Can't 'Edit in Photoshop'

Lightroom 2
Photoshop CS4
Suddenly today I am unable to take images from Lightroom to Photoshop.
The options are available in the menu, but when I click them it may switch over to Photoshop, but the image never opens.
Best I can recall no Lightroom or Photoshop settings have changed.
Tried restarting both programs. Tried restarting the computer.
Saw some old posts I found through Google... If it matters scripting support 11.0
Anyone have any idea what might be going on?

Yes, I have added Photoshop.exe as additional external editor.
Ctrl-E=Popup:
"This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 5.5 for full compatibility.
Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool in the Photoshop help menu."
Click 'Open Anyway'
Pops over to or opens Photoshop, but file never opens.
Right-Click->Edit in Photoshop.exe
open original, w/lightroom adjustments, etc
then DOES successfully open.
Save renders TIFF format rather than PSD.
This is a step in the right direction though!

  • Can't Edit In Photoshop from LR

    Hi All
I'm on a Mac using the latest versions of LR, Photoshp CS5, and Camera RAW.  Editing 5D and 40D files.
I cannot get RAW files to completely open up in Photoshop using either the COMMAND+E or right click Edit In Photoshop.  Upon using either of these key strokes, Photoshop will launch, but the file never opens in Photoshop.
I tried selecting CS5 as my second external editor, and launching with "right Click Edit in" that editor, and Photoshop launches that way, but LR creates a PSD first and stores in my catalogue before moving to PS.   I prefer using the main editor as I can edit in Photoshop and choose to save the file.
Ugh. I've tried deleting preference files and that hasn't help.  Any ideas?

Does ACR open when you start the process in PS and use File / Open and select the RAW file?  File / Open is how Windows would do it, not sure on a Mac, but whatever you'd do in PS on a Mac to open a RAW file, without LR being involved.
In other words, is the issue with PS opening in ACR or PS being called from LR?
Also, if PS is already open w/o any file being edited--not as a result of a bad open from LR, but PS manually started up, does it work right from LR?  In other words if the invocation from LR doesn't actually involve starting up PS, but just communicating with the currently open PS does it work better?
You might just try uninstalling and reinstalling LR, again.  Or even re-installing PS, although LR is easier to re-install so try that, first.

HOW CAN I EDIT MY PHOTOS IN PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 10 ?   JB     [email protected]

No, sorry, I don't understand what you are talking about. Exactly what happens? You do not need to buy a different version of Elements, just explain EXACTLY what the problem is. And please turn off your caps lock key.
Adobe is not preventing you from using PSE 10. Thousands of people are using it, so we need to figure out exactly where the problem lies. Please explain step by step what you are doing and what happens.

  • Can't "Edit in Photoshop CS6" in Lightroom 4.1, after upgrading Photoshop from CS4

I recently installed Creative Suite 6 Production Premium, and uninstalled Photoshop CS4, but Lightroom seems to be confused and doesn't show "Edit in Photoshop CS6" as an option.
Lightroom seems to be aware that Photoshop CS4 is no longer installed: the first command under "Edit In" is "Edit in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)\Photoshop...", and all the Photoshop-specific "edit in" commands (smart object, layers, etc.) are unavailable.  I tried adding Photoshop CS6 as a secondary editor, but this makes Lightroom export a TIFF to PS rather than opening the file in Camera Raw.
I'm not sure what I have to do to convince Lightroom that I have Photoshop CS6 installed.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Well, I had searched the forums before and couldn't locate an answer, but ended up finding an answer through the "more like this" links at the right.  The CS4 path was stored in the Windows registry; I had to update it to CS6 and it's now working perfectly.
Just in case anyone else comes across this problem, here's the forum post:

  • Can't edit in Photoshop CS5

I just bought a new computer that uses Windows 7. I successfully restored my Elements Catalog. But when I click on a photo in the Organizer, then click on Edit, then on Edit with Photoshop, all that happens is I see a moving circle, then briefly an hourglass, then absolutely nothing happens. It never takes the photo into CS5 for editing. I tried going into Edit, Preferences, Editing, and Use a Supplementary Editing Application, but all it said was that CS5 is already an option. Yet it won't work. It worked just fine on my old XP computer. Help!

On my old computer (Windows XP) I was able to click on Edit in Elements 8.0, then Edit in Photoshop, and it took me directly to CS5. Shouldn't it do the same thing in Windows 7???
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling CS5, and that didn't make a difference.

  • Can't edit with Photoshop

I'm having an issue trying to edit my images.  When I right click on an image and go to "edit with - photoshop CS4" nothing happens.  I've tried several times with several images and nothing.  The other day when I was editing it suddenly started opening IrfanView instead of Photoshop.  Now, I just tried again to doublecheck and Photoshop isn't even an option - only Illustrator CS4 and IrfanView.  This is getting frustrating.  Is anyone else having a similar issue with the "edit with" feature?  Any ideas on how to remedy this issue?

