Can't dump cards and work in Lightroom simultaneously

Ever since installing Snow Leopard I can't dump cards from my reader and have Lightroom running. If I'm working in Lightroom and I put a card in the reader, the card doesn't show up. I have to quit Lightroom in order to dump cards and I'd like to be working in Lightroom while dumping cards. I need to multitask. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Do you mean:
(1) That the LR import process doesn't start automatically when you insert a card, or
(2) If you insert a card and start the LR import process manually (via the Import button) that the card doesn't show up in the available sources?
If it's (1) then check your preferences general settings...be sure "Show import dialog..." is checked.
If it's (2) then is the card mounted as a drive on your Mac? If not it possibly indicates some sort of hardware issue.
It's also confusing what you mean by "I have to quit Lightroom in order to dump cards...". This implies the card is mounted as a drive. Where the's destination you are "dumping" the card? And what do you do after the card is "dumped".
What version of Lightroom and OS X are you running?

I have a new IMAC with a Maverick platform (I can update to Yosemite). I did all graphics on a G5 Power PC (very old), in Freehand (very old)... How can I open old Freehand files on this new Mac? Can I still open and work in Freehand on this new Mac?

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

What I mean by "common metadata", is a unified, updated, most current metadata, which I could update in each program. That is without overwriting the metadata, but appending new keywords to the metadata I created in the previous program.
I use Bridge, then Lightroom and finally Photoshop. That's the regular workflow: Bridge for preliminary sorting and and adding some keywords; Lightroom for organizing and picking the best images; finally, Photoshop for processing. I got Photoshop Elements on trial. Doesn't work for my purposes.
I need to share and update the metadata / keywords when I go from one program into another. Can't retrieve metadata I set up in Bridge into Lightroom. Same happens with Photoshop, where I can't retrieve keywords I add in Lightroom. It's tedious to write up the keywords again.

Can iDVD 09 open and work with an iDVD project i made in 06?

I am bringing over my iMovie 06 and iDVD projects over to new mac with iDVD 09. I took out iMovie 09 and resinstalled 06HD. The iMovie 06 files now open ok, but not the iDVD 06 projects, when I try to open them with iDVD 09. Should I remove iDVD 09 and install iDVD 06.
I heard that iMovie 06 files will import ok into iDVD 09, but now assuming that the iDVD 06 projects themselves will not open in the newer program.

i uninstalled iDVD 09 and installed iDVD 06 to see if I could open the G4's old iDVD projects.
Error message says iDVD 06 will not work with this OS. What gives? Apparently iMovie HD06 will work, as far as I can tell, with just a few tests.
What CAN I DO HERE to bring over my iDVD 06 projects so I can work them on Snow Leopard?
Luckily the dvd projects are not many and not complex. But there are so many issues with all of this. I might as well have a computer that knows only Chinese characters. I got the new mac so my video work wouldnt clog up on the old G4. But this is beyond clog. This is cement, stuck at the starting gate.

Can Aperture import keywords and ratings from Lightroom?

Decided to download the Aperture trial, and imported 17,000 images without a problem until I realised that my keywords and star ratings are missing (and even some vertical shots are horizontal).
Is there a way to get Aperture to look at the sidecar files generated by Lightroom? Without that I'm unlikely to use Aperture for anything other than books that iPhoto can't do.

Unfortunately, no.
It might be possible by use of AppleScript (the script would need to parse the XML files and put this data into Aperture), but this would not be trivial to write and to the best of my knowledge nobody has done it.
It's a shame, as Aperture can export XMP sidecar files so LR will pick up Aperture ratings and keywords (but not adjustments) just fine.

Site built with Muse - can I buy software and work the site?

I just recently inherited a site, IVCDO.org, and was asked to make some changes. I was told it was created using Muse/CC, I don't have the software and there are so many css pages (one for each page plus a global and master) and full of so many code#'s for all the formatting that I'm having a hard time making consistent changes on each page. I'm not a pro designer by any means, but do understand most code. I see a file named muse_manifest.xml and a few other files like musemenu and musesslideshow - will I actually be able to load it and make changes?

