardware that frequently - I have no real need to as it just keeps working - and so not having physical copies of installation media for when the applications stop supporting my OS is a worry. On the face of it, maintaining prior versions of the software for older machines to download from the App Store seems like a reasonable solution, but they are not there yet, and there is no real commitment for them to do this. Anyone who doesn't back up their Apps in Time Machine (probably the majority of users) could loose them altogether when Apple moves on, and cuts app support for older OS versions.
Thanks to @léonie and @Frank Cagianno for your help.

  • Logic Pro X can't be installed on "Macintosh HD" because Mac OS X version 10.8.4 or later is required.

    Hello,
I want to buy logic pro x and i recieve this message: Logic Pro X can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because Mac OS X version 10.8.4 or later is required. what i need to do? thanks!!

Given you apparently are looking for a different answer to the completely obvious one....
    You can;
    1) Undress.. stand on one leg, wear a very silly hat... whistle "Dixie" and pray to the Gods of Apple that they will somehow magically install LPX for you...
    2) Spend your days in the studio wondering what "Mac OS X version 10.8.4 or later is required" actually means... and make up a song in your head baed on the resulting thoughts... Of course, you won't be able to actually record it but maybe thats not such a bad thing for the rest of the world..
    3) You could run out to the nearest Apple Store.. spend a small fortune on a new Mac that has "Mac OS X version 10.8.4 or later" already installed and use that to install LPX on.. even though your current Mac may be perfectly capable of running LPX.. if only you actually followed the advice given by Blueberry... and did what the error meassage you orginally received, told you to do...
    4) You could simply give up on music entirely.... and spend the rsst of your life.. meditating quietly in a corner.... waiting on the world to do everything for you....
    Seriously though...............
There comes a point when it's really hard to take such a question seriously when the answer is there, right in front of you...plain as day...
    A) Upgrade your OS X version and then install LPX
    or...
    B) Do not upgrade your OS X version and do not install LPX.. Do not pass Go.. Do not collect/spend $200......
    Pretty simple really!

    I'm trying to instal pages:
Pages can't be installed on Macintosh HD because Mac OS X version 10.7.4 or later is required.
    System Version:          Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)

The version of Pages, Numbers & Keynote available in the Mac App Store do require Lion or Mountain Lion but you could get a retail box of iWork '09 from a third party such as Amazon.com or eBay.

Do you know which MacBook Pro you have?
The thing is, you have OS 10.6.8, but you need at least 10.7.4 - The latest version is 10.8.2. You can go to the App Store and ugrade to 10.8 - It's called Mountain Lion and then iBooks Author should install fine.

  • Firefox tells me I'm up to date, but it also says I'm running version 16. I can't download a current one (says file can't be found).

when I got to Firefox > About Firefox it tells me I have 16.0.2
However it also tells me I'm up to date.
From a quick search, it looks like you're on twenty something!
I tried to download the new one (for mac, British English) but it says "file not found".
    Not sure what to do.

Current Firefox versions require OS X 10.6 or later, so if you want to continue using Firefox beyond Firefox 16 then you need to update to OS X 10.6.8 or later.

    Thanks

    Hi,
If you have the suite then you have to download the whole suite otherwise the Serial Number will not work, if you only download Photoshop. Once you download the suite you can choose to only install Photoshop and use the Serial number you have.
    You can download from here.
    Download CS4 products
If you get the message:Setup" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer , You can follow Fix the “App can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer” Error in Mac OS X .
**You can change it to MAC App store and identified developers afterwards.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The most recent GarageBand version requires OS X Mavericks, so you can't install it until you upgrade Mac OS X.
You can download Mavericks from the Mac App Store free of charge. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
