Can't drag mail to trash or other files in Mail in OS X 10.6.1

I just set my Mail up to connect to my company's outlook server. The problem is when i have to drag mail to a folder under the outlook inbox I get "an error occurred while moving messages to mailbox"

I started to write a long answer about printer set up and then I found the laptop I was using didn'g work like my desktop and realized that Epson has released an update for its printer driver.
Check your printer drop down box. The one that comes up after clicking print in the Aperture printer window. Click on the options window. It should show "printer settings" in the options drop down window. Thew older driver says something different like printer setup. It is their (under basic) that you can choose media type, color mode, and output resolution. It also has check boxes for 16 bit output, high speed, flip horizontal and finest detail. If you window doesn't have those things you need to update the driver. Rather than issuing a whole new driver epson has a download called common updater. run that and you may find it solves your problem.
One other note: your choice of paper may be constrained by the paper source you select (i.e.manual rear feed.)
Ink choice is constrained by media type
.If that doesn't help I will outline my whole printer flow that works for me.

Thank you. Found it in the Finder but it won't let me drag it into trash because it says it's still open. But there doesn't seem to be a way to quit out of the application...

Hi Thomas, I was trying to drag it from the Launch Pad where it just bounced back again. Have now solved it by dragging it from the Application.
    Thanks.

  • Why should i use Apple 'Mail' if i use others like G-Mail?

Simply:  Can or should i just remove 'A-Mail' so it's icon stops jumping & bothering me to sign up?
•THANK YOU, and gratitude to whoever can help me unerstan.
*I'm 67 and not up to speed on such things.
    BACKGROUND, if necessary:
•For years I've used only the Mail service of my ISP, Dslextreme ('DSLX').
I've never used Apple 'Mail' , & never set it up to service mail from any of the mail services that i do use.
I never activated 'A-Mail'  and i don't think there is mail in it.  Nor have i deactivated 'A-Mail', and it's still on my screen in the 'Dock'.
•But from time to time, and inexplicably to me,  the 'A-Mail' icon seems prompted to start 'jumping' and wanting me to use it somehow, like sign up for it.  This was a minor annoyance so i just clicked to close it and so ignored it and moved on.
This seems to happen when a website i'm on wants me to e-mail them and on their page i seem only have a choice to use 'A-Mail', none other, so i am pre-cluded from communication.
•Just recently DSLextreme switched all us users over to G-Mail.   They turned over their mail operation to GMail and urged us to also getting a G-Account, which i have finally done.
•I know that A-Mail 'works with the most popular email systems' like G-Mail.
•"A-Mail"  = Apple's 'MAIL'.   To avoid confusion caused by the generic word 'Mail',  I'm going to call Apple's 'Mail' "A-Mail".
I've spent over an hour trying to make my problem clear to you.    I hope i have succeeded.

Apple mail is simply the default email application in OS X. It is not an email service/email address.
Using an email application, you can read all your email in the same place and store them on your local drive.
To answer your question, "Why should i use Apple 'Mail' if i use others like G-Mail?"
You use a mail application for the same reason you use the internet when you could simply drive to the store to buy things or go get a newspaper or go to the library or go to the movie theater, etc.
But from time to time, and inexplicably to me,  the 'A-Mail' icon seems prompted to start 'jumping' and wanting me to use it somehow, like sign up for it.  This was a minor annoyance so i just clicked to close it and so ignored it and moved on.
This seems to happen when a website i'm on wants me to e-mail them and on their page i seem only have a choice to use 'A-Mail', none other, so i am pre-cluded from communication
because the website is attempting to open your email application.
Sounds like you simply use a web browser to view all your email.
If you want to send an email from a web page, you need to copy an email address,  open your email account in your web browser, create a new email and paste the address.

How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Can't drag disc to trash to eject

Everyhing seems to be working well with Mavericks except that I can no longer drag a disc to the trash to eject it. I have to quit the app I'm using (Toast, iTunes etc) and then open Disk Utility and select the drive to eject from.

Figured this one out! I just tried to eject it manually upon restarting computer & it worked this time. Upgrading to 9.0.1 too.

Dude, netiquette. Messages like "i need this now! Do it!" are really offensive and no one here is being payed to answer anyone's questions. We're here because we like to contribute to the community.
Anyway, in your case, just perform some search on how you could filter the files that are attached to the message. The sample module is just an example, you'll have to implement your own. Tips would be to query the filename of the attachments (or maybe content type) and for the ones which are not text, remove them.

