Can't drag to desktop in iPhoto 6

I'm using iPhoto 6.0.6, and it won't let me drag any photos to the desktop, it gives me a white circle with a line through it on my cursor when I try. I can drag fine within the program, but not from any albums or the library to the desktop. I've tried the suggestions I found by searching this forum - disabling and re-enabling Helvitica in Font Book, trashing the prefs file, and just restarting the computer - but nothing has made a difference. It's really starting to drive me nuts, because I have to go manually find each file when I want to do something with it outside of iPhoto. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Can't drag & drop photos from iPhoto to Finder.

    (I'm using iPhoto 9.4.2, mac OS 10.8.3)
I can drag & drop photos from iPhoto to the Finder once. It successfully copies however many photos I had selected to the folder I wanted them copied to. But then if I try to drag and drop any more photos, it won't let me - the cursor has a red bubble for qty. of photos and a gray NO symbol (circle with a line through it) where the Copy symbol should be (green bubble with plus sign in it).
Don't want to do the "Export" feature - I want to drag & drop.
Tried restarting iPhoto. Tried restarting my computer. Software is all up to date.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Sorry - but that is not currently an option - drag and drop (which is not a good way under any conditions since you have no control and simply get the preview of the photo) is either broken or has been removed - in any case no matter what you want it is not an option
The only current option (maybe the only long term option - no one here knows) is to export - this is equally as easy and gives you total control of the quality of the exported photos, the metadata included and is much easier to place photos within a finder folder structure

  • How can I drag multiple photos from iPhoto into a Word Document

I'm creating a collage of photos for a friend and in order to get the photos to the right size and print them without trouble I need to drag all of the photos from a certain album in iPhoto into an empty word document. Is there a way to do this? If not, why not?

It's best to drag one photo at a time from the open iPhoto window into the open Word document window.  Resize the photo.  Then drag the next one and resize.
If you have iWork a better solution is to use Pages.  That way you can resize the drag the photos into any location on page, even overlapping other photos, whereas in Word it has to be on a separate line or small enought to fit two on a line. You can access the iPhoto Library from the Media Browser in Pages without iPhoto  having to be open.

  • Can't drag and drop my iPhoto library on to an external hard drive (Seagate Go Flex).

I am trying to move my iPhoto library to an external hard drive (Seagate Go Flex wireless) but it won't let me drag and drop. When I drag the iphoto icon over the 'drop files here' it just disappears. No error message. I am running mountain lion. What can I do?

    Susie,
    (Seagate Go Flex wireless)
What is your iPhoto version? And your Mac OS X version?
With iPhoto '11 your iPhoto library needs to be on a drive formatted Mac OS X Extended (Journaled). Is your external drive formatted this way? If your drive is formatted differently, iPhoto will not be able to open the iPhoto library there.
When I drag the iphoto icon
And are you really trying to drag your photo library (from your "Pictures" folder) or your iPhoto application from the "Applications" folder? On MAcoS X 10.7 or later you will not be able to drag the application from the Applications folder.

  • Can't drag and drop from iPhoto

For what ever reason my iPhoto will no longer allow me to drag photos and drop them into files on my desktop. It was letting my do it this morning so I would assume it is more a glitch than a permanent problem, if anyone could give me any suggestions as to how I could get it back in working order that would be great thank you.
    It is a
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3
    and Iphoto '11 version 9.1.5 (615)

Hey Pencarnan, let's try to isolate this down a bit as there could be a few factors in play here.
Would you create a new iPhoto library (hold down option and click "new library"), add a couple pictures to it, and try to drag/drop from that one? I want to see if this is going to be an issue with iPhoto, or with the OS.
Let me know how it goes!

  • Can't drag and drop from iPhoto to iWeb anymore!

I used to be able to drag photos from iPhoto into a photo page in iWeb. Now when I do so, large versions of the photos show up, overlapping one another instead of fitting neatly into little boxes on the photo page like they used to do. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this and how to fix it? I have the latest versions of iWeb and iPhoto.
    Thanks in advance.

Never mind (duh). I was trying to put more than 99 pix on a page.
    Duh.

  • How can you take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in.

As the title says I need help on how to take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in. Right now when I want to move a picture from one event to another I drag it to my desktop then delete it from iPhoto then I drag it back into iPhoto and put where I want it.An example would be taking a photo from the Christmas event and add it to a specific person event.  Can I do that within the events section without all the dragging. Also is there anyway I can remove duplicates from iPhoto without going through each and every file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple doesn't make it easy to do what you want.  However, here's how I do it.
Select the photo you want to move and create a new Event for it via the Event ➙ Create Event menu option.
In the Event mode select the new Event with the one picture and drag it onto the Event you want to move the photo to.