It's my understanding that you'll need to have Muse to make any changes to the site. As far as I know, there's no "opening up the hood" and tinkering with the CSS and other files possible.
Not sure if this is the route you want to go just for one site, but I believe you can subscribe just to Muse. I've seen the price range from $9.99-19.99/mo. Of course, the full CC 2014 suite is $49.99/mo. which includes Muse.

Tiny print in 13 can't even read and work program without eye strain.

Installed E-13 and the print size in their program is so tiny you can't even use it without eyestrain. Just terrible been using Adobe Photo for many years what happened here and is there anyway to fix it?

Remote Question: Can't turn TV and Box on/off simultaneously

I have a motorola HD box and a Sony HD TV - I put in the codes in the Fios remote for the TV and it works fine but when I hit the power button only the TV or box turns, not both at the same time. i can't figure this out - I have the exact same set-up in my man cave and when I hit the power button everything turns on/off at the same time. I've tried calling Verizon and they are useless. Anyway, if anyone has any insight into this it would be great - Thanks.

Drivers assistance required for graphics card and fingerprint reader with W8 & Pavilion DV7-6B01ED

Hi - I own a HP Pavilion DV7-6B01ED and recently upgraded from W7 Home Premium to W8 Pro. Everything appeared to work fine except for the graphics card I have which now seems to always be on with the fan running, getting hot and running down the battery much more than before. I can not confirm what was reported as the graphics card in W7, but it is reported as the AMD 7000M after the upgrade. My invoice reports that it is a HD6490. Further to this, W8 reported an issue with this device in Device Manager.
Due to another issue (not hardware related) I decided to do a clean install of W8 which would also let me clean things up and to re-partition my disk.
In doing so I deleted the HP_TOOLS and the Recovery partitions. I'm not against recreating these but needed to delete them as I had 4 primary partitions and could not work within the restriction that comes with this. I understood from reading online that these can be recreated and the necessary tools re-installed (or another solution with DVD / USB employed). If the solution to my problems requires these to be installed, I'm happy to do so.
After the clean install, I continue to have the graphics card issue (same details as above) and the other issue I have is with the fingerprint reader. It shows up as an unknown device after W8 install (it did not have any issues after the initial upgrade I performed though).
So I've done plenty of things to try to rectify the issue and this includes installing the HP Support Assistant in the hope that this would help with the drivers. Instead of going through all the steps I've undertaken (I've read plenty in this HP forum and outside of the forum) and used certain W7 drivers, installed this that or the other program but unfortunately to no avail. I cannot get the fingerprint reader working and I still have a very hot and noisy laptop.
I'm good enough with OS and device driver installations and happy to get stuck into some unorthodox solutions if needs be. What can I do to resolve these issues?
Regarding the graphics card - is it a case that AMD have yet to release an updated driver? If so, I can live with that but in the meantime I would like to turn off the AMD card and work only with the integrated Intel graphics. Disabling the device in Device Manager does not seem to work. How do I do that?
The fingerprint reader is no big deal, but ideally I would like it working. What to do here?
If I need to do a re-install of W8 again and then get stuck into the driver installations I'm good with that, but would like to do it in a manner that will let me resolve these issues in the future without too much hassle.
The spec of my machine is: HP DV7-6B01ED 17.3FHD / i5-2430 / 8GB / 750GB HDD / HD6490

OK, so I thought the AMD driver worked. I had installed it before I posted to the forum but then the problem seemed to have returned. I'll have to play with the settings because just as I type this the fan has started for no reason, same problem as before. Is there any chance Windows Updates in interfering?
Regarding the fingerprint reader - it hasn't helped. In Device Manager I now see Biometric Devices > Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018). Is there some further software I require in order to use the device. I'm going to install SimplePass to see if that's needed.
