Can't drag a clip onto my timeline

I just opened my newly updated version of iMovie on my newly updated version of Mavericks. While it's nice and all that iMovie has been upgraded, I feel like I have to learn how to use the software all over again.
That being said, after figuring out how to create a project, I tried to drag my first clip onto the timeline and it wouldn't work. The clip was also red. I've read that others have had the red clip issue, but has anyone had a problem with being able to drag clips onto their timeline. I found older clips that I had no problem dragging onto the timeline. It's just this particular clip.
Problem is that this particular clip was an MOV file created in Voila as a screencast in exactly the same way that I've done with so many other clips before. I import them into iPhoto and then the older version of iMovie never seemed to have any problem with them.
Is there anything I can do short of re-recording this particular clip, which is 30 minutes long!
If anyone knows the answer, I'd really appreciate the help.

How are you trying to delete them?...are they all on one single track? What exactly are you referring to by your 'link button'? Do you mean the track selector just to the right of the 'lock' at left of timeline?
Try this...set an In/Out, make sure the track selector is highlighted, then hit delete or command-c (apple-c) to 'cut' it out.
If you want to delete more than one track at a time, you can option-click on the track selectors to select one or all.

Okay, so ya know when you drag a clip onto the timeline and it asks you if you wanna change the sequence settings or keep them. I usually keep them but this time I checked dont ask again and now its zoomed in and I feel stupid!

W cant help much with feeling stupid...
But create a new sequence and start again is what we might advise.

Can't drag audio clips onto timeline in PPro CC

It doesn't seem to be possible to drag an audio clip directly onto the timeline any more without first importing it into the project.
In CS6, I could drag an audio file like a .wav, mp3 or similar directly on to the timeline. CS6 would automatically add it to the project, it would be conformed, and its waveform would appear in the timeline.
In CC, it doesn't add it to the project, and instead it creates what appears to be just an empty placeholder in the timeline. There's no waveform, and no audio is heard when the sequence is played.
With CC, it seems you have to import it into the project first, then drag it onto the timeline, creating an unncessary extra step.
Also, if after importing that audio file into the project you then delete it, it doesn't get removed from the timeline, it just stays there.

Feature is still there, has not changed.

I am resizing clips but when I drag the clip onto the timeline, FCP shuts down.
This happens repeatedly both on Studio 1 and Studio 2

No my media is good and not a problem of where they are stored.
I have gotten around this by dragging the clip into the source screen and then dragging it into the sequence monitor. It's more time consuming but much less frustrating than having FCP crash all the time.

Yes, that little piece of info is critical. I'd say the biggest difficulty with FCPX is the whole new language.
If I read you correctly, your Audio is in the Main Storyline (Track 1 in plain old Editorese). This makes anything else you add (above or below) a "connected clip", which we can no longer think of as "Track 2" because Jobs sez so. So, yes, you cannot just add a transition to either end of a connected clip.
No argument with Tracy's solution, because I haven't seen any other general solution presented for any attempt to treat connected clips as the main storyline. And, of course, when they were "track 1" and "track 2", you could.
An alternative solution, however, is to highlight the connected clip and press Ctrl-V to bring up the Video Animation Editor. Click the "reveal button" for Compositing: Opacity (bottom, right). Once open, there is a "fade handle" to the right top. Drag it left for however much fade you wish. (there is one on the left as well, but you were only talking about a fade-out.)
A second alternative, perhaps for future projects where everything keys on audio, may be to create a Gap clip (used to be called slug) in the primary storyline before ever dropping in the audio. Then you can add video to the main story line and modify it without having to go thru hoops to do the simplest thing.

Why can't I drag a clip into the timeline?

I just loaded PP CD5 onto my Win 7 laptop. I can import movie clips into my project, but I can't drag any of those clips into the timeline. When I try to drag them, I get a hand with a "do not enter" symbol. No error messages of any kind.
I vaguely remember having this same issue when I loaded PP CS5 on my Win 7 desktop several months ago, and I thought I found something on the forums that told me how to fix it, but I can't find it now. Perhaps a change in the preferences?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Did you actually create a sequence? If not, go to File > New > Sequence, or drag one of your clips to the New Item icon at the bottom of the Project Panel. You can also click that to get the New Sequence option.