  • Why can't i drag albums created in iPhoto onto desktop

This seems to be a desktop issue rather than an iPhoto one, as you can't drag from Mail either.
So I'd start by repairing permissions.

Drag one or more photos or a folder of photos from the Finder to the iPhoto icon in the dock.
In iPhoto, choose File > “Import to Library.” Then select the photos you want to import and click Import.

  • Why can't I drag a photo from iPhoto to a folder?

You guys - I used to be able to drag photos from iPhoto to pretty much wherever I wanted.  I'm currently trying to drag them to a folder, but it doesn't work.
I tried to email them to myself, THEN drag them into said folder, still doesn't work.
I had to open each of them in Preview, then save them as new files to the folder.
WHAT!?  That's insane.  Am I missing something or have all of the updates changed things so drastically!?
All of my business is up to date.  If this is what it's like updated, that is a bummer.

How can I drag a photo to the desktop

    Assuming you are using iPhoto....
You want to select the event that has the photo in it then click once on the photo so it is highlighted with a yellow ring around it and then click and drag it to the desktop.
If you are finding it difficult to move the file that way you can select the picture in iPhoto and select
File > Export (Command + Shift + E) and select how you want to export it (format) and where you want to put it .
    Hopefully this helps you.

  • Can't drag-and-drop from CD to Desktop

I can't drag-and-drop a photo from an Iphoto CD to the Desktop. I was able to do this on my old 17"IMAC. But the new 20" won't allow me to this anymore. Once I drag it past the Iphoto window the cursor has a circle with a bar across. The MAC person at CompUSA couldn't help. Can you? His suggestion was to drag it to the Iphoto library and then drag it out of the library to the Desktop. Huh?

In Iphoto, I select the albums I want to copy. I then hit burn CD. It then determines the amount of space needed. Then I hit burn CD again. Its begins burning the CD, then it verifies the CD, then ejects the CD when completed.
When the CD is re-inserted, Iphoto displays it as a regular album. I select the album, then a file, and attempt to drag-and-drop that file to the desktop. The cursor appears as a circle with a bar and it won't allow a one-step drag-and drop as with the old 17" IMAC.

  • Can't drag or import images into iPhoto

For some reason, I can't drag images into iPhoto or importing by going to "Add t olibrary"
As opposed to many people I have no problems draggin in jpgs from my computer, but I can't bring in images that iPhoto has sored from my didigtal camera.
In other words, when I import pictures from my digital camera (a regular Sony camera) it imports them no problem, and then stores them in separate folders. But if I ever want to grab images from those folders and drag them back into iPhoto it won't let me.

Try making a direct shortcut to the Organizer and then the Editor.
You should then be able to drag and drop on to the desktop icon.
On Windows right click on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Organizer application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
Inside the Adobe >> Photoshop Elements Organizer (yellow folder) you are looking for an application file “PhotoshopEementsOrganizer” with six small icons (e.g. representing thumbnails - could be different in PSE5 but look for the exe file)
    Select it and click OK
    Click next
Rename by taking out Photoshop Elements leaving just the word Organizer
    Then click finish
You should now be able to launch directly form the desktop by double clicking on the icon.
You can set up a similar direct link to the Editor application.

  • Can't drag photos to desktop

I often drag photos out of iPhoto onto my desktop, for various reasons, to work with them. I've done this for forever. All of a sudden, with a certain set of photos, it won't let me do this. When I try to place them on my desktop, instead of getting the little green plus sign, I get a white circle with a slash through it. This is only happening with a few photos that I edited (that's never mattered before). I don't know where to begin to figure this one out. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had that happen to me several months ago. I somehow got several thousand photos that refused to be edited or moved.
It turned out to be a corrupted external hard drive that I knew was failing and I copied my photos to my newer drive before the drive totally gave up. However, the copied photo libraries were corrupted.
Fortunately, I had followed Old Toad's advice* to make copies of the library6.iPhoto files, and I had backed them up to another external drive BEFORE the old drive ruined the photos. Although I copied the photos to a new drive, I did not do a back up again, so my library6.iPhoto files were still backups from the good photos.
I was able to retrieve these files from my backup iPhoto Library, and reimported all the 'good' photos from them to replace the 'bad' ones. It was tedious, but I recovered all but two photos!
Hopefully you have backups of your iPhotoLibrary?
    *OT's advice from his signature:
+TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.+
+I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.+
One thing I did that made it easy to see which photos were bad, was to mark them with the 'Hide' command. I had all of them in albums, and didn't hide them, but since they were marked with that X it was easy to identify them and put the good photo where it belonged. I had all my photos arranged chronologically, so it was very important to put them back in order.
