Can't drag or drop in Itunes?

Itunes (11.2.2 for Macbook Pro 2012)
I can drag and drop in finder and other applications. However, I can't select and then drag and drop individual (or groups) of songs, or playlists in Itunes. For example, when I want to drag a song from one playlist or to another it doesn't "get picked up" when I click and hold down on the song nor does it follow when I try to drag it over to other playlist.
I did check that these were not smart playlists, the order of the playlists are manual, and I've tried just about everything from closing/reopening program to restarting computer and problem keeps coming back. I also know I can right click song and click add to but this is much more of hassle and actually doesn't work some of the time now too.

I don't use the new iTunes but yours is the only post I have seen stating this issue. The only time I have seen similar behavior is if you try to do this with a
bad link ( ! ). Additionally make sure the item you wish to drag is checked.
Dragging does not move an item, it adds it and leaves the original in place.

This was driving me crazy! You can't move tracks within a playlist or drag and drop content from iTunes to your iPod.
I hope that Apple will fix this soon! Until Apple fixes this, your best bet is to download iTunes 9. I did, and all my drag
and drop functionality is back.

I'm having the same problem, I can't drag and drop anything to or from anywhere in iTunes.
I've also found a workaround. It's a PITA, and a kludge, but it works every time. The problem is, it only works for one item or multiple items in a single folder at a time.
if you right click on the song, and select "Show in Finder", you can drag the raw file from the finder window into your ipod/ipad and into playlists.

What's going on with iTunes (10.4 (80))?
I can't drag and drop my songs, re-order my playlists or anything?? I can import a song into a playlist, but it just appears as the last item in the list, I can't place it where I want.
I've checked other complaints here, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer: is this a bug? Is it going to be fixed soon? If not, can I downgrade to a previous version?

I am having a similar problem. For some time I have had sudden loss of drag and drop so that I cannot even move a song around in a playlist, much less to another list. The only thing that stops the is a full system reboot. I have been waiting for a fix however version 10 is much worse. I am having this fail almost every day. I am running an internet radio show from my computer and use iTunes to set up playlists. When I have this problem happen, I have to kick my listeners off and reboot. This is NOT an acceptable situation. I am running iTunes 10.01 on a 2.8 GHz Core i7 iMac with 8 GB of onboard memory. This problem has been happening since at least version 9, however.
Somebody at Apple please fix this! Or tell me a workaround that does not involve me closing all other programs There is no excuse for this problem continuing.

Is the manually manage music and videos option still selected from under the iPod's Summary tab? What happens when you try to drag files over to your iPod Classic?

FIX for can't drag and drop to iTunes anymore

Just fixed this problem for my sister who updated iTunes to 11.5.1 and found drag and drop not working anymore:
Rightclick on the iTunes shortcut (or .exe in your Program Files).
Click Properties. Security and select your username in the list.
Click Edit to change the permissions and Allow full control.
Drag and drop will work again.

Can't drag and drop from iTunes after using Ion USB/ EZ Converter

I am new to transferring old vinyl to mp3, and want to make a CD.
I have the tracks in iTunes now- they play perfectly well, but I cannot drag them onto my desktop (to then transfer to Toast).
Before the tracks were reading as wav, but now they are mp3, however, I did use the "Create mp3 version" feature, so have I confused my Mac, but "re-mp3ing" my tracks?

Release the mouse when you see the symbol with the line through it; you should then be given the option to authenticate in the dialog which appears. Hi. I have not used Roxio Jam for quite a long time and I just wanted to make a few CDs. Jam used to work easily and well. I have a problem. I can't drag and drop iTunes music files anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the "+" or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? I trashed the preferences file and restarted Jam to no avail. I also have selected that Jam should open files with iTunes in the Jam preferences. I have a G5 DP 2Ghz PPC machine with OS 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2.1 and Quicktime's version is 7.6.4. I have 2 GB of RAM and the machine has dual 1.25 Ghz. processors plus a 500 GB HD. Can anybody give me any suggestions?

I found an solution.
Uninstalling AirParrot as well as the two offending AirParrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext files in System>Library>Extensions was the fix. All problems disappeared.

In iTunes I can't drag and drop podcasts onto my iPod anymore. I can still drag and drop songs onto my iPod and I can still drag and drop podcasts into other playlists. I've tried restarting my computer and my iPod and I've also checked for software updates for the iPod and iTunes. Help?

Update: I seem to have fixed the problem! I went to the "summary" section of my iPod after clicking on the device on the left side of iTunes. I checked the box that allowed me to "manually manage music and videos" and applied this option. The songs are syncing! And, yay, they're playing on my iPod now! Hopefully, this helps anyone else who might have this problem. There might be other issues, but this is working for now.

I connect the iPhone to itunes. that works. Everything shows up fine, but I can't drag and drop music from the 'music' section of iTunes 12 on my new mbp or my iMac. I used to be able to. you iphone does not work like a regular ipod, where you can drag and drop music, you must sync it with itunes. plug it into your computer, click on the icon that is labeled iphone. when you do this there is a section on the top that says music. click on that, then you can select playlists and artists, etc. then click apply. it should work then

I recently installed iTunes 4.3.5 and can't drag and drop music into my 'music library' anymore. Every time I try to drag the music from a folder into the library, that little circle with the line thru it comes up (not allowed symbol). I've been using iTunes for years and am pretty computer savvy... I have no idea what the problem is. The only way I can add music right now is if I go to File>Add File to Library and that takes way too long, especially when adding 20-30 songs. I am using Windows 7 and I have an iPhone 4. Nothing is going to stop you from dragging it in multiple times, but what exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to get iTunes to look through the folder and pick up newly added song files?

I can't drag and drop music from iTunes to my desktop since Lion upgrade. I just bought the music last month so it isn't iTunes ACC protected. I want to edit the song in GarageBand also.

I tried totalfinder before i upgraded to lion and i guess i did not make a clean uninstal so i downloaded the total finder dmg file and used the uninstaler and that solved my problem
The uninstaler did relaunch the finder wich could also been the fix
So i suggest you try and relaunch your finder
Here is how you relaunch your finder incase you dont know
Click on the apple logo in the top left corner select Force Quit and then select finder in the fore quit menu and click relaunch

Yes, that appears how Mavericks works right now. However, you can open the Address Panel, select all your contacts, then click the To (or CC, or Bcc) buttons to move the selection to the address field.
If it is not already in the Toolbar, right-click on the Toolbar and select Customize Toolbar…
Then, drag the address panel up to wherever you want it.
You may also want to add it to the New Message window in the same way.
