Can't edit a photo in Photoshop

I have no problem in general with editing raw images in Photoshop by using the "Edit In Adobe Photoshop CS3..." command. It's a regular part of my workflow. But one specific image refuses to open. It'll launch Photoshop, but no image is opened.
Running Mac OS X 10.6 and LR 2.5.
Anyone else seen this or have any suggestions about what causes this behavior?

I can actually open the file in ACR without problem. Seems like the problem only occurs when I try to open it from within LR. I guess I'll have to experiement with how any edits in PS will be treated inside lightroom after I save the file. Maybe I have to import the PSD manually into the catalog?

I'm not able to edit my photos from iPhoto in Photoshop CS5. I've already tried the Preferences and chosen Photoshop as my editing program. I can't even drag and drop the photos into Photoshop. Are you able to open and edit a photo outside of iPhoto with CS5? When you selected CS5 as the editor in iPhoto's preferences did you select the folder that holds CS5
or did you select the application:

Just unzip, find the Apps folder and look for the DropletDecompiler.jsx.
Then put your droplet on the desktop, Use File>Scripts>Browse in cs5 to navigate to the DropletDecompiler.jsx.

Using iphoto and editing multiple photos in photoshop

I set iphoto to edit my photos in photoshop. I tried to edit a group of photos at once, and it'll only open the first 4 pictures. Is there a reason I can't open more than the first 4 photos that I have selected? Is there a setting in photoshop I need to change that is preventing me from opening more photos?

As Larry said that's a "limitation" of iPhoto. Report that to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html. I think you can go back to iPhoto and select another 4 photos and open them in PS with the original 4 still open.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. No, tab-formatted text is not editable in the manner you desire. As for your question - tab is just a character like any other. You are simply taking a given kind of implementation for granted, nothing more, but that must not necessarily be the case for all programs. An evil programmer just could assign the tab key to forward delete or any other fancy function just as he could make your space key draw funky symbols from a different Unicode range, if you get my meaning... so simply take it the way it is. I am not sure this is going to work. For one thing, the preferences file is in a different place in Mountain Lion. It is at: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.pli st. I wouldn't try to move the .plist file, I'd be very surprised if it would work.
I would do a different approach and start with just recreating the mail account(s) you have on the new machine from scratch and let them download your mail from the server. Then if there were e-mails not on the server any more, but stored in the black macbook, I'd copy them from the mailboxes folder, from the old machine to the new. I'm not sure where they are in 10.5.8, but in ML they are at ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes.
At each stage along the way I'd do a backup, so in case it screws things up, you can revert to a functional Mail.app.

I am not the only photographer with this issue check out all the chatter about it.

This happens every single time a new camera comes out from one of the two big camera makers. Nikon and Canon do not send preproduction units to Adobe, so Adobe has to go out and buy a D750 or whatever from the store to test and profile it before they can update Lightroom. They can't get one earlier than you and I can. The profiling is quite an extensive operation. Other camera makers do send preproduction units, use dng, or do the profiling in-house and there you often get support right from release. If camera makers would finally embrace an open raw format such as dng, this whole problem would be gone but both Canon and Nikon seem to think they live in an upside-down world where their clients only use their software.
Usually the dead period only lasts a few weeks but it is frustrating nevertheless. My only advice is to not buy a new camera at the day of release and expect to have third parties to support it. You definitely should not be buying these cameras right away if your business depends on it. Aperture, Capture One, etc. have the exact same problem. No third party (read non-Nikon in this case) will support the camera from the release date. Some are quicker than other adding support. Adobe is somewhere in the middle of the pack in this respect. Nobody outside of Adobe knows when an update comes out. Could be tomorrow, could be a few more weeks or a month. They might jump straight to Lightroom 6 and never add direct support to LR 5. Sometimes they will first bring out a beta version of dng converter that will convert the new camera's nef files to dng, which will work fine in the current Lightroom before updating Lightroom itself.

If I edit a photo in Photoshop Elements, I can't seem to re-import it back into Lightroom. If I open the relevant folder on my Mac the image is present, but Lightroom just doesn't "see" it at all.

For some reason, my (Mac) Lightroom 5 won't recognise images in folders on my Mac that I've edited in either Photoshop Elements or Perfect Effects 8. If I've previously imported images from a specific folder, Lightroom will show these as greyed-out images (as normal) but will not show other images I've subsequently saved in that folder. Similarly, if I, say, select three images from Lightroom to use the Photomerge option in Elements, the subsequent saved image won't be recognised by Lightroom.
I've tried moving locations, saving in umpteen different formats etc., but the problem persists. No problem importing existing images from either SD card or old folders on the computer.
It's very frustrating!

Ah-Ha! Right, think I've worked out the problem!
When I save a photo from Photoshop, I often place it on the desktop with a view to e-mailing it or posting it somewhere on the internet. I've just looked at the file that was supposedly saved as a .psd, but under "properties" it has no file extension. So I added the .psd and bingo, up it popped in the LR import window! I've since gone into Photoshop preferences & ticked it to add a file extension. That's really odd - I've never deselected that option but, hey ho, mystery solved.