Yes, I've had the same problem using IDCS4 on Win XP. I got MS Paint opening and I vaguely recall what I did to fix it.
Thinking it was a memory problem I know I 'Closed' and 'Re-Opened' IDCSC4 at least once. I must have closed Photoshop and Acrobat also to free up RAM prior to doing this. I think failing that, I rebooted (maybe more than once, and to a full, dead, shut down and wait for the RAM to fully discharge for 5 minutes, as I recall). Then I just started and launched ID only, and it went away, finally. It hasn't reared it's ugly head since.

  • Fireworks has changed all my gif files into index can't edit in photoshop

Fireworks has taken over my gif files and now when I try to edit them in photoshop I can't.  It says index on the end of file and the layer is locked.  I need fireworks to stop this so no other files do it.  I have been going into photoshop an saving them as a jpg. file but that can get old.  Is there anyway to stop fireworks from doing this?

    Glad this helped!
It's interesting: Fireworks makes it much easier to work with GIFs. You just open up the file and start working. Fireworks doesn't have color modes (Grayscale, Indexed Color, RGB, CMYK, Lab) like Photoshop, and is much more geared towards hex codes—which I'm guessing is what indexed color systems use. This makes sense, as it was built to be a web graphics editor.
Apparently, GIFs don't support layers. Fireworks will let you add layers to your GIF, but once it's time to save the file, it'll let you know that you must either save the file in a different format or else the result will be flattened:
Photoshop isn't nearly as friendly to GIFs. Depending on the action you choose, you might get a clue about the need to convert to another color mode, like this one that appears when attempting to use the Dodge Tool:
Just as often, though, you'll only get greyed-out options or an angry "boop" sound from your computer—like when you double click on the locked "Index" layer—with no information provided. I think the engineers could improve this by adding a similar alert message to the Dodge Tool, or even better, by offering a prompt with the option to convert the image to RGB directly (when a user double clicks on the locked layer).

  • Can I edit a Photoshop doc in Elements?

I have a Photoshop document that needs some copy editing. I don't have Photoshop or Elements. I've been thinking of purchasing Elements but am wondering if I will be able to edit the existing Photoshop document in that program.
    Thanks!

Either have them exprt the file to .inx for you (not ideal) or download the CS4 trial and use it for 30 days and make sure you finish in that time. You can get that here: Download Adobe CS4 and CS3 Free Trials Here (incl. After Effects) | ProDesignTools
Make sure you follow the directions on that page TO THE LETTER or it won't work.

  • Can't edit in Photoshop Elements

When I try to move a photo into Photoshop Elements for editing, all I ever get is the message "Preparing file for editing" but no progress at all. Neither JPG nor Raw files work. I've fooled with Edit, Preferences to no avail. This worked fine in LR 1.3. Any ideas?
    I have a Pentium 4 with 1 G of RAM, Lightroom 2 and Photoshop Elements 6.
    Thank you.

  • Can't edit in photoshop cc 2014

When I right click on an image in LR5 I don't have the option to open in CC 2014, which has been installed.

It’s working OK for me. I updated LR first and then did the Photoshop CC 2014 update in that order. Go to preferences (see image) and check that PS CC 2014 is showing as the external editor. It should happen automatically.

  • Still can't Edit In Photoshop Elements 10 from LR 4.1RC1

It's getting further than in LR4.0.  In v4.0 nothing would happen.
In 4.1RC1, you get a dialog asking copy/no copy.  Then a copy is made.  PSE is launched.  But there's no image in PSE.
Mac OSX Lion.  PSE10.0.  Images in DNG (from original NEF).  Tried export both in TIFF and PSD.  No difference.

Edit > Preferences > External Editing
Go down to "Additional External Editor"
Click Choose and navigate to the Elements folders and click on the icon to start Elements.
Choose the other options, File Format, Color Space, etc.
Click the down arrow in the Preset Box and give your preset a name.
Then whenever you want to go to Elements, Photo > Edit In and choose your preset.

  • Withe the new photo upgrade, why can't I edit in Photoshop anymore?

I just upgraded to the new photo upgrade and I can't edit in Photoshop anymore!!! Help????

I just upgraded to the new photo upgrade and I can't edit in Photoshop anymore!!! Help????
External Photo Editors are not supported in Photos. You can export any photo to the Desktop and then pass them the Photoshop for editing and reimport them.
The problem is, that Photos is a completely new designed photo application, designed for Yosemite and the MacOS X versions to come. Many differences are under the hood. It uses the new system libraries and frameworks for more efficient image processing on the new powerful macs, like the mac pro, it is extensible by app extensions, if other developers will add functionality, and most important, it brings integration with iCloud Photo Library.   Photoshop and other external editors have not yet been upgraded to support this.  I hope, the updates will come soon.
Some features are still missing however, and you can continue to use iPhoto, if you like. Or create a small Photos library for testing and explore Photos, while keeping your main libraries in iPhoto.
