Can't edit in Get Info

I am trying to change a genre of a song in iTunes 7. I have right-clicked on the song, gotten into Get Info, and can see the current genre but I can't seem to change it. I can't highlight it, select it, or edit it.
I'm the administrator and I'm using my admin account. Any suggestions?

Never mind, I figured it out. Thanks anyway!

    Why can't I select "get info" from the file area so I can change the setting to "open in 32-bit mode" ?

    It may be because of your settings. You can modify that setting in System Preferences > Trackpad. Another way of making right-click is to click the app icon while holding the Control key

  • I can no longer edit in "Get Info" since downloading iTunes 11.2.2.3. Please help.

    Since downloading 11.2.2.3 I can no longer edit info or add album artwork to any music I add to my library that hasn't been bought through iTuens. It will allow me to make changes on the "Get Info" section but when I hit OK nothing happens. Anybody got a solution?

    Check your settings under Edit > Preferences > Advanced. Is the correct media folder location shown, and is Keep... ticked?.iTunes only rearranges content inside the iTunes Media folder if the Keep... option is enabled, and it only offers to send to the recycle bin when deleting things located inside the media folder.

  • I can no longer select "get info" it is grayed out

    Since upgrading to iTunes 11, most of my genres, song titles, etc. have been changed, and I cannot select "get info" to change them back.

    HI,
    This may depend on which version of iChat we are talking about
    Up and until iChat 4.x.x the OS had a System Preferences > Quicktime pane
    The Streaming setting in here needs to be at 1.5Mbps T1/Intranet/LAN (the Automatic and LAN/Intranet don't always work properly).
    You may not have enough internet Speed.
    http://www.speedtest.net/  This will measure Upload and Download speed (Based on what your computer can "See" of your Bandwidth if your connection is shared)
    The Upload is often Lower and is the controlling factor.
    It needs to be at least 256kbps (often reported as 0.256Mbps)
    Your OS may have "Lost Contact" with the camera
    Check in other apps to see if the camera works .

  • How can I restore my "Get Info" Macintosh HD logo?

    I changed my "Get info" HD logo. So, how can I restore it back.

    Deleting the replaced icon should restore the old one?
    Did you use a third party utility to do this or did you just copy/paste via Get Info".

  • Song order in itunes is out of order, can't fix with get info as apple suggests

    I recently got a new 160gb Ipod and noticed when i synced with my itunes library that a lot of my albums are out of order. looked around trying to fix myself, but the suggestion to go to 'get info' tab and fix song order is not working. Noticed that the date on a lot of the albums is 1969 despite the fact that they are newer albums

  • Can I stop the "get info" panel from jumping to the left of the screen?

    I have a 24" screen and use "get info" a lot. Is there a way to make it default so it opens next to the finder instead of at the left border of the screen?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    I think it will be a bit complicated to start messing with this default behavior and may ultimately end badly for you.
    If you highlight a group of files and then press Command + "I" the resulting Get Info windows fan across the screen and then cascade down a level and continue fanning until all have opened.
    This behavior is similar for a group of folders, if they all have the same permissions. If the folders have different permissions set the result is a multi object Get Info window.
    Quite sophisticated, not a road I would want to go down.

  • I can't use the 'Get info' function.  Info box is blank

  • How do I get albums out of "compilations'?  On one of my machined I can go to individual songs, "get info" and uncheck "part of a compilation", but that does not work on my office machine.  I would also like to be able to do this in  a group for an album,

    I don't know how so much of my music got lost by being labled "compilations"?  I would like to go back and catagorize it as it should be but the screens are gray and will not let me alter them as to the catagory I wish them to be in (or even the genere they are already labled?  On my home machine I can (by individual song) "get info and uncheck "part of a compilation" and when this is finished the album goes to the genere as it is listed?  Frustrating bit of hous keeping.  Help and Thanks  Chuck

    The Get Info. fields show up gray if the files is locked and iTunes knows it can't edit the file. Make sure the files are not marked as read only and, if necessary grant both your account and system full access to all files and subfolders of your media folder.
    You can set Part of a Compilation for multiple tracks from the Options tab of Get Info.

  • Unable to Edit "Get Info" Screen

    After hardware failure had to rebuild comp but the drive holding all my media is intact. After rebuild, installed latest ver of iTunes. Selected "Add folder" menu option to allow iTunes to recognize that folder and reset iTunes to use this folder for its default location going forward.
    However, it seems as I have lost my organization where the individual files for a particular show for example would show up under a single a common cover art and such "TV" shows would be in the correct location. Everything is under "Movies" and when I selected "GET INFO" everything on the screen is intact but greyed and I am no longer able to edit this information.
    Any NEW items I add however that had not been previously in iTunes or part of the "ADD FOLDER" request show up with the "GET INFO" screen fully editable.
    How do I unlock the "GET INFO" screen?