  • How to uninstall programs from my mac pro that I can't drag to the trash?

I have several programs that I no longer use that I want to uninstall. Some of them will not allow me to drag and drop them in the trash. How do I get rid of the programs that I no longer want?

If they are third p[arty applications, go to the developers web site and look for specific instructions on deleting the application in question.
    Ciao.

  • Can I safely move to Trash all downloaded files from Downloads folder, for the purpose of freeing up storage space?

My Downloads folder has reached 30GB. I am not sure why I keep adding files without ever cleaning up what's there. As a matter of fact, what's there can easily be re-downloaded from the web in case of need.
Can I safely trash 100% of the content of my Downloads Folder?

They're your files, so it's up to you whether to delete them or not. I personally don't tend to keep downloads if they are easily re-downloaded. (An exception might be a large download that for some reason may need to be reinstalled.)

  • Can I create a template PDF (or other file) in InDesign, that my client can update images in?

I've designed a brochure for a client, and they would like to know if I can make a version where they will be able to swap out the images (and text) to update it for future projects.
This is perfectly fine by me, as I am taking on other clients and may not be able to do this for them in the future. I also know how to create the text in this way, as I can set up each header and body as a separate "form" they can fill in with Reader and save... however, I don't know how to make it possible for them to edit/replace the images without them having something like Acrobat.
Is it possible to create an interactive frame they can "upload" an image to and then save the PDF? They are a small business, so I'd rather not tell them they have to buy additional software. I'd also like to make it as easy for them as possible.
I am also aware, however, that even if an image can be embedded, a PDF may not be able to resize an image to fit within such a frame. I can, however, write an exe that will resize the images for them if needed. I just don't know how to get them into the PDF...
A template like this would probably be simple in HTML, but unfortunately the design of the brochure is beyond my ability to reproduce in Dreamweaver, and I also assume printing an HTML document would be a nightmare for the print shop lol.
Thank you for any help or answers, they are much appriciated

You can use the same forms method for images, but it gives you no control over postioning in the frame or scaling/cropping.
The bottom line here really is that this kind of editing should be done in ID, and if they want to do it they probably should invest in a license, even if it's just a month-to-month subscription when they need it.

  • Can't drag and drop or import into files

I moved my audio files from "c" drive to another drive and had a bear of a time getting itunes to recognize it...but after reinstalling finally it seems to be working okay... Except when I copy and paste my audio files into itunes nothing happens. When I import (or add a new file) I can't put them in a specific file. So all of my audio files are just in the big "my music" file which is a very big jumbled up file to sort through. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sandra

Now I believe that there was something wrong with the install. I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled the same package. It works just fine now.
It probably comes down to Windows disallowing a part of the install.
After I reinstalled, I was able to right click on my iPod icon and choose restore from backup so I could get my iPod back to the way it was. It doesn't seem to restore your "Folders", but it does get all your music and stuff back into your iPod's RAM.
I hope this solves your problem too. Take care!

  • "Empty Trash" removed other files.

This is rather frustrating, since I just received my MacBook Pro yesterday. I transferred a number of files off of my old laptop to a folder I created on the desktop, via USB Flashdrive. Also, I have a Creative Zen Micro that has all my music on it, and so I used the 3rd party program XNJB to access it and retrieve the music. Instead of putting the music into the Music folder, it put all of it into the Applications folder. After copying it all into the iTunes library, I removed it from the Applications folder, and cleared the trash. That not only cleared the trash, but also removed the folder I had created on the desktop, as well as the Music, Pictures, Movies, and Documents folders. I tried reinstalling using the reinstall discs, but to no avail. Help?
    MacbookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I suppose I should make a clarification. The help I'm looking for is how to restore the folders to the Library. The files are of no interest, as they are easily re-transferred

  • Can't drag and drop adresses in mail anymore

    Hello,
Since I upgraded to Maverick (OS X 10.9 (13A603)), I can't drag and drop adresses from the adressbook to mail anymore (even Cc or Cci).
(I did the last update of Mail)
Never had this problem with Lion or Mountain Lion.
I've seen in the forums that I'm not the only one, but I didn't find any solution.
    Any idea?

It means don't open the Contacts app, open in in Mail: ⌥⌘A
I found another solution: type the name of the address group I need in the to: field.
    Thank you anyway.
    That's just the Previous Recipients.