Can't drag down audio onto timeline from source window

Am using Premiere Pro CS4. If i have an audio only clip (WAV file), i double click and it loads up into the source window. i set my In and Out points as per normal, and then try and drag it down onto a normal audio track below .. doesn't work! the mouse/cursor continues to stay in 'scrub' mode on the audio source monitor, and this did not happen before!
Doing it with video clip (with audio) works fine, and i CAN also use the 'Drag Audio Only' icon that is there... but why has this changed? i'm used to dragging down audio (as I can with audio+video), and yet it's just stopped working.
This must be an option or button i've hit somewhere, and is not do to with mono/stero tracks or different sample rates. It's the functionality of the program that has changed, and i can't work out why and it's driving me mad!!

In CS4, to drag down the audio you don't click in the middle of the window like you do with video files, you click on the green bar directly below the waveform (or as you noticed, on the speaker icon.)

Can't drag audio files onto timeline

I can usually drag audio files (.mp3, .mov, .aiff) right into a project and it loads into either an existing track or automatically creates a new one.
I can't do that anymore as it loads up into an already existing track that has audio already on it and edited.
Simply cannot import new audio, on new tracks.
Any suggestions?

Premiere Elements 12 - The project stopped accepting new mp4 and jpeg clips onto the timeline. There are several there but when adding new ones they appear to place properly then immediately disappear. Any fix?

That is an unusual situation that you are presenting.
Have you updated from 12 to 12.1 via the project's Help Menu/Update? If not, please do so.
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 presumed 64 bit?
The usual drill
a. What is your project preset? What are the properties of your sources media? What is the brand/model/settings of the camera recording your mp4 and jpeg.
What are the pixel dimensions of these jpeg images and how many of them are there in the project (especially when the problems set in).
b. What is the size/duration of your Timeline content when the program no longer accepts new files?
c. Describe status of your computer resources. Also, where are the Scratch Disks directed and how much free hard drive space is at that location(s)?
Troubleshooting for Unexpected/Unexplained project problems...Deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 12.0 Folder in which it exists.

and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Let us start from the above and then decide what next.

Why is it, again, that I can't drag-timestretch clips and make them and snap to rulers? (in MT)

How come while 1'm holding control and dragging the edge of a clip to timestretch it, I can't make it snap to the rules, If I want to say bring it from 6 bars back to 5 bars why can't the timestretched clip snap to the ruler while I'm stretching it?
The Automation not being able to keep up continues to annoy me, and prevent me from creating certain effects on a couple of tracks, is there any effects arrangement (multiple efx perhaps) that anyone knows of that will create a tremolo effect that you can regulate with the settings? So I can bring the volume up and down fairly rapidly in rhythm?

I"m starting to figure out the automation, hard to understand the description of controls but I messed around with enough to notice some improvement in the recording of the mute on/off

I drag the original into the storyline
I set Markers (keyboard: m) to the original edit-points
I have the pre-selections of my material in the Events browser, set edit-mode to 'video only'/shift-2
set playhead to marker (magnetic is a good help), hit q
'fine tune' the edit (edit/colors/effects/...)
select clip and cmd-shift-arrow-down to apply final edit to the storyline
jump to next marker (ctrl-' )
That is a very fast way to 'dub' professional edits; and: I'm learning a lot, e.g. it is not only the edit-points, but the 'content' which makes a good edit 'flow' (which lacks my version) ...

Can't drag imovie clips to project window to export them

I just finished interviewing someone remotely where he was recording his video on his mac with imovie. The recording went great but when he tried to drag the raw footage to the project window so he could export them to me, he could not drag them. They just kept bouncing back. He does not need to edit the clips just export them to me. The files are not unusually big. Why can't he drag them to the project window?

Did he first - in the Project window - create a new project (PLUS SIGN - down to the right) ?
must do that first
then open this new project and drag event clips to it (I keep alt-key down when clicking down on one event clip to get all of it)

How I can to replace a clip in the timeline?

Is there a command for to replace a clip in the timeline? In a recent project I have replaced some clips to hand, deleting the previous and draging the one new in the gap, but this method is dangerous because it is possible moving the edit also.

You could drag the new clip to a track above the one you want to replace. This gives you a bit more security before deleting the old one.