    Here's what I did to "unlock" all the files. In the directory containing the media files I changed one show' extension fm .m4v to .mp4 and attempted the add files menu selection. When the episodes showed up in "movies" category window, I found the greyed out "get info" window now active for editing. I selected the entire sequence of episodes and assigned them to "TV SHOW" under options. These parked themselves properly organized under the single cover art (where before each episode would not group and listed each episode separately using the same cover art in each instance.
    When I went back and imported the next set of files, everything was free to edit so again, without understanding the reason for this lack of or access to the ability to edit the "get info" window, unable to point anyone the reason but am able to offer the workaround experience.

  • Issue with 'Get Info'

    I have just transferred all of my music including my itunes folder over to an external hardrive.
    I can add it, play it and sync it all without any problems, but when i tried to access the info on every track it comes up shaded, exactly like it doees when the track's location can't be found, even though it works perfectly.
    I have tried almost everything that i can think of and am now at a complete loss..is this because i have moved everything?

    I have a similar issue. I have a brand-new ipod. I'm running the current version of iTunes on a laptop running XP. I'm able to change the "get info" song data on SOME tracks, but not others. The most baffling thing to me is that is seems I can change song data ONCE... and then it becomes "greyed out" and off-limits. What gives?
    It's a truly infuriating problem. It's really enough to make me consider scrapping iTunes altogether for file management. What's the point if I have no control over my metadata?
    My iTunes folder (and sub-folders) show a partially-checked "read only" box in their preferences. I can force this to be "wide open"... but then it goes right back to partial status. (the individual problem music files themselves are all unchecked for "read only"--I verified that they start that way, they stay that way.)
    I tried temporarily force-unlocking the album folder as you did, then--when I STILL couldn't change the song data, I copied it within iTunes with "convert to AAC" (which is weird, because it already WAS in AAC, supposedly). I could then edit the "get info" data on the new copy. Upon reopening iTunes, the new copy remains editable, while the old copy remained uneditable. It was, however, delete-able, and I scrapped the track post-haste.
    So.. that worked. ...But what a horrible work-around!
    It seems to me that iTunes is preventing me from changing downloaded metadata (at least more than once) even though the tracks are all ripped from my CD collection. Is there some reason that changing the "sort artist" or "sort album" items would lock-down all other fields for editing?

  • How to display the Get info window for a file or folder

    Hello,
    How can I display the Get Info window for a file or folder using Applescript - instead of selecting it in the finder and using Command-I ?
    Thanks.
    lenpartico

    The item property that the Get Info was opened for is read only, so it doesn't look like you can just throw a file path at it. You could do something like telling the Finder to reveal the item, then keystroke the command, e.g.:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFEE80;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    tell application "Finder"
    reveal "Path:to:your:file"
    activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events" to keystroke "i" using {command down}
    </pre>
    ... but this doesn't seem to be much different than the regular method. There are other methods to get various information, what are you wanting to do?
    Edit:
    Hmmm, I could have sworn (I do a lot of that these days) I tried Hiroto's method, but that does work. It still seems to be a roundabout way of doing something though.

  • How to install custom XMP Get Info Panels in Adobe Bridge CC

    Adobe changed their way they store the custom XMP Get Info Panels in Adobe Bridge CC. Check out this blog to see how you can install the XMP Get Info Panels that you used in Adobe Bridge CS6 in Adobe Bridge CC:
    http://www.databasepublish.com/blog/installing-custom-metadata-panels-and-get-info-panels- adobe-bridge-cc

    Check your Bridge preferences.  It seems that you have the "Don't process images larger than…" option set to a lower amount than some of your files.
    So, don't blame it on Bridge, but on the user who neglects that setting.

  • Can't update iTunes movie info when sharing media server

    I use a mac mini as a media server and have a 2T hard drive connected to it with all my movies and TV shows.
    It is connected to my network but not to a monitor.  I connect to it thur sharing when I want to make a change
    on it.  I have always been able to update my movie info (artwork and such) that way, now all of a sudden I can't.
    The "Get info" window is locked and I can't make any changes.  Any ideas, much appreciated.
    10.6 0n the mini, 10.9 on my mac.

    You have the maximum version of iTunes for Mac OS X 10.4. iTunes 10 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or newer. The maximum OS for an iBook G4 is Mac OS X 10.5.8.
